Till now i thought pressing the power button for 10 secs would do the same as pulling the battery.
Now that i have my device, i realize that this is not the case!
instead it reboots the phone, and you can't do anything against it, because we don't have any access to the battery.
So my first horrible thought: What to do if the One X falls into water? :O..
i used to pull the battery, to instantly cut off the electricity, so the hardware could not be damaged, then put the phone into rice for a night, and bam, it was rescued.
but what to do with the One X? 10 secs power button does not work, so it's just lost when it falls into water?..
i'm scared now.. >.<!
just don't drop it into water...
disable fastboot. and then you can shut it down completly. But because of the battery i will be VERY lucky if our one x will survive the bath.
so let's hope that we will never need to try

Hi there,
My HTC Touch Pro 2 wont power on nor hard reset. I did not drop it nor any water has gotten near it. I just pick it up and was about to chk a message, the phone froze and shut off.
I thought it was a drained battery so I plugged it into the wall charger & it started to power cycle its self 10 times without ever fully booting up.
Then it booted up all the way, stayed on for 5 mins, & finally shut off for good now wont power back on, nor does the red/orange power button lights up when plugged in.
Can someone please HELP?!?
** I had only original factory OS and settings prior to this happening**
If you are looking to hard reset it to the factory ship state, then while plugged in, you can attempt to do so by (while plugged in), removing the stylus and back cover and using a thin paperclip or sewing needle to depress the reset button located on the opposite side that your SD card slot is located on. Peronally, I would try taking it in to your local T-Mobile store and having them replace the battery before I do anything. You can purchase one cheap off of eBay for under $10.00USD.
I accidentally spilled about a teaspoon or two of water onto the screen of the GS3. I guess water seeped between the screen causing the phone to power off. I took the battery out and let it dry for two days, but it's still not powering on. What happens when I insert the battery and hit the power button is that I get a vibration, the splash screen of the rom comes up and then the phone powers off.
Plugging the phone into a wall outlet or computer without the battery I get a vibration, the red LED light comes on for a second and then powers off. The computer won't recognize the phone. Is this phone toast?

Should have disassembled it and put the parts in a bowl/bag of rice.

Stop trying to power it on (it only makes things worse) and do what Aerowinder said, take it apart and let it sit in rice. After two days put it back together and see if there's any improvement. If the phone does the same thing after sitting in rice, you may want to try a different battery if you have one or can get a hold of one.

So i went out on a night out and my battery went flat whilst i was out. I come to start it after charging it up and it just keeps popping up with the start up screen for a split second and then going off. It keeps doing this until i unplug the charger or take the battery out. I managed to get into the reboot screen and tried starting it from there to no avail. The battery is only a couple of months old so that should be good.
I took it to a phone repair shop and they said the board was gone and that there was nothing that could be done with it. Is this the case?
I don't generally turn it off just keep charging when it gets below 20% battery life. I did however install solitaire since i last powered it down if this might have any influence on the situation.
Check if you can get into the bootloader. Hold volume down and power.

I have tried this but although it comes up with the bootloader screen it flashes off gain as with the boot up screen. It does not give you time to do anything in the bootloader.

Are you sure the battery isnt completely dead? Did you drop the phone or do anything that may have caused this, or did it just suddenly occur?

No i have charged and recharged it until the green light comes on. The chap at the shop tried another battery also and this had no effect on it.
I dont recall dropping it. It is in a substantial wallet holder so i would think that would take the brunt of the blow even if i had. But it worked fine all night until it powered down then it just started to play up.
Right while messing a bit further it seems to me that the on off button is constantly activating. If i just hold the return button it comes up with the reboot screen and allows me to choose the various options. If i hold the volume button the fastboot screen appears but disappears just as quickly. All of this happens with out me touching the on off button so it looks like it is constantly trying to start up. The button does not have any visible signs of damage. Is this a normal failure point for these phones?
If it charges completely while it's off, then the board should be fine. You can check the percentage in your recovery mode if you can get there.
If the board is fine, it either means that the button is stuck or you have some gunk short circuit in the button.
If it's gunk, you might get away with some rubbing alcohol, If it's in a spray can, even better. If it stuck, it should be opened and see what's keeping it pressed.
I hope this helps.

Phone was dropped into salt water, picked up while floating, wasn't really sunk all the way.
phone was turned off, dried and turned it on again.
Phone booted into the safe mode,
Touch functions work fine,camera.music. sounds,etc... but the problem is with a power button that is not reacting and keeps the phone in a safe mode,
Volume down button is not reacting while volume up button works.
I managed to boot the phone into recovery with CMD and restored it but no progress
Please advise
just rebooted the phone, and it is out of safe mode
volume is fixed, but still issue with power button
there is app to power off the phone, but i am afraid i wont be able to turn it on again
Salt water is dangerous due the salt.
A fried of mine as soon the phone dropped in the sea, washed it with water and after let it dry for 2 days inside a cup of rice.
The phone survived...
still hoping that power button will be fixed itself once the phone is completely dried
or I should wash it and let it dry,,..
Honestly to be safe I'd always suggest keeping the phone off until it sits in rice for 6-12 hours, the longer you keep it off the better. Any water especially salt water can be corrosive to the circuits.
As for washing I'm not completely sure I've only dealt with unsalted water or pool water.

I just drop my whole phone into water.
This is the first time so I a bit shocked and dont know what to do.
By the time I take my phone up, its about 10 seconds drowning in water.
The first thing I do is power it off.
Then I wipe the water away with a cloth.
Water is already inside and maybe short circuit happened? Causing the phone to boot itself and stuck in bootloop.
I cannot turn it off by pressing power button, so I connect my phone to computer and press power button and volume down button going to fastboot mode.
But the fastboot mode just lasts a while and then it goes back to bootloop.
So, I have no choice but to open up the phone for first time.
I found that a lot of water comes in through the charge port and there are many water on the board near charge port.
After drying it for few seconds, my phone exit bootloop and boot successfully.
Anyone know the actual reason the phone boot itself and stuck in bootloop?

Corrosion shorting out contacts, sending commands to the cpu.
Clean the board with isopropyl alcohol, the best concentration you can find, no less than 70%. The best method would be ultrasonic, but if you don't have such device, every switch and button should be submerged in alcohol and pressed/depressed a few time and then let it dry. The board should be cleaned with a q-tip. If you don't do that now, right after the water damage already started, corrosion will kill SMD chips in the future. At least now, you can save it long-term.

When you plug into USB the phone turns on. If the water shorts out some pins on the USB connector, it probably seems to the phone like it should turn on.
I have no idea why it bootlooped.
