Just got a SGS2, i've had many SGS and one beloved Motorola Defy. I'd like to upgrade to ICS with a miui/aosp variate or a rom with long press toggles and keep my camera and wifi calling functions....
Is there a good DD ROM out there or should i wait until there is a official base rom for the devs to build??
Thanks!!! what an awesome phone! Might knock the Defy off the best phone ever...
We have an official release date for ics and its in 10 days and counting. I would just wait!

You telling me you just got a GS2? like today or past couple of weeks? Best thing you can do is return it and wait for GS3.
if you recentley signed up for contract and got this phone return it i think GS3 is coming very soon. if not wait a week we have offical ics coming out june 11 much stable miui is to follow
Yeah, needed a phone dropped/threw my SGS with a killer ICS rom and it won't fetch a signal anymore... Other 2 SGSs dropped one needs a new screen and the Defy has the dreaded headphone issue... Had to have one now...
When the SGS3 comes out my wife will upgrade and i'll get it...
I would root and flash Juggernaut. Its stable. Try doing it before ICS update since it might patch the exploit. After ICS is released devs will be able to make better more stable ICS roms. Like CM9 or AOKP!

Yes been thinking about that in 9 Days ICS will be one Gs2 But also Tmo is getting Gs3 so if you just got you phone you can buy the new phone idk price like 600+ USD and maybe try and sell your Gs2 you would think you would get a free or cheap upgrade since you just buy the phone but money money money
Questions go in the Q&A section
If you can get the sgs3 for the same price that you just paid, I'd return it and pick up an older Droid on CL to use for a couple weeks If you keep it though, you're probably better off with Juggernaut or a GB rom for 100% stability since the stable ICS roms will be out very soon.

Hey folks,
I'm still running Juggz 4.x because it has been as stable as stock with extra goodies... Using a very stable/reliable build is important to me, since I'm basically on call 24/7 at work.... Removing the bloat and free features like teathering are important too though.
How long do we expect it to take before we see some stock/rooted/debloated/tweaked ROMs based on the release tomorrow? Also, How long before we'll see stable AOSP and AOKP builds?
I do realize I'm asking for speculation since nobody knows, but based off of past experience, we can take some guesses, right?
I'm dying to throw ICS on my phone, but most of the ROMs available have had enough issues to keep me from trying them.... But tomorrow I'm thinking about flashing the stock ROM immediately, then waiting for reliable/stable ICS ROM from one of our quality devs based on the new code.
So how long do you think guys?
I give it 2 days

If you are unsure, just wait.
I'd certainly recommend waiting especially since you aren't even on UVLDE.
To get a decent AOSP or AOKP, I'd say a week or two after source is released.
It will take a while to get a code merge done, but when it's done it's done.
ICS source came out (according to the CM website blog post about the CM9 RC1 release) 255 days prior to CM9 RC1.
That is a significantly long time to wait for an RC release from the CM team.
I understand the "why"...
ICS was a significant change from GB, that required a lot of work on the CM team's part to get the features/changes implemented that we expect in a CM release.
But what about JB? It isn't a major update like V2.x.x to 4.x.x that the GB to ICS jump was. This makes me think that when source is released, we should see some beta releases (maybe alpha) fairly quickly.
I would guess we have at least a few months to go before JB releases and source drops for it. (if any rough time frame has been officially released, I missed it) So that means the CM team has a little while to work out the last bit of tweaking needed for CM9, and then they will naturally want to shift focus to JB/CM10.
So... thoughts? Think we will see a faster turn around for CM10 than we did CM9?
Google announced at the jelly bean announcement that the ota for the nexus phones and source would be released mid July. So I'm sure as soon as that happens things will pick up pretty quick seeing as they now have a better handle on how the newer stuff works.

Sources for JB should be released Mid-July, so no need to wait months to get them. I don't think it will take a long time for people who had CM9 on their phone to get CM10. There is way less work to do to get from ICS -> JB than to get GB -> ICS (Specially because everything changed in Honeycomb and ICS had these change implemented). We should see CM10 beta soon when the sources are out. Codeworkx will do some magic for us .

Thats what I was thinking... CM10 would be quicker.
(never seen the release announcement, so I guessed on time frame from past announcements)
As posted here:

4.1 source has been / is being pushed to AOSP.
CyanogenMod's response:
https://plus.google.com/117962666888533781522/posts/aRVWBbuWQar
During Cyanogens "keynote" before I/O he mentioned that the push from CM9 to CM10 was going to be MUCH quicker than the push from GB/ICS because not much has changed and they can still merge the ICS changes in to a new JB tree....TODAY! I'd expect to see CM10 nightlies in 2 weeks.
Anyone else hoping it gets called CMX instead of CM10?

The team is already referring to it as CM 10 in their posts.
And just like that we have source...
CMX would be cool.
I was just stirring up a little discussion... and a few hours later... source.
I also agree, it would be way cooler as CMX

Hi, I was thinking of purchasing a LG Nitro. But before jumping the gun I wanted to ask hows the development coming along? Is CM9 stable enough. Such as HW acceleration, wifi, Bluetooth, etc.
I tried searching for answers but didn't come across any change logs on the ROM threads...

CM9 RC2 is definitely stable enough, everything works.
Nightly change logs are here: http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#p930/cm9/next
Initially CM9 on our Nitro was rough, but that's to be expected from brand new ROMs. With the recent release of RC2 though, things are almost downright silky. You can still expect a glitch here and there, but there's usually a workaround.
CM10 is already in the works for Nitro (there's a preview version you can download and use), so there's definitely Dev love going on for the Nitro.

Thanks a lot! Very useful reply
sounds good, since I'm a current Atrix owner and although there is developer commitment (seriously some of the most committed devs I seen!) they are limited by the lack of official drivers. Making HW acceleration among other things impossible. I guess I'm tired of waiting on Motorola to come around and release them. Plus recently my Atrix has been acting a bit spoty with the WiFi (and it's not a software problem).
So its really good to hear the nitro is running smooth with the work from this developer community

Not to sound like an ass but honestly CM7 looks and feels really dated now and with a more stable CM9 for our phone and hopefully CM10 on the way I rather more effort is focused on ICS and JB ROMs rather than CM7 since we already have good GB ROMs for the SGW.

I'm not agree with you.
First, there is not a finished and stable CM rom and is not so good start with new projects at this point.
Why?
Because gingerbred on galaxy w is simply perfect and there is no reason or features in CM9 or in CM10 that justify porting and waste of resources and time.
I hope that someone will finish CM7 job.

Well your welcome to disagree, i'm not forcing my opinion on you or anyone just stating what I think.
There is no finished CM ROM but stable I honestly think the latest CM9 build is stable for daily use and not so good, lol CM9 runs graphic heavy games a whole lot better than GB even when its OC.
Oh yes GB is much much smoother and better than ICS and JB, sigh. There are already good GB ROMs for the SGW so is it such a big deal that someone wants to drop making CM7 and start doing the newest CM10 for our phone its their choice and if I had skills I rather take my shot and making CM9 and CM10 for our phone better rather than stick with ye old CM7.

Agreed. I just can say, " go for the CM10". I want to live the future not the past...
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda premium
Actually, I'm supporting the development of CM9 and CM10 because 'in case of' the ROM becomes standard, I don't have to learn it.
Take an example of the ye old Win XP
Nowadays, Windows 7 has become the new standard of the computing world (of Windows, obviously).
Yes, you can still make Windows XP compatible program (with more cost and testing) , but can you assure that your program (which is made in .. say Win 7 with .NET Framework 3.5 / 4) could run w/o prob in Windows XP while your program works seamlessly in Win 7?
My point here is that we have to take measure on which ROM has brighter future? Will GB be updated again, with more fantastic feature, or will ICS and JB got them?
The problem is that there will be a hell lot of bugs, maybe even a brick... So when I try a new ROM, best I wait till it has only a few bugs that can be replaced with 3rd party apps (eg. Fm radio)
What do you think?

Yeah, bug may exists but that been always a good news if someone try port rom for us!
at least we have a good starting point, cm9 which can be considered as fully working now :good:
Well, If he's really going to port CM10 for us, I hope he knows that may need to rewrite all the drivers again, like in ICS. And I remember he said in CM7 port topic that he doesn't know very much about kernel and drivers development, Oisis was helping him. I thought he should finish CM7 first, but If he consider better to start CM10, so let's go. I'll try to start studying better of kernel development for helping'em out. Like arco's said before, our community has an lack of kernel developers.

Its the right decision, in my opinion - working on a Gingerbread-ROM does not make any sense at the moment - From features to smoothness, ICS is by far the better choice. Although RAM is a bottleneck for some purposes on the Galaxy W, the device as a whole has enough power to profit from the enhancements that came with ICS and JB.
@bangprovn, would you please release your CM7 source code/repo over github or other repos hosting share with maybe some note howto compile it, I have try it but no luck, stuck on brunch ancora command.
It says there is no ancora device code or sumtim like that
On ur cm7 threat osiris had some patch 4 wifi driver, but I'm sure there are some config on device.mk should be aligned correctly, and I think I could learn easily read ur porting process than I have to start from zero, with your mentoring maybe.
Sorry for my bad english
i am exciting~~ for cm10

This will be a powerhouse and fast development in CM10 for our phone. A period of 3-4 months, we have a stable CM ROM.
