OK so received my nexus a couple of days ago, never got a new sim with it so just used my old one. Tonight I have lost signal and data connection (wifi working) and am wondering what the cause of my lack of signal might be down too. I have emergency calls only displayed. Anyone facing this on orange network tonight? Maybe the network is down?
Do I need newer sim? I tried turning off and on a few times and also the command through terminal emulator
Su
Killall servicemanager
Which normally reboots the phone how ever this just made the nexus hang and freeze ans had to pull battery for reboot.
As mentioned I'm on orange, live in the UK and yes I paid my phone bill.
Suggestions?

You should have received a new sim, even for an upgrade.
Looks like your old one has been de-activated by Orange.
Contact them and see if they may be able to activate again. Good luck.
Just a thought but have you checked your apn settings?

Apn is still checked. I have no signal at all only emergency calls is displayed. Old sim is probably deactivated. Another mistake from p4u damn them for not sending new sim.

Did you get this sorted then, our P4U orange upgrade brother?
I posted a similar problem in the other thread where my old sim deactivated and the new one didn't activate- but when I woke up in the morning it was activated.
My Orange upgrade via P4U came along with a letter which had a small black envelope stapled to it - this contained the new SIM.
The old SIM is set to deactivate a couple of days or so after your phone is posted to you.
Problem solved, old sim had to be reactived and new one in post. Thanks guys.

This is weird. When I woke up I restarted my HOX and suddenly signal kept dropping. Keeps saying preparing sim card. What could be causing this? I don't want to keep factory resetting. Seems to be a really great phone but now I don't know if I should return it. Please if anyone can help.

Got exactly the same thing, was told by HTC it was faulty. Send it back for a replacement.

are you using a call blocker? I was getting weird issues when using root call blocker. I had to uninstall it, had read from the app devs they are working on the problem

mine is still stock, but I only had problems after I updated 2-3 days ago
had really great signal before upgrade... havent tried restoring fabric settings, but am searching for custom rom, and will try that out
Already happened to me three times where suddenly "preparing sim card" appears and I lose signal. Had to hard reset all the time. Unfortunately, htc shops here in the Philippines are crap. They say they have to send it to service center even if the phone is a week old. For what? So they open it up? I don't want to have a week old phone opened and fixed. I want a replacement.
Have the phone for 2 week now, and today i also faced this problem for the first time T_T (running stock 1.28)
Just great, first the yellow spots that didn't went away and now this problem on top of it ?
I hope it was a coincidence and hope i won't get worse.
I had my microSIM replaced and so far, crossing my fingers, signal has been full almost all the time. I just had the original SIM cut before, so I hope that was just the problem.
I've read about sim cards been cut to micro sim been a possible cause.

Similar fault here with factory micro Sim

In Slovenia one carrier has this problem. Only SIM cards older than 2 years work so it is a SIM problem. When I asked them about when they will solve this they told me it's HTC's problem and that HTC is working on the problem. Maybe the next update will fix it. SIM cards of other carriers work ok. So if you can, try cards from other carriers. If anyone knows how to fix this I'd be grateful. I don't want to switch my carrier because other two's 3G network is [email protected]
Right now I'm on Straight Talk, but want to switch to T-Mobiles' 4g Monthly plan. Where did you guys get the non-gba 50.01 micro sim card? I'm having no luck searching on Google. Called T-Mobile and had a dumb representative on the phone that kept insisting that I get a sim card and cut it ignoring what I actually needed. Called a lot of stores around me and they said they didn't carry it. Only found one guy on ebay selling them for $30 a piece, I'm not paying that. I would rather buy it officially from T-Mobile.
Bump.

I got my phone from buy mobile phones.net. It came unbranded with a micro sim attached to it. Might be worth giving them a ring. Although I'm not sure if it's just an English site

Your micro sim is for T-Mobile? Anyone else bought tmobile sim cards, I know there's more people.

Yeah sorry, it's a T-Mobile sim

There are other threads also discussing this.
I have a European One X, took me 30 mins of calling to find the right micro SIM. I contacted all of my local (within 5 miles of my house and office) T Mobile stores and struck out. I ended up calling a T Mobile store a few miles out and the store manager was kind enough to email his peers and called me back within 20 mins to tell me which store had it, that the store had it on hold for me and even gave me the name of the manager I should ask for.
T Mo USA customer service is no help as they cannot specify that you are in need of a non GBA micro SIM and so they will simply send you what they have (more than likely a newer micro SIM such as what is being shipped out with the One S).
You have to call around stores and ask yourself. Perhaps you will get lucky as I did and a manager will offer to check other stores and call you back. I simply told the manager I was speaking with that I just purchased an unlocked device from Europe and how excited I was to have it. The manager asked me what device and through "small talk" and a love for gadgets, he took the extra step and sent an email out and called me back (nice).
If you strike out, you will have no other choice but to purchase the SIM from Amazon or eBay.
Good luck!
Yeah that was who I called was the USA customer service. I wish it wasn't so hard to acquire this sim card, but I guess I'll try. Thanks .

Or you can get a regular miniSim and cut it down.

Hope it works out, buddy. I too wasn't happy considering I may have to pay for SIM, let alone such a ridiculous price.
I have three regular size T-Mobile SIM cards version 50.01 if anyone needs one.
I am using one myself in my One X (S720E intl unlocked model) and it works fine.
Now, 2 left.
I have managed to find more of these if anyone needs one.

Hey i've a T-Mobile Branded HTC One M8 one stock Firmware but rooted.
since New Years Eve i got no reception with any sim card.. (Vodafone DE, Eplus DE)
it has a little dent on the back since new years eve.
I opened the device, but all connections were nice and nothing was damaged inside.
What can i do?
If it suddenly stopped with no changes at all to software... And it's dented suddenly.... I'd say it was damaged surely.
Unless something software wise changed?
Or its a Sim card or carrier issue.
But it was obviously banged hard or dropped. I'd be taking it to a service center.
Good luck!
Take out the SIM card and try it on another phone. Since its T-Mobile branded; I would check the imei to make sure that's working from its end http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx.

If you've got it opened, check if there are any pins that stand up and connect to the back cover.
There are usually a couple for the antennas, and they might have gotten bent down when the cover was dented.
Pry them up gently and try it again.
Hi guys,
I would like to ask you for a help - I will spend 2 weeks in Italy, and I need data SIM card only (at least 7 GB would be enough I guess). Would somebody recommend me "onetimeuse" SIM, please? Rechargeable, so if you don't recharge it within 1 year, it will not be valid anymore. Thanks a lot
*bump
I'm looking for exactly the same thing, preferably 4g & looking to buy a mifi unit to run it. Will research & post back if I find anything.

Looks like Wind are a good local provider - you can buy one there. Have seen one on Ebay currently but expires start of August.
I'm leaving tomorrow, so will let you know what I got (last year I had Vodafone 10 GB). I will go to the same store (even if the guy didn't speak english and I don't speak italian ).
Have a great trip & good luck with the SIM.

So finally I got my SIM. I bought Wind 6 GB data, costs 14 euros + 15 euros for SIM card (never paid for SIM card before, but whatever). Be sure you set and enable APN internet.wind . There is also 10 GB from Vodafone for 20 euros (+15 euros for SIM card). For Vodafone make sure to set APN to web.omnitel.it . Guy kept telling me I need tarif forsmartphone, but I took Internet+PC+tablet (for smartphones he got like 2,5 gb for 20 euros heh, so no way). All you need to do, is to set APNs. No big deal.
I am near Venezia, and getting 3G all the time (SIM card is 4G). Enjoy your trip too, m8.
Edit: I was told to wait for SMS confirmation, that card & internet are active. I have waited 4 hours lol. When you get SMS "Open Internet 6 Giga e' attiva. Ogni 28 gg ha 6 Giga di Internet al costo di 14 euro." you can enable data (keep it off till the SMS pops up).
Cheers for the info, much appreciated. I'm looking at getting an unlocked mifi type 4g hotspot. Do you reckon that will work ok with a Wind SIM? I'm not sure if it's possible to set APN details on those.

Guy in front of me was buying wifi hotspot with Vodafone SIM. That's all I know. TBH, I didn't have to set APN, it was set up - I only checked it's set to internet.wind. I didn't need to buy hotspot so I can't give you much info :/
Fair enough, just got a netgear hotspot on eBay, sounds like the apn won't be an issue. The Wind deal sounds good.
