International One X in U.S. on Straight Talk = super cheap plan ? - HTC One X

My Wife and I are currently on Verizon, we both have the Galaxy Nexus, but the monthly bill is not cheap, w/tax is about $220 per month for both phone full unlimited plan. Looking to get into a cheaper carrier, but not just ATT or Sprint, etc...which will save a bit, but not a ton, but have heard about some no name brand carriers that are extremely cheaper, like this Straight Talk.
Some nice member on the Android Central Forums, said he had to buy the international One X online for full retail price of like $600 or so, but that he has it activated on this Straight Talk plan, which is only $45 per month for unlimited minutes and unlimited data.
Has anyone here done this, and how does it work ? I mean $45 per month for full unlimited is shockingly cheap, whats the catch ? Why aren't more people in the U.S. doing this ? If it's too good to be true, usually means there is something up, what am I missing here ?

AFAIK, the only catch is you can't even touch 2gb of data in a month. Don't know what their threshold is, as the threads I've seen, the op's couldn't get that out of them and got banned from the network with only using 2-2.5gb of data a month.

Well my data usage is pretty small, if I am watching you tube or movies it is 90% on Wifi at home or office, and when outside doing sales, I need phone for calls...texts...e-mails reading PDF's etc...navigation...
My Nexus the four months I have had it, has never once been over 2gb, I have the 4gb plan.

i have the one x on ST run super well

Yeah I'm going to buy the One X and put it on Straight Talk unlimited. Straight Talk is affiliated with AT&T, Verizon, and Tmobile. Most people say it's recommended to not push 2gb a month, while others said they were going past it no issues. Just don't start downloading large files, stream movies, or tether too much.
I think the plan for you and your wife would be perfect and your not going to be stuck on a 2 year contract.

So please walk this newb threw this please. I buy the One X from here ? Is this the correct model I would need to work on Straight Talk ?
http://www.expansys-usa.com/htc-one-x-android-smartphone-polar-white-unlocked-229903/
For Straight Talk I am confused with which option to choose ? The "unlocked" or "ATT" compatible phone ?
http://www.straighttalk.com/ShopSims
And then which SIM ? The smaller one they say for newer phones like the iPhone4, or the larger SIM ?
And then back to plans, it would be $45 unlimited for each phone ? So for a phone plan for my Wife and I would be $90 per month ?
Last question would be about roaming ? I am in Chicago, and travel the local suburbs, rarely going beyond that. So it looks like the Chicago land is well covered under Straight Talk ? But what happens if I go into a non Straight Talk area ? Does it just drop service, and no network, or does it piggy back on to a main carrier ? And if it does piggyback do I get raped on high charges ?

Yes that model will work for Straight Talk. It lists under Straight Talk's website that the phone must operate on 850/1900 Mhz bands which it does. You choose the unlocked option since this is not a AT&t variant of the HTC One X. Then you choose micro sim: the top of the phone is where the micro sim goes. $90 for both of you on unlimited is correct, however the first month you're buying the sim card with the unlimited plan will be $120 for both of you.
They do allow free voice + sms roaming for free, but the web they don't allow (terms & conditions). I'm not entirely sure, but if they do they do it wouldn't be a lot of allowance. If you do overuse web roaming, they will notify you and cancel your service if it continues.

That's some very good single/2-line cost. It'd be nice if they come up with family unlimited plans.

Thank-you, everyone for the advice so far much appreciated.
So the big question would be coverage for my area. I live in Chicago and according their map, it looks like whole area is blanketed in coverage, but I have no idea how accurate that truly is ? And is service 3G only ? No HSPA+ ?

If you live in an area where they have 1900mhz bands (4g) then your phone will take full advantage of that. Since you're telling me it's blanketed in coverage, then there's a good chance that you'll be one of the luckier ones with 4g on simple talk.

I been using Straight Talk in SoCal for about a week now and have been pretty happy with the service. Selecting "Unlocked Phone" gives you the AT&T compatible SIM by default. I get on average 3Mbs down and 1.5Mbs up, less at commute times, but I think on par with most direct AT&T subscribers here. FYI, I had connection problems when I entered the proxy specified on their setup instructions. If you have long connection initialization times, or SpeedTest repeatedly fails, try leaving the Proxy field in APN setting blank.

raster, how is the One X on straight talk ? great deal ?

Be careful with Straight Talk...I've been trying to get my international HTC One X to work with their SIM card and it has now been over 3 weeks, 3 SIM cards, and over 8 hours with a stupid customer service reps that repeats "One moment sir, I'm checking my system" every 10 seconds!!! They are idiots and have no idea what they are doing!
Be warned about Straight Talk!!! I'm almost tempted to go to ATT just too be done with this because Edge on TMO USA is unbearable!
Damn it! The things I am going through just for this damn phone!!!
~rant over...
Again...I HIGHLY DO NOT (repeat DO NOT) RECOMMEND STRAIGHT TALK!!!!

it works fine for me. although i didnt know i was giving up navigation. i will have to call their customer service for directions telling them google nav stopped working...for jokes.

I like Straight Talk a lot on my HOX, but I might switch to Tmobile $30 prepaid plan.

[Q] Data plans in the US

I will be touring the US this summer and i'd like to find out which US carrier offers a decent data plan so i could roam the country using google maps & navigation. i would need around 1 or 2 GB dataplan for a month time.
I don't want to buy another phone or make two-year contracts. Anyone knows which carrier i should turn to ? I will traveling in the north east (NY-Mass-Maine-Vermont)
many thanks
The US isn't like Europe when it comes to things like this. You generally can't just go buy a SIM card to use for a short period of time, at least not if you want a data connection. You can get a cheap prepaid phone from AT&T or T-Mobile, remove the SIM card and put it in your phone, but unless things have changed recently, you'll be paying quite a bit for data, depending on how much you use. AT&T and T-Mobile are going to be your only two options when it comes to prepaid GSM here.
AT&T is in the process of buying out T-Mobile right now as well, so probably by the time you are here, you might only have the AT&T option anyway.
AT&T has a prepaid SIM for $2/day (only on days you use it) unlimited talk and text with a data add-on option of 100mb/month for $20. I have one but switch off background data and use wifi whenever I can. I don't know if you can purchase additional 100mb data blocks within the same month. Check out https://www.paygonline.com/websc/index.jsp

AT&t ask for a sim. with a line under no contract, since you will not need equipment. Get a number unlimited minutes and unlimited web and text is 90$ a month and less if you need less.
Go to a corporate owned store and walk out with an activated sim for free. Call 611 and tweak your plan with a Rep.
Now the important part is never tell them you are using a smart phone. Tell them its made in Antarctica or something. If they need an imei make one up, as no company has a list other than their branded equipment.
Also if your staying a while message me and route customer relations for a 25$ credit a month for 3 mos. Its simple. Like butter.
Happy trails.
Need to know if a8181, a8182, or a8183. Or specific umts frq. You are using for 3g speeds. Ex. A8183 is 850mhz and 2100 MHz umts.

[INFO]AT&T Users Beware

Just wanted to give people a heads up on my horror story with AT&T. I don't want anyone else to wind up in my situation. I just received a message stating I had been charged in excess of $100 dollars in data charges and please call AT&T to prevent service disruptions or future charges.
Background: I have had unlimited Data since 2008 because I had an iPhone 3g. In the meantime I've used several Android devices. On the 9th of last month I decided I was ready for a new device. I did some searching and decided to get a Galaxy Note. I used it briefly until the GNex was announced by Google in the US. I decided to buy the GNex as well and return the device I was least satisfied with. After some use, I loved the LTE but decided I preferred the community behind the GNex and the AOSP roms. So on the 7th of this month I returned the Note before my 30 days.
Issue: The drama starts on the 7th. After returning my Note my unlimited data plan was dropped without telling me because I was no longer using an AT&T recognized smartphone. I was careful to ask in store if returning the Note would affect my unlimited data, and the salesperson said it would not. Since I no longer have a data plan, AT&T has been charging me $1 per megabyte. So in two days I have racked up over $250 dollars in data charges. The AT&T reps refuse to reactivate my Unlimited data until I put my SIM in (and presumably keep it in) an AT&T recognized smartphone. I discussed with the rep and she stated that I can use smartphone data on a non-AT&T smartphone if the system recognizes it. The Catch-22 here is that the system only recognizes AT&T sold devices. So now I have to put my SIM back in my old Infuse and contact the Rep again to have them reverse my charges and reactivate my unlimited data. I am now afraid to use the GNex for fear of losing my data again.
tl:dr: AT&T dropped my unlimited data because their system doesn't recognize the GNex as a compatible smartphone. They won't reactivate my data plan until my SIM is in an AT&T recognized smartphone.
Update: I got a better service rep today and she restored my Unlimited data and confirmed that using an unlocked device is allowed, but the combination of returning an AT&T device then picking up an unknown IMEI may be to blame. I got a verbal agreement to reverse the charges, but the rep was unable to do so until a bill with them is generated. So I will call back on my bill date to confirm.
Tell them its BS, as I've used Euro phones on AT&T for years and they never dropped my data.
Also, I've since left AT&T in December for Verizon, the network seems better/more stable, but the nexus has had voice quality issues for 5 months and they've been procrastinating on fixing it. (yay for xda, which has solved most of my issues)

What gets me is that this is clearly a customer service rep that messed me up. I had the SIM in the GNex prior to the 7th when I returned the Note. My data wasn't changed until after I returned the Note.
Also I had an N1 for over a year just after it was released. This never happened then. My suspicion is that I got a bad combo of a stupid rep and AT&T trying to crack down on users with unlimited plans.
I have at&t also. They are a bunch of money grubbing... well...
Here is your solution...
If this is your own line, itll still work, but is cheaper with a family plan.
Step one: Quit buying ATT Branded Phones. This is stupid, you pay more over the course of use. 30 bucks for 3 gigs? fuuuuck that.
Step two: get a IMEI From ANY Other non ATT Phone. Buy a 20 dollar junker off ebay. It HAS TO be a dumb phone. with a WAP Browser.
Step three: register that with ATT, tell them you want the wap data plan for your dumb phone. This is your primary and only phone as far as they are concerned. With a family plan, Unlimited WAP is 10 bucks. On your own, its 15.
Step four: wait a few days for your account to settle, or month, whenever your bill stabilizes. this is important. Dont make any more changes, as you can get hosed on price at this point.
Step five: Buy your GNEX. or Korean Galaxy Note. Or any other non ATT phone.
Step Six: Swap Sim's and setup the APN's if your rom does not come with them.
Step Seven: Enjoy your new unlimited data 10/15 dollar a month data plan on your smart phone.
a important note: Dont show any asshole at ATT your phone. Dont even mention it. Tell them you have a dumb phone. If they ask to do trouble shooting, play along. Dont do that ****. If they press for what phone you have, tell them you have a old ass Nokia. If they say your lying, tell em where to shove it.
I have 5 lines on my family plan. 1400 minutes. Unlimited messaging. Unlimited Data on all lines. 194 a month. And you get the "A list", free calls to any other network phone numbers you specify, up to 10. Needless to say, i hardly use my anytime. The only headache is getting the other idiots to pay me, even though its 38 bucks a person... peices of ****.
Have fun, dont be dumb with the ATT Reps. Make no mistake, No matter how smart you are, Stupidity will ALWAYS outsmart you.
I've never had this issue before. So what I assume happened is that the Rep cleared my IMEI on my account rather than reverting it to the one that was there before the Note.
I never had an issue when using my N1. I've never had an issue when using a dumbphone temporarily (when traveling or something like hiking where I don't want to risk damage) nor when testing my SIM in friend's phones. My guess is all other times AT&T account just used the IMEI on file, not the one it detects. If there is no IMEI on file it probably detects yours and then uses it.
Still, after I talk to the Rep tomorrow and hopefully get this cleared up I am sort of afraid to use my GNex again. I am seriously considering T-Mobile and seeing if I can get them to waive my ETF since I can't use my phone.
Also advise them they it is ILLEGAL for them to change your plan without your consent. They will correct the billing error and fix it for you. (My friend had a 6000 dollar bill for the same reason, they ate the bill as they should)
Just one of the many reasons I left AT&T 3 years ago and went to T-Mobile.
If you follow what i told you to do, you'll be a much happier ATT user... LOL
Forget the current IMEI on file. it does not matter. you need to update it to one that ATT does not have in thier database.
Trust me on this. Im a internet professional.

Well they need to have one on file. You simply had them add the dumbphone as their IMEI on file so that when you swapped your SIM you kept that data plan.
They tell me that IMEI is unrecgonized as well. Because of that they dropped my smartphone unlimited plan. I am not trying to go to the the $15 dumbphone plan because I want to be able to keep my unlimited data if I ever choose to go LTE. 5Gb of LTE for $30 before throttling is pretty amazing.

8 bucks a GB for false 4G? Yeah.....
The issue started when you purchased an at&t Mobility branded Galaxy Note, that IMEI became associated with your account and the DATA plan became associated to that IMEI (this is the key).
If you had simply removed the SIM from the Galaxy Note (and NOT RETURNED IT), placed it into your GNex there would not have been any issues as at&t's network could care less as you had a DATA plan and the GNex comes back as unknown to at&t's internal IMEI database.
It was the act of returning the device (which you have every right to do and I would have done the same) and not replacing it with another branded device that caused your DATA plan to fall off your account. Essentially, when you returned your NOTE, the computer saw the device removed from your account and since another device was not added to your account, the system dumped your DATA plan because nothing was re-attached to the account. If the GNex was recognized internally by at&t's systems and that IMEI was associated as a smartphone on your account, your DATA plan would have been preserved.
I had a similar issue and it took a bunch of labor on my part to fix the issue including speaking with an Engineer at at&t Mobility who had to work within the system to re-add my DATA plan without attaching an at&t Mobility branded device.
Eventually he was able to get things corrected as best I understand it, he had to find my device in the "global database" and then pull it into at&t's internal database and code it as a smartphone so that the system would re-attach my DATA plan. However, he said that some non-carrier branded smartphones do show up in at&t's internal database, but it is up to a certain department to add them and apparently that department selectively chooses devices.
I am not sure what to say, I have the luxury of working for an employer who has a personal at&t Mobility Corp Sales Rep who we can call when things go pear shaped and whose general job is to ensure that we are happy with at&t. When I had my DATA plan disappear she cut through the red tape and got me in contact with correct people to fix the issue.
I had tried to deal with normal CS at first and that was totally useless, not that I am surprised, normal CS is only capable of dealing with a certain select issues, not back end engineering which requires a different skill set and an understanding of how the system functions as a whole (this generally requires somebody with a specialized degree) to fix more complicated tasks.

GSM standards allow any GSM device on any GSM network. End of story.

At&t sucks! I'll pay any other carrier double before I ever send At&t a check again. You can get those fees waved, you just have to talk to the right person. If you get someone stuck on no just hang up and call back. If its easier on you to put your sim in your other phone and then swap it back to the GN after your data plan is restored than you should do that.
Its easier to call retentions. If they can't fix it, they'll find somebody who can. Usually.
let it be.

This is false information. AT&T LTE exists and is very real. HSPA+ and LTE are very different on AT&T. With my Infuse and GNex (and the Note when not in LTE) I get about 5-7Mbps. My area has LTE and when in LTE coverage on the Note I was regularly getting 35Mbps or higher. My highest speed was 52Mbps.
Also comparing the cost of storage on an SSD to the cost of internet bandwidth is a nonsense comparison. Solid state storage should always be cheaper than data transfer. Why didn't you compare a 500Gb platter? That should run you about $0.10 per gigabyte. And you've missed the mark on the AT&T pricing we are discussing. The LTE unlimited still costs $30 and throttles at 5Gb. So that is actually $6 per Gb unthrottled. Try comparing it to home internet providers maybe.

I chose a SSD simply because the platter device is cheaper, for one. two, Lets compare a strictly home based internet data plan, to price per GB on ATT. Lets go with Comcast XFINITY since their similar in throttling and whatnot.

15.964508 TB in a month...(just for scale)
Total cost per GB of home internet provided you are fully maxed out and no throttling....
0.0069622572370832 cents per GB.
Compared to ATT's...
$8 dollars per GB?!?! (op's 5BG)
But... lets not forget operating costs, upgrade fees, costs of network towers... and all that expensive throttling equipment. needs to be payed for somehow, right?
dont forget how much the CEO's Pockets cost!
Also, in reality, you cant compare HD's or Home internet... they are not the same technology....

None of that means anything with no price.
I'm curious as I have almost exactly the same plan on Bell right now, with a few other added goodies but less data (still way more than I use though)

Its 60$. I read Bell and virgin followed up with their own 6gb plans here's a link with the bell/virgin info.
http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/07/18/virgin-rolls-out-new-6gb-60month-plan/
I'm lucky with bell. I have a plan for a few years I upgrade from a normal cellphone e an to a smart phone. My old plan had unlimited internet. I have the 6 gb plan right now. But they forgot to take my other unlimited plan. So I have basically a unlimited data plan including tethering. I thanks bell

does it have caller ID?
I have a standard 200min+unlimited incoming calls+6gb+unlimited text +5pm evenings and weekends for the same price (60).
So it's basically my10 vs free incoming.
Why even bother with Rogers?
For 21$ more with fido I have
UNLIMITED incoming outgoing 24/7 35$
UNLIMITED across canada 24/7 I could be in any city and call any city in Canada for FREE 0$
UNLIMITED calling to the united states 24/7 from any city in canada but not the other way around 15$
UNLIMITED sms
UNLIMITED mms
6 GIGS of data 30$
Call diplay
Call forwarding and what have you
BILLED BY THE SECOND (not that it matters)
Unless you have an Lte handset I don't know why you're messing with rogers
and Unless you live behind gods back or in a bunker there's no reason to mess with Bell or Telus
Just buy the handset you want unlock it Flash whatever you want on it and come into the light.
This is awesome timing my contract is just ending with fido.
(Leaving them due to horrible customer service plus they are dropping per second billing) and Now Rogers will be bringing LTE to my area.
I just bought an Unlocked Galaxy Nexus. Usually when you sign up for a new contract you get to subsidize a phone but considering what is on the market right now I'd rather save the subsidy for a later date (2013).
Does any one know if this is possible or does it require a new 3 year commitment?
Is this plan only available on a 3year contract?

Why the hell would billing by the second matter if everything is UNLIMITED?
You're getting LTE with rogers but you have a galaxy nexus with no LTE I presume
you should should stay with fido after your contract is done get the best deal you can when your contract is over they have to keep charging you the same thing. In a year or so when LTE is implemented in your area and you find an LTE phone worth dropping the gnex for then and only then Jump ship by all means. Don't worry about the deal still being around something better will come along.:good:

I'm with Bell because Rogers reps repeatedly lied to me just to get me off the phone. And by repeatedly I mean a solid 3 months of bull****, costing me lots of money that I never got back, and time I really could have spent more productive. Eventually I bailed and refused to go back to that sadistic company. Fido being owned by Rogers can go f*** themselves as well. Also they screwed my younger brother out of his $200 deposit, which leads me to believe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Virgin has also come out with a 6GB plan.
300
Anytime Minutes
UNLIMITED
Weekends & Early Evenings from 5pm
6 GB
Data Usage
Additional data is only $10/GB
limited time offer
UNLIMITED
Canada, U.S., & International Text and Pic Messaging from Canada
UNLIMITED
Incoming Calls
The only thing missing is Canada wide Calling even if it was for My5 or whatever i was always getting dinged a few bux for calling some one just outside the city...
IMO the ways traffic is networked nowdays there really isnt and such thing as long distance anymore.. No switch boards to patch you through to another carriers telephone lines. Its just a cash grab.
Rogers had this deal before also, I was able to get mine for 50/month. 6GB is hard to fill up though so its a good deal.
I jumped on this.
I hate Rogers, but I'm stuck with them due to contract and I have come to the conclusion that all the providers suck.
But this plan was IDENTICAL to the plan I was already on with the exception of the data limit. I was on a 1GB plan. So now I am bumped up to 6GB along with everything else.
I also got a value pack which includes Call display, some additional minutes and txts (which are useless since its unlimited incoming and outgoing anyway), call forwarding, enhanced voice mail, ringbacks, and something else. I have a credit for all the value packs so I don't actually pay for them.
So all that for $60 I am pretty happy.
Btw, even though the GNex is not LTE you can still get it. I was on a 3G plan and the rep told me (we will see for sure) that this plan will update me to 4G connection speeds. So if you were like me and still on 3G plan this is definitely worth it imo.
--- Now I am just keeping my fingers crossed that the rep didn't lie to me and everything is as he claimed it would be. Been screwed in the past so I had him repeat everything to me twice haha

The GNex isn't capable of LTE so no matter what you will not be able to get LTE speeds. The radio chip in the phone doesn't support it in Canada. If that's what your wondering?
*Edit* - And technically the GNex is 21Mbps which is classified as 4GHSPA so you already have 4G. 3G or 'Edge' on Rogers is anything below 14Mbps. LTE is anything above 42Mbps.

I know that the gnex isn't compatible with LTE. But should work the 4G no?
I get so bloody confused by all the different networks now
Hmm well it will be interesting to see if there is any difference. Even if there isn't I'm still happy to have the 6gb. Thanks for clearing that up.

you know, I'm with fido and i'm paying 33.90 a month for unlimited incoming calls, unlimited local and international texts, unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 7pm and i get 200 mins per month.
Sometimes I feel like I'm getting ripped off but in the end; that's what it was then and no other company was better then.
NOW I've been looking at different carrier contract because my girlfriend is due for a renewal soon and rogers definately has the best plans for the best prices. ALSO they have the best reception in the city. You can be in a basement and it'll work; with BELL forget about it, you wont even get reception on the top room of your house.
Personally, I think you guys are crazy to pay so much money just to have portable internet. I use straight up wi-fi at home and thats itttt. I am in no need for data. But everyone has different uses for it i guess

I live in a basement apartment in Thornhill and my reception is horrible. You'd swear the walls were pure lead. I have to put my phone on the Window sill just to get two bars which are sketchy at best.
Having data is nice, special when your in a pinch and your lost or something. Good for work as well.
But like you said everyone is different

Mobilicity > big 3
Brb getting unlimited talk text and data for $23 (you can't get this plan anymore)
But you could still get all this for like $35
Oh also Mobilicity is increasing their network speed this year and expanding like crazy, you all should switch to a carrier that doesn't rip you off and lock you in contracts

Why waiting Note II USA Version?

Hi, sorry i just want to know why a lot people like Note 2 US version? And they're waiting AT&T or T-Mobile version. So they want to sacrifice high money monthly bill to get LTE? Or something else? I'm apologize i dont mean to offend you guys, i just recommend using STRAIGHT TALK, it works because StraightTalk using AT&T network. Right now i'm using Note 1 with Straight Talk. Only $45 per month (clear without any taxes, by OnLine payment). If you buy 6 month/1 year package will be cheaper(total each month). Remember Straight Talk is NOT LTE/4G, but for me as long we can play smoothly HQ high quality YouTube then that's will be enough. So you guys can save money, instead HIGH monthly bill from AT&T. So we may get Note 2 International version using Straight Talk. Sorry my English is not perfectly. Peace out, dude.
There are a few reasons:
1) straight talk coverage isn't nearly as large as the coverage of AT&T
2) You don't want the AT&T network. There are plenty of areas where service X is better than AT&T.
I happen to live in an AT&T dead zone. And the international network basically only works on AT&T (unless you give up 3g for t-mobile)
3) Some people do do a lot of streaming and want LTE
4) AT&T doesn't give you a discount on plans if you are off contract,
So if you are going to be on AT&T anyway, you might as well have them help pay for the phone.
5) If you want repair/warranty work, it's much less hassle to buy it in a local store.
6) Local stores may let you try out a phone for 30 days, if you aren't sure.
7) Many people don't even know about straight talk
T-mobile has pay as you go plans which are cheaper than on-contract plans. Unfortunately the international note doesn't work on those plans.
If I didn't live in a dead zone, I would do simply mobile for sure. But I do, so I'm going to buy the t-mobile phone (in full),
and get the cheap monthly 4g plan. It's my cheapest option by far.
- Frank
I'm waiting for the T-Mobile version because from what I've read it is in the international version. I guess we'll have more details once the phones are actually out there.
LOL, I alone pay $35 a month on AT&T under a family plan. Which only includes the stupid 2GB Data allowance and unlimited text. With very little shared minutes (I don't talk to much unless the recipient is on AT&T and or on a mobile phone. And weekends is free on voice.).

I am thinking of going to straight Talk myself. So I was going to buy a gsm phone and buy there sim card. I guess I am confused on which version of the note 2 I should get it know at&tt just opened new 4G in my area but I am sick of contracts and high prices. I am willing to pay 4-5 hundred usd and still save money over a two year period.
So does the note2 international version get released before the USA version?

I have too for now.
I am on Verizons network
and dont pull in a whole lot of change monthly,so its a wait for me for bigred to announce,I figure monday or tuesday they will, they had to wait till apple got the opening sales out of the way,..
I'm on Sprint SERO-P plan. $50+tax a month for 500mins, unlimited text, data(3g &4g), night&weekend, data roaming. Sure I will get suck with another 2years contract but I'm not sure if there is a better plan?

Use without Sim Card

Alright....I'm sold on this phone......It will be my new phone.
I'm currently finishing out my contract on Verizon (ugh, moving on). In the meantime, I'd like to purchase this one NOW just to get everything setup. I want to flash/tinker/optimize it to my liking. Will I run into any issues doing this with no Sim Card in the phone? Once my contract finishes out, I'll leave Verizon and pop a sim card from somewhere else (maybe T-Mobile).

No, you will not have any problem at all. Just connect to wifi during initial setup! Congrats for finally leaving VZN, glad I did. Who all are you considering. Right now I am using Straight Talk with AT&T's GSM sim; unlimited talk text, and 5 gigs of data (after that 2g) for 45$/month. I can up it to 10 gigs for just 55$/month. Data speeds are insane like 80MBPS down. Service has been great just seeing if there is any other prepaid or contract plans to consider.

Yeah it really is a great deal from ST. I currently live in Northern VA in the suburbs outside of Washington, DC. Using the AT&T GSM sim your data is not throttled until you reach either the 5gig or 10gig mark according to your plan. ST also has SIMS for VZN (won't work with this phone, and DL speeds are capped at 5mbps), T-Mobile not sure if the speeds are capped, since we have the second sim tray I am going to throw a T-Mobile sim in it. These are no contract plans however you can setup autopay and get a discount. Most of us buy our phones unlocked or off contract now a days anyways so we are getting the same phones and coverage for a discount.
As a long time Verizon customer, then Fi for a year, I have seen no issues with Straight Talk with AT&T.

Always nice to meet a local XDA-er and android enthusiast. I picked up one from WalMart because I couldn't wait after I got my 1+. However the one at WalMart was ~$69.99. It came with Verizon sim cards, ATT sim cards, T-Mobile sim cards and a month of 45$ service. If you just ordered your OP3 i'd say just order your sim online its like 99 cents I think and you have some time to wait .
Any chance you were able to pick up a Dash Car Charger with your order? Still showing as out of stock for our area

As far as I know the service won't be activated until you choose to do so. I mean it's either $55 now or $55 a month from now lol.
tmobile next month is $70 unlimited data with higher data speeds, if you want a lil faster dl speeds i would check that out plus look at the maps for the area you live in and hangout in.
