Hi guys,
ok... I have an HTC desire... originally on Virgin Mobile and now unlocked. I'm an O2 customer...
I have rooted and installed the Leedroid rom... originally at version 1.8b. Everything was fine.... until I had a corruption on the SD card.... which I fixed when I got a second following a couple of days of "mounted read only." A day or so later, I lost connection to the O2 network and have been unable to regain it, despite several ROM (I'm now running Leedroid 1.9) and radio reflashes.
I still have access to wi-fi, gps etc.
I have tested my sim card in another phone (all ok) as well as other sim cards in my phone (doesn't work.) I have also swapped and tried another O2 sim.
The phone detects all the major networks... just won't let me connect.
The error message I get when trying to connect to a network manually is "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"
I've obviously checked that the phone isn't IMEI blocked etc. I've also tried the sim unlock from the fastboot menu, the switching on and off of the radio, airplane mode... lots and lots of stuff.
I really am at my wits end with this issue. I love the desire... but it's obviously of no use to me without the phone element!!!
Can anyone please suggest something to solve this problem???? Could the corruption of the sd card have caused this in some way, despite several rom/radio reflashes since? I really want to stick with the desire, but at the moment I effectively have a £400 brick....
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.....

Firstly this is not a development issue, its a question.....
But anyway, when the phone is telling you that you cannot connect to the network is it allowing you to enter an unlock code at all? Or have you ever "unlocked" the phone in the past?
You're right Lenny... apologies for creating the thread in the wrong part of the forum.... perhaps a mod could move it....
Yes... the phone was unlocked from Virgin mobile prior to me buying it [from ebay.] I didn't perceive this to be an issue, given that I actually had connection to O2 for a day or two before losing it...
No... the phone/sim is not asking for a code when I attempt to connect.
Thanks,
Shep

and did it stop letting you on randomly, or did you do something immediately before?
Nope... completely random. I was in a poor reception area and initially put it down to this... but then it never returned and I'm now back at home having had zero connection for a week.
I think that my repair of the SD card was after I initially lost connection. But as I said, I'm not sure whether the SD card corruption is a red herring.
Call me sceptical, but I doubt you would of been able to check whether it was on the IMEI blacklist or not unless you worked for a phone network.
It's not public knowledge and someone working for O2 shouldn't have told you if it was or wasn't.
Also, even if they did and the IMEI listed on the handset is NOT blacklisted, as was possible with WinMo devices, you may have unintentionally changed the recorded IMEI on the handset to one that IS blacklisted - unlikely though I'll admit.

the sd card should not have anything to do with radio.
Go to dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*
then press phone info
done.... what info do i need to post?

try to go down the bottom and press the "turn radio off" button
then when its turned off try to turn it back on, then see what happens.
Just done it and no changes.
Did it several times between reflashes too... not so much as a flicker...
No idea then, unless the IMEI has been blacklisted.
Ok.... thanks anyway.
Any luck getting this to work? Am in the same situation - t-Mobile unlocked Desire with a 3 SIM?
Edit: I have intermittent reception/connection to 3 now - I did a lot of recovering/trying RUUs which would partially load on Win 7 then just disappear...assume they should have done something more than that. What seems to have helped - and I partially had this problem in my Nokia E65 - was to place a piece of paper (SIM sized) behind the SIM to 'push' it onto the contacts. Well, maybe it was a software issus but it's now my luck paper and I'm not removing it!
Gone again. Very annoying.
RUU'd to RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed (unbranded 2.2) and still no luck.
Any ideas?
Something really weird is going on with my At&t galaxy s3. I'm new to this forum so I'll just explain what I'm experiencing and do my best to work through it will all of you. This phone got rooted by someone else and when I got it, the rooted program was in chinese and was acting all weird and wasn't getting good reception, although it was before it was rooted. I flashed it back to normal and it's acting very curious. It will receive an At&t simcard but the service bars will go from 1 bar to 4g to Edge to 1 bar all in a matter of 20 seconds or so and doesn't seem to work. It will occasionally work to send messages, make calls, but it seems like it can't ever receive calls. I checked and the IMEI number is still the same. Also, I had originally tried to unlock it to another carrier and when I put in different simcards (From other carriers such as verizon) the service bars don't show up, instead, all it shows is a cancel sign and doesn't ask for an activation code or anything. I'm honestly not sure what to do here, I thought I had broken the simcard reader and replaced that, but that made no difference. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Unlock is supposed to be permanent so it's odd that you lost it.
Now as for your problem, a lot of people are getting this issue lately, where unlocking damages their nv file. The solution can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43842387

Thanks for your quick response I have been looking for a long time and never saw this issue before. I'm not sure where I'll be able to find a replacement nv file...but i'll see if anyone I know has a galaxy s3 from at&t. Maybe once I do this the unlock issue won't be messed up anymore.
I have a T-mobile G3 (obviously) that I've had for about a year and recently it has been saying that the sim is either invalid or not installed. This is the same sim card I have been using for a while. Occasionally after several restarts and removals/re-inserts I can get it to work for a bit but then it will to back to invalid sim. Does anyone have any suggestions of what the problem might be or how to fix it? I get both the invalid sim and sim not installed messages.
Is a SIM card from a different carrier installed? Have you tried a new SIM, performed a factory reset, or possibly shimmed the card so it fits tighter in the slot?
Nope. T-mobile sim card and a T-mobile phone...all my previous phones I have rooted or at least unlocked or something. I have done absolutely nothing to modify this one from stock.

did you figured out the problem? It just started happening to me.. super annoying...
Nothing that I tried worked. Ended up deciding it was a hardware issue that wasn't worth trying to fix.... I was thinking of replacing the Sim tray but that's close to impossible on that phone. Ended up just trading it in for a G4

Old topic but the same thing started happening to me this week. At first, it wouldn't happen till I would reboot the phone and it was pop up with the no SIM card symbol and subsequent reboots wouldn't clear it.
EDIT: Tmo D851 with same Tmo SIM card since purchase, on Tmo network this whole time.
Surprisingly, flashing an old backup img would fix the issue for a day or two and upon another reboot, it would be back.
Now this morning, phone was sluggish and locking up, rebooted it and the dreaded symbol was back and no matter which backup img I used, it wouldn't clear. I had thought it was one of the app permissions I had blocked (though none were system apps) and reset all permissions, cleared all caches, thinking it was a software issue. Still wouldn't clear.
I even went so far as to do a complete factory restore via the LG flash tool, right back to out-of-the-box-new, and STILL the no SIM card error was there. Tried rooting and flashing another backup, still there. Add in numerous rinse and repeats of various steps and still there.
Went to T-Mobile and they swapped for a new SIM card and it was still popping up. They did the normal, factory restore from the settings menu, still there.
I was starting to think Tmo was blocking my account due to my data usage (paranoid, I know...) and asked if my account was being blocked or my number and was told nothing listed or said.
Of course, the 1-yr warranty on this phone just ended in September and I'm high and dry with getting this fixed.
Also of note, none of the pins are broken, misshaped, flat or other. I even tried placing a business card piece on top of the SIM card to try and see if it wasn't making contact, still no joy.
The SIM card does work in one of my old Tmo phones, so it's not the account.
Just sucks that this phone is now crippled from such a silly mechanism as such, first time with an error/problem like this with SIM card phones. And I kept this phone in pristine condition, no drops, water, glass protector, etc. And it has never been dropped or other, just started up as such... My wife has the same exact phone and no problems with her's. Yet.
schneiderm3709, did you trade it in at a Tmo store? They took it with the SIM card error or you didn't mention it? Did they take it with the SIM card error at a reduced value? If either, what did you get for it?
Thanks.
Yeah, I determined that it wasn't the sim card either. I'd have no problem putting my sim in another phone, and another sim in my phone would have the same issues.. All the flashing and everything did nothing for me. I also tried a piece of paper on top of the sim card when I slid it in to help it make better contact. This worked for a little while but eventually didn't do anything. My hypothesis is that one of the pins was going bad/had a crack, and when the sim card was installed it would lose contact, and when you took it out it would pop back up to where it's supposed to be, so you couldn't see the problem without microscopic inspection.
I told T-mobile exactly what was happening with mine, and they tried all the same things they tried with you, also still to no avail. Their requirements for trade in are very simple actually, 1: NO Water Damage, 2: NO Screen Damage (General wear scratches are okay), and 3: The device turns on. Mine did all of this, just wouldn't connect to the network. They gave me $100 credit towards the new G4. I Love it and don't know if I'd ever be able to leave LG world....Unless maybe the droid turbo somehow comes over to T-Mobile. I don't know if that trade in value has changed now since the LG V10 came out or not. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have the same problem too! Really frustrating, I've tried everything and I cannot pinpoint the problem.
I found the following solution by stevenpurwadipura on Reddit
Guys, i found a fix for this. I just figured out this trick, so i don't know if this is a real fix or just a luck. Go to settings - apps - choose option - configure apps - modify system settings - choose option - show system - select NETWORK - change it into 'No'. Then restart your phone.
I restart my phone and it detects my SIM again. But as I said, I'm not too sure if this is really a fix or just a luck.

Invalid Sim Card error in LG G3 tmobile
Hi.. I'm getting the invalid sim card error after restarting my Lg g3. The sim card works fine on my husbands phone.. so guess its same issue as yours. Did you have a valid warranty when you got the 100$ credit from Tmobile for Lg G4?

Invalid Sim
I too have the same problem for sim 2 in my LG G3 D858HK. Factory data resetting did not solved the problem. I do not know what is the reason, But now i could solve it by resetting network settings. Software version - Android 6, D858HK 30b, In back up and restore there is an option to reset network settings. Done this for sim 1 and sim 2. Problem solved.
i am having this invalid sim problem after upgrade to 30e;
I found a fix for this. i don't know if this is a real fix but just flipping from yes to no and vice versa followed by reboot seems to work consistently.
i copied it. credit should go to the original poster
Go to settings - apps - choose option - configure apps - modify system settings - choose option - show system - select NETWORK - change it into 'No' or vice versa (from no to yes). Then restart your phone.

Same thing happening to me. I took it to a t-mobile store and they said the network upgraded and some phones are now obsolete because of it. Also, because they don't have contracts anymore, I cant get any deals on a new phone even though they didn't warn me that my phone would stop working.
Hello everyone,
First of all thanks to all who had solutions. All worked temporarily. I have a stock TMO D851 30G with the stock MM 6.0 TMO ROM. It has worked awesome for the past three years I have had it. I have it unlocked via IMEI and no root....yet. I started having this issue about a 4 months ago. I sent the phone to LG and the "techs" there checked the phone and found no issues. Still having the same issue. However, I found that if I restart in safe mode it acknowledges the SIM and works fine. Use it in safe for about 30 minutes and restart. I get my network back. I am stuck. I figure there is something in the firmware or ROM that is causing a conflict. Any ideas???? I am completely fed up and out of ideas
Sent from my LGE LG-D851 using XDA Labs
Update to this problem. It is actually a hardware issue. However it does not have to do with the sim Tray at all. It is due to a bad connection on the processor. Took mine to a repair shop here in my town in mexico. He did a reball on it (flux and reheat of the processor) this was two weeks ago and it has completely fixed the issue. Hope this helps the group out. Thanking all of you that threw in your two cents. It was all helpful
Hi everybody! Long time reader, first time poster. Just this morning I updated my phone with the June update. Nothing special, have had my phone since January and had monthly updates. However, with this particular update I hit a snag. I got home from work, proceeded to let it update while I slept. I woke up and was greeted with a emergency calls only service. Couldn't dial or text out. So I rebooted the phone only for it this time to say, no Sim detected despite the fact that I've never once removed the Sim. I think the update messed something up. Or I have a faulty Sim card? Or reader? Any ideas or has any body had something similar to then happen? Is this even the right place to be asking this? I'm fine with buying a new Sim card, I just don't want to of I can help it. Thanks in advance!!

Probably coincidence your SIM went bad. Emergency calls only is what I used to get when I was just testing the 5x with no SIM inserted.
Just try with another friend's sim (same carrier if course) and verify it.
Works=>change your sim
Does not work=> warranty to chabge your device.

Has anyone else encountered this? I have the UK version (it supports all att bands). It randomly stops detecting the sim card, and I have to eject it and reinsert it for it to detect it again.
sounds like an issue with the phone man... Mine has been flawless. if i were u i would return it... or at least try a new sim card.
I tried changing the APN settings to see if that makes a difference at all

I second this. Sometimes you just get a faulty device. Just exchange it for a new one.
have you checked the SIM card, make sure its clean? Seated correctly? You can clean the contacts carefully with alcohol wipes
