Color banding issue - HTC One X

Could you guys tell me is the color banding issue is known for HTC ONE X because I noticed that colors and resolution of some backgrounds and apps are very bad comparing to Sensation XE.
Ex: when adding gmail account, there are blurry lines appear on the background.
Thanks.

I have banding on the Gmail Add Account screen too - using stock O2 1.26 UK. Not rooted or otherwise altered from its box state.
I only have an HD2 for comparison, and that isn't running ICS, so the background is solid black, not graded.

Here, test your phone with this: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php
Looks fine on mine, so the banding may be down to certain apps deliberately limiting the number of colours shown?
The above test seems to rule out a flaw with the phone itself though, which is good!
Ignore many of the other tests on that website - they are not suitable for a small screen or variable backlight, so will indicate a fault where there is none.

Thanks Dave
My screen appears to be ok with the test but I still believe that there is a problem with colors.
Try to open google videos to see it clearly.
Also blue official ics wallpapers appear very bad.
Big thanks.

looks like its software as you can see perfect banding in the display tester app from market
chinese software 1.28 is said to have solved this

Make a screenshot and test it on your computer.

it's the dreaded AOSP banding issue. This is completely software and nothing to worry about.

Thank you all guys
Here are screen shots but on my One X the pictures appear more blurry.

Sensor misaligned? Screen misaligned? Help me out here

Hello there - I was taking some pictures today and noticed that there was a gray line towards the top. I doubt its the sensors because my pictures come out fine. The best way to reproduce is to open the camera app and cover the camera with your hand.
Here is a picture

Hurry and take it back
PS : That gray line never shows up when I watch videos or other things. And its not as bad as it looks in that picture above. How else would I verify if its the screen or the camera?
Strange but i also have this issue, only noticed now you've mentioned it...
And same as you taking a photo of black paper, with the flash off, the grey line doesnt show in the photo.
I guess I will just wait for more people to reply and see whats going on.
We're not the only two at least : http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/20/2650698/galaxy-nexus-camera-viewfinder-issue
Also a previous, yet unhelpful, xda thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1366811.html
Anyone else have inputs?
yes i have this issue as well. it you look at the right side, all that's happening is google's border in the view window is very thin on the left side. the large right side gray area is all part of the UI in the camera app. so the actual view window showing the image is contained within a thin border...since both right and left gray lines are all the same color.
i'm saying it's just a software issue in the way the UI is set up in the camera app.
Just checked and I have this also, though the line seems to only be there when I'm taking a photo, it's gone when I view the picture.
---------- Post added at 01:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 AM ----------
I've just took a screenshot of the camera app and the line appears also.
I also have this. I never noticed before. It only shows when taking a picture though and i only noticed it if the entire picture would be black.
Interesting. I just checked and I have the exact same issue. I even went over to my colleagues desk and tested it on hers and she has the fading gray line at the top as well. Looks like this is pretty standard. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have it too. It also appears in screen shots, so its meant to be there. It looks like it is meant to be part of the camera UI.

You guys are funny. This "issue" is not an issue and has appeared on all stock Google camera apps. I had the same line (albeit thicker) on my Droid 1.
move your hand back and forth and you can see it on the right side too. i think this is intentional. it's just a heavier borderline at the bottom.
I have the same line
I have it too. I noticed this issue on the first day I had my phone (launch day). I've checked for this same issue on other Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones in various verizon stores.....they all have it too.
I'm not worried about it....I'm sure it is normal (for now) until they possible fix it with a software update.
As long as it doesn't show up in photos...no big deal to me.
Just my two cents
that line is supposed to be there. It helps you frame dark pictures.

[Q] Contacts Screen

I have a question about contact screens. I am using the latest CM9 nightly from winner00 (1/29), but I have had this same "issue" with any ROM. Depending on how I get to my favorite contacts, I am presented with two different screens. Sometimes I see Picture 1 and sometimes I see Picture 2, what is the difference and why are they different colors?
Also, am I forced to have the terriblely large icons, or can I go back to a list of favorte contacts with only a small icon of their contact picture? Only seeing 4 contacts per screen is pretty odd to me. I prefer when there is a list (like on Nexus One) of maybe 6 or 8 per page.

Do you have any 3rd party phone/contacts app installed?

negative, I do not. It's also interesting to note that the menus for both are completely different. The dark one has a ton of settings under the menu that I can change. The white one has only 2. Very silly.
Maybe you should ask the developer of the ROM

the dark pic is the phone app, and the light pic is the people app. Both do the similar function but are 2 ways to do it.

Contrast problems on the display?

Hi there,
i am fairly new to the HTC and Android scene. Yesterday i got my HTC One X and the very first i noticed is a problem with the contrast.
Especially when it goes from grey to black, there are blocks visible. It is a bit difficult to make a photo of this issue, but i think you can see it clearly.
Is this a known issue? Can i do something about that?

Many thanks.
That's not contrast.
That is an image that seems to either compression artifacts or was produced with too little bit depth.
There's nothing wrong with the phone, it is faithfully reproducing a crappy image.
This was just an example. It shows the menu of a program (i think google maps).
I have also some photos that look the same where a black area goes into a brighter area.
Also some of dark HTC widgets, like the clock show this.
Like i said, difficult to make a photo of this issue:
Any problems viewing this?
Probably you mean these horizontal stripes. They are there when you look at the angle, but when you look straight, they are not there. I guess this is a problem due to technology used and it looks the same on mine One X. Also, AFAIR there are two different displays used in HOX, both from different manufactures and one of them doesn't have this problem but there are some other minor problems like smaller contrast or brightness, can't exatcly remember right now. It also annoys me but generally it is still the best phone screen I've ever seen and somehow I can get over it

these widgets in particular, and a lot of other things are supposed to change colour gradients, the notification bar being another.
just makes it look more fancy/3d
personally i don't think you have any problems except for the colour depth of the image not being enough, and that is why you see that, if there was more depth, then more detail and you wouldn't see that blocking
try switch your pc to a lower colour depth and youll see the exact same effect.

Thanks. I had the same idea and it looks normal. I also upgrade it to CM10 which does not have these grey to black transitions at all.
So no problem there, just poor graphics by HTC.
Thanks

M8 camera problem, pictures gets small pink/purple areas!

Hello,
Only me having problems with small areas in some photos getting over-saturated in pink/purple?
I'm using stock settings or whatever but it still doesn't help. If I try the Google Camera this is gone, so it seems to be something with the image processing? :S

I had the M7 and this isssue and its not the same really, the M7 issue was more of a purple gradient at the end of the picture xD
This is like small dots showing up in bright areas. If I take a picture with the recently released Google Camera this is all gone, so its software based somehow
But thanks anyway man :victory:
Can't even see what you're showing us lol

I just noticed the same issue just today.. and it's driving me nuts!

I definitely see it. And I am no picture guru at all.
Looks like you got a defective unit ?
HTC UltimEight ?
Does the issue show up in the same spot on the pics? Like a hot photo sensor pixel will do? Or is it in random locations?

[Q] Does the XperiaM camera still blue tint problem after two firmware updates?

Greetings, now that there is a new root method (towelroot) for the new firmware 15.4.A.1.9 (Android 4.3) for single sim Xperia M I am interested to update but ONLY if the camera's blueish tint problem has been fixed. Otherwise it's pointless.
I am on Android 4.1.2, 15.1.C.2.8 and the blueish tint problem under certain lighting conditions is well documented. But what is not documented is whether the newest firmware fixes this...
Can anyone help a brother out?
Questions go in the Q&A section and not here. Please post questions there in the future.
Darn, didn't realize this was gonna be such a hard question to answer. I guess this phone really is a low-use device
No I didn't notice anything blueish... It is fine by me

My Xperia M has a NyanCat boot animation
Yeap,still there.
Not sent from my Xperia.
Well, there's no more bluish tint in my camera in JB 4.3.
But, if it still bluish, try to use other camera software :fingers-crossed:
If it really still bluish, well you need to go to service center :silly:
Bug is still there but not so common. This bug can be easly "enabled" via few steps:
1. Find place with weak light source
2. Open camera - everything is fine
3. Cover camera lens with something for few seconds
4. Uncover it - everthing is blue
For me it happens with JB 4.1.2 with certain types of indoor light and background. Often I would be at a restaurant and take pics of my girlfriend with the white balance set to Auto and the whole pic is bluish. Changing the White Balance to fluorescent then fixes it. Have duplicated this blue tint problem at many locations and backgrounds. My girlfriend also has an Xperia M with the same problem so I know it's not my phone specifically plus this problem has been talked about many many times on this and other forums.
Using another camera app does not help (I tried at least seven different ones). But I chose Snap Camera due to the ability to place a quick toggle for the white balance (so not to get blue freakin pics all the time)
