[Solved] Phone Charger Advice! - HTC One X

Hi everyone i purchased new One X.
My brother has an LG P500.
They both have the same micro usb pin chargers.
Can i Use them interchangeably?
The P500 has output rating 5 V and .7 amps
while the One X has 5 V and 1 amps.
Its just that this would help me keep one charger safe in case when other one dies.
Obviously i wont use if there is some technical incompatibility b/w the ratings
EDIT:
Used the lower mA one. It works fine but charging toooo slow.
Now I charge my P500 using HTC one only.
Faster charging.

You can use it for charging yes.. It will charge slower though.
You could get some messages saying there is not enough current on the charger to keep the phone powered and charging at the same time.
This could happen when doing energy-intensive tasks with multi-core utilization.
Just for recharging, it shouldn't be a problem.

HTC say to use only their official chargers but generally you're fine to use any USB charger that follows the Battery Charging Specification and has the same voltage and is similar or better in current capacity. The statement to only use HTC chargers it just to cover HTC if you do decide to plug it into an off spec charger which damages the phone.
I use HP Touchpad chargers ([email protected]) as they're just generic USB chargers and I've got several spares. The phone is perfectly happy charging from it.

Travel charger

I had a question about a charger - I'm interested in getting a second charger for the Vibrant. I see that the charger that comes with the Vibrant says it has an output of 5.0V and 0.7A.
If I have an old LG charger that has an output of 5.1V and 0.7A, would that work. Could it damage the battery in my Vibrant, in anyway.
Thanks.
Not sure about your old charger, but it should work. Try it out at your own risk though.
I did want to comment on the chargers for the Vibrant. The phone seems to want a lot of current to charge properly. I was using an older 5V 500mA charger that served me well with my G1 and older BB Pearl. I had the Vibrant on it and it wouldn't charge fully. I also noticed the same thing when I would hook-up the vibrant to my notebook (typically 500mA max per port).
The good news is that there are a lot of cheap 5V 1A chargers on eBay. Just make sure to check a charger's spec before buying one.
$1.75 wall charger - http://cgi.ebay.com/US-AC-Power-USB...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item4aa03f4b9a
I also bought 5V 1A car chargers and mini USB to micro USB adapters so that I can use my old USB to mini USB cables when I am on the go.

I have used my iphone charger a couple times. Very small letters on the back but I think it says it is 1.0A. Worked fine bit I went back to my vibrant charger. I also found a car charger at a circle K for $9.99. Probably could of got one a little cheaper on ebay but it was there and i needed a charge...lol

Tried my old charger .. it works but is really slow compared to the one that came with the Vibrant. Probably going to end up purchasing an extra one for when I travel.
Personally I don't mind something charging slower when I travel as long as I'm getting more power to the phone than I'm using of course.
Monoprice has 1000mA
Anyone has experience with this wall charger from monoprice? (can't link, please look up Product ID: 6767)
It's rated at 1000mA. The stock charger that came with the vibrant is 700(I think). Will extra 300mA damage my phone?

The extra 300mA will not damage the phone. Most smart phones require 700mA-1A to charge properly. But be careful, cheapo charger has potential to fry your phone. Anytime I buy a charger from ebay or cheap vendor, I plug it in to my old MP3 player for a week before I use it with my newer devices.
I have the same one that you see on monoprice. I've been using it for almost 2 years with no problem at all, YMMV tho.
I'd recommend this one. Looks identical to the charger that comes with my 3GS. Works well, I use it every day at work for more than 6 months now. Again, YMMV.

the max charge rate for a Li-ion battery is 1C. So you could charge at up to 1500mA.
I ordered that exact charger a few days ago.

The amperage rating only tells you the *maximum* possible output. The device (your phone) controls the current draw. As long as the voltage matches (5v), you can use a charger with any amperage rating which is 700mA (0.7A) or higher.
(Note that this only applies to chargers that your phone plugs into. You have to be more careful with the self-contained spare-battery chargers (where you remove the battery from the phone and put it into the charger). But those are normally battery-specific anyway.)
Also, you *might* risk damaging the battery through long-term usage of a charger that can't supply at least the minimum amperage (such as the sfsilicon's 500mA transformer). The end of a charge cycle draws the most power which is probably why sfsilicon couldn't fully charge his battery.

that might explain why my laptop wouldn't always charge to 100% - first few times it did, and i'd find the notification msg when i'd close the laptop, but last few times it didn't
learn something every day
as i use the vibrant tethered every nite while browsing (which is when it was charging), any problem with finishing the charge with the samsung wall charger? ie interrupting the charge when i take it off the laptop?

can i use charger from Motorola V950

can i use charger from motorola v950 on EVO?
thanks
Any micro usb charger should work. Not sure what that phones uses but if they look the same it should work fine.
yes is micro usb
Not all chargers are alike and some kernels will not allow certain chargers to work correctly. Amps and voltages can vary as well. Some will lock up your screen when you plug them in.
I have a wall charger that is for my samsung. It did not charge up my EVO with CM6 but when I installed MYN's ROM and AVA's ROM they would charge. I installed King's Kernel and it works fine. CM6 will not take the charge.
Also the cheap battery charger and battery from Ebay does not like the EVO, DROID X or my Samsung. I think the current is too high and it freezes up the phones. I would not risk them being damaged or overcharged.
If you notice your phone getting hot while charging or the screen locks up then unplug(captain obvious )
oh ok well i just ordered this battery from ebay

so will see how it will work,,???

That's not how current works. The current rating on the charger sets the maximum amount of current the phone can draw from it, it does not set the minimum amount of current that goes into the phone. A 1000mA charger and a 2000mA charger are functionally identical if a device that only draws 500mA is connected to them. Now if a device like the EVO that can draw a maximum of 1000mA is connected to a charger that can only supply 500mA, then either the phone charges more slowly or the charger pops its overcurrent protection and it stops working. Chargers that can handle more than 500mA have their data wires tied together so that the phone can recognize that it is in fact capable of more than 500mA. When you connect the phone to a computer or a charger that provides only 500mA the data lines aren't tied together, so 500mA is the most the phone will draw - which is good since standard usb ports are only rated at up to 500mA. All MicroUSB chargers should be 5V, that is the standard voltage for the USB specification. Now dodgey chargers may have bad regulation in them, which could mean that the actual voltage is more or less than 5V or it has an additional AC ripple that could cause problems.
so can i use charger from motorola? on that charger is 5V-850Am..

Should be fine.
The stock HTC is 5V-1.0A... your charger will just take slightly longer to charger the battery. No big deal

Original Charger

The retail charger that comes with the Moto X charges the phone three to four times faster than after market or other phone's chargers. Two questions:
Why is this?
What technical information about the phone/charger do I need to buy replacement chargers that have the same fast charge capacity?
Thanks!
Taken from Anand's review:
"The Moto X comes with a dual-USB port 850 mA charger, like the previous revision of Motorola devices. In practice I've seen the Moto X reliably pull closer to 1 A from the Moto X bundled charger.
What's interesting however is that the Moto X can charge up to the maximum BC1.2 rate of 1.5A. If you use that kind of charger, it charges impressively fast, around 2.3 hours. "
So when I look for chargers I want one that can provide up to 1.5A? Are there any other caveats needed to make it draw that much? I have a feeling my other chargers theoretically can pull that much but don't for compatibility reasons?
Nope. Just look for one that outputs at least 1.5 amps. More amps will not hurt the phone as the phone will only 'request' the amperage or can handle. Ipad certified chargers are typically rated for 2 amps or greater. Be aware though that if it's a dual USB charger and you plug something into the second plug, you most likely won't be getting the full amperage on both.

Thanks a lot! On a similar note, I have a usb car charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter receptacle. Do I also want to find I one with 1.5A+ output?
Charging faster isn't necessarily always a good thing - remember that a byproduct of quicker charging is more heat - and in the car, especially if you're running Gmaps, etc you can hit the thermal limits so it'll actually stop charging until the battery cools.
I figure there's gotta be a reason besides price that Moto didn't ship a charger without 1.5a support.
I have the "andru" charger that is like $25 on amazon and its one or the fast type chargers. Probably not the cheapest but its a cool looking charger. Lots of friends have them too and love them since Google gave them out at Google I/o

If you can afford the time, I'd recomend a slower charger. Slower charger means less heat which is better for the (non-replaceable) battery.
Hy everybody, I think this is the first time I'm posting in the forum. I don't know if this is too old for a thread, but I've lost my charger (feel really bad about it) and I'm now charging with an universal 0.7A charger. However I'd like to find a Motorola branded charger again, id anyone knows a place where I could buy in Europe? I've checked ebay and couldn't find one that I can be sure it's coming form Motorola. If I cannot find one like that, I guess it'll be ok to buy a 1A charger also universal, based on the discussions here?

Wall Adapter [Q]

Could you guys recommend me a wall adapter?
I heard that i should get a 1500 mA one, but the best i found on amazon is Belkin Universal USB Wall Charger EU which is a 1000 mA ( i'm not allowed to post links yet, but if you search it it's impossible not to find it). I have to tell you that i can only buy it from the UK and that it needs to be a standard EU plug.
The one amazon.de sent me charges fine, the only issue is that it turns on my device if i try to charge it when it's off. The charger is a 5v 1A.
My iPhone 5S wall charger is also a 5v 1A but it "behaves better" i guess, because when my moto G is off wheni plug it to the iPhone 5S wall charger it doesn't turn on my phone automaticaly, it charges fine and the moto g only shows the battery image on screen.
Both charge ok (1A 5v), but if i want to charge my phone when it's off i guess some chargers won't be able to do that. Maybe it's an voltage accuracy.

I use adapter from my Nexus 7, otput is 5V 2A and no problems.
Any wallcharger will do as long it is 500-1500mA but i think anything over 1500mA can be used, but the device will limit it to 1500mA.
But i wouldn't recommend anything over 1500mA as it could damage the device.
The higher the mA is the faster it will charge.
Currently im using the Sony Ericsson Live Dock DK10 to charge my Moto G but im looking for a more powerful charger.
Press Thanks if i have Helped!

Additional amperage does not harm the device, only incorrect voltage will. The phone will only draw as much amperage as the charging chip allows.
Having said that, keep in mind that quick charging will wear out the battery faster than a slower charge.
I'm using a 750mA, 5V Blackberry charger for mine - from empty it takes about 2hrs 45mins to fully charge, so a higher amperage should be pretty fast. Doesn't boot the phone if the phone is off.
i bought this one

didn't receive it yet
In case anyone is wondering whether the old Apple wall charger is working or not (the one from circa 2007. I broke my other decent wall adapter...), it's working almost perfectly. It's correctly recognized as wall charger and ~1A is drawn from. That's quite surprising, It had always been wrongly detected by all the phones I tried to charge with it. The only drawback is that the device can't be charged when off, the device will simply boot as soon as it's plugged. This doesn't happen with proper wall chargers (at least on JB, I don't know if something changed with KK).
To know if a wall charger is detected as such, dial *#*#4636#*#* and see if it says "USB" instead of "CA" in the battery informations. Usually USB means lower current (~500mA) and kernel wakelocks (not always this one, it depends on how the charger is detected). That's not good.
You can also get the amount of current flowing though the battery using CurrentWidget (look for it on the Play Store) or reading the files in /sys/class/power_supply/battery/.
nothing happens if the moto g connect a charger that 2.0a galaxy s4
The Asian dual sim version comes with a charger with a hard wired cable, rather than a micro USB cable (and interestingly, its only got 2 wires connected from what I can tell). Its 500mA, and mine uses a UK plug. I've also tried it with a HTC charger (the moto charger has a VERY long, unwieldy cable) thats also 500mA and it works too. There's no real need for a higher amperage, and it does tend to charge pretty fast.

[Q] htc charger... quick help please

need a quick help here. i accidentally left my charger at work overnight, and someone decided that its his/her's now ....ive searched around and cant find place to buy the original charger that came with the m8. HTC's website doesnt have it. amazon doesnt. even ebay dont carry it.
i need of a charger. currently using a LG G2 charger thats rated 1.8a 5v .....but with a super slow cable.
is the LG charger okay to use? will it damage my m8 in the long run?
i am also buying this cable on amazon. buy or dont buy?

yes, i know there is a quickcharge 2.0 coming out. seeing as the cable is only $5 ...im thinking it will do for now.
thanks in advance
HTC charger outputs 5V and 1.5A. As long as output voltage is same, you can use different chargers. Ampere value just affects charging time. Higher ampere means faster charge. In long term, it can shorten your battery's life, but I don't think 0.3A can cause an observable affect

I use all sorts of chargers. They are pretty much standard now as far as micro usb goes. As said some are higher rated some are lower. I don't think there is any that will damage the phone as long as its designed for charging and is 5v.
I too use multiple chargers and cables and the only issue I've had is a double length cable that works for charging but won't allow connections to the pc
XDA app on m8 running venom
I charger capable of delivering more current will not damage your phone since the phone won't draw more current than it wants.
