CM9 already booting on the One S..... - HTC One X

...when are we due?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594470
although i prefer not to have it the way it was back on the Sensation....no BT and no camera....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542830
what worries me is that the Sensation (last year's flagship wasn't it?) still doesn't have source released for camera & bt, hence no support in CM9/MIUI

Well it will be the same as sensation until one x kernel source is released by HTC I would imagine. It will prob need a port. I was going to have a try but haven't got the time

if you'll see something, it won't be on XDA guaranteed

Well, since the ASUS Transformer Prime has CM9 nightlies (same Tegra 3 chip), then I can't see this taking long. We just need to keep nagging HTC for kernel sources so camera will be supported.

not from what i have been looking at mate..trust me as soon as i see a AOKP or AOSP or cm9 i am on it straight away...plus it is still early days yet with development...so give it a few weeks and once kernel sources drop we are in for a treat
Coming from galaxy Nexus and not looking for aosp right away. I think I'll wait till I get used to HTC sense first.

I've got a Galaxy Nexus and a One X here and I'm really struggling to choose between them. I love stock ICS on the GNex, but the One X's hardware is a noticeable upgrade.
I think The Verge summed it up nicely... basically saying that the One X with stock ICS would be the perfect Android smartphone. But until then, I've got some deciding to do!
Coming soon by trip..

Reply from htc about jb kernel

Hi. So I sent HTC a email after seeing how they had already released the kernel for one x+ asking timeframe for jb kernel and this its what they sent me. Just thought I'd share.
HTC UK Hi Simon, You have not specified which device you are referring to. If you are referring to the HTC One X. the kernel source has been released. The kernel source for the HTC One X with JB however should be on our developers website HTCdev.com within the next month. For more information contact our technical support team at the following link - http://www.htc.com/uk/contact/phone/

GPL for the kernel, yes. The GPL doesn't mention a timeframe for the release of modifications, it says modifications/derivative work distributed in binary form must also provide the source with or available from the same source as the binary. Generally it's to be read as if the binary is available, the source should be too. There is no delay permitted. IANAL.

Have sent this to them via multiple channels.will give them 7 days before taking this further.
HTC. I have asked numerous times in both email to yourselves and on social networks when you will release the htc one x jb kernel source. I remind you you are obligated to under gpl and failure to do so is a violation. I have sent this to you via numerous channels and if no response is forth coming I will be forced to notify Google and anyone else that I need to. You stated to me it would be released within a month around the 20 dec. I suggest you look at this.

Mark my words: We'll be enjoying Android 5.x on our AOSP/AOKP builds before HTC gets around releasing 4.2.
If HTC updated us to 4.2 we'd likely lose the ability to move apps to the sdcard partition. And it's not like they're giving us trebuchet, most 4.2 changes are lockscreen and launcher centric.

ViperX

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Can someone please tell me it isn't true.
Just read it myself, grim news indeed but that's all she wrote I guess. To be fair to rich is there any more he could do with this Rom? He has took it so far and I thank him for that. Time to look for a new device as future updates either official or Dev will dry up
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
True about the Rom and development, it's definitely a beauty. We owe rich and the whole team a big thank you, so thank you
I am also very said as viperx was the very first rom I ever flashed and I think the other roms will never have even near as many features as viperx. :crying:
I just hope maybe other dev will take the project from where Rich left it and provide a few more updates.

Sad moment for hox users, for me best rom, we lost also good kernel devs....this device is dying faster than his older brother Sensation...
Yeah, even the desire had longer support than this. Guess I will wait til the new year and see what comes outs. No point buying the one when they will announce a new flagship early next year

And i can't afford htc one, or htc m8, i am happy that i bought hox, it was a nice upgrade from Sensation, so i will settle down, see what will happen with viperx.... :S
I can't afford it either, but I could get one on contractb as my bro can get me 30% of the bill. I love my one x with viperx just feel left down by official support

HOX isnt lucky at all , once you take a look at its older brother you ca understand what I mean , if you check the HTC Sensation you will find it has much more suport
there you will have a nearly stable KITKAT ROM, not only one 1 kitkat ROM but 3 Kitakat ROM
developers there has been able to write a whole new kernel for Sensation from scratch
Team Venom over there has been able to port Sense5 to Sensation , now my sensation can run 7 different versions of Sense
Our HOX is still young but sadly there isnt much of developer love

It's not because of devs, it's because of tegra, nvidia, htc....tegra is crap for porting, nvidia is bad for drivers, and for htc is hard to relase kernel source code for nearly 4 months....
My other device with is desire hd still got MORE support than my beloved hox(and it's like 4 years old now? :/)... can't believe that the phone "died" in development for only around year and a half activity in that section. Every dev moved out from the phone like it's some kind of epic fail. Maybe it is, dunno anymore... ;(
It's not hard to understand, the phone itself is no epic fail. To me a great phone. The restrictions in hardware make it very hard to port software easy. That's the main reason !
I'll miss viper. I guess its time I go back to good ole stock.
If anyone skilled here can port ViperX+ rom to ONE X, than me and monarx could continue support to ViperX as we would be updating same base, and we would make common rom for both phone's.
Thats just an idea, i have no actual phone to try it my self, even phones are very similar it could be tricky to do it, but no impossible.
Viper Thread shouldn't be blocked, it will be the best rom for months even discontinued, if it's blocked it will die in days

I would still go for the One X. Mainly because of the better camera, processor and the screen size, boomsound isn't necessary for me right now

I would go for one mini, its a newer phone and just better user expirience using it, and if you are not happy, just sell it and buy one x again with some spare money left, no brainer for me.
Just from the POV of software updates, the One Mini is a much better choice. As we all know the HOX has been abandoned.

But only a small bit. In the future, a new version of android will come out, only for it to be impossible to port it to this phone because of its CPU and the lack of kernel sources because Nvidia ditched it.

It's correct, but in past there are much devices, wich are no longer supported so much after HTC kill official update way. And for Users who love the Sense UI (e. g. me) it is better to go to a new phone from HTC to get updates.
BTW: i think it is better to wait a little bit (a few months) with buying a new HTC Phone. If HTC launched new One M8 phone, the old M7 will be cheaper.
