Google Flashing Samsung Epic to Alternat Carriers. I believe you need a donor phone from that carrier.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

Who are you looking to go to? Just curious.

I thought I read some where that this phone can use cricket...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA

mine even flashed to a carrier outside US called Smart-Telecom, sometime can be buggy, but as long as you flashed correctly everything should be working.

I know I've seen posts from people who have flashed their epic to work on Boost or Cricket.

Our epic's use CDMA technology, theoretically, they could be reprogrammed to work on any CDMA Carrier given that the following is done.
#1 The Carrier allows adding ESNs to their database, thus you'll get working talk and text.
(You'll have to manually know the rest of the programming to each carrier and input the missing values. Not to mention some companies make it even tougher by hardcoding things into the framework-res)
#2 The carrier does NOT allow adding of ESNs to which you'll then need to drop more bills, buy a donor phone that you can read its values from, and port that to your epic.
It is not a guarantee that all CDMA carriers will work with 100% things functioning correctly, thus not all carriers go through the trouble of doing OTA programming to phones that aren't natively theirs. Although some do at least give you the needed programming settings, you may get lucky and find guides that other people have wrote up that are tedious, but good to follow. Cutting you the hours of work it took to write the guides, just so you can follow it with everything working in like 30 mins of your own time.

To OP:Actually the Honest answer is yes, due to a lawsuit against sprint you ARE allowed to bring your own phone to sprint as lone as it's already flashed over to the sprint network, although not everything will work depending on how you flash it or have it done by. it's the same way with all carrier's, if you have a cdma phone it is allowed on any CDMA network (besides possibly the CDMA Iphone4). and any GSM phone will work with any GSM tech Carrier.
To: ichefae85 do a little research before giving someone an answer on this subject, a CDMA phone can be flashed to any Carrier whether it be Cricket, Metro, Boost, or Sprint! They just will not flash all the information over for you, you have to do that either yourself or 3rd-party. Also if you do not believe me Search on google for the FCC ruling on the matter
The reason you CANNOT use a non-Sprint phone on the Sprint network is that ESN cloning (the method used to obtain a flash) is highly illegal when performed by anyone other then network personnel, so while doable, Sprint won't do it so in this case its a felony.

Is the E4GT unlockable for Verizon?

Would much rather keep my E4GT than get a Galaxy Nexus. Can I use it on VZ?
No you can not. Verizon does not allow sprint phones on their network.

You trying to.say that those methods in them threads are not legal?

Technically yea they are not legal if you are doing It and paying for service not so bad but yea they frown upon it because it can be done to steal service
Cricket does not involve changing Esn ....boost and virgin and others do because you can't use phones that they don't sell and are usually low range Android....you can't call up virgin and have them activate a topic touch but you can go to cricket and they will flash it

Tmobile 3g plan

I had a hd2, but I bought my friends tmo samsung galaxy s2. At the moment I can only access the internet through wifi, when I try to go online with just the phone with my plan it comes up.. your data plan does not support this device. Anyway I can get around that and still be able to use my 3g data with this phone or do I have to actually update my plan to 4g for this phone in order to get data again?
Have you tried going into advanced settings and turning off 4g? The settings would be accessible from the phone dial pad with a particular code.... Something like *#0011# I can't remember the exact code but if you poke around for it I'm sure it's been posted before.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
edit. Just thought about it for another second... You would probably have to tell the phone to use edge only. Not sure it would work, but I am sure it would suck. I would look for it in the settings, but if my girl woke up and I was rummaging through her phone I might look like a creep.
Hmm you must be on the old grandfather data plan. TMobile blocks any of their 4g devices from utilizing it. If you want to continue using your old data plan you would need the telus version i think. I know this is true with the sensation and amaze, possibly other phones too...basically any non TMobile branded phone.

In the united states, last I've read, is that they just fine you a hefty fine. And I think getting banned from whichever carrier you were using. It's not like you go to jail. Unless something gas changed.

I would try the different apn people use to get around throttling; in the Hd2 days, data was 3 different packages: smartphone (windows devices), G1 (which would eventually become Android), and BlackBerry; if you mismatched them, your data would be touch and go at best.
Back then it was an easy fix; to do so now, you'd have to have them change your plan to the new ones WHICH WILL EXTEND YOUR CONTRACT LENGTH but will not affect your upgrade eligibility.
The hd2 is still such an amazing phone.

Yes, it can be used on other networks. Mine is on Verizon Wireless. It's not the easiest process.
I flash phones all the time was just wanting to know if there would be any additional steps id have to take?

Oh, I couldn't tell you. I've only done it once. I had issues with 3g but went away once I flashed to GB rom.
Question is there anyway to get rid of the Sprint stuff so it won't keep complaining to update on stockish roms?
No there shouldn't be any diffrent steps as long as you have the donor phone you should be good.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I got a D710 with bad esn, and use it on cricket. Stock roms suck, I rarely find an mms fix that works on most, and can't get voice mail notifications. AOSP is better, I get voicemail out the box, but nothing seemed to work on MMS. I'm not a pro, but have flashed my share of devices. Using a doaner phone means esn change, that is an iffy subject. Change it to use on another carrier? Why, when you could do the same thing and keep it on Sprint? Not legal either way. Bad esn means failed to pay the bill or was claimed lost/stolen. Either way, changing the esn to use it is considered fraud. The phone belongs to the carrier. No one would hunt you done for it, but you should know about it. Soon all the black listed cdma devices will be in one database, and just flashing a device won't be a way to use it. "Cleaning up" an esn or part it out will be all the devices with bad esns will be good for.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Ya I have bought bad ESN phones just to flash them to cricket which is relatively heard other providers can be a lot harder but never tried. And cricket will pretty much allow anything on there network.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
May want to check also with the parties you're donating to. Many of them may not need to activate it - in which case ESN doesn't really matter. Bad ESNs can be flashed to other carriers, but Sprint may take some talks to get that working - and assuming they're nice enough to do it.
Well there's flashing and esn changing. Flashing is not touching the esn and taking it to another Sprint MNVO and just activating it either legitimately (some are byod) or just changing some settings on your end and then activating it on said mnvo carrier. Then there's changing the esn. If there are carriers that only allow their devices, then youd have to go this route which is a bit complicated and not for the average user. This involves obtaining a donor phone (one that the carrier sells) and taking the esn and a bunch of other settings from that phone and plugging it into the phone you want to use. Ive done this successfully with an epic touch 4g on Platinumtel and Virgin Mobile. It's been working perfectly for the last 9 months. It is completely legal. Where it becomes illegal and fraudulent is if you clone someone elses phone and do not pay the bill (read this for more info although it's still a gray area http://www.hackerscatalog.com/Services/TECH_Notes/one.html) So yes, you can do a lot with a phone with a bad esn if you know what you're doing or pay someone who does. Keep in mind it would be easier to take a sprint phone to virgin mobile or verizon phone to page plus, etc. A lot of the settings will stay the same and cdma carriers use different frequencies for data and you might end up with 1x for data. If you need a how to guide, I could post a link. Let me know.

[Q] Need Some Help....

I have an HTC EVO 4G from Sprint, I recently did the HTCDev unlock on the bootloader, but what I'm trying to accomplish is unlocking/rooting the phone to be used on another carrier other than Sprint, but all the info I've gathered I can determine that my phone's bootloader is unlocked, but can't find any info on whether or not doing so also unlocked it so I can use the EVO on another CDMA carrier or if there are additional steps needed to make that possible as well?!?! Just need some helpful advice whether I've truly already achieved what I'm wanting to do or point me in the right direction to finish the process so I can take my phone to another carrier other than Sprint. Thanks for any help
What carrier are you trying to flash to?
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'd like to flash it to work with Verizon or any other CDMA company, which I know both companies (Sprint and Verizon) use CMDA instead of GSM, like I said I know for certain my bootloader is unlocked, just wanting to make sure it actually unlocked it to work on another carrier.
*Bump*
osahitur from
No one has any input at all??
Unlike gsm cdma are not locked to your carrier. Just look for a guide to flash to the carrier you want. I would suggest boost or cricket if they have good coverage in your area.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Oh ok I'll have to look into that then, are Boost and or Cricket good carriers?
I use cricket myself and while the actual service in my area is good customer support is worthless. Most of their employees are brainless and have no clue about anything. On the plus side they will activate any phone from any carrier.
I believe that with boost it is a bit more work. Been told you need a donor phone from boost to activate but again I am not 100% sure on that.
I suggest checking out the coverage maps for your area before flashing. Also both offer 4g but use lte while the evo uses wimax so you won't be able to get 4g coverage no matter the carrier you choose.

Thanks for the info! I greatly appreciate it, I've been trying to locate a good link to download CDMA Workshop to be able to get my MSL so I can flash different PRL's to my phone because the Evo is not activated right now so I can't download the free MSL reader from the Play Store and every link I find is broken and doesn't work to actually get the CDMA Workshop downloaded....
Google "how to flash evo 4g to cricket" open guide from lovelysms and use the link there.

Thanks! I'll do that, I greatly appreciate all your help
