Wow! Charged it, used for a few hours, then it just turned off by itself while I was browsing the marketplace and I'm not able to turn it back on... wtf!
It doesn't like you.
In all seriousness though, keep us updated on how you recover it if you do.

I let my battery drain all the way today until it shut off watching netflix and used my HTC charger and couldnt turn it on for 2 hours.
I tell u what, take the battery out,
put it back in, use the wall charger not USB from PC.
For at least 15-20 mins.
This should do the trick.
Thnx.

Someone be sure to donate to that guy... perhaps a clue would be appropriate
I should also ammend my earlier statement with the fact that the battery drain was intentional. It hadnt been on a charger for 24 hours. I made a few phone calls (maybe an hour total). Left Wifi and bluetooth on. Both were connected the entire time save the drive home (15 mins) on the wifi. I played plants v zombies for 2 1/2 hours over the course of 3 "game sessions". Finally at 20% I was able to watch all but the last 10 minutes of the expenables via netflix before it died.
Most impressive windows phone/mobile battery I have ever owned.

Theres a thread on button controls further down the list, but here they are again.
Press and hold the power button for ~8-10 seconds, forces a power off. You can then restart the phone like normal.
From Power OFF, Press and hold Vol Down + Camera, and touch the power button until the phone vibrates and release the power button. Continue to hold the Vol Down+Camera button until the screen comes on, will Factory reset the device.
or, you can read it yourself here on the Nokia site.

I tried to flash the EpicTouchAOSPMod, but after rebooting the phone would hang on the boot screen. I was able to enter download mode but could not enter recovery mode by holding volume up and power. Now the battery has drained, and when I plug it in, I get the empty battery symbol with no animation indicating the phone is charging. Power button doesn't do anything, even when the phone is plugged in, it stays at the empty battery screen. Is my phone bricked or is there something I can do?
How long has it been plugged in? If more than an hour and still no boot. My friend I'm at a loss. I have never heard of this. Also plz link what AOSP mod you flashed.

Try holding down just the power button while plugged in.
Try buying another battery or an external charger

Bah! Grab the pitchforks and torches!
Ok, so heres the deal. The s2 is my sisters phone, and she comes home and told me the phone wont turn on, that its stuck on the boot screen and it just keeps turning off and doing it again. So I started looking into it (Im an iPhone user, so I'm not too familiar with android devices. BUT I do know a bit about computers, cell phones and just technology in general). I ended up finding out that its stuck in a soft brick. So I started youtubing how to fix it. Found a great method using Odin3 and Samsung Kies. AND IT WORKED. I turned the phone back on, got past the lock screen and everything was all good.
After about 30 seconds, THE PHONE BRICKED AGAIN. And it went right back into the boot loop, I cant get it into download mode because it just keeps restarting after a couple of seconds. With that happening, I cant get the computer to recognize it so I can do a recovery fix with Samsung Kies. I legit cannot find any solution to it.
The thing that baffles me and is causing me a huge headache is the fact that THE PHONE IS NOT ROOTED. nothing has been done to it, its completely stock. So if there is no solution to it, can somebody at least tell me what might have been able to cause this?
Thanks to all,
Dariel

I doubt its a corrupt OS, because like I said in my original post; my sisters phone is completely stock. No custom rom, no root. Nothing. So I'm leaning more towards the bad power button situation.

i only had th phone for about 2 months.... think you might be right...
it sounds like a bad power button
Like its been posted before, it sounds like you have a bad (or stuck) power button. OK try this (it might or might not work) take off the battery, and with your finger start rubbing the power button from side to side (take in consideration not to do it too hard, you don't want to hulk rub the phone to death). while you rub the button make sure to hear the click click every time you go over it. after that connect the battery and see if it boots. it worked for me. granted sometimes the problem comes back, so in all honesty this AINT a fix, its more of a workaround. but who knows it might work for you as well. Best of luck.

so i think these issues are different from OP. Though i can say, i did have the same issues you were describing.. im now happily on CM10 nightlies.. much faster and stable than the Darkside ICS rom!
Well I can verify that removing the power button from the mobo works brilliantly. No more boot loop on the t989 and nexus s. Only the middle and left or right side of the contacts need to be jumped to power it on. Remember it takes 10 seconds of holding a jumper there. Now where to find replacement buttons?
Hopes this helps guys.:good:
Alex K.
UbreakIfix technician.....
I think its a power button assembly problem. At first it would happen intermittently and it would go away till, no matter what I did, the phone would behave as if the power button was being pressed and not let go. It would happen more often when the phone would get moist due to rainy or humid conditions. So I opened up the phone, took the motherboard out and used a blow dryer on the power button area for about a minute, let it cool down and then reassemble (also blew some air in there just in case dust was causing the problem as well). The phone did not boot/reloop for a week. Then it started again, and I thought that maybe my case (d30 case) pushing on the power button really tightly all the time wasn't helping so, I cut away the are near the power button on my case and the problem has not come back in two weeks.
To Sum up....
Possible causes
-Tight cases pressing on the power buttons (Get a case that doesnt fit so tight on the phone, dont use one, or cut the power button area away from the case)
-Power button too sensitive to humidity and dust ( (disassemble , clean and heat the area up)
goood luck, my friend had the same problem before he traded it in to get an s3
I don't know if this was posted but I couldn't find it so...
My friends gave me his one x to fix it because he was playing gang star Rio and suddenly the device was off because of low battery and when he charged the phone couldn't charge only sometimes it blinks red
And the device can't turn on by any button mix ..
So I fixed it by holding the power button and connecting the charger while holding and that's it ...
I don't know if it will work for u I just thought I would share this

Reboot: press the power button (10sec)until the bottom buttons start to flash (4times)
recovery: press power + vol down

Good question, the computer was muted But it shows up in device manager as unknown device, and when holding power button for ~10 sec, it changes to apx device. And I can't update the driver.
Any idea of how much they charge. Screen is cracked also, so maybe it's cheaper to buy a new!?

No, led never lights up. Hmm.. read a bit about the j-tag, and seems like there's nowhere to get it done here in Denmark. And international charging is pricy.

Jumping in this discussions since i have the same problem..... HTC one X not powering on, no sings of charging, and the PC will detect only as something being pluged but you can not do anything as it shows Device Unknown.... "failed to install driver"
Is this a software issue ?? - bootloader or something like that or
hardware issue - something has to be replaced ??
P.S. holding down power + volume down for many seconds will not react, or leave it on the wall charger for more than 5 hours will not change anything..
any ideas.... ( mine broke while i did factory reset, ---- )
So I updated my phone from CM10.1.0 to CM10.1.2 today. I used the updating feature found in settings.
Everything seemed to go well, the rom updated, phone rebooted, and 140 or so apps updated. Got to home screen and everything works fine. About 5 mins later the phone shuts down. I turn my phone on again, 1 app updates, and I get the home screen. I checked my email and such and put my phone in my pocket. About 5 mins later I notice my phone has turned off again, cept this time now it won't come back on :/
I've searched google and some people point to the battery being the culprit.
http://www.sebertech.com/2013/03/sam...-problems.html Issue #16
and
http://forums.androidcentral.com/spr...turn-help.html
Both say to remove battery, plug the phone in, watch for the charging light to come on, then reinsert the battery. This doesnt work either.
If I take my battery out and plug in the charger, the charging light does come on. If I hold the power button down in this state after a few seconds the light will turn off until I release the power button. With the light on and after reinserting the battery the light goes back out after a few seconds. I just went and got a new battery, but thats not working either :/ I havent been able to boot into recovery mode or download mode.
If the update bricked my phone would it turn on and work just fine before dying? I used a data connection just fine after the update.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
0.e pages not found, derp.
The rom shouldn't be an issue at all because CMTeam... Why would they do such a thing.
When you updated from 1.0 to 1.2 did you:
Wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache before you updated.
reset permissions via Custom Recovery after update?
I saw a few people with S3's that went through exactly the same problem but it turns out the phone's main-board was fried because of a corrupted NAND right after a flash.
If there's no haptic feedback or led when you try to turn on the phone ( With a battery ), it's a possible brick but its not super-bricked.
If you put a usb / charger on the phone with no battery in it and it indicates a red LED. There is a possible 50/50 you can restore it but
it'll cost around some 40-60 bucks for having it JTAGGED.
If there is no LED when the phone's plugged to a charger wall port / USB via computer with no battery.
It is completely dead and you'd wanna send that in to get a brand new phone.
It just looks like you need it JTAG Repaired.
Hopefully others would have a better and possible way of finding what happened. Because mines would be a last resort
type of thing and its the only thing I know when the SIII Bricks after completely doing a clean flash or if the phone ends up dying
for no reason after a flash.

The rom shouldn't be an issue at all because CMTeam... Why would they do such a thing.
When you updated from 1.0 to 1.2 did you:
Wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache before you updated.
reset permissions via Custom Recovery after update?

I used the method provided by CM found in settings -> phone info, like I have many many many times. I dont remember the full process, but I dont think those options are provided in that method, just download the rom then click update.

You claim it booted up after the flash and everything worked, so it can't be that you flashed a cm rom for a different device. It doesn't even attempt the boot splash?
Have you tried putting the battery in and plugging the charger for several hours? Could just be a bad usb port and or bad charger cable and your device simply is out of power. Find a different cable or charger all together and try see if anyone has a similar phone that you can try their battery in your phone.

Yeh, the fact that it started fine twice is what is baffling me. Though it did turn itself off after a few mins both times.
Yeh, I plugged the charger in overnight last night just in case. I took it to the sprint store where the guy took out my battery and tested it, he said it was bad and that was the issue. As of now I've tried 4 different batteries. My own, a new one I bought and fully charged and 2 borrowed from people at work.
That's really weird.... And none of the led come on at all? Really weird, it's not a brick issue because it would give some symptoms but it's like it's not getting power at all. It could just be a major hardware failure. The power button is defective on the S3 but it usually makes an attempt to turn on.

If I take my battery out and plug in the charger, the charging light does come on. If I hold the power button down in this state after a few seconds the light will turn off until I release the power button. With the light on and after reinserting the battery the light goes back out after a few seconds.
It really sounds like it flashed an International rom from those symptoms. But you said it turned on after the flash.

It flashed whatever rom was downloaded from the phone info screen. But yeh, it booted up, updated apps, and made it to the home screen after the update.
Sorry wish I could be more insightful, but I think your going to have to take it in to Sprint

Could it be that CM might have messed somthing up? I would ask them for help or tell them to look in to things.

I've posted in the CM10.1 thread, I'm not sure if Ive heard anything from anyone on the CM team though. I guess it's possible they messed something up, but I havent seen anyone else with this issue and CM, so I'm guessing the issue is on my end.
I would let the phone sit on the charger and try to boot into recovery and try to flash a tw rom. If you haven't tried that already its worth a shot.

It's doesn't power up at all regardless of how long it charges, he tried different batteries and bought a new one also. How would he be able to flash or even get into recovery if it doesn't power on?

Oh yeah forget it. It's not a power issue it's bricked. That's exactly what they say when they are bricked by flashing international roms. Jtag is your only option.
Try this can't hurt, this guy claims he revived a phone which was hard bricked. The method has not been confirmed but you have nothing to loose http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43305728

Can someone help? I have had my brand new ATT version for the past two days which I rooted but still on stock 4.4.4. This morning, I was trying to get the "auto hide soft keys" app to work (had already been using it). The screen went blank and nothing seems to work, only the notification LED stays green; I had charged it full before.
I have tried soft boot and hard reset using keys, but nothing is working Has it happened to anyone?
Thank you in advance...

Have you tried holding the power and volume up keys at the same time for about 15+ seconds? There have been a few times that I soft bricked my HTC devices and I had to hold the power and volume up for a couple of minutes ?

That's the first thing that I tried, actually a few times! It still has that green LED on, but nothing else comes on. When I connect it to the PC and try to use the htc toolkit to put it in fastboot mode, it says no device attached. Did I just blow my $400 up in air? Someone please help!

Trust me I have been in your shoes many many times and only had to return a phone once. When you plug the phone in to a computer does your computer make any noise saying that "something" has been plugged in?

Thank you for your assurance! All it says that is finding the driver for the device and ends up with the message that "not installed properly" I'm kicking myself for switching from Samsung and OPO to htc which I haven't had for these same reasons, hardware defects that is...

Whoa whoa whoa.... Let's not go that far I have had dozens of HTC devices since they first changed their name to HTC ?. I have also had a few Samsung and lg phones in there too and I have to say the openness of the phone is so much better than some other companies... Maybe not as good as oppo though but I would say that hardware is better. Anyways.... The fact that it is recognizing a device is a good thing! But I cannot help past that for the very moment. I will read around and try to find the link that has helped me in the past!

Don't get me wrong, I've had HTC devices before the last one being Evo 3D. All I'm saying is Samsung and Oneplus One have been relatively flawless and easy to tweak. I got this phone for the selfie with flash, water resistance and stereo speakers, none of which I'm able to use at the moment I appreciate your help a lot!

When you read this, I tried the suggestion from the above link and even held both buttons down for as long as 3 min, the stupid thing is still dead, except the green LED!
Good news! When I reread your first response stating that you had to hold the vol up and power button, it worked! Thanks a lot man!

Still on stock; there is not much interest from the developers in this device, kinda sad. BTW, I had to do the vol up and power thing again since it froze up! What do you think is causing it, an app or what?

Please tell me what exactly you have done.... If you have only rooted, we're you trying to install and run that same app as when it screwed things up last time?
