I am using an epic that has been ported over to virgin mobile.
the issue i'm constantly running into is that i cannot send multipaged sms.
i don't believe the sms is being split properly for vm.
has anyone else run into this problem?
If so have you fixed it? (and how)
Try Google voice
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
yes ofc google voice will work, but i'm interested in having sms work as well.
Then try another app
Say go sms

Hm
First and foremost. WHO ported the phone to Virgin Mobile? Was it you? A friend? A company or business that sold it to you? I could totally sue them for riffing off my guide, not giving credit where it's due, and selling free info for profit.
Anyway, what Rom are you on? make sure you have SMS split on under the messaging app, if it comes out garbled, it's because of that.
Sometimes their network may have issues, it is not uncommon for your own service to screw up after a couple months, it's the norm for Virgin Mobile and what you can do if you suspect it's the network is give them a call, dont mention the epic, just say you're having texting and call issues, and that you'd like your line reset, if they offer simple solutions, just keep saying nope, not working until they give in and reset your line. That could clear up your issues.

I'm traveling overseas in September for over half a month and want to call Sprint and get them to freeze my account while I'm gone. I understand the monthly fee is $8.99 (don't know if they will pro-rate it or what) which is much better than paying for that month of service that you hardly use.
Since I'm going out of the country and won't be able to use my EVO, I'm assuming I can freeze my account but still use the phone, just without any mobile wireless capabilities.
The wifi should be able to look up stuff online, check email, and look at Google Maps, correct? I just want to make sure there's not some weird kind of thing that Sprint would lock out all the features of your phone.
Bottom line: you can freeze your account but still use all features besides making calls and sending texts via mobile broadband, right? But all apps (besides GPS) can work off wi-fi, unless the app is specifically designed to use mobile broadband only.
Thank you to anyone who helps!

I thought that would be the case too, but GV relies on the phone's non broadband capabilities - so you need mobile broadband/phone line for it to work.
I thought I was being clever and found away to never use minutes by using GV to dial to landlines but that's not the case.
I would venture to say that unless you are traveling somewhere that has cdma coverage, your normal phone related functions won't work anyway since you won't have reception. You really shouldn't need to pay a fee to basically disable the phone portion of your phone since on the evo, you have the option to have the airplane mode exclude wifi from the radios it disables. I traveled to the UK back in april and can attest to the fact that the wifi on my old pre worked without a hitch and I can also confirm that it did not receive signal either so there were no incoming calls or sms messages to worry about. All that said, you shouldn't have any trouble with wifi. As long as you're on wifi, google maps should work just fine as well.

OK thanks, I didn't want to assume anything, because, you know, I really wouldn't be surprised if a company froze more than just sending/receiving texts/calls capability (in addition to web surfing obviously).
I just don't want to pay almost $100 for 2 weeks of service out of the month - so I need to give em a call and see if they can freeze it for 2 weeks and charge me half as much, that way I can save a little cash.

Any VOIP should work on wi-fi... damn skype and Fring shenanigans... I was so looking forward to that when I deployed... would have made it so much easier to communicate with my wife. (shes not real big on technology and my short fuse of trying to setup/explain how to do new things sucks) lol...
You basically sumed it up, all apps should work fine unless they need specific network support. In my past experiences with deploying for short terms, it was actually just easier to suck it up and pay the bill instead of downgrading service. They don't always get it right and if you end up coming back early it can be a PITA to get it back on..

Thanks, I was thinking about the same thing about it being such a pain in the ass to deal with it as well... and when I finally get back stateside at least I'll definitely have service.
Although Google Voice requires the mobile network for phone, it uses data for sms and I expect mms. So if you had WiFi access you would have texting available.

So, I am really getting irritated that you can not dismiss a call or the call wont dismiss itself when you are on call waiting and want to get rid of 1 caller. Then, once you have used the call waiting 1 time on a phone call, since it doesn't disconnect itself when the person you want to dismiss hangs up, there is no option to answer another call when it comes in. There has to be a way to fix this flaw, and there are so many of you intelegent devs out there. was wondering if any of you know a way to fix this. Also if you could, while on 3 way call make it to be able to go back to only one caller on the line without having to hang up on everybody. Thanks in advance for anyone that has a fix for this.
Omg I hate that so muchhhhh. I think its something to do with android cuz this was how it was on my hero
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It's actually a CDMA limitation on Sprint's part (network), not anything particular to do with Android.
Forgive My Brevity. To Be Or Not To Be...
i didn't have that problem on my moment
And I've never had it with any phone I've ever had with sprint, and I've been with sprint since about 2000. This is definitely a samsung issue, but all they can tell me is that they are working on it.
I don't know.... I still have that same issue on my touch pro 2 with sprint. My girl has the evo and same **** there too perhaps it is either a sprint thing or cdma thing

No offense but that is bull. We have the issue on our Epcis but not on our Evo, and absolutely not an issue on TP2!
So devs, is there anyway to fix this?
Thank you
Thank you aero1. When I was reading his post, I was like, "I know I'm not stupid." I've had the Touch, Touch Pro, and the Evo, and neither of them had this problem. As far as a fix is concerned, when I first got the phone, I called Samsung about it, and they told me they were working on it, and that they would have an update out for it. But, you know Samsung. The 3-way calling isn't the only issue here. Switching back and forth between calls is hard, if you try to three way someone in, and they don't answer, you have to hang up or just have the entire conversation on their voicemail. If a second person calls you while you're on the line with someone, there is no longer a swap button. I'm saying all this just in case there are others out there like the guy who says this has always been a problem. It's not just a three way calling problem, it's the dial pad.
I have seen this too on.gy epic and my friend with evo says the same
Basically when you are on a call and you get another call you can't answer that without losing the current call...the hold option doesn't work either...I think its a sprint issue...3 way calling is impossible.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
???
But that isn't a problem on the Epic, and I don't think it's a problem on the Evo either. You CAN answer a call without losing the current call on the Epic. I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about. The issue is, should you get another call, after that, you don't lose it, you just can't click back over. I have an Evo, and I can assure you that it is not a problem on MY Evo.
Skype Can Do It!
I found a workable/laughable solution to this 3-way calling problem. For $2.99 a month, you can get unlimited calls with Skype, over a wifi, or 4G connection. Sad, I know, but so far, it's worked just fine for me, and has been fairly flawless. I put my number in to show up in the Skype caller ID, so that when I do make calls from skype, they see my number pop up.

Anyways, can any one help me. I updated to jelly bean OTA, and since then my LGOG does not like to send text messages out. My phone will not send messages shorter than 10-20 characters. Im in the CHICAGO area. No problem receiving them, just more often then not i get a failed sent. I have tried resetting the phone hard/soft. I took my phone into sprint and they said I need a new phone. Wtf! Anyone have this issue, or have any ideas to resolve this?
Im pretty disapointed right now, the phone was flawless before the update! Never had a single problem before. Thanks in advance.
UPDATE.. In conclusion,if anyone is interested, I believe the new jellybean update just doesn't play well with my towers in my area of Chicago. With the jelly bean update my voice signal was excellent, but the data signal was degraded. I always noticed, with ics while 4glte was connected, the voice signal was less. With jelly bean it seemed to be just the opposite at all times, great voice so so data connection. Only if i could have both and jellybean wtf?? Maybe someone could help me on here and explain a radio/jelly combo i would have best of both worlds.
Seems to be a Chicago issue.
**Either way I aquired LGNPST and original TOT file and reflashed the phone with original software and have not accepted the jellybean update for now.**
If you would like me to host the files needed PM me, I'll send you links.
I suposed I could have tried to reflash ZV9/ICS or ZV9 radios, but I bricked the phone before trying that.
I must have got the best phone out there. I've never had a problem with any software version we've had.

I have not tried the ## but ill give it a shot. Sprint may have done that.
More on this issue, it seems just not to send short messages. Like lol, no, yes anything shorter than a sentence. I have noticed tht long texts send fine, and picture text seem lightning fast. Whch is great, but cant respond to someone with a simple yes or no. Wtf
I have also noticed a bigger delay between automatic switching between 3g and 4g. Before the update the switching was seamless.
I have also rooted and reflased the ota, same issue. I did not flash the radios seperate tho.
The ## did not fix my text issue. Sprint store did do this as well.
Still have this same issue anyone figure anything out? Anyone have anymore suggestions i can try? Sprint does something on their end, and restore the phone with ## and it works for an hour, then back to the same issue.
Peteyo, are you in Chicago? Maybe it's it's a network issue. I'm having the same problem and so is my buddy. I can't believe more people aren't coming forward with this if it's a national thing.
But let me know if you find a fix, and I'll do the same. And you're right, it only happens on short messages!
Im in Chicago and having the same issues, even with other messenger apps that use stock mms, I also use whats app and have no issues. They seem to be random some send and some don't. If there is a fix please post it is a pain .

I have chalked it up to LG sucking! or I supose it could be sprint. The JB update they pushed changes the way the phone communicates with the towers. I grabbed bits and pieces from other threads with data problems and came to that conclusion. It doesn't appear to make issues with everyone, or have the same problems.
What i did, and what maybe the easiest is to reflash the phone back to its original form out of the box. Also im not accepting the ZVB/jelly bean update that messed up our phones. To return to original state, u must aquire LGSNPT, and Sprint`s original tot file. You can find these two in the developer sections. Its really easy and painless and get you right back where u need to be. The toughest part is putting your phone into download mode. vol+ vol- and power buttons.
Make sure u back up your pictures/things you may want to keep.
Option 2 you can **** around and try to find an ICS file, root your phone, and flash it back to ics. Or better yet root and flash ZV9 radios.
However im not sure if these will work. I have not been able to find ZV9 radios.
Option 3 if you have insurance get a new reman phone, or if no insurance pay sprint 50bucks for a reman phone. But you will still have the same issue if you update to ZVB/jellybean.
I wish I new more about this stuff and make a custom radio that has the voice improvements from ZVB/Jellybean, and the data from ICS/ZV9. Probably not even possible.

The strange part of all of this is that my text messages will always send if they are greater than about 10 to 20 characters. Anything smaller than that amount will give me a send failure. Has anyone else had that experience?
Data and Cell Reception have been stellar for myself since the update -- I believe I was having the texting issues before OTA (though I wasn't rooted at that point)

Don't you feel a greater level of sophistication when you have to type an entire sentence?
I'm sure it's Sprint trying to cut down on their SMS costs, but I'm not a conspiracy theorist.
Funny! I guess I should have just added a bunch of quick messages that are complete sentences for a yes or no answers. And the lesser 4g reception does slow down my midget porn downloading. Maybe it really is a win win...

Wow, this is frustrating. After half a year of thinking that Sprints network sucks and suffering through terrible connections I finally fixed my issue. After an ice storm this week I was getting nothing but a slow 3g connection. Tonight I was digging through ##data# settings and switched the network from "hybrid mode" to "cdma/evdo/lte mode" and the thing connects giving me 1.1 mb/s for download speeds. I thought I was going to have to force LTE only to be able to connect but I have not dropped back to 3g since switching over to this. I wish I would have done this months ago but toggling airplane mode worked to give me my 4g back so I didn't really worry about it.
If I remember from the epic touch days when you mess around with that it doesn't allow you to send MMS or make calls I think. Might be different now.

Sorry it took me a couple days to reply. I wanted to make sure to put it through all the paces. I have had nobody tell me they weren't able to reach me. This has actually been an improvement for me because while I was at home and would receive a phone call I would only hear the ring for about 5 seconds before it sent them to the voicemail. Phone calls are ringing right in now. One thing that happens is I get "darth vader" sounding either on my end or their end after a ten minute conversation or so. Although that happened before I changed this setting when I was stuck on 3g. Network pangs I guess. I am more than happy to call somebody back to have a steady 4g connection. All SMS/MMS questions do not apply to me because of how I use my phone. With google voice those are both going through data instead of messaging in its traditional sense. I LOVE google voice and the extensions to messaging that it provides me like being able to use it on wifi when I have 0 connectivity. I prefer typing out messages through the browser if I am at home because my stupid fingers have problems with hitting the wrong button on touch screen keyboards. Sorry for sounding like an advertisement for GV, lol. Nobody has my real sprint number... I use the GV number so I have extremely easy portability between providers when I decide to move. No mass messages to people with my new number that they might glance over.
Anyway, Hopefully other people have success with what I tried here.
Another thing I am wondering because of people saying they had different settings input. I should have mentioned in the OP that I am currently on TPR 3.12. Are the people who have a different option on a different rom?
I would like to know if I can have WiFi and Mobile Data on at the same time. I do not get MMS messages til I get off WiFi and also I can't get on my T-Mobile App to check minutes and data. It Keeps saying "Sorry, no data connection is available" I looked in my settings and said Mobile Data is disconnected.... Is this normal? Thanks In Advance.

127 people viewed this and not even a simple yes or no or even post a link to a thread thats relevant to my problem? Posted this on another forum this morning and got 7 people that don't know if you can but are still trying to help me figure it out. Thought the whole reason for these website were to share ideas, develop things for the community and help other out with their issues. It's not like I didn't search all over the Internet before coming as a last resort instead of thinking of it and just posting it here first. What a pathetic place to get help. Have a nice day doing whatever it is ya'll people do.

Hmm... to be fair sometimes a lack of response is more a lack of confidence in any particular response that might be given. At times repercussions get ...awkward... for saying things that others might find ill informed, and as such a tendency to not say anything unless rather certain on the answer develops.
Anyhoo - I hadn't noticed the fact that the mobile network state listed itself as disconnected when connected to wifi... but ultimately (opens self up to possibly saying something stupid...) I can think of no good reason certain functions of the phone (at least mms or the tmobile app) would depend on mobile data being connected while wifi disconnected. Doing a quick test on my end - both of these functions seem to be behaving as expected while on wifi (tested with wifi calling NOT on, not sure that would throw a wrench in anything but you never know) - does the issue exist across wifi sources? That sort of thing might be something to bring up to a TMo service rep - not sure they will be of any help but given the response you've had here it couldn't be much worse, right?

Thank you for your response. I finally called Tmobile and they told me that their apps will only work on mobile data and are not meant to work over wifi even though they say my mobile data will always be on it just goes into a low power state and that MMS has to be set to auto receive which somehow was not checked. Everything seems to work fine. Just one question for you. Did i read that you said you could get on your tmobile account app with WiFi on? Again thank you very much for answering me back. Just was have a bad morning because i get alot of MMS messages for work and it got to me... Also I'm one of those guys that no believe in a stupid answer. If someone's trying to help no matter what they say I'm just greatful for the help

I was able to, but perhaps it was just a trick of app cache as opposed to it actually working... strange they require data, you'd think if it was that much of a need they'd force it to engage and wake up the low power state instead of forcing you to turn off wifi. Ah well, learn something new everyday Sorry I wasn't more help
