[Q] Capacitive buttons ever so slightly dim? - HTC One X

Hi,
I've just got my One X and it's fantastic.
I've noticed that the capacitive buttons at the bottom are perhaps a little bit dim... in pictures they look solid bright white but mine have an almost purple sort of tint to them and don't seem incredibly bright.
I've got a Sensation too and I'd say that looks about the same as well.
I've just taken a picture of it and in that they appear solid white as well so I think there's a good chance they all look like this.
Anyone else noticed this? I think I'm just being fussy.

My light up. Good enough. I've never reflected over the brightness though. Just that they light up good enough for me to see em. But yes. Mine are a little "purpleish" aswell.

It's a little blue-ish indeed and they don't light up that much unless in a pretty dark space. I think this was mainly to not make them distractive.

Indeed, this is what I thought as the Sensation is exactly the same.
Cheers guys!

so interestingly enough, 2/3 of my capasitive buttons are working flawlessly, in terms of brightness. The multitask button (far right) is only lit at the bottom of the left corner of the bigger square.
This is why I wish the One Series (maybe minus the One V) all used SoftKeys like the GNexus

Yes I agree. It's pretty much the only niggle I have with my phone all icons are fully lit have a bluish tint and seem slightly dull

Replacement HTC Desire has a washed out screen :(

The phone also feels tangibly heavier.
Think it may be a Super LCD screen rather than AMOLED (how can I check?). Overall, the screen just looks grey. I want my old AMOLED one back?!
Some things to try:
- look at the screen through a circular polarisation filter, eg. RealD glasses (no idea if this works with SLCD...)
- set brightness to maximum and display a black image in a dark room
- look really closely at the screen with a magnifier (or someone with good eyesight) to see if it's Pentile (I guess an LCD screen could be Pentile too...)
- weigh the phone on some good scales to see if it really is any heavier
I've weighed it - and it's just a bit higher than 135 grams. Even though it matches the spec listed on HTC's website, I still think my previous phone was lighter. Now to test the AMOLED screen. Hmm..

the backlight is apparent then. when i switch the phone off, it goes completely black, otherwise it's a grey colour. does that mean it is not AMOLED?
It certainly sounds like that may be the case
Would you be able to post pictures? This is bad news for anyone wanting a replacement. AMOLED was a big selling point for me.
However,
Can you read it in daylight outdoors?

If it's LCD, can I have your Desire then? I hate the Pen-Tile pixel layout...
Seems the black wallpaper in the dark test isn't a valid avenue to test if it's AMOLED (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725656).
Think it may be either me just imagining things - or a defective AMOLED screen.
I'm sending my Desire for repair as I have dust under my screen, I contacted HTC support worried if I may get an LCD screen and they asured me they are currently still using AMOLED displays only
tell me if my screen looks washed out to you. I'm sure my last desire, the colours were a lot more vivid.
Can't really tell if it looks washed out in a photo with nothing to compare it to, but it's definitely a Pentile matrix...
Yes, definitely Pentile. Damn.
Well to me it looks ok and very much the same as mine. I have never returned my Desire to be fixed.
My colors are very vibrant and i can see the screen on daylight (using auto-brightness).
I have noticed one thing on your photos though: your Internet icon is different from mine. Yours seems an older icon, really washed out, being gray and having the home icon. Mine looks more recent, it's a earth icon in blue (same blue as the mail or message icons) with some orbits rotating around the world...
Could this be it?

The internet icon i think is Orange's reworking (notice the orange door to the house).
I just wanted to mention, I 've had 5x different Desires and some have had a more vibrant screen to others.
Through the range of brightness from minimal to maximum I've definitely been able to see that some of the handsets are bright but seem to have very slightly less clarity, whilst others have a sharper image but loose some vividness.
I prefer the brighter / more colourful one I have now.

5 Desires. I've been through 3 so far. The first two were very similar (although the second one for some reason just felt so much lighter). This one is washed out. Going to try and phone Orange and try and see if I can have another one sent. :/

[Q] Does ANYTHING near-black look purple on your gnex at ANY brightness?

Some people are saying that my purple screen issues documented here:

So I am on my second Galaxy Nexus, and I'm on my way to a third tomorrow.
My first one was absolutely awful, with blacks looking bright purple (Phone 1: http://i.imgur.com/2bjUZ.jpg ) and now OTHER elements looking purple (Phone 2: http://i.imgur.com/1EI0V.jpg ). That's not all. My first one was somewhat free of screen banding, but this one is riddled with it in every menu: http://i.imgur.com/j2oxB.jpg
How common are these issues? I'm getting kinda fed up here.

Are nothing more than standard AMOLED behaviour. They are saying that terrible colors like I am experiencing are normal if the phone is dim.
Is this true? Does anyone have ANY color issues at ANY brightness?
Well... I don't have ANY issues at ANY brightness fyi.

Good to know there are some phones out there that look great all the time
I'm not leaving the store tomorrow until I am certain the screen is perfect!
When you look at the phone in the store tomorrow, and you go to settings, don't get scared away by what appears to be "banding" in the background image. It' just a poor quality image google has chosen to use as the background. See?

Wow, why the hell would they use that AWFUL image?
Tomorrow I'll mostly just be looking for purple colors on low brightness.
EDIT: Here's a new picture showing that the screen is still purple http://i.imgur.com/uaRwP.jpg
Wauw that looks bad. I'm currently struggling with a grainy (gray) screen, but looking at other nexuses that seems normal. On light i can however see darker spots and lines on black screens (including boots and black images) but seeing other topics crawled with the same issue I don't put much trust in a device without it...

Oddly enough, neither of my Nexus' have had the grainy screen problem, just this discoloration
I received my 2nd Nexus today after the firsts' volume buttons stopped working. The new one has purple where black used to be, like yours, but doesn't make the experience any worse. However, when I pull the notifications area down on low brightness, the screen dims further - does this happen on yours? It's quite annoying...
Mine is okay. Not perfect but okay. There is still a little bit of purple (not that extreme like uours) but after a few days you barely notice it

on low brightness the notification tray is almost an opaque black
Same here but top bar gets even darker when notifications area is pulled down, even when brightness is set to 0. Whites are a LOT better tho.
Edit: just noticed that when taking photos, the brightness of whats being photographed affects the screens brightness. Also, top half of pages on tapatalk are a lot brighter than the bottom halves, it's strange and quite annoying once you notice it...

"Yellow" screen has much better viewing angles and colors

Just picked up an AT&T one x and I've owned an international one x for about a month. Immediately I noticed the colors were warmer/more yellow on the AT&T one x. Side by side, it almost makes the international one x screen look like super amoled on the whites (way too blue).
I put them at the same brightness, and the AT&T one x has noticeably better viewing angles. WAY better in fact. Also, looking at pictures I took with each phone, the AT&T one x has way more accurate/true to life colors.
Overall the warmer screen is far superior, which makes me wonder why so many people on this forum were worried that they have the yellow screen. Fact is, it's not really yellow, it's just that the other screen is WAY too cool/blue and not accurate at all as far as colors go.
Most people are used to cool (blue) colors on their screens - that's what most LCDs look like until you use a color profile. It's even worse on laptops.
I love my "warm" HOX screen, I'm unhappy just because it has a few yellow spots that don't seem to go away...
I agree and don't know if anyone noticed, the yellow screen has a cleaner pixel grid, you can't see the grid if you look close unlike the colder one
still both r still very impressive so no worries
Does the yellow go away? I've read elsewhere this is the case
Ty
Aj
I have the colder screen and never had any problem with viewing angles
My only complaint is that some yellows are going green
Though the solution is the app called ''screen adjuster'', just boost +5/+7 on red

bro, do you very faint glue "grain" effect when viewing pure white at an angle?
Nope!
Screen adjuster is excellent. I added + 6 to blue levels just to tone down the warmth, now the screen is perfect.
It's not too cool that whites have a blue look but not yellow either.

Anyway to check if mine is the warmer one or cooler one??

[Q] Does your screen look perfect?

Hi!
Does your screen show perfect whites/grays at low/medium brightness?
Here is mine. It's hard to see but there are like bands across the screen, darker than the rest of it. This is really annoying when you are scrolling in webpages with white/gray content.
I've already got replaced one due to similar problem. What about yours?
Far from perfect. When I look at it from a 45° angle, it looks pure white, but any normal people will look at it from a 90° angle and it looks kinda yellowish from that angle. So the screen is NOT perfect by any means, but being said that I'm not changing mine to find a perfect one as I know none exists.

The colour definitely changes when the screen is tilted but that doesn't really bother me. Apart from that it's gorgeous.

HTC One M8 backlight bleeding problem?

I got my HTC One recently (last Friday) and it was a perfect phone! no problems whatsoever...
Yesterday i was playing with the phone with a colourful background wallpaper from HTC and i noticed light bleeding from the top (hold it in a angle and you can see a light bar shine through like this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/at...een-issues-uploadfromtaptalk1367129491252.jpg
It isn't that big of a deal but for a phone that costs over 500 euro's here in my country.. you expect that it is build properly and backlight bleeding on a phone at this price!?
I compared 4 HTC's in the store and they all got the same problem
GPe dims the edges of the screen, so it's harder to notice if it's there. I haven't ran sense in a while so I can't tell either, but I can't notice this light bar effect on my phone either. So it may just be that batch of phones.

Got it in in my bottom right corner... very minimal though
Wow, that's massively anal lol.
mine was the whole top screen.. but it doesn't matter, that's just HTC right..? They're known for the screen bleeding, haha..
I've been having this issue on the bottom of the display. It makes the nav buttons look funny and full-screen content is washed out.

Here's mine. Italian H3g branded:
That light bleed above is probably a bit excessive bit you guys have to realize that all LCD screens are going to have some light bleed. You can usually make it less noticeable by using a lower brightness setting. If you are really anal about the slightest amount of bleed you should really be looking into phones with AMOLED displays. That said, if the light bleed is washing out the nav bar at reasonable brightness settings you should try to get it fixed or replaced.
My M8 has some bleed on the top left corner at normal brightness and I'll notice it across the entire top if I go full brightness in a dark room. At normal brightness it doesn't bother me at all.
