Dust under the screen of my last two high end HTC phones (and not so great build quality despite good quality parts) was the reason I stopped buying HTC phones.
What about HTC One X? Anyone heard about cases of dust under the screen?

answered till death, the screen laminated on the gorilla glass, zero space to collect dust
There is a problem with dust under the screen. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591677
Hi,
I am on my 3rd one X and the last 2 have both had dust trapped under the glass screen!
So it's absolutely possible.
Yeah I think it would be possible in the phones that have the screen flex issues, as that's clearly to do with the LCD/Glass/Body not sitting right, or not being glued down properly.
I think I might have dust on the screen, How do i tell if its dust or dead pixel?
I definitely have something there....
How do i check? does the dust move on the screen? mine doesn't... I'm almost sure it wasn't there a few days ago when I got the device.
Damn. I was hoping HTC would've corrected this issue. This was a big thing on the HTC Sensation.
I had my HOX in pocket without any covers for just one evening. Now it's full of small scratches... :/ is there anything that I could do to them? They are so small that you can see them only from right angle but still... I didn't expect this from a 600e phone:what:
I experienced the same problem with my 1st HOX. At the time I was at the beach so can only think that a small amount of sand was in my pocket.
Luckily I had some other issues (bad screen flicker and screen flexing) which I reported to the retailer and they replaced the handset. I did make it clear to them about the scratches instead of "playing dumb" by stating that my HTC HD2 had lasted 2 years without a screen protector/cover and had no scratches at all.
Since receiving my replacement HOX I have purchased a cheap slip pouch off eBay which I make sure the phone is always in if I'm out on my travels.
I understand your frustration as my 1st HOX was only a week old when the screen was scratched.
Hope you manage to get something sorted
Hi,
I have got my One X for about 2 weeks now and there are multiple micro-scrathes on its screen already... (some of them are covering half of the screen). They are only visible when the screen is off and under certain lighting and angle, but it is quite annoying - I am worried how would the screen look like after a couple of months.
I am very careful with the phone and never keep it in my pocket with any other items. I have got HD2 previously for almost 3 years and with the same usage pattern its screen hasn't got a single scratch.
I suspect it is not Gorilla Glass that gets scratched, but some kind of coating (oleophobic?) on the screen.
Is your experience similar?
Dude there something with the screen. Its sh1t. i dropped the phone yesterday from my bed and on the right top of the screen there is a brake on the screen and some scratches too.I had Galaxy S and i dropped it several times and from higher position than bed and non a single scratch i dont mention the ****ing brake.i am already thinking replacing the digitizer .its a fuking new phone its not that i have problem with the broke as long my lcd is working but u know what i mean
was the swearing necessary?
replacing the glass is hard- the screen and lcd are apparently attached and spare parts are expensive, let alone the effort required to disassemble the phone (as the m/board etc are attached directly to the screen)
the screen is also laminated - maybe this coating is getting scratched? i don't know exactly what laminated glass is, just what it achieves.
Its necessary when they say Gorilla Glass should be Gorilla Glass. Its the same screen as galaxy s.Anyway i am afraid removing the digitizer would damage the LCD too by accident and the problem will be larger. so i am not quite ready to do that.i can live with a scratch
Sorry to hear your dramas with the phone.
I have mine now over a month.
I use a flip leather case now, but had none for the first two weeks and I use my phone a lot but with no screen protector and I don't have any scratches on it.
You must have hit something with sharp edges hard.
I had a SG2, never had a screen protector and was exposed as I didn't use a flip case. It never got any major scrathes, but hundreds of tiny ones that could be scene in the right light only.
This is a much better glass in my opinion.
Hope you are able to fix yours without too much trouble.
Cheers.
I too have many minor scratches, it does not hinder its use so I'm alright with it, I was but no longer using the HTC branded flip case that phones4u have me when I upgraded. Offers no protection and is clumsy to answer phone quickly lol.

I have noticed these micro-scratches too (funny I googled HTC One X micro scratches and this page came up). I haven't dropped my phone and I haven't put it in my pocket with anything else. At first I only noticed them in the sun, but now I can see them indoors as well. You have to turn the display off and hold it at an angle to see the scratches, but they are there.
Today i returned mine after 2 weeks it had a scratch in the midle on the screen and it was visible when the screen is off...
I hope they replace it i dont whant to have a scrached phone that costs 700 euro and is suposed to have gorila glass.
And i havent droped it or put it in my pocket with other items.

Are you sure they are scratches? I noticed something similar on my HOX the other day and thought I'd scratched it at first, but the whole screen seems to have that pattern and it's far too regular to be tiny scratches. I think it's part of the screen (digitiser?) as scratches wouldn't look so regular.
Think I have a few on mine now...not gonna get too beet up about it, it's only a phone and will probably be swapping it for something else in six months..... Which will probably get scratched too, lol.

Wow I'm really surprised when I read these posts
My story I had my one x in my pocket no case or screen protector and was in a rush for the bus and just chucked my coins in my pocket not realising it was the same pocket my one x was in and ran for the bus only when I went to get my coins that I realised my phone had been bouncing around with the coins in my pocket like a washing machine while I was running
Subsequently I almost scrapped myself thinking I've commited the ultimate sin I expected to see a crapload of scratches
To my disbelief besides a couple of light scratches on the polycarbonate back that just rubbed off the screen was fine I remember think what?! That can't be right and for the whole bus ride I was furiously examining the screen, holding it on an angle in the light to try and detect even the most minor of scratches and still found nothing ever since then I couldn't stop praising the screen on the one x
The camera lens was also scratch free but I'm thinking that was just sheer luck

Guys I am forced to believe HTC isn't using Gorilla Glass on all models.. I had the Thailand version and it scratched crazy easy. I now have the HTC ONE XL and i can take a key to it..
I have two minor (about 5mm in length) hairline scratches on mine. Inspected my screen at an angle with powerful flashlight just to barely notice them after having read this thread.
I'm not going to be bothered by those, but I am going to do an occasional inspection and if I notice a trend I'll put a screen protector on.
I have some screen protectors for the phone and even applied one, but tore it off immediately because the bare screen is much better to the touch and does not have that stupid rainbow effect the protector had.

maybe some problem from there not using gorila glass.
Get a screen-protector ! I did as soon as I got my phone, why risk it

Yeah, these are definitively legitimate scrathes, very irregular, there is no pattern.
They seem to get worse and worse every day...
A $2 dollar screen protector would have prevented this. Just saying.

I am tired of reading about problems in HOX. I start to think I have another phone no one x. I have it 1.5 month. I have no problem at all.
I am not using screen protector and case. Just a poutch.
Twice I had drop it from the base of the car and hit the screen in different places. No problem.
Usually I put in my pocket without the poutch. There is no scratch on the screen and polycarbonate.
See this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3ri6vrmPbc&feature=player_embedded
So I've had my HTC One X for a few months now and the minute I took it out of the box I put a screen protector on it, not wanting to get fingerprints on it before I put it on. I put it really well, and I kept it like that for a while til I got really fed up with the texture of the screen protector. I just took it off two days ago and it feels so much better! There really is nothing like gorilla glass. But I'm really paranoid about it and don't want it to get scratched, so I was wondering how many people use screen protectors on their HTC one Xs and how has that faired you, and also are there any screen protectors that feel just like gorilla glass?
I don't use a screen protector. Not yet. So far over 30 scraches and counting. The first few scratches were understandable (who would have guessed a pair of keys would rape the **** out of my display?) If it's the oleophobic coating that's being scratched then this is just ridiculous. he rest popped out of nowhere through normal use.
I think some OneXs just came out of a bad batch. My first OneX scratched way too easily, this second one I got (first started developing yellow spots) haven't gotten any scratches at all.

See what I mean? It's not the first time i read about people's screens not being prone to scratches after getting a new handset. Even my friend who owns the one x has not got one single scratch. I'm starting to really get pissed off at htc.

Honestly I know how you feel. I've been disappointed a couple of times with my One X since I got it, in fact I only started being satisfied with it at all once I got rid of Sense. Hardware-wise, though, yeah it could be better, battery life and colors, even. I just hope that mine isn't one of the ones prone to scratches... I really can't afford another one right now, and I would totally buy one anyways @[email protected]
I never used a screen protector on my one x and i have it pretty much since it was released. Don't have a single scratch on my screen yet, the trick is to be careful and not putting the phone and the keys in the same pocket.

Now that does make me feel better.
I use an Invisible Shield HD, and its near impossible to tell anything is on the phone. Only in direct sunlight is it visible, and that is only the edges that can be seen, only slightly. I also had 3 scratches on the screen, and they can't be seen anymore.

Yeah I agree, no scratches on mine, BECAUSE I LOOK AFTER IT
I don't do stupid things like putting it in a pocket with other stuff and then wonder why it's scratched? That's like cleaning your car with a stone and then saying it's more prone to scratches than everyone else's car.

I used my HTC sensation for 11 months with no screen protector and didn't have one scratch on it.
My HOX however I put a zagg screen protector on it straight away. I want to keep it in good condition for resale value in the future.
Apparently zagg have brought out a HD screen protector that doesn't have the orange peel touch effect, I'm searching everywhere but can't find these in the UK at the moment even though you can buy them from the zagg.com

Famous last words!...
I use a case (jelly) but not screen protector. I used a screen protector for about a month on my old desire hd and it was horrible. AND I forked out for an expensive one. Ruins the display and feels clammy to swype on. If you're careful, the screen doesn't get scratched really anyway, imo. It won't stop the screen cracking if you do drop it awkwardly either, which to me is the main worry.
Conclusion: If you bought your phone to enjoy it, don't get a screen protector 'cause they're horrible, if you didn't buy it to enjoy it, sell it and get yourself an old 3310.

My one x is full of microscratches (the ones you can only see tilting your phone in direct sunlight).
I'm EXTRA careful with my phones, and I've never had this problem before with my other htc phones (diamond, diamond 2, HD2, DesireHD, Sensation) some people say it's the coating or whatever, there's even an online petition to ask htc to solve this problem.
Use a screen protector! This phone is extra sensible to microscratches, you've been warned.

Using a Brando UltraClear screen protector, it's simply unbeatable. And yes, I did try Zagg's, Martin's, etc..
I work in a though enviroment from time to time so i don't wanna take any chances.
I use bestskinsever.com Best screenprotector I've ever had, and its much cheaper then the once from Zagg.com
Best Skins Ever are the bomb
I use my phones when running to time and track them, pretty common.
Tonight, half way through my run an epic downpour of flash flood creating proportions occurred drenching me in seconds, whilst the One X was attached to me in a neoprene arm band. There was pretty much zero useful cover
I hid in a large bush to take the worst of it and powered the phone off. The rain never stopped (although it was much less absurd), so I had to finish the remaining 3-odd miles in it, trying to shield the phone from the rest of the rain.
It's now in a bag full of rice (brown, one of it's five a day) on a radiator. Fingers crossed I'm just paranoid and it will power up just fine tomorrow.
If it's perfect unit without gaps and stuff like that, i guess it will be fine .
Hmm.. horrible story, no pocket, roof... nothing to hide? .
I would leave it with the face down and keep my fingers crossed it will function again.
Good luck with it!

I think your chances are quite good mate. The unibody and speaker design make it almost water resistant.
I'm now going 4 weeks since phone was fully submerged and not one issue yet.
Good luck.

Yeah, I think you'll be fine buddy. I remember reading on here about some dude who dropped his HOX in a lake while fishing and it was absolutely fine after pulling it out.
I had the same thing happen to me though, was out running exactly the same as you and got pi$$ed down on in apocalyptic proportions. Just carried on running and the phone was absolutely fine.

Well the problem with one x is the micro usb and headphones that will allow water to seep through. however as you switch off your phone before its fully wet and do not switch it on again until its fully dried, the chances of getting everything to work will be very-very good.
I got soaked to the skin in our beautiful British weather way back in June, an absolute torrential downpour. I was out all day walking, weather was sunny for most of the day so it was a pair of shorts and a shirt and that was it. Walked about two miles in said downpour to train station, I couldn't have been any wetter if I'd jumped in the sea fully clothed. I shielded my hox as best I could just with my hand. Dried it with some paper towels when I got to the station and have never had a problem since, I doubt you'll have any problems.

Yeah that was my plan, getting it powered down as soon as possible should mitigate things.
When taking the phone out of the armband (foamy neoprene, so that should have kept the worst at bay) it was a bit streaky on the surface as you'd expect, but wasn't dripping, so it was towelled (carefully, didn't want to hit the power button) and bagged.
It's been in the rice bag for about 13½ hours now and will stay there 'til this evening (as I am at work now). In the meantime, it's strange not having something with notifications going off all the time, hell I haven't even bothered with a spare phone today... silence is golden
Unibody is a good thing in cases like this, the rear speaker is pretty well sealed, and I don't have any (noticeable) gaps around the screen.
my HOX has fallen on to our wooden floor on 6 or 7 occasions, apart from one tiny tiny svcratch on the screen, this phone has no other blemishes. Quality build!!!!
Crazy downpour 0:1 HTC One X
It has less to do with the phone's design and more to do that regular water just isn't a great conductor. I've pretty much soaked every phone I've had in the last 10 years and never had one fail.
Dropped mine in sink of water months ago. It freaked for a bit resetting itself drained all its battery and wouldn't stay off or charge properly but after a few hours of drying whilst rebooting it was fine. Water marks behind screen cleared after a few days.
Then it was knocked off a table from 4 foot height onto stone floor. Screen shattered. The major weakness of this phone is the protruding screen edges. Glass shatters easier from the edges.
