Yeah I don't like 16:9 either, I prefer a much wider screen.

This is running a "1.5ghz dual core." I'm thinking this is a Qualcomm chipset, and Adreno220 with 720p doesn't sound all that great.

I am pretty happy with my GS2 so I think I can hold out for a little bit and still feel like I have a great device even when these next phones come out. Now if I still had an EVO 3D I am not so sure I would feel the same way.
A 4.5" Super Amoled Plus screen will keep me happy for a little while. Not to mention this flys!

This is basically going to be T-Mobiles inferior phone with an upgraded display and NFC. We'll be able to out process them.

This is what the U.S. carriers should have released. Waiting 5 months after the original launch of the Galaxy SII, there were rumors of the U.S. getting a "+" version with spec bumps, well that never happened. This is a slap in the face to the U.S. carriers in my opinion, I mean ATT and T-Mobile have not even released their Galaxy SII's yet, and now there is a better/upgraded version. Not cool

Not coming to the US, unless you are importing it and if you can, it would be extremely expensive

These new phones use the Qualcomm 1.5GHz S3 Snapdragon processors. They are not the Exynos processor! Also, it has been said that the Prime will use Ti's OMAP processor.

Yeah, even if this this is coming to the US....it's going to be like 6 months...same thing happened with our GS2.

They are both ARM processors, these names refer to the integrated "SoC" (System On a Chip).
"Hummingbird", "OMAPx", "Snapdragon", "TegraX", "Exynos", these are all platform names that (roughly) describe the system that is on the chip. (EDIT: The "system" typically consists of the CPU, GPU, memory controller and I/O, with slightly varying versions of each platform possible)
That's the very simplified version of it. OMAP and Snapdragon and Tegra have versions, Hummingbird and Exynos, so far as I understand it, are different versions of Samsung's evolving platform.
So, this generations Samsung platform ("Exynos") is likely outclassed by anything from the next generation...the OMAP platforms also have a really good reputation--and for good reason. Personally, I'm thrilled at the idea of a Samsung built next-gen OMAP Nexus device.

I'm thinking this GS II LTE phone is in fact what the Nexus prime will be and I have to say, that display is damn attractive. I'm so confused. NFC, higher res 4.65 inch screen, Ice cream sandwich and google updates, the ultimate nexus phone that will have high developer activity. That freakin display is may be too nice to pass up.

Is anyone getting the HTC one?

I think that there is a quad core HTC one s coming out for the Tmobile line of phones. Anyone getting it, more undoubtedly there is an gs blaze being released add an addition to the galaxy s series of phones which is a hype looking at how we already have an original s and s2 all this does is make the galaxy s team further.

Do you really want to stay on the samsung boat? Android 5.0 is going to be launched this year, and youll have to wait 4+ months for an update again. When i jump shop, its to a phone with a running non-beta CM9. Its clear this phone has nothing in terms of CM and waiting till summer for ICS is simply pathetic on Samsungs part.

That's what I'm saying. This will probably be my last carrier subsidized phone period. Waiting on Samsung and then waiting on the carrier is a joke. This phone has been a big disappointment. I like the phone, but its like the red headed step child of the galaxy phones. This along with the skyrocket. I stopped waiting on ICS a while ago. Samsung is so hush mouth about updates. Makes you think they will do anything to get you to buy another phone. No thanks Sammy.
When we finally get ICS it will be dated and the next best thing will be out. By then the gsII will be yesterdays news. Google really needs to be more like Apple with updates. They are starting to leave a bad taste for me. This may sound like a rant but its true.

i wouldn't go HTC until they go back to making quality phones. They went downhill lately with crappy battery life and cheap lcd displays. just like how samsung had a slump until the gs2's got released

I'm looking at the Asus Padphone or the SGS3, depending on which one comes out with an AWS or Pentaband version.

Asus has been quite good on updates with their current devices. If they keep that up id consider asus products in the future.
But at this point, im so sick of the android fragmentation that its either gonna be the google phone, or an iphone. Windows phones are starting to look more and more tempting to, specially with Windows 8 coming and whatever integration they have planned.
Even the google phones might get screwed on the CDMA side, and my carrier is CDMA only.
But its become quite clear that they havent finished ICS for the intl GSII, and probably havent started ours even. The CM team has nothing either. Have heard rumors that Cyanogen himself uses a T989 but i really doubt it, cause wed have an alpha at least.

Been using wp7. For the last two 1/2 months and although the apps aren't there yet, its been a refreshing change from all this ICS mess. Once T-Mobile comes out with a 4.3 or higher screen size, I will probably make a full switch.
I miss some of my apps and games though. Then again my ps3 takes care of the gaming issue. Wp7 runs so much smoother. Its nice to take a break from android.

Ya dude, with win8 tablets n all that coming, i think WP8 is my next upgrade when i think about it. MS/Nokia are making some high quality products.

This seems to align with my earlier statements that the GSIII will more likely be a dual-core CPU at 2-2.5Ghz rather than a quad-core at 1-1.5Ghz.

i too would prefer the enhanced dual core over the quadcore at 1.5 each core. Who needs quadcore on their phones when dualcore hasnt even been fully optimized yet, ya they say it helps with battery drain but they said that about dual core as well on the g2x which has extremely terrible battery life.
I still love my g2x for its incredible display and nvidia gpu but this epic touch 4g just pwned it lol

I don't know the intricacies of the architecture, but it's made with (I believe) a 32nm die instead of the 45nm Cortex-A9s, which usually means less power consumption and more performance. There are also new instructions supported by the CPU which allow it to perform tasks more efficiently. Other than that, I don't quite know. But it's smaller and faster. The A15s are going to blow all A9-based chips out of the water. I'm interested to see how the new A15s stand up against the S4 Krait processors from Qualcomm. That thing got 218mflops in Linpack... nearly shat my pants.
If this is real and Sammy puts it in the SGS3 you can bet your sweet ass it's going to be the fastest phone ever made.

I think there are gonna be two variants one a15 dula core 2ghz and other quadcore a9.

Hmmm I don't think this is slated for the GSIII, but rather Samsung's 2013 device lineup. The GSIII is expected to run a quad A9 SoC.

Hey, how about this for something. Maybe there is going to be multiple variations of the SGSIII that will each satisfy the rumors? Just a thought lol

Or how about forget all the rumors and we just wait till Samsung tells the world about it. It might not even really be ready yet.

The world would be a boring place without rumors. If you don't like them don't comment on them.
A quad-core Cortex-A9 GS3 would make me a sad panda. There are going to be a lot of kickass A15 and Krait-based phones out this year. If Sammy goes with A9 it's going to lose its competitive edge.

The Galaxy S III is Samsung's new flagship smartphone and it's finally broken cover at the company's stand-alone Mobile Unpacked event here in London. With a steady stream of fakes, outright leaks and even event rescheduling, Samsung's claimed almost crazy levels of interest for its new smartphone. Weighing in at 133g (4.7 ounces) and whittled to 8.6mm at its thickest, the rounded-off design has more than a little bit in common with its Galaxy Nexus cousin. Of course, it's Samsung's new 1.4GHz Exynos 4 Quad processor doing the legwork, and there's 1GB of RAM to help it out. The display has been bumped up in size to a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED affair, sporting a 1280 x 720 pixel count. The TW ICS status bar is pretty bad looking, hardly a difference from Gingerbread. They would've gotten me more excited with an AOSP style status bar, but I guess that's something I'll have to do, myself.

the question now becomes, will it be the same footprint as our battery so we can buy one and use it in our phones

So far, HTC One X us version/ Evo 3g lte looks better -
better screen, better camera.
The only thing this phone still has is samsung hardware accelerated apps + possible faster cpu/gpu.

I was actually looking forward to this, but am a bit underwhelmed, its just meh to me for some reason lol.
I don't think its that much of an upgrade from our phone to the SGIII.

It'll end up being a hit regardless because it's dubbed "quad core".

dont get me wrong im not saying ill never own one but i wont be all waiting like a school girl 6 months for it ..... Ill pickup the EVO LTE first

I'll be waiting for the final product before I decide but I'm definitely going to skip the HTC since my current phone still makes me happy.

The spec sheet goes onto to list some upgrades to some the specs that many have felt held back the Galaxy Nexus from true greatness like it’s poor processor, horrible camera sensor, and lack of expandable memory. As you can see from the above spec sheet, an updated 1.5GHz (unspecified processor) A9 processor has been listed and could be the higher-end OMAP 4470 with beefier PowerVR SGX544 GPU. Also listed is an 8MP rear camera with 1.9MP front facing camera which, if bringing along with it an improved camera sensor, could mean drastically better picture quality. The display is also listed as matching that of the Galaxy S3, improving the quality of the original. The most shocking update is the inclusion of an SD card slot, something die-hard Android users have been vocal about the Galaxy Nexus lacking (along with any other new Android device launching without).
Exciting? Most definitely (if true). I guess the next question is, when will this Galaxy Nexus Plus be released and if it’s possible to have too many Nexus phones out at one time? Nah…

I agree. Google has been pushing the cloud so hard, they aren't going to give in and include an SD card.

I don't understand why google and apple are doing this knowing that phone companies are offering less and less data with their plans.
I did happen to get a 6gb plan at a good price, but these are few and far between. Many people only have like 1gb of data per month

Give me a quad core, a physical keyboard, and an sdcard slot and i'd ditch my gnex in a minute.

I want a Nexus with an LCD like the one from the One X. That's the one thing I really miss from my One X. Well, the camera too.

What if they were to release two Nexuses?
Galaxy Nexus Plus, which is the cheaper model and a more expensive one with better specs?

Quadcores are overrated. Core to core dual cores are faster. And not very many things are optimized for more cores. Keyboards add bulks and on screen is much faster. And sdcard slot wouldn't be bad but your already living without one...

Coming from a Desire HD, the specs of this "Galaxy Nexus Plus" don't look too bad. However they don't seem to be that much of an improvement over the current Nexus. Even so, my next phone will definitely be the next Nexus.
Although I would like one, an SD card slot nearly certainly will not be included.

did anyone notices that this 'Plus' version comes before its successor?
samsung made the advance/plus version of their previous devices after they announce and sell their current flagship (S Advance, S2 Plus) why not on this one?
looks like the 'Real' next Nexus wasn't made by samsung..

just because i dont like sdcards. Personal opnion.

I would love the bump in specs I just hope they keep the on screen buttons. Can't wait to see the design. Also glad Samsung is building the Nexus, I think Sammy makes some sexy looking devices I just wish they would use slightly higher end materials to make their phones. But regardless the Nexus plus (if that is legit) will dominate.

The processor in the gnex now runs 4.1 buttery smooth. Compared to my previous Motorola and HTC products I could not be happier, I wont deviate from the nexus line in the future.

In terms of design, it'll probably take cues from the GSIII. I foresee a flat back for the first time ever, and the continuation of on-screen buttons.

Just before the Nexus 7 was released, there was a picture that leaked where people claimed it could be the new nexus 7. All the websites (cnet.com, slashgear, etc) published this rumor even though it was obvious from the pictures that it was a phone and not a tablet. It was an ASUS device, and I had suspected that it could be a nexus phone from ASUS. So maybe there will be other options for the next nexus? My personal request is that the external speaker be loud and crisp. HTC phones always seemed to have WONDERFUL external speakers. I got kind of spoiled from my last few phones in this regard, lol.

None of these have held back the GNexus (For me).
Poor Processor - It is on par with most phones out there (Other than the recently released GSIII and One X). I would rather see improvements in the OS before I care about a Quad Core processor (Which Google delivered with JB).
Horrible Camera Sensor - Best camera I have ever used in a phone. I guess people still think more MP equals better quality. The fact that I can snap quick pictures is good enough for me, and unless I blow them up on a 55" screen they look great just viewing from a PC or on my phone / tablet.
Lack of Expandable Memory - I may be a little biased for this one being that I am still on unlimited VZW 4G LTE, but I also have WiFi everywhere I go (Work, Home, basically anywhere I eat, hockey rink), so this doesn't bother me in the least. I have never used the 32GB internal to even half capacity nor have I come close yet with my Nexus 7 16GB. Maybe that is just me, but I still haven't seen too many people argue differently.
I am not saying that the Galaxy Nexus blew me away with it's specs, but being that it is stripped to the core software wise, I don't feel that I need too much in terms of RAM, CPU, etc.

I hope they move to e-IPS or S-IPS LCD.

I doubt any of these "upgrades" would induce a discernible difference in the real world. In fact, I am 99% sure I would not notice any difference in perfomance during everyday use with this Plus version.
