Phone was dropped into salt water, picked up while floating, wasn't really sunk all the way.
phone was turned off, dried and turned it on again.
Phone booted into the safe mode,
Touch functions work fine,camera.music. sounds,etc... but the problem is with a power button that is not reacting and keeps the phone in a safe mode,
Volume down button is not reacting while volume up button works.
I managed to boot the phone into recovery with CMD and restored it but no progress
Please advise
just rebooted the phone, and it is out of safe mode
volume is fixed, but still issue with power button
there is app to power off the phone, but i am afraid i wont be able to turn it on again
Salt water is dangerous due the salt.
A fried of mine as soon the phone dropped in the sea, washed it with water and after let it dry for 2 days inside a cup of rice.
The phone survived...
still hoping that power button will be fixed itself once the phone is completely dried
or I should wash it and let it dry,,..
Honestly to be safe I'd always suggest keeping the phone off until it sits in rice for 6-12 hours, the longer you keep it off the better. Any water especially salt water can be corrosive to the circuits.
As for washing I'm not completely sure I've only dealt with unsalted water or pool water.

Hello I was recording underwater at sea with my motorola defy..i recorded 4 days and nothing happened but in the 5th day when i was recording under water (about 30-40 cm deep) the screen started to flash ..the phone drank some water i think..well after 2 days it worked again..only the low volume button was kinda bugged...but after a week my phone crashed..i mean It doesn't want to boot anymore when i connect it to the charger the white led flashes continiously ... I tried to hold volume up and power button but nothing happens..any ideea what can I do ?
As soon as the phone messed up you should've took battery out and dried it, you may have fried it, I drowned my desire z in the toilet and it worked but then fried. Try putting it somewhere warm (like an airing cupboard) in a bowl of rice for a few days, or disassemble the device and dry all parts and clean with alcohol wipes. Either way once its dry if it doesn't work you fried it I'm afraid :/

Yes but elsewhere could be clogged with water, or worse short circuited due to it. When my desire z failed the power button or the charger just turned my led flash on, do not presume that light means you don't need to dry it.
the salt can be heavy... you could try washing it with ordinary water, dissasemble it and try to put parts for few days into bowl of rice. good luck
Short story...this weekend I had my Gnex about 2 feet from a hot tub and was periodically changing songs on it, getting drops of water on the screen and sometimes wiping it off with a towel. Fast forward to an hour after leaving the hot tub (with a fully functioning phone) and my battery dies during a phone call. I plug in the phone (powered off) and a few hours later turn it on to see the screen black/white fuzzy like a tv without reception. I restart but see the same. I pull the battery and shove it in rice for a day... the phone vibrates upon powering up but now nothing at all shows on the screen. I dismantled the phone today and saw the water sensor attached near the charging port is pink. Any thoughts on how I can salvage the phone? My computer recognizes the Gnex but the folder appears completely blank. This phone has been through much worse, I can't believe small droplets on the screen did this. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I accidentally spilled about a teaspoon or two of water onto the screen of the GS3. I guess water seeped between the screen causing the phone to power off. I took the battery out and let it dry for two days, but it's still not powering on. What happens when I insert the battery and hit the power button is that I get a vibration, the splash screen of the rom comes up and then the phone powers off.
Plugging the phone into a wall outlet or computer without the battery I get a vibration, the red LED light comes on for a second and then powers off. The computer won't recognize the phone. Is this phone toast?

Should have disassembled it and put the parts in a bowl/bag of rice.

Stop trying to power it on (it only makes things worse) and do what Aerowinder said, take it apart and let it sit in rice. After two days put it back together and see if there's any improvement. If the phone does the same thing after sitting in rice, you may want to try a different battery if you have one or can get a hold of one.

I just drop my whole phone into water.
This is the first time so I a bit shocked and dont know what to do.
By the time I take my phone up, its about 10 seconds drowning in water.
The first thing I do is power it off.
Then I wipe the water away with a cloth.
Water is already inside and maybe short circuit happened? Causing the phone to boot itself and stuck in bootloop.
I cannot turn it off by pressing power button, so I connect my phone to computer and press power button and volume down button going to fastboot mode.
But the fastboot mode just lasts a while and then it goes back to bootloop.
So, I have no choice but to open up the phone for first time.
I found that a lot of water comes in through the charge port and there are many water on the board near charge port.
After drying it for few seconds, my phone exit bootloop and boot successfully.
Anyone know the actual reason the phone boot itself and stuck in bootloop?

Corrosion shorting out contacts, sending commands to the cpu.
Clean the board with isopropyl alcohol, the best concentration you can find, no less than 70%. The best method would be ultrasonic, but if you don't have such device, every switch and button should be submerged in alcohol and pressed/depressed a few time and then let it dry. The board should be cleaned with a q-tip. If you don't do that now, right after the water damage already started, corrosion will kill SMD chips in the future. At least now, you can save it long-term.

When you plug into USB the phone turns on. If the water shorts out some pins on the USB connector, it probably seems to the phone like it should turn on.
I have no idea why it bootlooped.
My a50 keeps flickering but not in a way that would make you think that the LCD has a problem.
Last night it poured really hard. My clothes were all wet and my phone was in my pocket too. Worked fine until just an hour ago. It's as if the lock button was being pressed at 20 times a second. Whenever it stops and I get to unlock it, it locks itself after a couple seconds and it just flickers over and over again. rinse and repeat. I took off the case and of course, there's moist mostly at the bottom and some to the sides. (not sure if the moisture was from last night though.)
The only way i could restart it is by holding Vol- and Power buttons. Screen is pretty much fine when displaying the Samsung logo, which makes me think it's not an LCD problem.

remove your rear panel, and with the phone shuted off, heat him, and leave at lest a couple hours opened, until it dry totally

I just plugged the phone in to charge it and the problem just went away on its own. I'm just going to assume that charging it "un-shorted" it.
