please help!!!! xperia play - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok now ive had my xperia play since christmas and the screen got scratched it the bare screen and i have on massive not too deep scratch and on deep scratch and i wanted to know how to fix this because its really annoying and also what glass does it have because that will help aswell thanks (i need a cheap and fast way of doing it)

I had a scratch on my Gorilla glass of my Samsung Galaxy Ace and as it was not so deep I just used normal toothpaste and rubbed on the screen for a minute and removed the toothpaste with a tissue paper and the scratch went off. I cannot guarantee that it will work but its worth a try! Good luck.
BTW I dont know what glass your phone has.

Toothpaste is slightly abrasive, so it would just lightly "sand" the scratch off.

If you haven't already removed the plastic film that was factory-installed, take it off and POOF -scratches gone.
There's a sheet of plastic stuck on your screen. It's there to hold the shards in place in case you ever break it. Take that off and you have bare mineral glass.

do you have a warranty, because if yes you could probably take it back to verizon (after unhacking it {if necessary}). if no, you will probably have to find a replacement screen (online would be your best bet) and pay someone to replace it (i would NOT try to replace it yourself because my friend went through about 4 psp 3k's trying to put in a replacement screen (after having the fluids leak out ) and breaking the connector because it was built at a really weird angle, almost as if it was intended only for a machine to replace it )
or another option (probably the cheapest) is to buy some of this stuff Displex screen scratch remover
I want tosee if the scratch remover actually a works, you can try that op and post back

Please tell me you all are not talking about that piece of plastic that came on the front of the screen LOL. Every cell phone I ever bought had that same piece of plastic. And to think mines fell off when I put the phone in my pocket the first day I had it...
I went to Rogers and they basically said that they doubt the screen could be repaired. They gave me some bullcrap story about if the repair is under 150 dollars they will do it [which i will have to pay for] but if it is over 150 dollars they will just send it back to me without it being repaired. So they basically told me that even if I was willing to pay whatever price to have it fixed or replaced, they still would not do it if it came up to over 150 dollars.

no it's not the thin little piece of plastic that is on all phones. i just did a google search and it's actually a crystal clear screen protector put on by a machine and if you look VERY closely at the edges of the top of your xplay you will notice a very small raised edge.
plus sony says that the screen is virtually scratch proof (meaning that the op most likely scratched the screen protector {and not the screen itself} and just needs to replace the screen protector)

Thanks for the info! I thought sony was making fun of people with that piece of think plastic film being called a protector
It's not a screen protector, it's a shatter resistant film. But yeah, just take it off and your scratch will likely disappear.

[Q] gorilla glass, no this isnt a "Where to buy it" thread

@MOD: POSTED HERE BECAUSE IT WAS ACCESSORIES RELATED. PLEASE MOVE TO Q&A SECTION IF IT IS NECESSARY
So, I was thinking that:
guys, if i buy a chunk of gorilla glass, can i cut it so it fits the phone? i have the steady hand and good precision, im asking if it work or not. and how much would a chunk of gorilla glass cost? I already got the glass cutting tool my present screen was scratched when i slid it on a normal wood table!! the scratch isnt bad, but really annoying if it reflects the light badly when in sunlight and... you get what im saying
no, you cant cut it with normal glass cutting tool...it is a hardened glass...if you try to do so it may break

can you point out a tool that can cut it? for the general knowlege or maybe practical
I don't think you get a gorrila glass just like in the market. And if you find a seller you would have to buy like huge sheet of glass or sth.
And if you find it, how are you gonna install it??
BTW wouldn't it look odd to have a glass elevation on your phone. If you want to change the touch screen just directly go to Samsung service center. I got my galaxy ace's screen fixed for Rs.2500

I don't think you can do what you are suggesting here. The screen on the phone is not plain glass or plastic, its a digitizer turning touch signals to system functions (hence the "touch screen"). You can't just take a gorilla glass panel and replace the digitizer.
i suggest you use a screen protector (vikuiti perhaps?), it's much cheaper and easier.

To screen protect or not screen protect...

To all my fellow HTC One X owners - are you using protection? LOL
I'm simply asking because I was wondering if anyone is going commando with the phone, and whether the screen has shown any scratches as a result? I know the phone is supposed to be sporting the all-powerful Gorilla Glass 2, but I don't trust it yet and so have put a screen protector on the front. This dulls the lustre of the screen a bit, so I am thinking of removing it.
How about yourselves? What has been your own personal choice?
you never know.
I got mine protected.
i saw a post about someone having scratches already. Then I viewed the crazy video of the gorilla glass2 scratch test performed by one *FINE* lady here in xda.
I decided to protect it then. the screen protector doesn't protect the whole screen though.
Edit: have to rephrase she's here now.

Heres the crazy lady - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590172
I used to have a screen protector on my sg2, then took it off after a year and it looked like a brand new phone, felt like i was missing out on the beautiful screen. I was going to get one for the one x, but I have extra insurance included in my phone contract against any kind of damage, accidental etc.. and it seems like it'll be hard to completely cover the glass, especially on the sides as I've seen on the forums that some people have had issues getting it to stay stuck.
I treat most things like they are a new born child when I first get them, then after a while, you get comfortable. I don't want to have this sexy looking phone and cover it with screen protectors and back covers - even if it did cost a lot of money.
one crazy lady here!
nah i'm not going to bother with a screen protector after my test i think....only thing i'm really concerned about is that camera lense. Would like to know what it's made of and how i can protect it (without sticking gel cases on the back etc)
It's funny that on these scratch tests the device never has any issues.
But reading on the forum some people do have scratches etc. just because they have keys and phone in same pocket... Makes you wonder, what kinda test did the scratchtester do with there HaitchTC One eX (Hahaha you crazy british people).

My right pocket on any kind of clothing is my dedicated phone pocket. I put nothing in there with it aside from my smooth leather wallet. If you put keys in there and other sharp stuff, then it's your own fault in my opinion! You don't throw your house keys at your television or computer do you? So why throw them on your pride and joy mobile phone! hehee

Gorilla Glass my ass...
After owning the phone for like 6 months, check the screen again, can garantee you, you will find some small sand scratches.
You'll probably end up with scratches due to sand particles that somehow end up in your pockets. Basically metal won't scratch the glass, but sand will. I won't bother with a screen protector, but I do expect to see at least a couple of microscratches at some point in the near future.
To be honest the first one is the only one that hurts. After that it's bearable.

I have the HTC branded screen protector on my Desire. It's been on since the day I got the phone around 18mths ago along with a case-mate Tough. The protector still looks like new, with one small scratch on it.
Having said that, I'm still on the fence about the One X screen. I'll probably go for another case-mate Tough as it has been worth the money on the Desire for the protection.

I didn't like the official screen protectors, stuck onto the piece of card with some adhesive, by the time i had pulled them off (as carefully as possible) it left a dint in my screen protectors, both ended up with a horrible air bubble where the adhesive had warped the film.
I might just get a nice case and stick with it.
I'm just waiting to see whether i'm keeping it or selling it, i've been appalled by the battery life so far, but the screen seems to be the culprit, at minimum brightness, the screen eats 1% of the battery for ever 5-10 minutes it is on, hopeless when you're playing games, anyone know any solution to this apart from never playing games on the phone?
Wat screen protectors do you guys use?
I have the official HTC ones on mine. but they dont wrap around the edges. Which causes it to sort of "meh". The problem is that the edges of (my) official screen protector dont connect with the screen.
So I am wondering if there are any other brands that do not have this problem and I can order on ebay/amazon or some other website (I live in belgium )

Replacing outer screen glass?

Since I got my new Note 2 LTE last week, I've got very thin scratches on my screen, which is only visible under direct sunlight - I ordered for a screen protector way before I ordered my phone but my phone came very early in the post. Since these scratches are peeing me off, is they any way I can get the glass replaced? One that's scratch free and genuine?
All help would be greatly appreciated!
PS - Is it possible these scratches occurred through the manufacturing process?
Thank you!
Regards,
Dave
The stylus could have done it?
Yeah, possibly! I mean the scratches are extremely thin. I knew I shouldn't have used that damn stylus 'till I got a screen protector! I think that particles that are able to scratch we're carried by the stylus and left a nasty scratch
After seeing the various scratch tests on youtube, with keys and knives and whatnot(with hardly any scratches),its hard to imagine that stylus couldve done that.
Sand,maybe.
Get it replaced for another reason, and buy a screen protector for that one?
Well, not sure. I think this Gorilla Glass we get on the Note 2 is bu**s***. I've got all these tiny scratches on my phone, after a week; my phone has always been on a table or in my pants pockets with nothing else in the same pocket, I don't get how the hell it got scratched, just noticed it today and was pissed at work lol.

I dont know what you guys are doing. I use my pen, I walk on the beach daily and have the phone in my pocket. I take it out on the production floor at work and dont have any scratchs on my display. Even after 9 months of doing the same with my Note1, I dont have any scratches.
If you're really paranoid, you could research the cost it would cost to get your screen replaced, say $100.
Sell it for $50 cheaper than RRP. Then buy a new one. Profit I guess.

I don't think it's the stylus or your handling as I have been using my note 2 for a few weeks now without a screen protector and I didn't notice any scratches. I don't know the real cause for your scratches but i have to tell you that in the note 2 user guide, there is a statement saying to don't put any screen protector. But it's purely your choice if you want to use it.

Because there is NO need to use any. If sand or dust gonna scratch it then a tiny protector, however pricey it is, won't save it either.
And really, these scratches come as per our usage pattern. I never could able to scratch my Note 1, which I used for 9 months and my S2, which was used for 6+ months. And no, I don't use my device carefully.
But the service center, where I submitted the Note 2 last week, was able to scratch the screen. I told them I'd give them an award.
is the lens glass (outer glass) replacable on the note2 ??on the s3 its quite a hard job to do and i ruined mine while trying.
is it not a combined unit outer glass and touch screen?

thanks for your reply..
i cannot see either in this thread or others a definitive statement if the screen is the same glued to the digitizer type that the s3 has.
i can see the a outer screen can be purchased .. yes .
i am interested if it is the same or not as the s3 as when i heated my s3 up to fix the outer screen on that it buggered it up. and would breath a slight sigh of relief if the note2 outer screen was easier to replace,
forgive my inability to find the part you say i should of read

as I've read and watched on youtube before, I understood that most of the latest LCD/AMOLED/etc (screen) and digitizer(touch panel) of mobile units are glued tightly if not "built" together, hence "further" reducing or providing slimmer waistline for the actual unit,. i believe it can be taken apart but will be a "very" difficult task to do without leaving a mark or worst damaging the LCD/AMOLED screen,. just sharing my thought based on what I've learned on youtube and reviews which mostly is about tearing down new mobile devices,.

Replacing Broken Glass

Hi all
I have a cracked screen on my Galaxy Nexus and want to replace it.
I know the digitizer is stuck to the glass but I've watched a video on YouTube and with a bit of time and patience it should come apart.
Has anyone successfully replace the glass and only the glass on the Galaxy Nexus?
I've seen some replacement glass on eBay for around $20 which doesn't seem too bad. But I want to know when you remove the old glass which would remove the glue holding the old glass on, do I need any glue to stick the new glass on and where would I find this so called glue?
I bought a used broken galaxy nexus off ebay that also has this issue and I am probably gonna try and fix it eventually. I ordered replacement glass off ebay for 15 dollars and its coming with little tools for the job aswell.
Did it come with stuff to stick the glass back on :s
I will probably pick it up on Monday so I can check then.

I did the same thing. Found a nexus on ebay for 40 bucks with a cracked screen. Phone works perfect, I ordered replacement glass only and and I'm just way nervous to do it.

Any luck with this repair? It seems like there are people who say it can't be done and some who say it can. I've watched some videos on this topic as well but they never really show how to put the glass back on without getting air and dust trapped in between the digitizer and the glass.

I had the same issue with my Gnex, but after talking to private service guy,I replaced complete digitiser together with glass. The reason was simple.
As I get info from that guy, you will never be able to protect any dust to stay at digitiser area, so after some time phone will not recognise some touches, because of glue has to be used and it is not easy to cover complete area, that is why probably dust will come inside.
Anyway, those are informations I get from guy who is servicing/repairing all kinds of mobile phones, so this was his opinion and maybe there is better way,how to solve it.
I wish you good luck
It didn't come with glue .
I found this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004WIQW3U/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 which seems like the right thing to me.

ty mate.. i will seriously think about it :good:
Any word on replacing the glass? I've been watching some videos about the process that includes everything except the regluing.
I found one video on the regluing process, but it shows the replacement in an industrial factory setting with an industrial autoclave vacuum to remove any air bubbles present.
I have also seen people on the YouTubes use 3mm wide double sided tape around the entire perimeter of the phone to reduce dust, but I can see potential issues with this method, as the factory method seems to apply a solid layer of adhesive material.
I would like to hear success stories, but I'm inclined to pop this thing open and give out a shot.
