1) We do not Pirate on XDA you Should be banned.
2) We are a Community of people Who Just want to Make Our device better.
Piartes are Scum who are Ilegal and annoying this is what kills developers. You should be ashamed Coming here and saying you want free apps. Root Gives only Privaliges to Certain apps. Unlocking the bootloader Means Voiding your Warranty (ROOT voids as well) and Being able to flash Custom ROM/Kernel.
3) Get off of XDA DEVELOPERS WE DO NOT PIRATE WE RESPECT PEOPLE. IF YOU PIRATE THEN YOU HAVE NO REASSON TO BE HERE AND HAVE A ACCOUNT.

Depends on your firmware. Search and find out.
To everybody else who responded, there is nothing magical about root that lets you pirate.

totally right there, what i meant by free games was free 3d games that optimise the ps controls on the phone, also ones that didnt need an sd card as i dont get that untill tomorrow.
my firmware is 2.3.4, would i have to pay someone to do it?

What we need is your Sony specific firmware number, if that is above .62, then yes the only way to root it's too pay someone to unlock your bootloader (iirc, the R800i (one you have?) is a little different than the R800x (one I have))

Yes, that's the build number.
You're good, root via the zergRush link in my signature or SuperOneClick (www.shortfuse.org) Both of these roots need a computer (the exploit is located in adb)

Use ZergRush method by DoomLord, an easy toolkit to root your phone without unlocking bootloader if you're on Firmware .42. For .62 you'll have to unlock your bootloader to gain root.

Bit harsh Xperia4life. Plus you dont need root acsess to install an .apk. Anyway, can't you use the CWM installer from the Google Play store, then install the superuser zip from http://androidsu.com/superuser/ ?

Questions, about root.

I've been playing with the thought root or not root, but i'll need to know this few things before taking the final decision.
If i root 2.3.3, will i then still be able to get 2.3.4 and or 4.0 when it comes out, if se will support 4.0.
what does the 4.0.a features have that the 3.0.1.a doesn't have? and what is the difference.
And how easy 10/10 is it to update a rooted phone.
Thats all, i wanna know.
Search is your friend, but anyways...
Unless you have an unlocked/unlockable bootloader, you cannot root v2.3.3 directly.
Rooting doesn't affect updates as long as you don't remove any system files/apps.
e.g. Updating a rooted Rogers phone:
New features: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199597
There's practically no risk since you can always restore the phone to stock using the FlashTool or PC Companion.

I can not get way to root my play.

Assuming you have 4.0.2.A.368 STOCK, it MUST be stock, then go here and follow the instructions. I mean you could have found it yourself but I really dislike when people send others straight to the search bar. It's no help.

I know roughly what you are talking about. I know command prompt, although I never used fastboot, as I only owned X10 (until I dropped it and USB port snapped ), so never had to/wanted to unlock bootloader this way. But I want to learn, that's why I am reading all this now, and I need to ask about something I am not sure of.
Just go through the unlock bootloader process and then you will know what fastboot is
After that just type my comamnd with my file in the same directory and you will be done.
Regards
If I were you I would wait till I get ICS on the phone then unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
Quick question. It just wonders me. Sony "supports" unlocking bootloader, which is more dangerous than root. Why rooting is not supported then? Is it because we could unistall third party aplications and Sony has some sort of agreements with them and are obligated by law?

No you are getting the idea wrong
Long ago we discussed alot with SonyEricsson and together decided this is the best way of doing it.
The reason is simple:
Rooting alone does not give you access to all partitions etc. pp See X10 Forums for that. Sony is very good in hiding partitions
With a bootloader unlock we get fully workable fastboot. We are able to write all partitions and change what we want. (Root too)
Also Sony(Ericsson) is able to track who unlocks and who not AND is able to provide a check mechanism to forbid unlocking of phones which are not owned by the user (for example provider branded phones in contract, the phone is usually property of the provider).
So this is the reason. Unlocked bootloader gives us nearly full access, so no need to worry I am in this game since X10 times (like you or not ?)and we always got the phones working like we wanted.
Our work for CM9 on XPS has started now too.

See, I was not aware of that "agreement". Now everything seems to make sense. I am android user since I bought X10 back in August 2010. I was more or less following XDA since then as well, but this forum is worldwide community and is almost imposible to keep a track on everything. I would consider myself somewhere between rookie and advanced users. I know how to do certain things (root, how to use ADB, I was changing framwork_res.apk for my own purposes, etc.). My point also is, I am more hardware sort of guy, rather than software. That's why I am glad you guys are here with us.
Will this wipe the phone data or only the system partition ?

Well no. But the first step is that you need to unlock bootloader and THIS WILL wipe your data. To flash the systempartition itself will not wipe userdata.

So you restored with Titanium. Since Titanium is a Root app and you don't had Root before i think you are trying to restore a backup from another phone.
If you do that you have to assure that you ONLY RESTORE APPS and NOT SETTINGS! Settings from another phone will be most likely incompatible.
So this wil be your problem!

you cant do root here easy way because HTC doesnt wont us to do so. ... thats all and simple as that. with another brands like samsung is the process short and easy. blaim HTC ...
android is open source... ICS 4.0.3 its not the problem at all!
If you really want root follow the tutorial at htcdev.com to unlock your bootloader and then follow one of the tutorials on how to install a custom rom (those are basically always rooted)... I'd wait for an S-OFF though.
Some pretty useful guides in Development section...
I found them fairly straight forward with no hi-cups along the way.
Always prefer a challenge over a click of a button

Not sure what you're on but you can't root a Samsung phone from inside Android without using an exploit which is exactly the same as HTC and what the OP was asking for. You need to restart the Samsung and put it into the bootloader same as on a HTC.

Not if you use HTCdev to unlock your bootloader, they keep a log of your device, regardless if you re-lock it.
They'll still replace your device if it's a hardware problem though.

As long as you revert back to stock rom and flash stock recovery you should be fine. Don't see the need to relock as it'll just show unlocked what signs will we have that we've flashed a custom firmware? On SGS devices we had a count number but using a jig we could wipe this back to zero and return to complete stock.

The root procedure is here: http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
It comes from a Chinese source but don't be intimidated if you can't read everything. When you download it, if offers everything in English. It's really simple, a lot like the 'One Click Root' from past versions of Android.
