[Q] Assistance with RUU installs - HTC One X

HI Guys
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543604&page=11
Ive read through the forum link above all 24 pages and downloaded the relevant Stock Roms, the original from HTC and the Vodafone one. Ive got a little confused reading through all the posts. To flash the original stock rom over my current vodafone branded one what steps exactly do i need to take. People are mentioning the unlock via htc dev in the forums is this required to take it back to the original stock rom. I didnt see any clear steps on how to get this done. Ive flashed my old phone numerous times (Desire) but at present am a little worried about using the htcdev way. I know the developers are working on s-off is any of this needed for what im trying to do??
Sorry if this has been asked but im struggling to find the info and down want to risk bricking the phone
Thanks in Advance
Gav

Ruu Query
HI Guys
Sorry i just noticed the massive size difference on the ruu's ive downloaded the original stock rom comes in at around 586 Mg however the Vodafone one i have is only 65 Mg why is there such a massive difference i was under the impression they were the same but one stock from htc and the other with vodafones own crap on it.

help to de brand orange desire

hi i am looking for some help with debranding and updating my desire from orange crap ware to froyo i ask for help as i have killed 3 phones already and dont want to do another one "it's becoming a standing joke round my place" i cant seem to find anyone to unlock it tried 4 different people with code not found to new i suppose.orange wont do it fir 3 months any help would be appreciated i dont mind paying someone say 10-15 pound to do it if there in my area colchester if its all fine and working after thanks in advance
i did get the first one done but then the radio messed up usual orange mess up
I take it by saying you need to unlock them you flashed the WWE with the radio? To fix it all you have to do is take the SIM out, boot the phone and do the OTA update to Froyo which will flash a radio compatible with Orange.
i see there is a htc froyo image available now will this work 100% with orange phones "why do they have to be such a pain" i still nervous about doing it i think orange might get funny if i keep sending them back

Nobody has reported issue with it on Orange—it updates the radio to the correct bands.
yep should work fine
I updated my own 'graphite' Orange phone and a friends 'black' Orange phone.
We're both very happy and flawless
I too had a spangly new Desire on Orange and was dead nervous about rooting it but it was a real straight forward process in the end. Now,with fake flash, I put the Roms I like on my memory card and just flash them whenever I fancy a change. It seems quite daunting but in truth it really is nothing to worry about. Take it from a very nervous first time rooter
pm me if you want a step by step guide or any links.
Thanks for the reply I went and done it to official froyo .ruu last night not worried about rooting just wanted rid of Orange crapware and froyo. All went well apart from use going to sleep had to unplug phone and plugvit back in to get it to work strange but did it all ok

It's very simple use unrevoked to root your desire and flash one of the many custom roms. Or if you want to debrand make a gold card then use one of the RUUs found on the forum.
tried and failed, could get either processes to work and followed the instructions to a T, has orange just locked these phones down completely
No they haven't I have rooted and unrooted my phone many times.

Any help would be great just need to know where the ROM is? And if i hit update on the phone after i have put this rom in will it just update my phone for me to most recent without orange nonsense everywhere?
It doesn't exist - it's never been leaked
There are ways of doing it but it still won't be 100% back to stock
I keep getting CID error when i try to root my orange desire, can anyone help?

So what are the steps to flashing my HTC Desire on Orange UK?
1. Make a Goldcard?
2. Flash the RUU?
3. Root the phone?
4. Flash the ROM?
Would that update the radio and put a custom rom on it?
Thanks for any help for a noob!
Goldcard and then Ruu
You are not obliged to root it, this 2 thinks are very différents.

Debrand confusion

Hi guys,
After much searching on this site I'm still none the wiser as to how to actually debrand my DHD to stock HTC firmware. I found a guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10113881&postcount=11
But steps 1 and 2 both link to the same URL - does step 2 not actually need doing?
Then I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917513
But then lots of people criticised it for missing bits out like S-OFF and using 1.72 firmware as opposed to 1.32.
I'm lost now over what all the H-BOOT/ S-OFF/ Radio S-OFF stuff means and where I can actually obtain a 1.32 RUU from. Visionary seemed to be the only bit that was simple and well documented.
Ultimately I'm not interested in rooting long term, nor applying custom ROM's/ radios etc afterwards - all I want to do is get my DHD as HTC would have it, minus all the Vodafone nonsense and so I can get updates from HTC as opposed to waiting 10 years for Vodafone to butcher them first. Luckily it at least currently accepts any carriers SIM....
Can anyone help un-muddy the waters for me?
Thanks in advance.
Chris.

yes.. probs rooting.

Hey all, new here to posting although use this site alot for the quick fix answers ive had in the past.
How ever decided i would try rooting my desire z as i was looking for that extra control over everything and to loose some of that bloatware just like many of you.
Only thing im having trouble with is actually getting a successful root, im not one to just ask without looking of course but in actual fact ive been at this since 11ish this morning (8hours ago) with no luck. Ive tried about 5 different methods (from xda users such as 'Aegishua' and 'gtrab' guides to a random google searchs also) to no luck at all. Had quite a fair few errors pop up during the process of trying but so far my DZ is still intact and working fine but with S-ON still.
Im not here to ask for someone to explain a fool proof way to root my phone i was just hoping that someone may b able to point me in the right direction of a guide that should hopefully bring some success.
I have an unbranded Desire Z running 2.2.1 (originally 2.2) on Vodafone UK. i could list software details but im hoping someone could either tell me i can't root it since the new security update in 2.2.1 or could pass on a link to a guide that may work for me.
Sorry to sound long winded but its been a day full of "wtf's" amungst other phrases so im just a little lost and confused
Thanks in advance
Matt
if you have adb working and are comfortable with it, use the wiki method..
do you know what firmware version you are? if you are 1.72 or above, you need to downgrade to 1.34 before you will be able to root successfully.
Check in dev section, there is something bout debranding and rooting for DZ and shows what newly one has issue, also you could try the xda wiki methond gfreev.05

Before trying to root you need to follow the step above. This is mainly the mistake people make when they try to root the Desire Z if your a new comer, this is words from the wise. Lol
Your firmware is probably 1.85 or something higher than 1.72 by the looks of things which just means you need to downgrade. But the complicated part is actually getting the downgrade to recognize your vodafone branded Desire Z's unique CID. That's where a goldcard comes in handy because it bypasses the CID check.
Anyways, all you need to do is make a goldcard to downgrade. If you get any errors then post the exact errors word for word if possible.

[Q] How to return HTC One M8 to stock

Hello everyone,
I have almost zero knowledge and M8 is the first android I ever had so apologies for the newbi question.
I got it from my brother rooted and with a custom ROM. I would like to get it back to stock and un-root it just in case I want to sell it.
I did read the forums but I got lost and couldn't find a proper guide that I can follow and I'm afraid Ill brick the phone.
My CID is GLOBA001 and at the moment I have Android revolution HD9.1 installed.
He did not make any backups to anything before he did this (most of the guides I found were assuming I had one)
Any help would be appreciated.

Should I update to Marshmallow?

Good day, guys.
I recently bought a HTC Desire Eye (eye_tuhl) and I was wondering if I should update the phone first to Marshmallow before rooting it? I read through the development threads and it seems that people have difficulty with regard to the Marshmallow firmware. I am planning to flash S.ROM and the patch after rooting.
Also, after rooting, which ROMs are available for flashing for my variant, if I'm going to stay S-ON? I read that some ROMs have problems with S-ON phones. I also wanted to confirm that the Minis Reloaded Kernel also works in S-ON, provided that it will be flashed using a PC and is used with a ported ROM from M8.
I am sorry if the questions seem redundant, I got confused with the whole variant/firmware/S-ON snafu coming from devices which were relatively easy to understand (HTC Sensation, Xperia ZR)
Thank you very much in advance.

Its a long time since I flashed new ROM on my Desire, so I'm not sure about some info (already forget a lot), sorry for that.
But here is it
1) You can't update your firmware to custom one with S-On phone, only using OTA or RUU. But you may need to do that.
(for every Android version you need correct firmware)
2) Some people had problems with installing kernels on S-On devices also.
3) Even if you succed with flashing ROM, you may have problems with it. For example, enormous battery drain (I've this, it was just horrible), mobile data not working, NFC, etc.
So, i think the best way in this situation is OTA.
Please, correct me if i'm wrong.
