Been running Revolution HD rom for a while now, for the first time since i had this rom i wanted to take a picture.
My camera only takes black and white pictures. I changed all my settings, did try to restore to default settings but nothing seems to work.
Can this be an issue with the Revolution rom or is my camera broken?

Martijn Lenderink

Did you do a full wipe when installing ARHD?
What about accessing the wizard menu? When opening the camera it's the second option from the left, there you can select various color styles - can you switch back to normal there?

This is an issue with the rom.
Download this http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2jeuj716p644j53
Extract the liboemcamera.so from system.img and push it to /system/lib/ onn your device.
Your camera should work now.
I recently did a root on my phone, but everything has been left stock. All I did was delete bloatware such as Sprint (NASCAR, etc) and NOVA 2 HD. I also installed a Camera.apk (the one without the shutter and auto-focus sounds). I want to keep my phone as is, so if an OTA update comes along, such as ICS, will I run into any problems? I have the old Camera saved in a folder called "bak" in the system folder just in case I ever needed it again.

If you used one of pre-rooted ODIN OneClick packages, just put back Camera.apk and restore the stock kernel if you installed CWM and an OTA will work.
The other pre-rooted packages may or may not work with OTA depending on what they changed.
Hi all,
Just installed Android Revolution HD version 7.0.0.0 and now the camera isn't working properly:
When the photo is taken, there is no "confirmation" with the small animation that shows the picture zooming out in the corner.
When you try to watch videos the phone reboots or / video does not appear in the camera folder list.
I tried installing the stock version again, but the camera problems are still there. Could this be because of an edited Camera.apk file? Could it be one of the tweaks in the installation screen? (writeback , etc) ? I also installed again without the tweaks but the problems are still there.
I now installed Android_Revolution_HD-One_X_7.1.0 and the camera seems to work better but when I have low battery neither the camera or the video work, the buttons are disabled and it takes no pictures. Is this a tweak or a bug?
Finally, I think that version 7.0.0.0 changed a setting that affects the whole phone and all other roms that I flash, since even the stock rom is affected now by this camera problem. I 'think' it might be the data_writeback tweak, but now I can't disable it?
Any help very appreciated.

All the issues you mentioned above seems to work perfectly for me. Did you do a full wipe when installing 7.0.0? Has is ever successfully worked on any other rom?

All other versions of ARHD used to work normally, including the camera. Now watching videos freezes the phone or restarts.
I also installed Insert Coin yesterday in case it fixes the tweaks from ARHD but the camera is still not working properly.
Did u do full wipe?
I'm also experiencing this problem. What should I do?
shiningarmor Did u do full wipe?
I did a full wipe yes, before the installation. Not sure if I did one afterwards (when installing the stock rom or ARHD v 6.0.0.0). You think that would reset all the tweaks?

The only thing that fixed the camera file system (saving videos and viewing them and also the crashes) was installing Pro Capture or some other alternate camera app and saving the files with that one, afterwards the default camera started working properly as well.
BTW, I installed Insert Coin 7.0.0.0 and that fixed the camera as well, but try using Pro Capture free also and saving some picture with that one.
SOLVED:
This resets the camera app and all the file saving/video playback becomes normal.
If you had enabled the data_writeback tweak there are chances that the camera will stop saving pictures normally (At least the Data_writeback seems to be the most relevant tweak towards file handling).
In case your camera is stuffed up in ARHD 7.0.0.0, install Insert Coin 7.0.0.0, then do a ARHD Super Wipe and then install ARHD 7.0.0.0 again without any of the tweaks. Now you can also update to ARHD 7.1.0.0 with a working camera.
Hi, I can't seem to connect to my camera after flashing my ROM. I get "Camera Error: Can't connect to the camera". I'm using an N7105
I've tried:
1. CM10.1 and AOKP-JB-mr1-build6 roms. Restoring to the stock ROM made the camera work again, but flashing to the AOSP roms again after that breaks the camera.
2. Tried the NEAK kernel.
3. Tried removing the sdcard.
4. Tried fixing permissions in CWM.
I noticed that this seems to be an issue with AOSP Roms and S3s, but I can't seem to find a fix for the Note II. Is there one?
Thanks in advance!
Try some other kernel....

Any solution to this? I'm experiencing the same phenomenon, nothing seems to remedy it. Flashed different roms, kernels, etc.
Did u guys used touch focus or the camera app wont Just open? The aosp camera works fine but Whenever u use the touch focus while flash is set on : always on: then it will FC.. reboot and try again.. (my experience)
Cheers

Nah, for me it just won't open up at all, in any AOSP ROM i try. Full wipes of system, caches, etc. I don't know what else to try.
App starts, I see controls and black screen, then "Cannot connect to camera"

Exactly the same problem for me. Tried multiple camera apps all with the same effect.
Im aware that this is for the Galaxy S3 but looks like a similar problem and might be worth trying out.

I will give it a go when I get a chance but busy at work today so may not happen any time soon.
I find this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moblynx.camerajbplus
to be the best alternative.

Its not about the app. Its about the Camera. No app can connect to the camera because the firmware doesnt exist in the AOSP ROMs, only in the stock ROMs
I think I read that a recent CM nightly made some kind of stride forward in the camera dept. Haven't tested it, as am surprised to find myself happy with the stock ROM (albeit debloated).

Does it have to do with fixing permissions? I had this same error on my T-mobile Note 2 when I tried using an AOSP rom. I tried re-wiping, flashing etc to no avail. I was just getting ready to try an updated version to see if this fixed it.

Ofcourse it does, prior to installing this app the default camera was working just fine with slimbean which is based off of AOSP. Ive only changed my default camera because of the extra options, otherwise default work. Get your facts straight. Also i can connect to the camera just fine using any application including social and media apps..

Okay, so maybe it has been added to that ROM or maybe your camera has a different firmware to mine. For reference my camera firmwares are
REAR CAMERA:
Cam FW Ver: ZMGA01
Phone FW Ver: ZMGA01
FRONT CAMERA:
Cam and Phone FW Ver: S5K6A3
So after a couple of days of research I have managed to solve this problem.
Problem
When using a non-stock rom if you try to open ANY camera application that uses the rear camera you get the message "Can't Connect to camera" and the application force closes.Solution
Flash back to a stock ROM where the camera works and root your device.
Dial *#34971539# in stock dialer.
Check your camera vendor using "Phone/CAM FW Ver Check". For me it was ZMGA01
Install Root Explorer from the Google Store
Use Root Explorer to navigate to /data/cfw/
Copy the SlimISP_xx.bin to your SDCARD where xx = the first two letters of your firmware. For me it was SlimISP_ZM.bin
Flash the ROM you wish to use. I installed CM10.1
Using Root Explorer place the SlimISP_xx.bin into /data/cfw/
Change the permissions on the file to 775 (rwxrwxr-x)
Change the owner to System
Change the group to Media
Launch your camera app of choice
Take photos.
I have submitted my camera firmware file to CM10.1 so hopefully if anyone else has this camera it should start working for you i you flash the latest nightly in a few days.
I would rate this as something that is easy to do yourself, the biggest problem I had was researching it.
Thanks,
Harroguk

/data/cfw/ empty for me
I believe on some ROMs the camera firmware is kept somewhere else (Obviously) filename format should be the same though.
Posted from my phone. Please excuse my bad spelling.

The mod is not anymore necessary, look a the cyanogen install package under /system/vendor/firmware
All the firmware have been submitted.. but I had the issue...
I fixed the whole thing using NEAK kernel.

Hi,
i have changed rom to cyanogen 10.2 because my original rom not working camera (error connecting to camera). so i tried to reset to defaults with same result. I changed rom to cyanogen 10.2 (it was very good) and i have the same camera problem. I changed with another N7100 camera (in other phone it worked fine ) and it work for 1 day (in the other phone a put the "not working camera" and it worksssss) . So i think tnat is not a camera hardware problem. In cyanogen the dialer pressing test function doesn't work and in "/data/cfw" directory i have 8 files : SlimISP_BH, SlimSP_GD, SlimSP_GH, SlimSP_GK, SlimSP_ZD, SlimSP_ZH,SlimSP_ZK,SlimSP_ZM files. I have to had only one of this (i don't know my original firmware) or the cyanogen generic N7100 rom have all camera firmware to logically work with all N7100 firmware? I think that every specific firmware phone get automatically its file for the firmware they have. But i think that all firmware in the same direcotry can overload the rom information firmware too. I need to return to stock and check with original rom by dealer what firmware i have ? It was an original N7100 tim branded phone (samsung changed already 1 time camera in warrenty time but after 2 months the same error). I don't want to think its a logic board problem because or work or not work. I think its a "stupid" firmware problem.

Hey gus,
today my Camera suddenly stopped working properly. When i try to use dual mode or start taking a video, the app suddenly crashes.
I already tried a factory reset. After that I could not even find the app installed, it disappeared. When I reinstalled it (backuped the apk before reset) I got the same issue: dual mode and videos not working. The phone was rooted and I used the camera mod that sets the 1080p framerate to to 60 fps, but the camera worked properly until today. In addition to that the media profiles xml should be original again since I did a factory reset, so this should not be the problem.
Anyone pls help me.
Maybe someone can upload his/her camera files so I can try installing another apk? Its possible I got a damaged apk or so..
When you change something in protected area i.e. system you change it for good. No matter how many factory resets you do it would stay the same. Applying camera mod involved modifying mediaprofile.xml that is in system/etc folder. Only way to fix it would be to grab the stock mediaprofile.xml and put it back in the system/etc folder.

I guess I'm not the only one having issue with the camera mods. I changed framerate to 1080p60, but got worse results and the phone got stuck on the boot screen. Had to use the flashtool to go back to stock. If your phone boots, restore the xml as previously mentioned. Im curious, which version of the G3 do you have?
Thanks for your answers
@enaybee: could you please upload your original file? I just dud a backup of the apk, forgot the media profiles.
@garykl: Got the german 16 GB version from 1&1

Here you go media profile xml
Thanks man, now I just need to reinstall it as a system app, can you explain what i have to do? I put it in the priv-apps folder and etc folder, rebooted, but nothing happened
Just grab the mediaprofile.xml and place it inside /system/etc directory with the help of any file explorer that gives you access to system folder (requires root) like root explorer or es explorer. Make sure stock file replaces the modified file. Reboot and that should take care of the issue if it was only caused by the mod.
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I already did this with es explorer, set the permissions to rw r r and rebooted, all files are in the right folders.
Still no camera app
Maybe it doesnt work because we got different phone versions?
I checked the model number and it says D-855
Edit:I dont know why, but suddenly the app appeared in my drawer. Problem solved, thanks alot for your help [emoji106]
