The quality difference between the one s and one x are huge. Take a look at the android central one s review for proof (I can't post links).
Any idea why?
It could be that they use two different sensor modules (which have identical specs)
No real way to tell without doing teardowns of both phones.
Perhaps it's a software issue doue to tegra3 drivers and such...? I reckon it will be better once the updates start flowing
reviews say it's the other way around...X photos are better than S
My mate in work has the s, i was doing a comparison yesterday, look much the same to me.
There is actually a YouTube x one vs sensation xe camera and the one x is way too low for quality ,after watching the video I gave xe a 10 ,the one x a 2 ,yes its that bad

It's probably difficult to say because we were not there where the picture was taken so we don't know which one was closer to reality.
But the S one does appear nicer, while the X one is like washed out. But this could be simply due to different exposure. Downloading both and adjusting exposure in Photoshop so the pictures would match would allow for better comparison.
Or maybe S comes with newer software that doesn't do as much postprocessing as X does. I guess camera mod will fix that for us.
I don't have an issue with the One X's photos, aside from the fact they're brutally over-sharpened.
i get an odd yellow tinge when i click photos on my htc on x..is anyone exp the same prob? im wondering if its a defect and should i get it changed..
also the yellowness seems to reduce considerably when the sharpness is reduced..
help someone..i recently bought the htc one x..thank you

I found that reducing the saturation by one level solved it completely. The default camera settings are terrible. The yellow problem seems to kick in when there is low light - I found outdoor shots in full sun didn't have the yellow problem (so far - only had the phone about 4 hours!).

i've been saying this all along don't open your One X and take a photo from some random object in your bedroom at dull lighting lol
go out and have fun and test it in the real world
They're tiny and pretty much worthless. Any camera's pics can look decent when resized so small.

yes and no, the only thing you can't judge from these is the noise levels and sharpness algorithm which we can disable anyway
you can still see the dynamic range, color and most importantly low light with these images
very good contrast in these photos with no levels crushed, if these are truly One X, i can tell you they show the f2.0 doing its job well
the food on page 4 is showing some flash burning which was supposed to be solved with distance measure
and of course a dude with a stable hand
I seriously have zero doubts about this camera, seems good stuff indeed, the sensor is most likely sourced from Sony

good photos mate, thanks
Once again I am a victim of biased reviews which compare an HDR picture taken outdoors with the iPhone 4s not so well HDR function .
But since I get photos very often of my 4 year daughter with various phones which include iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s I can easy compare them with one x .
The photos of one x even with sunshine light have lots of noise and you can notice this even more when you sync them with your pc .
So once again (I did the same last year with Samsung galaxy s2) I have to use the iPhone 4s for my personal moments and keep the one x for work up.
Or better like I did last year sell it to eBay .
Don't get me wrong , I like the one x a lot but it seems that apple puts lots of effort on things other vendors neglect .

Only one review states the truth and this is from the androidcentral
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-one-x-second-opinion
The One X’s 8MP BSI camera is a solid performer, but it doesn’t quite dethrone Sony’s Xperia S, with its ludicrous 12MP EXMOR R sensor. HTC has made strides forward with its camera software, though, which makes taking pictures on the One X quick, easy and painless. Stills are captured almost instantaneously, and the continuous capture mode makes shooting multiple images in quick succession a breeze. Photos taken on the One X look good from a distance, though up-close you’ll see some graininess and artefacting, even in perfectly-lit shots. For better or worse, it’s clear that there’s some pretty aggressive post-processing and noise reduction going on

I thought they were quite similar at first glance but perhaps at closer inspection the iPhone is better....it wouldnt suprise me as Android devices seem to play catch up in terms of hardware...perhaps if iOS wasn't so boring and iTunes didn't disgust me I would have considered purchasing one.
Still happy with the camera, especially compared to my old Desire and holds it own against most others....neither the One X or iPhone could replace our Panasonic compact imo.

Admitted the One X are doing far more better then other 8mgpx phone on capture more lights into the photo. But it turn out to be more noise on the photo. Yes it did a great job on Low Light or No Light condition.
But Sharpness is disappointing me. Even my old DHD have better sharpness but low light. I wish I could merge both of them.
*I believe is the new ISO feature which cause this noise issue. (correct me on this)
From my personal experience with both iPhone & 1X I'll tell you that iPhone pictures look amazing ON the iPhone screen. On my computer, TV, or any other mobile, they are horrible - very grainy and over processed!!
In the same lighting conditions, I cannot even compare the 1X's photos against the iPhone's...its just not fair. I'll attach example photos shortly.
I made that comparison when I got my One X. This was my result:
http://i.imgur.com/EXoWD.jpg
So yes, the iPhone 4S is sharper and has better optics than the One X.

Could you compare equal distances? It seems like the iPhone is shooting the building on the side which is much closer than the building the One X is shooting.

Can you go into your camera settings on the 1X and ensure it is set to 4:3 aspect ratio and do it again?
Does this happen with a third party camera app also?

That's because it's a phone with a tiny little sensor. What did you expect? Although most compact digicams aren't much better.
Try a Nokia 808 Pureview... That's about the only way you'll get markedly better low light performance in a phone (because it has a bigger sensor than pretty much every compact camera )

Haha, don't say twice.. I was thinking the same but after today..
My HOX makes really crappy low light photos too. Both my DHD and Sensation camera take better low light pics, main difference is that the HOX-es shutter speed is much quicker. HTC raised HOX camera capabilities sky hi, but It's nothing better in pics quality then older HTC models.
Well, that's my opinion...

Have you tried the low light mode? Not tried it myself but the name suggests it may be handy in these situations.
I have a 500 pound camera with a 200 lense on it, and it won't take good pictures without light, all good picture need light.
This is a phone with a basic camera

Mine also took a photo with one bed side lamp on at night and flash and got a grainy noisey image, my sgs2 took better images at night with flash
HTC probably made it a higher priority to have low blur, which means faster shutter speeds, which means that at night the phone will either amp up the ISO to the max (NOISE) or use LED flash.

I'm sorry but I don't understand your second sentence. You mean it doesn't look like a 8mp image? Megapixel is just a resolution, the number of pixels in an image and no way an indicator of any sort of quality.

I´d like to know it too. The compression is pretty strong and you can see artifacts even on pictures taken with good light.
I downloaded Camera 360 for this reason - adjustable compression (if I remember)
Try igcamera free version, its the best if you ask me, Camera ICS+ is also good.
Cheers.
Wow! I didn't realize how aggressive the compression was until I tested this.
Took two pictures of the same subject, one with each camera app:
Default Camera app: 1.3mb
ICS Camera app: 4.3mb.
ICS camera pic has noticeably better quality.
Why would HTC do this? What is the benefit of making the pictures so small? They did this on the Vivid, too, including video, and it kind of ruined the quality.

Yup kinda of sucks doesn't it?
Also checkout the different in bit rate when recording with the stock camera and the igcamera or ICS+
You get like 12 mbps in bit rate with the stock and with the others you get 30 or more igcamera has the option to go to 100mbps, the difference is very noticeable.

Ics takes worse pictures than stock I found, grainy in low light and over exposed out side.
I took a picture of my dogs in the river by my house with both stock and ics, and ics made the water purple.

Well I tried the lgcamera and ics camera.. well the lgcamera is bad in low light conditions and ics camera crops the photo.. it doesn't take advantage of the full ratio.. by the way what I did observe the phone gets heated up like crazy at 50 degrees battery temperature.. well loosing a little detail to battery drain I don't mind.. I generally take portrait or group photos in good lighting conditions.. well this is my take on this..

These three photos were taken one after the other in the same conditions, first one is with the stock camera, second one is with camera 360 and the third one is taken with ICS camera, I prefer the stock, more natural colours in my opinion, what does everyone think. This is the north coast of Ireland.
I'm not a pro by any means, but I think we can all agree that images shot in low light conditions with the HTC one x lack detail and are extremely grainy. The image chip was supposedly going to give us a superior camera experience but after trying the stock camera, ics + and a few others I'm still less than impressed. Not giving up hope yet though that the right software modifications could still make this a great point and shooter, as under perfect lighting it performs extremely well.
I'm currently trying procapture. In direct comparison with other alternatives mentioned here, I am finding the images to be of marginally better quality when pointing and shooting in shades and less than ideal indoor lighting. Although blacks remain too gray for my taste.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
The camera takes great pictures under good lighting as examplified by your images. My problem is that for everyday situations, where lighting is usually not ideal, the picture quality is horrendous.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I've tried almost every camera application I can find and, honestly, I find the stock HTC camera app to be the best. Some applications are better in certain situations, but the stock camera app is the best all round. People always complain about the terrible low light pictures but with the exception of the Galaxy S 3 and some of the Xperia range, I've never owned a phone that can take such good photos.
The advert with the sky diver taking videos and photos is ridiculous and misleading though, those videos and pictures would look awful!

I agree with you but the recording is nicer with ICS due to the bit rate which HTC SHOULD have fixed somehow...
With every app i tried video recording looses focus
refocusses every 20-25sec or so
If a buy htc one x is there a possibility in the future with a custom rom the camera match the quality of galaxy s3 both in video (higher bit rate and fps) and pictures (not so much noise)?
I love the build quality of one x and the amazing display but i am more close to buying a galaxy s3 at the moment because of the better camera so it's important for me if a developer answer honestly my question above.

htc has a better camera for photos definitely but i'ld say that the first video s3 won (guy brushing though fence)and second htc one won (road with guy on bike) over all s3 does videos better until some works out a mod for the one x.

Hi
I don't understand what you mean, Galaxy SIII doesn't have any pros in case of Camera
The camera quality in One X is much better, taking better and faster pictures (Thanks to dedicated processor for camera) and has the ability to take 1080p 30fps video, which is exactly what SGS3 can do And also with it's 2.0f optic, it takes much better pictures in low light (which is what people have in they're normal life :| )

i have to agree with you that htc one x is better in low light but i saw a lot of videos in youtube from both phones and i belive galaxy s3 has by far a better video at the moment. As for picture quality from a lot of samples a saw i believe the one x takes very good shots but with a lot of noise compared to the galaxy s3
Auto mode for the one x camera is not the best mode.Try HDR mode, the photos you take will look awesome,it's sharper and more beautiful.Definitely better than S3 in my opinion.

Video brightness and saturation, which are software related, Yes, SGS3 is a bit better (Resolution and frame rate is the same though, 1080p 30fps)
And you're right, you get more noise in One X, that's because of the weird ISO configuration and I don't know why it's like that, You should take it out of auto and play with the options manually, gets a lot better, or use HDR if you're a noob in photography)

For being f/2.0, it really doesn't take that great of dark shots in my opinion.
I think a lot of the HOX issues are due to compression on pictures and video though. I saw a thread talking about using other apps for less compression, but results seemed mixed.

The compression in pictures doesn't do much, icscamera has 4 mb files stock about 2 and stock is still better and the compression on videos is just audio, its the fps drops that need to be sorted really.
