[Q] Battery issues.

Hi all.
Flashed 2.3d a couple of days ago and have been monitoring my battery usage.
It hardly lasts 24 hours.
My general usage is here:
Browse for approximately an hour - Facebook, Twitter and the regular stuff.
4 -5 short calls (of approx. 3 minutes)
No text messaging at all. Have another phone for text messaging only!
My wi fi is permanently disabled as I rely on my EDGE connection - which is ON only when I browse. I make it a point to switch off EDGE when not in use.
Display settings is reduced to 30% using Quick settings.
No automatic sync of accounts.
GPS is never ON on any given day as such.
No bluetooth usage as such.
I have absolutely NO widgets on my homescreen, I prefer launching the apps directly.
Using the latest radio and I did calibrate the battery after flashing 2.3d.
Haven't overclocked at all. It's the default "smartass" settings. And I have setCPU coming into picture when the screen is off (499 max and 245 minimum).
Any thoughts?
Install currentwidget and set I to log every 5 min. After a day see if, during standby, the current is often above 3 to 10 mA. If so you have a bad app or setting (probably facebook), if not there is not much you can do.

Some people are saying that the following steps increase their battery life, why not give a try :
# Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours or more
# Unplug the charger
# Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
# Unplug the charger
# Turn on the phone and wait 2 minutes
# Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
# Unplug, turn it on and use as normal. Your battery life should now be a lot better

Thanks mate. I guess I'll try this if the problem continues and see where it takes..
turn off use gps satellites in location
turn off use wireless networks in location
turn off wireless and everything in wireless&networks
turn off background data in accounts&sync
go to wireless&networks->mobile networks and change network mode to gsm only
and turn off data roaming, data roaming sound and enable always-on mobile...
Also when you bought HTC you shouldn't power it unless you didnt fully charge battery. And also dont let your battery drain to end, when it comes to yellow you can charge phone freely. And I don't know but when I rooted my phone, battery seems to last longer. Maybe I am wrong.

I installed the battery widget and have been monitoring the usage, and yes the usage when the phone is in sleep mode is around 5 mA extending upto 10 mA at times.
Should it ideally be ZERO? Coz I could also see 0 mA at a given time but it wasn't widespread.
5 - 10 mA is widespread when the phone is asleep (display off).
In that case there is not much to do about battery life. You could lower the CPU speed and the brightness but that are not the best solutions. At last in my opinion.
Getting the mA to 0 during standby is/ should be impossible. The best I got was 3 mA with only 2g.

Oh okay..
On an average, at standby (sleep) how much current does your phone consume?
I've already changed the resolution from auto to a level which I feel is good. Wouldn't want to underclock at all.

[Q] No 3g during night hours, sleep mode?

Dear all,
Is anyone else experiencing the following problem?
When the phone goes to sleep mode during the night hours it wont receive any messages for whatsapp etc. It seems that it turns off the 3g connection when you turn the screen off during the night hours.
Does anyone know a possible fix for this?
I have gone through all the settings and could not find anything about this.
Cheers.
I recently got this on my Desire Z too, and I have not changed any settings on that. Then I noticed it's happening on my One X too..
no 3g late night
Hi there, i have a motorola photon. in the settings menu you can go to what is called battery and data manager. then tap on battery mode. it's default is set to nighttime saver, which will kill your syncing after 15 minutes of inactivity in the hours between 10pm and 5am. i set mine to performance mode. this will sync all of the time and i don't really care if it takes up battery since i am awake and ready to pop in a new battery off my kick a$$ battery dock wall charger!! hope this helps....

I think it's got something to do with what HTC said about "the phone learning" when you check things like mails ect.. so after it has learned that you do not check mail (for instance) during the night it disengages activies... or not
@mykeyvee, there are no such options in the stock rom on this phone.
Anyone have any other ideas?, i want everything to be synced 24 hours a day.

I don't think it's anything to do with settings. My Desire Z is on 2.3.7 and only recently have I got this bug.
My One X is stock unrooted. No settings for power saving.
Accounts and sync>sync schedule>smart sync
Is this what is effecting you

This. I woke up and my 3G wasn't even on. I had to disable and enable data again to get connected.
Same problem here. Whenever my phone is in standby mode for a longer period of time (as far as I've seen it doesn't matter whether it's during the night or day), the data connection (3g) is disconnected.
On my previous phone, a desire Z, there was a setting 'data always on' which addressed this issue. This setting however seems to be missing on all android 4 phones.
**edit:
Contacted Dutch HTC support; they claim it's a feature. Hope they restore the setting in the future..
I have noticed this too this morning.
I woke this morning and went into the battery settings and you can see the graph that all data was shut off over night.
How do we fix this.
Piss. Wondered why it used virtually no battery overnight...

Exactly same here...just as u switch on the screen....it connects to wifi or 3g instantly...

I have received email overnight though....

I was thinking that maybe it was just the 3g/wifi connection which was going into a sleep mode after a long period of inactivity.
I've tried increasing my mail sync at night to once in 30 minutes to prevent the 3g connection from going to sleep and disconnecting. (had it at once in 4 hours)
Now when i wake up and turn the screen on, the 3g icon is already there, and my mail has been synced last in the previous 30 minutes.
Fixed it?
Same issue here, weird thing is that I can't seem to tie it down to either a specific battery-percentage nor a specific time of the day. It's really annoying though, as I would like my device to be connected 24/7. Tried setting a mail-account for 15 min update, so will see how much wifi/3g has been on tomorrow.
Edit: Definitely not a battery issue, but rather a time issue. Battery is at 80% (used the phone little today) and 3G/wifi has been disconnected for the past 2 hours even when mail is set to check every 15 min. I can see that for many people it's not important at night, but I wish we at least had the option to turn it off :/
Possible Fix
Download this app.. Minimaltext
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.devmil.minimaltext&feature=search_result
Create a widget 1x1, under the tap behavior, select start another activity, then select an activity. Scroll now to settings, expand it, choose power saving setting..
Leave the rest default then press okay.
Click the widget and you will find some settings, including put data connection to sleep when screen is off. I haven't tried it. Hope this helps.
Not a bug!
This is not a bug, but a feature : scheduled standby mode
If on Sense 4.x, settings are similar to Sense 3.5, you should go into settings > power then scroll to standby mode. Default setting is auto, which means that the phone learns your sleeping phases and disable every wirless connections during this time when your screen is off, and enable it again automatically when you wake up (even if your screen is still off).
You can disable this feature, or (my favorite option) manually set the duration when you allow your phone to enter and exit deep standby mode.
(For me it's a great feature, as I really dislike having my phone producing airwaves close by my head when I'm sleeping. Before I went to Sense 3.5 on my DHD, I didn't have this option and had to enable plane mode before sleeping ant enter my PIN code every morning to exit plane mode, which was less convenient).
If you want to disable this, download smartsync disabler from the play store. Im pretty sure there is a thread on xda too with an app available to download.
...Or read my previous post... Market's bloatware is not needed, setting for this should be in power settings, as on Sense 3.5.

[Q] PLEASE HELP! Hot Phone and No signal Dead Battery

The phone randomly gets warm by the back top right (when looking at back of the phone below headphone jack) The phone DATA doesnt show, and no calls receives or sends. And battery rapidly drains when this happens, I mean within 30 minutes it goes from 60% to 0%.
I have to keep feeling the top back of the phone to see if it is warm, if so, I know I will miss calls, I reboot.

Some application is running a background process that is probably waiting in a tight loop and not sleeping for short intervals as it should. Orbot does this for me so I have to kill its background processes after using Orbot. Unfortunately the rapid drain and excessive heat confuse the charger so that it does not charge, and I need to reboot to get it working again.
You might have to uninstall applications one at a time to find the culprit.

I have unlimited data so I don't go on wifi at home. I get around 7 hours sot. Location off at home, no samsung/google apps enabled as I don't use them. Brightness turned down quite a bit. Nfc, bt off and power saving always on. No accounts syncing, my 3 emails go to the gmail app regardless. Not sure how this works.

So here's what i did, as i had the same issue it was so bad i thought about returning the phone.
1 - As someone else mentioned kill Connections optimizer its a pile of crap.
2 - Drained the battery to just a couple of % (don't drain it till it turns off) just get close. Plug it in to a USB wall charger and give it a full charging over night. Did this twice.
3 - Used tasker to automate some things like turning off GPS and BT while at work. As well as getting on the work Wifi since i have no cell reception in the dungeon.
4 - Turned on the auto brightness and set back light to 30 secs before turning off.
Today i drove to work streaming spotify over BT for about 30 mins did an 8 hour shift with light-ish usage at work and i was down to about %70 battery.
Seems to be much better after doing the above. Might be worth giving it a try if you haven't done any of those.

Question A52s 15% battery drain overnight - 0 screen on time, no apps used

Hi, I bought 2 same devices (A52s 5G) for my parents. Problem is with just 1 device (they are set up absolutely the same). The problem is with overnight battery drain. I suspect WiFi is the soruce of the problem, because our WiFi router is set to power of Wifi transmission overnight for 6 hours and turn it on automatically in the morning. The problem is - if I don´t turn WiFi off on the affected device, it eats up 15 percent in 6 hours. On the second device there´s no such problem. WiFi could stay on and in the morning the percentage is down by 1-2 % which I think is perfectly normal since the device is still powered on. Percentage graph shows absolutely nothing in app consumption. For example i fully charge it in the evening and in the morning there is 85 % battery left and battery stats shows screen on: 0 minutes, screen off: 8 hours, no apps used. I think the affected device has problem with searching for WiFi and it want to connect all the time to the router? I would really appreciate your suggestions . Thanks
I'd wipe cache then run device care/optimize.
At night try this. Turn off Wifi, Location. and Bluetooth if enabled along with data.. I do this every night before bed.. When I wake up in the morning i usually have 97% left if it is not on the charger.. When I take it off, and go to work with 100%. It will stay at 100% for up to 3-4 hrs if I leave all mentioned still off.

Yes, if I turn WiFi off, it loses just about 2 percent at night. But if WiFi stays on (parents forget to turn it off in the evening, you know) and it can't connect because my router powers off automatically night, it loses 15 percent, which I think is crazy, isn't it? Can you please try this situation? Would be really grateful

It is losing that much, because the wifi is constantly looking for a connection... Keep it on at night and see what happens...

But you have to turn off your WiFi router, thank you! I tried it on my S21 Ultra, and I lost 3 percent overnight, big difference, right?
Something is quite tricky here , you have 2 same phones with same identical settings and one of them loose over night lot of battery ?
In my humble opinion if you're sure about it there can be only a faulty phone

This night I put both phones next to each other, same scenario, before going to bed at 100%. This morning one shows 86 and second one shows 87 percent. Battery stats shows nothing used as usual. So it is problem of both phones, new discovery
Ok , I understand ... There are several settings (look for it) which can save battery over night . 15% battery drain overnight is overall quite too much . My phone , debloated , set with right choices , with moderate use have enough battery for almost 3 days .
What does it mean right choices? Phones are debloated, set with right choices, only thing if parents forget turn off WiFi before bed, in the morning they have 15 percent less battery. So WiFi searching must be culprit. Because WiFi router shuts itself down automatically in the evening. Can someone please confirm that if you leave WiFi ON in phone and turn WiFi router OFF, if you have that much battery drain overnight? Keep everything else off in phone, except WiFi. Thank you
Any recommended debloat/setting guides for the newcomers?
My phone started the same few days ago. I just updtated everything now, will wipe cache, turn off wifi and see what it does overnight.
Turn off 5G, keep only 4G/LTE. This improved my battery life a lot.
I don't have this device so I'm not sure if this works, but Wi-Fi advanced settings should have an option to turn off automatic scanning for Wi-Fi. Try turning that off
I always find always on display feature draining my battery excessively. Try turning it off and see if theres a difference

Always on display is activated by default (default settings is "Tap to show") Unless you turn it off manually on the settings, it still is always on and drains that much battery as it needs to be always ready to be tapped. Not using it and not seeing Always on display text means it is off in the settings

As I said, always on display is turned OFF in both devices. WiFi is the problem, when it´s turned off in phone, it drains 1 percent (max.) at night, when forget to turn WiFi OFF, it drains 15 percent overnight, which I think is crazy.
Arobase40 said:
That could be a problem in the conception of your apartment or your house and the material or furniture in between one of the phone and the wifi router. I have got such a problem but with bluetooth headset when going to the water closet (interference issue) in a temporary apartment when my main one has burnt... ^^ lol
So try to switch both phones at least once and see if the problem persists...

It has nothing to do with signal, if phone is connected all night (router stay ON), there is no drain. But when I turn router off (which I want to) and forget to turn WiFi OFF in phone, it drains 15 percent overnight. On both A52s phones. On my S21 Ultra there is zero drain overnight, I can calmly leave WiFi on and turn router off.
