high SAR Value! - HTC One X

grrrrr ..... it has 0.91 W/kg -> that´s quite high - it grills your brain...

speakerphone ftw

That`s if you have a really poor signal, as the phone has to transmit a more powerful signal, so the more bars the better for you, or use a corded headset for hands-free.
John.
EDIT : If you are really worried.

it's a lot better than Motorola and apple handsets. The only company consistently putting out low SAR ratings is Samsung. I have heard the SAR ratings given are suspect anyway, that continual radiation may be sustained higher than average even if the max SAR is lower than other handsets...
ie. (not REAL figures)
samsung max sar= .63 sustained sar= .60
HTC max sar= .91 sustained sar= .55
now I am no expert but I remember hearing something along these lines a little while ago.

I was dead set for getting HOX next month, but it's one bad thing after another.
Problems with screen flexing, inconsistency of screen quality (some have yellowish hue, some are nicely white), screen flickering, now high SAR value...
I must admit I'm rethinking my decision a bit.
I was searching for SAR value for HOX a few days ago and couldn't find the info. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it's just another item on the "against" list.

Just have to keep swapping the phone from ear to ear, so instead of one side of you brain getting 100% , each side will only get 50% and that has to be better.
John.

Of all the things likely to kill me a cell phone is probably the least likely. I'm sure recreational drug use when I was younger did far more to fry my brain than anything HTC can concoct. Can you imagine what the radiation levels must have been like in early cell phones before we developed ways of tracking it?

You should get the SGS3. I'm sure it will be perfect and issue free just like the GN was when it launched.

As for SAR value, it's not dramatically high. Lower radiation would be nice, but I can live with it.

He has a point. Why is this thread even here? You're NOT going to get cancer from your phone. It wont happen. It wont kill your brain cells or lower your IQ either (not from radiowaves or anything anyway. It might lower your IQ if you sit there on facebook all day though ).
Also, what issues?
So far, the video camera is a bit disappointing and games are a little laggy (both of which can be fixed with software updates). That's it. No phone has ever been released perfect. This is easily the most stable-upon-release handset I've ever owned.

few days ago in news some lab did a LONG study on dental x-rays and said people get brain cancer because of them and should avoid at all cost. People have been doing dental x-rays for ages and still think its safe.

There's a MASSIVE difference between a mobile phone and an X-Ray.
Even the National Cancer Institute says there's no known link between mobile phone's and cancer.
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Risk/cellphones[/url]
"...to date there is no evidence from studies of cells, animals, or humans that radiofrequency energy can cause cancer."
Even if there IS a link, and mobile phones CAN cause cancer after 30 years or so, there are so many other things you do day to day that are much worse for your health and are much more likely to kill you.

hello!
its a strange question because it hasn´t measure for it logically
i think that its better put it in the poket LOL
Hi Bert2662
I've been asking myself this question before. As the country I am living in, Malaysia, is hot and humid kinda whether. Constantly it will make my battery temperature on an average of 32'C.
I guess it should not exceed 35'C, as it is considered quite hot already. I am using a casing for my Desire HD, and even with that, I can feel that my hands became pretty hot.
Based on my own feeling(no empirical evidence. Lol.), that it should not exceed 35'C as it can damage your battery first, then hardware.

Hei, I'm also from I'm from Penang! I also have my phone with a cover. But I think the temperature in the car rili nt suits it.. Lol..
lol..i'm from selangor!! Anyway, i read some where saying that max battery temperature should not more than 40C, it will reduce battery life or damage it later. As for CPU, and electronic item, max temperature should not exceed 50C.
Edit: When I use my phone for browse especially, temprature getting increase very fast. Especially when you outside during hot wheater. Just in 1 to 2 minute, battery temperature already reach up to 40 ~ 42C!!
Hi Malaysians! Oh, i live in Selangor too.
Yea.. I reached once at approx 40'C and that time i do not feel secure anymore. (again, based on feelings. Lol.) From that day onwards whenever I have the chance to cooldown my phone i will just leave the phone on the table to have some air-con. Of course not for places like mamak, but places like in offices. Lol.
Lol!! The hot weather make me feel no longer think bout to put my phone inside d car. Unless I cn park inside d sch cuz currently I park my car outside d sch. By the way, it's good to separate the battery frm the phone if I rili need to put d phone inside d car

Remove the battery? Perhaps you bring along the battery with you wherever you go and leave the phone inside the car. Lol.
By the way, if you really want to do that, make sure you do take the battery with you. I notice many people has lost their valuables is because they left something in their cars. Well not much about the battery, but i heard that they have sensors to detect batteries or something metal for such as laptops and handphones. The Desire HD is also made up of aluminium. So.. Lol. You decide.
Again, this is what i heard only. How true is it will depends on how you look at it.
I'd just take it with me to class, turn it off and hide it (in a bag or something).
Problem solved
One a side note, I don't believe that schools have the legal right to confiscate your property, but it might get you into all kinds of other trouble.
Hi frosty_ice
Yea.. school do not have the legal right. But they will still confiscate your phone. I guess it applies to most schools around the globe. Probably private schools have more flexibility. Well you can bring your phone, but you have to give the teacher to hold them for you. Ish.
you dont have to lay your phone onto the table ^^

So long One V!

So I went to get my one v replaced and apparently the HTC guys had like 4 more units with defections! HTC themselves said that many pieces were defected and such problems wouldn't be solved till another 2 months or so and they suggested me to get a new device. So here I am with a sensation xe after replacing 2 one v devices! Regardless, I'd still say one v was an awesome lil guy and I'd still recommened..

This sounds unlikely to me. If this were true I think it would be all over the internet.
BTW, I've seen nothing wrong with my unit. I'm really enjoying it.
well guys, just cuz it happens to me doesn't mean you all are unlucky
there were no issues with the performance, but bugs with the physical aspects of the phone. Like leakage of light from micro usb, from under the screen beneath the capacitive buttons and also bands of light on the display. Like I said, I replaced the phone 2 times already and the second unit turned out to be even more defected, and it's nearly impossible for me to go get a newer unit every time so yeah
I'm happy with the decision though! loving my XE!
One V is still awesome! THAT PHONE HAS MY RESPECT! \\m//
and yeah another thing was the grip. it would lose signal when held in certain positions! one minute it loses signal, the next minute i keep it on a table by it's own, full strength.
defective ?
i had htc desire and it always reboot whenever it gets overheat. I sent it to service it took 4 months already and i dont know what happens with it .
Just received by HTC One V
It is also defective.
- The screen has a yellow line on the top and the bottom
- The touch screen is not working in certain places.

Or perhaps not as picky given that this is a budget device. I'm quite pleased with it for what I paid. My only complaint is no CWM Recovery yet.
BTW, where I live, the Sensation XP costs $100 more that the One V. My expectations would certainly be higher with that phone.
My device heats a lot during charging. Is that big issue???
Sent from my HTC One V
i'm not able to really quite explain what i meant by bands of light. you must have checked out the other thread about the yellow spots right? yeah quite similar to those.
i wouldn't say picky, but when htc themselves admit to their customers that they screwed up with some stuff, i'd rather go get something more solid and stable. that's just me though
Heat isn't good for it, but it's common for lith ion batteries to get hot when charging. My Galaxy Tab 8.9 gets pretty hot too. Haven't checked the One V yet.

That to me is the only realistic problem, which my phone doesn't have at all.
The light leak is really no big deal. Neither is the signal strength issue. Side-by-side with my Wildfire S the One V always has equal or better signal and I've never dropped a call with the Wildfire here in Cambodia or Thailand. Where you dropping calls?
My earlier unit didn't have it at all but this one did. And the light leak is intensr, u can see it very very clearly, coming from sort of under the screen, even in normal view. I'd post a to show what I really mean but don't have it anymore now..

Connectivity suffers no death grip
We tested the phone for death-grip and we didn't find any problems - Wi-Fi signal drops if you completely cover the top plastic panel on the back, but the reception still remains quite strong. Cell signal didn't budge.

I don't notice this either, and as I said before, it's signal reception is better than my Wildfire S so I'm quite happy. The WFS has never dropped a call and I doubt my One V will either.

Electrocute from One x. Anyone?

Hi everyone!
This isn't good. I don't know what caused it, but last night i held my phone and got electrocuted. The electricity was like that of strong static when its very dry and cold then you touch something thats mase of metal.
And just now, i left my phone charging. As soon as i grabbed it , i got electrocuted again. Then after holding it for a few seconds, it hit me again. This time it was the strongest because my wife even heard the electricity. The current felt like it came from the left side of the glass of the screen. The strongest i felt i think came from the dock terminal. I tried touching the terminals again but didnt happen anymore.
Im not sure if it because its too cold the room or if its because it was charging. But either way, i dont think a phone should do that.
Anyone else with this kind of situation?

Sorry I had to have a little chuckle when I saw your question title
I would suggest contacting HTC Support and requesting a replacement. If the replacement does the same thing then it could be your environment.
You must change quickly your phone. Maybe is the LiPo Battery.
Hard to believe that phone could generate enough voltage to actually feel it.
Also don't rub it.
I'll try to observe first. I always charge my phone when im in the office but never had this problem. I will try to use a different power outlet here in the room tomorrow and se if it'll happen again.
I won't be able to return the phone yo HTC any sooner because i'll be going to germany this saturday and i need my phone.
It just bugged me. The electricity was tolerable but a phone shouldnt do that.

Not hard to believe at all. Capacitors increase the voltage in the circuit dramatically. They can make 80,000v out of a 9v battery. Think of how a Taser works.
Just return it and either get a replacement or a refund (depends on your reseller/operator/region/country)!

Mhmmm. Taser! @OP if i were you i'd seriously just attach two cables to the side of the screen, two needles at the tip of the cable and install some type of firing mechanism and tase people. Hell, even if they end up taking you to court. They're probably going to say "he tased me with his phone" and the judge, along with everyone else in the court room will stand there just laughing their asses off.

Can this be true?

I was browsing Facebook earlier, and as usual half my timeline is full of crap!
When I noticed this, gave it a quick read and realised is was a mobile phone.

Its crap ! Another dumb guy who put his stuff in the oven and made some great looking pictures ! This will not happen to a phone......if something is going wrong its in the main charger that's stuck in the outlet. It will melt because it gets too hot maybe. And then it should make electrical circuit fall out in the main power supply in the house.
If that doesn't happen it says more about the security in the electric fusebox of the house then the crappy charger

Agreed bull****.
Firstly 5volts @ 1-2 amps is certainly not going to kill you.
Any respectable wall charger / home is going to have a 3amp fuse / circuit breaker to prevent this kind of thing.
To get that kind of damage you are not only going to need a voltage failure 240v (UK) to handset. But more likely an electricity grid neutral failure sending probably over 1000v to the phone. And if that was to happen i would be more worried about everything electronic in the house blowing up than answering a call

Although very uncommon and unusal this kind of thing can happen with some mobile phones. Ive worked for the Health and Safety and you would be suprised how many of these types of accidents get reported. It doesnt have to be on charge for this to happen either it can happen during normal usage.

You don't know how many f*ucking stupid people are on facebook now xD it's now more like pornbook or so ...not more facebook ...at the beginning where I made an account all people weren't so stupid but know...I think I will leave facebook and use instead Twitter and whatsapp/gtalk or so ....it does make more sense then using facebook...okay there are some girls who are looking really nice because of sweet face good body etc....but such girls I can find all over the web haha xD and this isn't possible...because so much voltage etc isn't coming out of the charger...that would be possible maybe with computer power(box) but not with phone charger xD

Hi Guys
Although very uncommon and unusal this kind of thing can happen with some mobile phones. Ive worked for the Health and Safety and you would be suprised how many of these types of accidents get reported. It doesnt have to be on charge for this to happen either it can happen during normal usage.

By "these types" do you mean death by phone tazer or just exploded phone.
95% of exploded phone issues will be from catastrophic battery failure. Not electrocution by over current

Perhaps if his parents didnt waste time taking pictures of his hands for facebook before taking him to hospital he would have survived lol load of rubbish.
Whatever,
and don't forget with an even cheaper charger let s say 50 cents you can even reproduce an atomic blast,
for the health and secure guy, i believe that a lot of person are having explosion like this, just one thing people
would tell everything to get money back from insurance or other establishment and sadly the more people
use the same story the more i begins to be true, like ghosts goblins or pink elephants. .......
:cyclops:
It a bull**** story , if the guy is dead who's hand is this ? Nigerian scam if you ask me
Never seen an exploding phone, but charger yes...
I cant say I have seen any exploding phones in "real life" but I have however seen a charger explode. I plugged it in, hooked up my phone, sat down across the room and then boom! It exploded, tripped all the power but thankfully didn't nuke my phone. I wouldn't say it's impossible, also I wouldn't really say it was the phone exploding, but I do think the battery may have some potential to cause some wicked damage...
Take a look here, not quite the same as the fb stuff but still worth a look?

A bit of a problem...

Basically, someone gave me a very not so clever idea of microwaving my phone to charge it. Being the bright spark I am, I tried it and it worked! 10 secs = +20%. However it overheated my phone really badly, and now the touchscreen doesn't work on the top half of the screen, the home button doesn't work, there are some wifi problems, like very weak connection (where before it was very strong) and the backlight for the back button is very dim.
Now does anyone know of any fixes, or if HTC might repair it on warranty, (but I rooted the phone so I dunno )
All help is greatly appreciated
This is a joke, right?

In my defense, I did gain 20% more battery
Well, you're screwed. Completely.

I am speechless...
You microwaved the phone to charge it?
I...do not know how to respond to this one. I really don't.

It actually helps to recharge the battery, as it gives the electons in the battery more energy, then charging it from the wall or PC can give, and also allows the flow of electrons to be more smoother, causing less resistance and less overheating. What I didn't realise is that I need to put in just the battery not the whole phone (metal in the phone duh) and yeah, I'm stuffed.

It is a myth that originated from an APPARENT claim made by Apple saying not to do it, which has since become anecdotal evidence that you can and should.
It's nonsense.
Microwaves cause particles to vibrate but do not deliver electrical charge. Added to that the fact your battery contains a variable moisture content that is vaporized inside the sealed container causing either structural damage or full rupture. Plus the heat can and does destroy the protection circuitry built into the battery to prevent under/overcharge.
There is SOME research into using microwaves to produce lithium iron phosphate batteries, but doing it to a lithium cobalt oxide battery is EXTREMELY dangerous and will shorten it's life if not permanently damage it structurally.
It's another example of the power of Facebook to instantly convey the most ridiculous things to millions of people.

Shoot. Well HTC said they can't repair it for free and repair costs will exceed the cost of a new phone, so I'm stuffed.

It would be totally irreparable in any case. It would have to be a totally replaced phone. You've completely annihilated all metallic components, which is basically all of them.
Even if you had only put the battery in the microwave in any case, you'd have exploded it and destroyed both battery and microwave, or you'd be walking around with a bomb in your pocket.

You're lucky it survived. I personally wouldn't ever turn it on again...but...that's me.

See I only put it in for 10 secs, and it restarted by itself, thats the thing
This is like someone says you put your cat in the microwave.....couldn't stand it.....and then say :
Yeah well it wasn't written in the manual !

It's not a thing. You've cooked it. It may partially function but you've damaged and destroyed the internals.
It's a gonner. Period.
