Best T-Mobile USA radio - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Howdy,
Just wanted to see what radio T-Mobile users are using, and how good they're working. I'm on ARHD 3.0.0 and using the UGLC1 radio. My reception seems worse from when I had UGKK7 or the XXLA2.

There are literally dozens of threads on this.
It depends on your area. People are reporting good results with almost every radio out there.

I'm in Seattle and I've tried UGLA4 UGLC1 and XXLA2
I noticed signal strength *might* have been a little bit worse on the XXLA2 versus the other 2, but honestly, these are all so close. I just decided to go w/ the UGLC1 because it was the latest.
I get about 6-9mbps down and 3-4mbps up at my current spot (lower queen anne).

Thanks for the responses. I haven't seen much difference as well and I will stick with the latest uglc1 for a bit.

on XXKK6, Central Florida, absolutley no issue with signal, hell its better than my T989, or Nexs S was(reception where they would have none)

Please continue the conversation in one of the already established threads.

Calling all At&t users with a custom 4.0.3 rom installed.

I know Google recommends xxkk6 or UGkk6 with 4.0.3 however I get abysmal battery life with xxkk6 and I get frequent cell service drops with the stock xxkk1 radio.
What radio are you guys using?

xx seems to work better with AWS/1700 bands. Try the UGKK7 and UGKL1 basebands. Those were designed for canadian carriers which should use the same bands as AT&T.
T-Mobile user here, but considering the phone isn't out here we're pretty much all in the same boat. I've tried XXKK1/6 and UGKL1/KK7, and UGKL1 was by far the best reception for me. My buddy on AT&T said the same. UG designated radios are North American.
My phone came with XXKK1, and when I unlocked the bootloader and switched to a 4.03 ROM, I switched to UGKL1. While I'm getting less "bars" than I used to with my Motorola Milestone, my actual signal strength is about the same (-60dbm in great areas, -90 in my house). I feel like UGKL1 is slightly better, but its tough to say.

[Q] what's the best radio to flash for T-Mobile USA?

my data speeds have been slow constantly and my call connections have been poor recently... im on roms running 4.0.3 and 4.0.4... any suggestions? thanks
id love some help here if anyone can help... thanks!
try them all and use the one that gives you the best service, or visit existing threads as there are several (use search)
i personally use xxkk6
I've used XXKK6 and UGKL1. I was getting a stronger signal with UGKL1, but opted for XXKK6 since it was still pulling down a solid signal and eliminates the concern of not having a stock baseband when another OTA comes out.
I currently use UGKL1 and get great call quality and data speeds between 5 and 20mbps depending on time of day. My pings are higher than they were with XXKK6 though.

This.
Also, a lot of radio performance depends on your location - what works for one person on your carrier may not necessarily work for you. Best bet is to try a few and see what works best.

Best Radio for Southern California

Hi all,
I know there's a thread already that is for North America (regarding the best radio), but it was hijacked by Canadians, so the information really doesn't apply this far away
What radio have you all found to have the best results in So. Cal? I'm in San Diego using the 4.0.4 ROM in the dev section, haven't been too happy with the radio (half of my calls I get robotic noises until I hang up and call again).
also interested in hearing from others as I too am located in Southern California with unsatisfied results from multiple radios.
I'm in San diego as well. So far I have found the stock 4.0.3 radios to be the most stable. The hand off between 4.0.4 is far better. But I have found it not to be as stable

Try this post, it helps you in understanding the letters in baseband and finding the latest one for you.

Otherwise you gonna flash something that is not for your area.
For me I got noticeable signal and bettery lice with the 2nd hybrid its a combo look for it in XDA. I got an extra signal bar lol its mostly on 2 bars now
Galaxy
All I did was get the phone, root it, and flash BAMF Paradigm (4.0.3) and I get great signal. Full bars in the parking lot of my apartment complex, 2-3 bars inside. Full bars at work, full bars at church. I even get good service and no dropped calls or anything driving around and even through canyons. Im in So Cal about an hour east of LA. So I think I am still on whatever stock radio the phone comes with, but you might want to flash back to that and give it a try again. Might work out pretty well for you.

What is there that could help with cellular reception

I just received my GN today and my cellular reception is real weak avg 110 dBm. I have been trying to find anything about increasing signal strength but without any luck. Is there any fix out there?
What carrier? Does it just have consistently weaker connection when compared to another phone on the same network next to it?
You can try flashing a different radio. Mixed results for most.
I am on Verizon with the i515 GN in Michigan. Are there ones I should try first Radio wise? I also have the MiFi 4510L and it gets near perfect reception.
Also available on some networks are signal boosters, check with your provider
Yeah Verizon has a femtocell, they call it the Network Extender, but its $250. It uses your home broadband to fabricate a network in your house.
I was thinking more along the lines of an update to the radio or what not.

Like some people have said: flash a new radio. What specific radio however, that depends on your phone. One radio might play nice with someone's Nexus, but might be cheap with yours. Flash and try to see which ones are good. You can find them in the Development section. XX are for Europe and UG is for North America. Both played nice with me, but UG was slightly better.
So the Radio is the only flash/adb software that effects reception?

Not really. All it does is help me with what radios are new and old. Not many people are saying where, geologically they are located. That's what this thread is for. The Geo of fellow members to better know which radio works best for your backyard. Not saying the other thread isn't working. Just want to get a better knowledge with Geo locations.

Flash some different radios and see how the reception is. Since things change so drastically from phone to phone and area to area, the best thing to do is try it yourself and see what works best.

So far I've flashed. UGKK7 no go with HSPA+ just HSPA. Also, UGKL1 same results. The UGHL1 gets me HSPA+. Trying more as we speak.

Thank you sir. XXLF1 does pretty good on my side too. I'm still testing here and there, for better results.

Went ahead and gave UILE1 + XXLF1 (RIL) a try once more. So far pleased now.. came out with better results than I was having 2 days ago. Results came to look as the Upload kept capping @ 1.75 and Capping @ 5.33 for DL..
