[Q] What to do if you have a scratched/banged up screen? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Xperia Play screen is now pretty messed up. What can I do? I have a scratch and a few lines with weirdly lit pixels. Any suggestions?

do you have a warranty, because if yes you could probably take it back to verizon (after unhacking it {if necessary}). if no, you will probably have to find a replacement screen (online would be your best bet) and pay someone to replace it (i would NOT try to replace it yourself because my friend went through about 4 psp 3k's trying to put in a replacement screen (after having the fluids leak out ) and breaking the connector because it was built at a really weird angle, almost as if it was intended only for a machine to replace it )
or another option (probably the cheapest) is to buy some of this stuff Displex screen scratch remover

I want tosee if the scratch remover actually a works, you can try that op and post back

Please tell me you all are not talking about that piece of plastic that came on the front of the screen LOL. Every cell phone I ever bought had that same piece of plastic. And to think mines fell off when I put the phone in my pocket the first day I had it...

I went to Rogers and they basically said that they doubt the screen could be repaired. They gave me some bullcrap story about if the repair is under 150 dollars they will do it [which i will have to pay for] but if it is over 150 dollars they will just send it back to me without it being repaired. So they basically told me that even if I was willing to pay whatever price to have it fixed or replaced, they still would not do it if it came up to over 150 dollars.

no it's not the thin little piece of plastic that is on all phones. i just did a google search and it's actually a crystal clear screen protector put on by a machine and if you look VERY closely at the edges of the top of your xplay you will notice a very small raised edge.
plus sony says that the screen is virtually scratch proof (meaning that the op most likely scratched the screen protector {and not the screen itself} and just needs to replace the screen protector)

Thanks for the info! I thought sony was making fun of people with that piece of think plastic film being called a protector

It's not a screen protector, it's a shatter resistant film. But yeah, just take it off and your scratch will likely disappear.

[Q] gorilla glass, no this isnt a "Where to buy it" thread

@MOD: POSTED HERE BECAUSE IT WAS ACCESSORIES RELATED. PLEASE MOVE TO Q&A SECTION IF IT IS NECESSARY
So, I was thinking that:
guys, if i buy a chunk of gorilla glass, can i cut it so it fits the phone? i have the steady hand and good precision, im asking if it work or not. and how much would a chunk of gorilla glass cost? I already got the glass cutting tool my present screen was scratched when i slid it on a normal wood table!! the scratch isnt bad, but really annoying if it reflects the light badly when in sunlight and... you get what im saying
no, you cant cut it with normal glass cutting tool...it is a hardened glass...if you try to do so it may break

can you point out a tool that can cut it? for the general knowlege or maybe practical
I don't think you get a gorrila glass just like in the market. And if you find a seller you would have to buy like huge sheet of glass or sth.
And if you find it, how are you gonna install it??
BTW wouldn't it look odd to have a glass elevation on your phone. If you want to change the touch screen just directly go to Samsung service center. I got my galaxy ace's screen fixed for Rs.2500

if u realy want to.....maybe u can cut it just like the glass display and replace the glass part all together....
but u will need alot of skill, and u will have to get gorrilla glass from somewhere ...
its expensive and u will have to probably have to buy a huge chunk.
not advisable and not even sure if its possible

I don't think you can do what you are suggesting here. The screen on the phone is not plain glass or plastic, its a digitizer turning touch signals to system functions (hence the "touch screen"). You can't just take a gorilla glass panel and replace the digitizer.
i suggest you use a screen protector (vikuiti perhaps?), it's much cheaper and easier.

my problem isnt having scratches mainly, its just the glass is so crap! sometimes i can see the lcd flick under my thumb when i use the phone (and im not pressing too hard either) i dont know why. and anyway the gorilla feels better when you touch it. lol i mean gorilla glass.
I agree with tomsi191, I think you'd loose the "touch" functionality.
Just don't press so hard on it !

anyway you can buy a digitizer for about 20$ in ebay and there is even a video tutorial in youtube on how to change it
about the other problems you mentioned, it's not the digitizer, the lcd screen on this phone is crappy (probably the only thing crappy in G3)

I had a scratch on my Gorilla glass of my Samsung Galaxy Ace and as it was not so deep I just used normal toothpaste and rubbed on the screen for a minute and removed the toothpaste with a tissue paper and the scratch went off. I cannot guarantee that it will work but its worth a try! Good luck.
BTW I dont know what glass your phone has.

Toothpaste is slightly abrasive, so it would just lightly "sand" the scratch off.
If you haven't already removed the plastic film that was factory-installed, take it off and POOF -scratches gone.
There's a sheet of plastic stuck on your screen. It's there to hold the shards in place in case you ever break it. Take that off and you have bare mineral glass.

Scratched Already!

UUUUGH
I woke up this morning in a rush, threw my phone in my pocket. Ran out the door to class.
Realized after class when a friend wanted to look at my phone they were with my keys! There are all these little microscratches and a few bigger ones DEAD CENTER.
It isn't too noticeable until light his it from a certain direction.
But I cannot freakin believe that I let that happen. I usually am completely OCD about these things, and I normally put screen protectors and cases on my phone the MINUTE I open the damn thing.
Hell - I do it for all my devices. My laptop, Vita, my gaming consoles, I have protective stuff for everything!
The Note 2 didn't have a Zagg yet, and they list it on their page but it isn't featured or "imaged". The last time I did that with Zagg, the damn thing came to be unpunctured - aka I had to manually cut the material out with a knife (hard as hell to do, near impossible without stretching!)
So I waited one day too long it seems. Screw me right?
I'm so annoyed and bothered now. Brand new phone, brand new scratches. First phone screen scratch issue I've had in over 4 years.
Does anyone know any real solutions (aka not toothpaste -.-) that I could try to buffer them out?

Have you returned phones to ATT before? Im not familiar with the process and how easy it may or may not be.
If you get a replacement, they do sell the Zagg Shields for the Note II at Best Buy. When I first bought my Note 2, I immediately drove to Best Buy and picked up the HD version of the Zagg Shield for it! It definitely looks good on the phone. They had the smudge free version of the shield but I'm not sure if it lowers the clarity...

If you're within your 14 day return window, they will just charge you $35 restock fee and give you a new one. Or .. just suck it up.. slap on a screen protector now and you won't even notice the scratches.
Damn, what the hell are your keys made of? Steel can't even scratch tempered glass let alone gorilla glass 2.

Happened to me the 2nd day I had my Note.
I put it in my backpack for less than 15 minutes in the afternoon. THAT NIGHT I got my new screen protectors in the mail and as I was going to apply the screen I noticed the scratches all over the screen.
The glass is NOT scratch proof by any means just because it is gorilla glass. Sure typical metal wont scratch the screen but just about anything else will.
I took it back to ATT and they switched it for a new one, no questions asked for the restocking price of 35 bucks.
I slapped a screen protector on my new Note the minute I opened the box.

Have had phone for a month now and just noticed a 1cm scratch thats barely visible with the eye but can be felt with my fingernail. No idea what caused is ive been babying this. Thats what I get for believing in gorilla glass. Ordered JLG today to prevent future occurences
If it makes you feel any better I cracked the glass completely... I'm also very careful with my phones. It took a 3 foot fall onto pavement (hands not used the size yet) and the glass is completely shattered... it wasn't even 24 hours old. Now I am waiting fr the repair place to get the full lcd+touch+glass screen back in stock - will cost me over $300 to have it fixed.
Sooo - little scratches on your screen...
I'm not sure what kind of glass Sammie is using on the Note 2 but it seems pretty fragile. My original galaxy and moto Atrix handled much worse falls without any damage whatsoever.

The GN2 Gglass debate has already taken place.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958329
It scratches on every device its been used on so screen protector up or Flip cover to avoid screen damage.
hehe I got lucky on my Epic Touch 4G no scratch ,ding or dents.
GN2 screen is larger more prone to damage so I'm using flip cover protection on it.
I recommend the Tridea case - http://www.amazon.com/Black-Samsung-Premium-T-Mobile-Unlocked/dp/B009SNTHPO/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Yeah I'm sure it's not the phone but just having more screen to scratch/crack etc. I always go caseless and without screen protector but I am buying a coat off armour for this sucker once it's repaired

im sorry but screen protector has nothing to do with the digitier screen LCD, its more likely for the front glass and to keep away from dust between the front glass and the LCD digitier, make sure you build a right adhesive rectangle tape around the digitier LCD

Wow tonight I dropped my phone and it spiderwebbed really bad too. And I have the best otterbox on it. And I dont have insurance on it. So it looks like you had a similar problem right? If I follow your guide I should be able to fix it myself? The phone still works perfectly just glass is smashed. I guess that I really dont have anything to lose right. I still cant belive that the otterbox failed. It was only a 3 foot fall I have drop. I wish I could call otterbox and get them to help but oh well.

yes you will be able to fix it yourself if you listen and follow the video carefully and don't rush in this operation cause you might scratch the LCD digitier...and if your front glass is all shattered, use tape to hold them down before lift the front glass up or take them out in each piece if you feel comfortable in that way

Can i replace my tempered glass ?

Tommorow there coming after my phone for repair ( Upper speaker crackling noise ). Now i have a tempered glass, can i remove it. Place it's somewhere on a mirror and when i get my phone back replaced it ? Or is it better to let it on the screen ?
Please help is welcome, becase this cost 45 dollar.
I took mine off, washed with water and reapplied.
Worked well.

Often wondered how these glass screen protectors get fitted and how they stay on.....only ever used the flexible plastic protectors....and I'm guessing you can't bend these glass ones during fitting like you can the plastic ones lol......
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right

You can bend them a bit.
Basically you clean the screen, then just put it on, press once somewhere and it starts gluing itself on the screen, looks kinda cool.
You can take it off and apply again.

Is there an issue with trapped air? I can't see how it'd be avoided.......

No issues at all, it is flexible, more like a hard thick plastic but still glass.
If you have something in between the glass and screen you will notice it though. So make sure there is no dust there.
