Just D/L new SOS 6 in 1 and flashed. Wondering who else thinks this is the ultimate in user input experience. Worked awesome for me.!!!

I think its a little over the top but it it really nice being able to customize your Rom before flashing

I hope the future of flashing all custom ROMs goes in this direction. Still has some bugs to work out, but defiantely better than flashing your ROM, then your kernel, then your mods. In one download and one recovery session you get it all.
I liked aroma. it was nice to get everything done in one shot. Wonder when more developers will make the switch to aroma. Thanks to swag and other developers for bringing us this great tool and hopefully more to come.

Glad to hear people like it! I personally love it! Props to amarullz for developing AROMA!!!
It is great, choose the mods provided by the developer of the rom which should better ensure compatibility. Love the choice of kernels that some roms are providing, people always wonder what kernel works best with "___" Rom, the top kernels are provided. Theme support for roms, more themers would be nice for a variety of visual styles/schemes. Bloatware, choose what to keep, what to remove at instal, a guy could go on all day here
The installer is great, been using SOS since November & can't get enough. Only issue is since the Aroma Installer update my speaker seems to have a crackling sound, tried all the kernels and same problem.

Wow...Is there a question in there?
All the ROM's feel the same to you? Try Warm or Cyanogen. Best ROM's ever.
not quite sure what you are asking here... i'll be vague as well... use which ever ROM you try out that you like the best
try vaelpak rom, www.vaelek.com , you won't find better dev. support
even has a special settings app for it in the market for free called vaelpak settings check out the screen shots in market
Best battery life and the best rom is MIUI, hands down
If you want sense then mikfroyo is the way to go

If you are only looking at those 2 roms i would say fresh. You say you dont want notification bar power controls.... almost every custom rom now has this.
Calk's Evio rom does have a mod that you can flash to remove it. It probably will work for any sense rom but i would nand droid first since this is untested. Additionally if the rom you use is themed it will likely remove the theme. Personally i am a fan of Evio and The New Koni's Elite Rom is out standing. Almost all sense roms are going to feel the same the fact is they are built off the same base. The only real difference is tweaks made for performance and the theme they put on. The tweaks wont visibly see they are behind the scenes the theme you will.
your last option is to read the post on how to modify the framework to get the notification bar work in reverse and remove it yourself.

I would totally disagree with that statement.
I for one love having an app drawer instead home screens with blank spots, and 100% working bluetooth, and receiving MMS, and using HDMI...but then again that is just me.
MIUI is a new and exciting concept, and every release they put out i flash it on my phone until i realize that it's still broken to the point that i don't want to use it anymore (usually 1 day), and then i flash back to FRESH or some other sense rom with a SBC kernel.
Oh and working USB tether is a MUST for me! Which MIUI does NOT do...at least not with WinXP machines.
I agree MIUI is a very different rom but i would not go so far as saying it is the best rom. In fact i dont think anyone can say what the best rom is because it is all personal preference.
Personally i didnt like MIUI
i totally agree. i need to start cooking roms. cuz every rom i try, even stock i have something visual or performance wise wrong. but i did enjoy fresh over sprint lovers fyi
K thanks guys sprint lovers wouldn't boot up

Whoa, all roms feel the same to you? I'm almost blown away by this comment. How long have you been using the Evo and messing with roms?
I agree with someone else here, MIUI is my favorite. Ava has my favorite sense rom.
God, so many great ROMs! I have a small selection that I put on my phone and those that I root for others.
My preferred custom Sense ROMs (not necessarily better or worse than any others) are EViO and Azrael, each slightly different but both great. Using EViO tonight.
Preferred Stock-ish ROM would be StockTurbo. Perfect for people like my wife!
Sense/AOSP tween ROM is Vaelpak..am excellent, very eccentric ROM.
Current fav AOSP, and what's backup up in my nandroid folder, is KingsROM Ultra Blue HAZE GBv10. I know, its a GB ROM, but I haven't had any issues with it, I haven't found anything that didn't work, and damn I love the GB cursor finger in text input fields!
This probably doesn't help anyone, but thank you for your time anyway.
Sorry if I've got this wrong and misunderstood things but now that Jan is preventing other devs from using his Tweaks and Extended Quick Settings does this mean that none of the other roms from now on will have these features?
I know some have their own tweaks app similar to Jan's but they are missing the EQS. Is this because Jan won't allow anyone to use it or is it because new roms are based on the new software version and the EQS isn't compatable yet?
Thanks.
No that is (thankfully) not the case. Please check out the CoreDroid ROM thread. Read Sergio's original post. Tweaks (CoreDroid Suite Tools) coming to anyone who wants them!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601408
Thanks, that's good to hear. Just had a look at the Coredroid thread, never flashed it before as the theme isn't really my cup of tea, but lovely to see Sergio sharing his amazing work for all to use. Much more Android spirited
Thanks, and keep an eye on it. There are more things being considered on the theme front that may be more your thing.
Sounds interesting, I'll keep watching...thanks.
Just noticed though, no quicksettings/EQS Someone said it may be in the next version but it's a huge amount of work for Sergio.
I hope it can be implemented onto other roms as I can't live without it lol, and much as I like the Charmeleon rom I don't want to feel I can't leave it because the feature I need is exclusive to that rom.
I really think it's sad that Jan isn't sharing anymore I appreciate he's done a lot of work but so have a lot of people on other things such as kernels, theming, etc. Perhaps he could make his work into a paid app or something so people can install it on any rom.
Sorry I should have made myself clearer. It is coming in the build we are currently testing (v3.6) and after that, it should be available for everyone to use. No one is going to have to part with money for it!
We had to take it out of 3.5 and Sergio has written his own from scratch. Like you said, a shame, but that's what we had to do.
We are all testing like crazy to get this latest build up for everyone to enjoy. Can't give you an ETA unfortunately because as much as we are all itching to get this new ROM out there, we want to make sure we don't miss anything in our hurry.
Don't forget to check out the CoreDroid Themes and Mods thread in the Themes and Apps section. Plenty of mods there if you don't like the default CD look, plus we always leave the stock HTC Skins in the ROM. All the screen shots you see are from the CoreDroid skins.
We have some very talented and helpful themers on the team. If there is something you would like, perhaps see if they can make it for you.
Thank you for explaining, really looking forward to the new version with the EQS. Your hard work and that of your team is very much appreciated.
I'll definitely try out the new Coredroid rom, after digging a bit deeper into the thread I found some really nicely themed calculators, status bar mods and other apps that look amazing.
Thank you very much for explaining everything Will definitely try out the new rom and send a beer or two your way!
hey guyss,, i have tried many custom roms but always find alot of bugs and battery drain issues,, i tried custom gb roms too but didn't satisfy completely,, custom roms always help you to experience new ui and new features , i salute to effort of the developers, but if you need your phone just for basic funtions not for some cool features,, then here is a method to get the best rom.
1- first install a latest official rom(stock kernel). here is the link,,, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235
2- now download the rom cleaner tool and run that with any recovery and select the option rom cleaner and then no sense and choose any launcher. here is the link for rom cleaner tool ( remember rom cleaner tool is in zip file so you have to flash that zip through any recovery) ,,, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050283
3- download and install daemon controller,,, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949502
download and enjoy the fastest rom with stock kernal.
thank you.
sorry for my bad english,
I recommend viperDHD
ViperDHD for sense and Codefire X for AOSP/AOKP.

Everyone is different.
I'm running randomblame's Jelly Time R1 (soon to be R2) Jelly Bean.
Check the Dev section - usually the most popular one will tell the answer (and for newbies it's probably the best one).
I change the ROM often to get the last and best of everyone. Now I'm using Codefirex JB 4.2 and it's very good.
I prefer no SENSE ROMs.
i am on Blackout v3.2
i trimmed sense with no-sense script
and finally using w8 launcher

so it is fine

There is no best rom what may be great to one may be total crap to another. Only you can tell what's best for you and what you need it to do.
Only advice anyone can tell you is
1. Gingerbreads are solid.
2. ICS have minor issues though close to solid.
3. Jelly Bean also has minor issues though they are becoming solids as well.
Read the last few pages of all roms and you will get somewhat of an idea what issues users are having. This is a search and learn sight we all did it. No one will hold your hand and lead you along the way.

Agreed, but ICS ROMs are essentially solid now.
4.1.2 ROMS are stable(ish)

viper DHD is amazing
currently, jb 4.2.1 codefireX is awesome with tons of tweaks and viperDHD for sense.
Its true. Everyone is different. A lot of people have moved on from this phone, including developers. Its said, but this is why I went back to iPhone 5. I still like to poke my head back in here for a look once in a while. I know this doesn't help you at all, but its midnight and i'm bored. Cheers.

Greetings everyone.
I would like to root and install a new ROM on my girlfriend's Incredible 2. Now normally I would experiment myself but since it is not my own phone I will not have the opportunity to go flash crazy and try everything. As such I would like to get some recommendations. The main thing would be speed and stability. I do not know what she has done to her phone I just know that it is stock something. I am also unsure of what root method to use but that is simply due to the fact that I haven't been able to check anything yet. I just want to get some groundwork done before I jump in. She is always using her phone so I figured it would be nice to make her experience more enjoyable. Thanks in advance!
Edit:
There wouldn't be something as beast as the Decks reloaded ROM on the Evo would there? That is essentially what I would like to flash for her. Something ridiculously stable that has all the tweaks that I would need to add in. If not just let me know what the most stable rom is and what tweaks I should include as I flash for the lady.
for a good overview of available roms, kernels, radios, tweaks, and s-off guides you might start here
I think you're going to have to use the tacoroot method. that's what I did and I had the most current verizon updates. I just flashed chilly beans pd rom last night and it seems great. incredibly paranoid android I hope that helps
I love paranood but all the tweaks may overwhelm her. Dkstunnas global cm9 ROM has everything working and is fast, viper ROM is the best sense ROM in my opinion, and I also love gingerbread miui. Tazz patriot and macrodroid also have a nice sense 3.6 ROM named Arctic ascension, which is a little faster than venom but maybe less visually awe inspiring, I also made a descended version of that ROM but it is extremely stripped down (made for speed). All the ROMs I mentioned are completely functional and stable, except paranoid, which the newest version doesn't have a working front facing camera, but watch it, I'm sure chilly will get it worked out, he's a good dev, hope I've given you a small idea of what some of my picks are like...

Are you doing this for her or for you? Does she want it rooted? If not, leave it be. If she is happy with it then adhere to the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" line if thinking. If she does want it rooted, which type of rom does she want? Does she like sense and prefer not to have to learn her way around a new type of os? If so, skyraider Zeus is really good. Also, nits has some good gb sense roms. If she wants to try something new cm7 is fast and stable. As Jeremy said, gingerbread miui is great, just be careful with themes. Always backup before changing themes as some of them will lock your phone up and force you to restore a back up. It isn't common but I found several that did it. If she wants everything working with no bugs or random restarts, stay away from ics/jb at least until (if) we get source. If she is daring and can work through those issues without freaking out, the ones Jeremy mentioned are sweet. Pacman is one of my favorite roms ever, I just had some bugs that pushed me away for now. And they may be more phone related than rom. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone. From my browsing of this forum i think I will just let her pick between skyraider zeus, team venom, magnolia and Gingerbread miui.
I believe these roms to have a good balance from my quick skimming.

For OP, concur with what others above already said ... search for both speed & stability involved compromises in balancing out on a rooted custom ROM since you are on XDA searching ...
1. There are 2 stock Sense Rom based on VZW's OTA releases, one by AndyBones with additional tweaks/add-ons and a newer one by CS, stripped of bloatware (she isn't going to mess with NFL or CityKids ID, yada yada) Put TB on it and update Play Store, etc. and once it's done updating the Apps, you are good to go - both maintained full GSM functionality and if you get it unlocked officially by Big Red, you can truely made it a global phone, insert a local prepaid Sim card & have inexpensive voice calling rates everywhere instead of using its partner's Vodafone Sim.
2. Next up is the Nit's Stock Sense v5.0.m-ext4, that's highly finished & polished, everything works with numerous options and it is equal to SkyRaider's Zeus v1.3 rom, both can be overclocked for speed in trading off some battery life - still going to give you a full 20 to 30 hours day of heavy use depending on Apps running, and in the case of DW's identical DI2 running SR Zeus, typically 3+ full days of standby with minimal voice calling/SMS and little or no 3G/WiFi browsing. Installed SRZ on her's since it was released 15 months ago and trouble-free, never froze and zero maintenance. I run between Stock Sense v5 and SRZ and still indecisive, switching every so often - especially when I'm traveling as I use GSM bands for non-US local calling, no re-programming or *#*# codes or menu to cycle thru. I keep copies of CWM's backup on the devices and in cloud storage in case of restoration, but it's been good. Update the kernels and to the newer radios once it's running, and you have a trouble-free device, set-n-forget - switched to a smaller (4 x 1) widget for the clock & weather display on the homescreen and I'm happy.
BTW, I have the newest Google Apps like Currents, Play Book & Play Magazine, etc. running on these Roms - when I don't have my true tablet, the Nexus 7 running JB 4.1.2 with me.
3. CM7's is good, simple & fast and good for changing things, haven't "play" with CM9 global ones lately - apparently most of the issues with camera, bluetooth & minor bugs are smoothly out. Tazz/MD's Sense 3.6 ROM is newer and is functional and refreshing - battery life isn't as good as older GB roms, as I recall. Be prepared for minimal tech support for you loved ones.
4. Nit's masterpiece, Team V's Viper Rom is the newest/hottest and best preview of JB/4.x for the DI2, I like it - TB restore from older GB and other roms might or might not work, depending on the Apps, it's best to do a fresh & clean install after full/deep wipe first. If it wasn't for the exclusive CDMA only or GSM only Rom , set by the initial Aroma installation & somewhat "fair" battery life - I would probably use it as my daily. Once (a big IF) HTC & VZW release kernel sources/codes or rollout ICS updates - serious development will resume as everything is now ported over from other/leaked sources. Paranoid's Rom by Chilly looks good, developer's work with the Nexus 7 set a benchmark that's not easy for others to follow/exceed - I haven't check it out myself but I'm sure it's excellent.
Thanks for the heads up! She has been complaining about how slow her phone seems to be lately so I figured it was a good excuse to root. I didn't see your post until just now, but those rom suggestions seem great! When I did show her a couple of screens she liked the look of MIUI best. Miui variants has been around for a long time - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830675 - I haven't flashed or use one lately since the HTC Eris days, LOL but from the thread posts, it looks good enough for me, if you like it - go for it. Just backup always and if ... just restore or flash a different one, go back-n-forth - trials and errors work for me all the time (well, almost.) Enjoy.
The most stable miui is the gb 1.12.9. I think that is the right number. If you are using clockwork mode go into Rom manager and download it. There are 2, the other is 1.30.9 it something like that. Most people say that one wasn't as stable as the previous build. If you use the gb Rom get Aero's .7 kernel. A lot of people like the ics build but it may have stability issues that someone not wanting to wipe cache or go through fixes would want to deal with.
Maybe it's 1.12.9 and 1.12.30, I don't remember for sure, but you don't want the one with 30 in the number.

I highly recommend Whompasaurus, I've settled on it after trying several others. It gives you stock functionality, and more. Plus, it's easy to tweak and theme to your heart's content. It's fast and very stable and the latest version (4.2) was just rolled out today by the dev.
Another note: The Morphology zip flashes on top of Whomp flawlessly in case you want the additional theme options of that program (You just have to flash the Macks Updater zip first). Definitely check out the screenshots over in the the Android development forum to get a better feel for the various ROMs, but I really have to recommend Whomp. Let me know if you have any questions.
