I have ICS FD05. In adb shell, with root, when I run:
Code:
pm disable com.sec.android.app.snsaccountfb
or any other built in app, it just segfaults...
I remember i could disable some of those apps using pm disable in GB...
You can actually do this without terminal now. Just go to applications and find the one you want to disable and disable it.
Or you could just as easily uninstall it given that you're rooted.
Thanks for the tip. But the disable button is gray. And I also noticed the size of the app is 0.00b. I'm wondering if it's active at all.
Would titanium backup be smart enough to uninstall it?
Yeah TB will uninstall it. Not sure why the app would be 0.00KB unless it's 'uninstalled' already. Not sure if you remember that old issue where you would uninstall something from the system and the icon would have this grayed out icon of an sdcard. Either that or the pm disable is causing it.
Yeah i see a lot of apps in the list that are 0.00kb. I'm wondering if it has do with the fact that it's a leak, or it's just how ICS is...
But TB got rid of the ones I wanted.
Thanks for the help!
I don't think 0.00kb is how much space the app takes up, rather it is how much "cache/data" the app has created.
I use an app called system tuner pro. It is pretty helpfull. You can freeze apps, that way they dont run, you can also disable apps at startup. It also has a one-click option to wipe cache and dalvik cache. I have been using that a lot with ics since there isnt a good recovery. I will move or replace system apps with root explorer, then go into system tuner and wipe cache and dalvik, the reboot and tada!!! new themed apps (I did an inverted version of the 4.0.4 Mms.apk with split 160 for anyone who wants to know)

I rooted because I was fed up with the preinstalled Orange bloatware apps as I need the space! I used unrevoked and I have full root access i.e. I have the superuser app and I have been able to access the system partition and even managed to delete apk files from the system apps directory.
However, despite trying all the suggestions i found on these forums and elsewhere; Root Explorer, System App Remover and Titanium backup, no matter how many times I remove the apps in question, within a short time, the phone reboots and the apps are back again!
Please note that I am only trying to remove the stupid games etc which Orange stuff the ROM with not anything significant.
I really dont fancy flashing a new ROM as I cant be bothered setting up my phone again from scratch, so any advice somebody can give would be REALLY apreciated!!
You need to S-Off your phone, not just root if you want to remove your applications, while the phone is booted.
Search a guide here in the Android Developement section.
Alternatively use ADB to remove the files - your phone must be in recovery mode.
Thanks so much!!
Or better yet, just install one of the custom roms with a2sd. If you don't want a modified one, just use rooted froyo with a2sd, this is a good one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789058

If you are S-ON you can delete them with ADB when you are in recovery mode.
You can also delete them through root explorer from the market. It's not free but it takes two minutes to use and you can see what your deleting if you are unsure
I have the same issue here.
Will try the ADB method when get a chance, but Root Explorer won't delete them - you can delete unwanted games etc, but they are still on the apps list the the files will come back after the reboot - tried this already.

You are S-OFF, so no wonders why you don't have any problems
titanium backup
why not just use titanium backup. its free and a very easy way to uninstall apps.
Again, you need to be s-off to uninstall system apk, which unfortunately all the bloatware is.
Clarification, you need to be s-off to use titanium or root explorer to remove system apk.

@vis-tec: It's Orange UK, rooted, but S-ON. ADB method works perfect tough. Tested last night. Also integrated some system apps updates in the ROM via ADB.
titanium backup hasn't work for me either.
only ADB
remember that deleting bloatware does not give you any extra amount of space.
these apps are in \system which is not where apps you download install.
only way of extending you app-space is A2SD+ or DATA2XXX but they tend to slow down the phone
best solution >> S-OFF and ROM designed to run on a custom HBOOT.
u get lots of space, and a super fast rom since dalvik cache stays on NAND

it does.
i've had google maps, youtube updates etc in the /data/app and after deleting bloatware and the old versions of gmaps etc. there was enough space in /system/app to move the updates there.
so now on the /data/app is 8-10MB more for my other apps.
also if i'm right the /system partition is used as cache for apps, so there is more space for this.
and it looks way better when you open 'all apps' drawer - the list is much shorter now and there is only the stuff you need
Hi, I have been having a recurring issue on my SGSII and was hoping somebody might be able to offer some advice. I have some apps on my device that are not from the market, and I do not want showing up in the market for updates. In the past they did not, but at some point, my market links got screwed up and I used Titanium to restore them. This not only fixed the correct ones, but also added market links for a number of apps that did not have them before, and for which I don't want market links.
I know that if you go into Titanium and long press the app, you can detach from market. I've done this, re-backed up the app, and it usually works, but only temporarily. Eventually the market links end up restored somehow. Does anyone know how to permanently break these links? Is there a way to do it through settings? Is there another program that might work better?
Thanks for any help...
I know what you're talking about. You might just uninstall the apps, erase the backup (reboot), and reinstall them (reboot again). Back them up after the reinstall and reboot cycle. Also, erase the market data and cache. That's the only advice I have. Maybe somebody else has an easier solution.

I don't have the original APKs for a lot of them... if I pull the APK from the Titanium Folder to reinstall, would that work?
No that wont work, install/restore the app, go into /data/app and copy/paste the app to your sd card. I noticed that too with some apps that I've ummm....made an extended trial period.
What is going on with this. I am on caulkins el29.
I have just installed it and I wanted to put Digitalclock.apk back on the phone.
I tried one I downloaded.
I tried one that was in my apps backup..
I tried one that was in uninstalled system apps.
Nothing works.
I even tried pulling my external sd card. I tried installing with the cable plugged in.
I tried unmounting and reformatting my sd card.
Nothing will get this stupid app to install. I have now dedicated 4 hours to trying to install a clock.
Does anyone have an idea of what is happening? I am on an epic touch, rooted with caulkins el29

That's the only thing you didn't say you did, wipe cache and dalvik, reflash the rom, don't wipe data. It'll be back on there no problems.

OK, went into recovery. Wiped cache and dalvik cache. Reinstalled the rom.
Same thing. None of the apk's on the sd card will install.
I've used root explorer to copy and paste it into system apps. Changed permissions to rw-r-r and sometimes need to reboot.
I have the version from an ics theme that has the green replaced with blue.
If youdd like to try that one I can upload and post.

Well that didn't work... I see a lot of posts from people about this issue, but no one seems to know what's going on.
I don't know then. I'm on Caulkins ICS and have just copied it over.
May be stupid question as I'm sure you've tried everything but did you try deleting the old first?
Sorry it didn't help.
none of the system apks (put in the uninstalled folder) will install.
stuff on the market installs fine.
Gotta get root explorer bro, always works for me use the same method with it and be sure to toggle read/write settings, if not, make sure you have full root access and not partial, you may want to reflash the rom too.
Getting errors while trying to install apks from the Removed_App/system_app folder on the Bare ROM?
Be sure to install them through ADB, root explorer, etc. Don't try to install them by clicking on it like you would a normal apk
Ex. ADB command
Code:
remount rw
cat /sdcard/Removed_Apps/system_app/App.apk > /system/app/App.apk
chmod 644 /system/app/App.apk
chown 0.0 /system/app/App.apk
reboot
Copied straight from Calk.
i have the same issue, some of the stuff from titanium back up wouldn't install, and the same files won't install from the market either.
these are some of the stuff i've tried but yet failed
1. wipe cache and delvic
2. tried on other ics roms
3. formated sd card.
4. rebooted the phone.
it justs says, couldn't install on usb drive or sd card.
I would really like a fix.
it happened ever since I've install ICS. i do not feel like going back to GB
1. because of chances of bricking.
2. because it's a hassel.

Sorry, Titanium Back Up..= tbu.
Open Titanium, menu, prefrences, scroll down to "App Processing Mode"
Once you open it there are 3 choices. Direct, Indirect and a third I cantt remember.
The FAQ for Titanium recommends indirect if you have problems during restore (like it hangs).
Not sure this will help. Did for me on an app so thought I would offer.

thank you but it's only for pro users.
I have the premium version of Titanium Backup which I have been using for over a year with much success.
I have one query which would make it really awesome if it can be accomplished.
I normally only use it when doing a ROM upgrade. When I am getting ready to upgrade, I delete all my old backups, do a new set of backups on all user apps + system data, and wipe and flash the ROM. Then, when I'm back inside, I go into the Market and download Titanium plus the Pro unlock, and restore the backup.
(First of all, is this what you guys do? restoring all system data shouldn't screw up the features of the new ROM from the old one, right?)
The question is: Is there any way to have Titanium run without having to first go into the Market, find the app plus the unlock, download it, and install it? i.e. If I could just run it straight off the SD card, or install it straight off the SD card without having to use the Market.
Ideally, it would be even better if I could have a startup script on first run where it just restores the full set of apps + system data after I've flashed the ROM.
Is this at all possible?
download or extract from a rom the titanium.apk, put it on sd-card an install the apk after flashing new rom and it´s done.

Never restore system data as it can and has causes issues. It is only advised to restore user apps and data never system data.
As for your other question no not that I know of. Most roms worth anything already include TIBU so all you have to do is install the pro key and run it.
Start Titanium backup
Goto menu/more/create update>zip
scroll down and hit "create update.zip"
when you install a new Rom just use "add another zip" when in Rom manager or 4EXT recovery
Goto SD card and select "update.zip" from root of SD card
Hope that helps

Thanks, that's great!
Do you know if it is smart enough to bundle the Pro unlock into the update.zip? I opened the zip file up and there only appears to be 1 APK in there.
Would it be difficult (or even possible?) to manually adjust the update.zip so that it includes the Pro unlock APK?

So I'm returning my nexus for a replacement today. Some kind of battery issue that makes it keep turning off every night:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34923533#post34923533
On restoring, if I understand right, I'm going to move my titanium folder back to the new nexus to the SD card area.
Run my TiBU apk and just restore my apps and associated files.
If I understand right, I Should Not restore my system files right? (Although i did a lot of customizing i was hoping could come right over).
Then when i have it all customized again, I'll back up the new system and hopefully it won't have any issues anymore.
Just an android noob talking it through, sound good?
I'll be installing the rom and CM10 again of course before doing this.

I think he's talking about app names that are red-colored while you're doing the backup in Titanium BackUp.
Am I right?
Cheers
Please delete
How would I do this?
Is it possible to clear data and copy paste my apk over the other one?
Have root.
Thanks
If you have root just use titanium backup to uninstall it. Go into tibu preferences and clear dalvik. Then install the new apk. If it's not an installable apk then before you uninstall the old one find out where the app is in a file browser. Then uninstall it and place the new apk where the old one was, fix permissions, and reboot.
Unfortunately that doesn't work. It even deletes it from system\app but it still appears in my app drawer and I cannot install the older version.
any ideas?
Are you restarting your phone after? Try going into recovery and clearing cache and dalvik.

It's somehow built into the rom. But if anyone has a verizon g4 and wants to see if they can completely remove slacker, let me know.
On Android, you don't need to install apk's as they will install on bootup if you place it in the correct location.
For slacker on the G4, not sure if this is a lollipop thing or a LG thing, you cannot replace the one in /system but rather, what you want to do is out the new version in /data/app since if you mess with the /system version, it will show up as uninstalled on the device.
In /system/priv-app/SlackerRadio directory, you will see:
SlackerRadio.apk,
lib which consists of:
arm folder which has the file librsjni.so
Don't touch any of those and make sure it is stock.
You want to install the new Slacker apk in /data/app/com.slacker.radio-1 folder as base.apk, it will install when you reboot so don't worry about installing it
delete the folder /data/data/com.slacker.radio
delete all the things in /data/dalvik-cache/arm and /data/dalvik-cache/arm64 and reboot.
If you wanted to completely remove Slacker, then all you would do is delete /system/priv-app/SlackerRadio and delete /data/app/com.slacker.radio* with * being anything that can be after it.
I'm not sure why titanium backup isn't working for you. I had slacker and tibu worked perfectly, I'm also on the Verizon g4. It doesn't matter if it's built into the rom. With tibu you can delete any app. But if that doesn't work the steps Almighty1 listed is the long way around but works.
And I see that you're on the Verizon g4, that means you don't have a custom recovery.
