UK Radio - Which One? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Just got my stock 4.0.1 Nexus and its got XXKK1. Is this the best for UK networks?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus

XXKL1 has shown the best performance for me, with 4.0.3. 4.0.4 uses LA2 which is also good, i suggest you go straight to 4.0.4

The latest radio for European region is XXLA2 which should theoretically give the best results. However, I think it is very much based on location and network provider. Try both XXKL1 and XXLA2 and see which gives the best signal strength and network speeds.

XXLA2 gave me a 120% boost in 3G speeds. No kidding here.

I know Google recommends xxkk6 or UGkk6 with 4.0.3 however I get abysmal battery life with xxkk6 and I get frequent cell service drops with the stock xxkk1 radio.
What radio are you guys using?

xx seems to work better with AWS/1700 bands. Try the UGKK7 and UGKL1 basebands. Those were designed for canadian carriers which should use the same bands as AT&T.
T-Mobile user here, but considering the phone isn't out here we're pretty much all in the same boat. I've tried XXKK1/6 and UGKL1/KK7, and UGKL1 was by far the best reception for me. My buddy on AT&T said the same. UG designated radios are North American.
My phone came with XXKK1, and when I unlocked the bootloader and switched to a 4.03 ROM, I switched to UGKL1. While I'm getting less "bars" than I used to with my Motorola Milestone, my actual signal strength is about the same (-60dbm in great areas, -90 in my house). I feel like UGKL1 is slightly better, but its tough to say.

Best radio for North America...

just wondering what's the radio.img to flash? I'm in Florida if it makes a difference, also I'm running AOKP build 23 and using Francos kernel 17.2. Thanks.

Curious to know that also. Here in Toronto, the UGKL1 on Rogers sucks ass!
Rogers in Ontario, I vote UGKL1!
- 90's
ive tried XXKK1, XXKK6, XXKL1, UGKK7, UGKL1 and KRKL1. So far i find UGKL1 and korean KRKL1 were the best for me. im currently running UGKL1. But none of these radios have any difference on reception strength, UGKL1 and KRKL1 just do a better job of switch from edge/3g/H and dont kill my battery in the process.
I'm using KK7 in Vancouver. Tried UGKL1 and found KK7 is better
Try UGKL1 if u r in GTA

have tried all most all radios now,,,,,have decided to stick with either UGKL1 or XXKL1....XXKK6 worked fine but drains battery too much and frequently searches for N/W.
UGKL1 is giving better reception on my GN (around -78 dB to -92 dB) while XXKL1 gives around -95 dB with almost equal battery drain.
cant post my usage SS yet (m still a newbie to XDA )
but i would say 25Hrs on single charge with 2 n half hrs SOT is amazing
Hope this helps.!!!
XXKK6 and UGKL1 give me the best results, but I'm running UGKL1 'cause I think it is optimized for North America.

Best Radio for T-Mobile??

I have searched through numerous threads but found mixed answers...
Some say to use european version and some say use North America based radios...
I am currently using the XXKK6 right now and the performance is "OK" but I have feeling it CAN be better...
I live in NYC and T-Mobile service is pretty good out here... Please let me know which radios work the best in your opinion.
Currently running stock Yakju 4.0.4 with unlocked bootloader.
Try XXLA2 considering that is the latest out with the recent yakju OTA. I myself have not seen any major/significant boost to signal strength nor data speeds since my signal here is always superb.
I was using that one on TMob in Atlanta on 4.0.2 until my OTA came in last now. Now I'm 4.0.4 with XXLA2 and its a lot stronger.
I have my radios set to US version, not automatic if that helps.
UGLC1 is better than XXLA2 for me. NYC as well.
Im on tmo in fl...i get better speeds w ug radios over xx ones

mines vary... UGLC1 is the newest radio of them all though.
UG = North America
L = 2012
C = March
1 = Revision 1.

UGCL1, Where can I find this? Its not in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345 Thread....
v4.0.2 and XXKK6 radio with Tmobile here in San Francisco. No call quality or data speed complaints to report. Fwiw I don't work inside a big building office type settings.
I seen Speedtest downloads from 1mbps to 7mbps and uploads from 1mbps to 3mbps. Performance often depends on location and variable network saturation levels.
I'm on XXLA2 and it seems great T-Mo in WA.

It actually is in there, it's just not in the OP because he hasn't updated it yet.

I was thinking of leaving the stock android 4.0.4 radio on my Gnex when it arrives this friday. but i'm curious if changing the radio will improve data speeds.
I want to change to UGLC1 just for testing purposes, and then revert back to the one in the 4.0.4 update but i dont know how to do this.
could someone please post a link to a tutorial which will show me how, thanks.
i'm in Orlando, Florida on T-Mobile

yes changing radios will improve/worsen your data speed.
you have to fastboot flash it... i believe you have to be bootloader unlocked to manually flash these images via bootloader mode.
follow the ROOT guide without using any tool kits (the process of.... fastboot oem unlock) ... just don't root, after its unlocked then type
fastboot flash radio <radioname>.img (make sure its set in your SDK folder). you can find this by googling it / searching it within XDA
Try any of the latest North American Radio: UGLA4 was really good for many american t-mobile users.

That is NOT the latest North America radio. The latest is UGLC1.
UGLC1 > UGLA4 for me.
i'm on UGKL1 and it has been great for me. gotten up to 8Mbps down and 3Mbps up and great service almost everywhere. except places where i've always gotten bad service.
Any reason for me to upgrade to the latest? which i guess is UGLC1?
i am T-Mobile in NYC area and noticed that UGLC1 took really long to regain signal / service when getting out of subway. it was noticeably slower... It was actually longer than the XXLA2. I am flashing UGLA4 now and will report my findings

Best baseband on WIND ?

whats the best baseband you can get on Gnex for wind mobile? sorry if tis b een asked before did a quick search but didnt really find anything... anyways right now i have UGLK1 *stock 4.0.1* but i plan to flash JB through custom rom
Hi Ed,
I too am on Wind Mobile in Toronto (mostly downtown and just east of the DVP areas). I was using the UGLA4, which was the radio the phone came with but switched to the XXLF1 radio with matching RIL. I've found that the radio reception is very good, and arguably better than UGLA4.
I'm sure you've seen the thread but if not, you can find pretty much all the available radios and ril files here
Best radio is to download the latest ones and experiment to see which one is best for you. One radio is good for one person but another person it may be different.
Different for each person. Just try them and see what's best. I'd start with the latest 4.1 radio xxlf1

Optus AU slow 3g speed JB

Hi I have noticed that since being on jellybean roms I have poor 3g speeds, I don't use 3g much because I am usually in wifi range and I have low data allowance, but I often use it to quickly log into my bank account etc. It takes one minute or more just to log in. It used to take a couple of seconds.
My carrier is TPG, an Optus (Australia) reseller which uses UMTS2100MHz/900MHz.
The phone says Mobile Network Type: HSDPA:8
Baseband is I9250XXKK6. I have not flashed a baseband on its own before on this phone, just used whatever came with the rom I guess. Have tried AOKP jb and euroskank CM10. Both the 3g is super slow. Never had this problem on ICS.
My boyfriend has a nexus S still on ICS on the same carrier and his speeds are fine.
Anyone in Australia on Optus/optus reseller can tell me the baseband they found to be the best? I see a couple of AU baseband but they say best for 850mhz (telstra) network
Thanks guys
Just tried the XXLF1 radio. I used the app GetRIL and it said that would be the best match for my rom but the 3g is still terrible.
