Hi XDA'ers.
I know that this is a topic that is a matter of opinion, but here goes anyways. My GF is pretty annoyed with her Wildfire S, due to it slowness and lack of storage.
So what i am looking for is a fast HTC Sense 2.3.5 ROM with Apps2SD(ext) support, which is stable?
Is there any custom Kernel that is worth trying in terms of stability?
Which one would you recommend as a daily driver for a Wildfire S?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards

i think the best rom would be m1ndh4x8r GB2.3.5 for most people. For me i didnt really like that rom but i now use the HTC Thing rom which is pretty stable and can overclock to 825mhz. There are very minor bugs at times but shouldnt be much of a problem. BTW for the Thing rom i dont like the final version, so i use the version before it.
Those two roms are really facts cuz they have the supercharger scripts.
If you dont like those two Hensemod is also a good sense rom thats really stable too.
hey mads! (it's bene )
i would suggest cm7.2 by alquez and link2sd instead of apps2sd and a higher class sd card if you don't have it already.
and eoghan's kernel fits the rom really well and is pretty stable.

in my opinion i like cm7 better but didnt he ask for sense rom?
oh god, i completely missed that part, i'm sorry.
well in that case, if the person who's gonna use the phone isn't really tech savvy and already used to stock rom, i'd just root the device, remove some of the system apps that are not used, and use link2sd for the space problem.
if i was going for a custom sense rom, i'd go for .sense by benjamin.

is .sense fast and have enough internal storage without link2sd or data2sd?
Hi Bene Long time, are you doing well?
Yeah would definetly use CyanogenMod if it was my phone, but my GF is happy with sense, just not the internal storage of the phone, so therefore i'm looking for a stable sense rom.
Will give .sense and HTC Thing a spin later today then Thanks for the recommendations, hopefully one of them will work out
How is battery life with OC compared to stock clock? Do you underclock with screen of, and what govenor do you use?
Are you running stock HTC kernel or is there any kernel worth trying?

Hi guys.
So this is what i ended up with HenseMod6
This was the ROM that was most like stock, debloated and stable it seems. Had to make titanium backup of HTC widget to import to ROM, but otherwise not any issues so far.
Seems stable and fast, the misses seems to like it
My take on the other ROM's i tired.
HTC Thing's - Seemed to run stable, but didn't like the custom theme, and annoying boot sound.
.sense - download link not working :-(
m1ndh4x8r - Didn't run stable. Would always crash if CPU was running at max clock, even at stock frequence :-(
Phone is now running at 768/200/Smartassv2 with 1 GB apps2sd partition, with no problem

I want to try to determine what is the best rom 2.09 Froyo - based for HTC Desire.
In the last week I've tried a large number of ROMs. I've really liked 2 of these:
- Roufianos V6 (It's the one that I'm using at the moment)
- OpenDesire 3.0.4 (I know that the 3.0.5 is out but I haven't tried it yet)
Obviously there are many other excellent rom but I haven't got the time to try them, such as:
- Alex V1.1 official OTA cooked by Paul from MoDaCo (I've not tried it yet but I thing it is good)
- Lambros Custom Rom r3.1 --- I've tried it: in my opinion it's the best. Very fast, stable, no problem, no crashes. The chef always helps you and give you what you ask him! Fantastic! (link hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745447 )
- Pays-ROM
- Others....
Well, I don't know what is better.... can you help me choosing a ROM please?
If you thing that there are better ROMs instead of the ones that I've written, please tell me about them.
Thanks to all.

IMO this comes down to the "SENSE UI",
you wanna have SENSE and all the HTC bells and whistles? LeeDroid 1.8 or Neophyte NextSense 4.0
you don´t give a damn about SENSE (like me)? OpenDesire 3.0.5 is just AWESOME.
Both options are really good but it´s a question of personal preference I think.

has Leedroid gotten rid of the SD card bug now? i found a lot of bugs with 1.7 in fact i would go as far to say it was the worst rom i have tried (and i have flashed nearly all within the last 2 weeks.
i use neophyte nextsense aswell its v good. i haven't used a non-sense rom since the defrost one which was using the nexus froyo (back in june i think).
however from looking at the 'post your screenshots' thread in the themes and apps section i'm tempted to go back to non-sense as some of the roms and mods make it look really cool.

Neophyte 1.6. You will not go wrong. If you think those other roms are good, you will ejaculate in your pants with a neo Rom. I think that first neophyte Rom comes down to a fluke of nature. His latest Rom nextsense is good and I enjoy playing. But the occasional bug. Still better than anything else I believe.
I prefer modaco official version.
Neophyte 1.6 as said. You will not find a more stable or better ROM imo.
why don't you give a go on my rom....i saw you haven't mentioned it....
the latest r3.1 version is as stable a rom can be and i have 2 versions.....one if you want all the HTC apps and one with HTC Sense but without the apps, just launcher, widgets and main apps (people, dialer, mail, calendar)

What about the battery? How often do you have to charge the phone? In every rom I've tried the battery sucks!
as for the battery i think you can't compare it just right when you flash the rom....myself i do one full charging cycle and then rate a rom's battery life in order to get the full idea....
flash the rom, charge it till 100% (unplug before discharge) and then see how it does

hi lambrospower. I am just downloading your rom and will give it a try mate. Going back to your battery comment, this is a question that i have been thinking about for some time, but never got around to asking anyone, i hope you may know the answer for me? Since i have had my desire (3 months) the only way that i have ever charged it is with USB. Maybe once i have done a full charge with the 240v adaptor, the rest of the time it is plugged into my PC either charging or as a disk drive, my question is, will that make a difference to my overall battery performance? because i havent been charging it with the mains adaptor will my battery be "weaker" than a person that has always used the in-wall charger? I seem to get really bad battery life with most roms that i have tried (and believe me, i have tried a lot!!) yesterday i went out for a few hours, around 3 hours, battery was at 100% when i left, 3 hours later 55%!! now in my eyes that is a hell of a lot of decrease...... This was with NeYophyTeNexTSense rom (but i cant fault NeYo, he is a good chef, hats off to the lad, this is why i think its me thats either doing something wrong (settings) or it is in fact a battery problem??
Hi guys, I really like OpenDesire, but it's stock Google ROM (or based thereon) so it's got no FM Radio functionality. A question to all users of stock ROMs: how do you guys cope with the absence of an FM Radio knowing that hardware-wise your Desire supports it but the software does not have it? As for me personally, I've been tilting back and forth between OpenDesire-like ROMs and SenseUI-like ROMs, and it's still bugs me. On the one hand, I love the stock ROM for its cleanliness and overall looks (without Sense bells & whistles), but that I don't have the FM radio keeps bugging me like hell. Can anyone share their experiences?
I am looking for a stable 2.2 or 2.2.1 rom for my wifes g2. I have glanced at the development forum and it seems gingerbread is all the rage right now. My wife just needs a solid, dependable, daily driver. I just want to flash something for her that works and be done with it. The stock rom seems to have some bloat and I am hoping for better battery life as well.
What is the most popular rom at the moment? I rooted her phone (permanent s-off) so I am ready to go. Thanks in advance!
I would honestly suggest cm7. Or for the best sense rom, virtuous. You could just remove the bloat with Titanium backup from the stock rom.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the info. I will probably give virtuous a try.
Highly recommend virtuous' froyo offering until the dev releases the gingerbread version. I've been using it since I got my DZ and it's simply amazing how stable and fast it really is.
I actually flashed Virtuous this morning to see if it was any good and all I can say is it was laggy as a shaggy sheep. I flashed the whole thing through rom manager and did a full wipe so I don't know what the hell but it was insanely laggy. You could hit a button and wait well over a second for a response. Maybe I needed to flash a new kernel? Maybe I needed to run the update from .0 to .1? Who knows?! I found it aesthetically pleasing but that is about it. (Maybe it is because I have a g2 and it is for desire z?)
For stable daily drivers I've been using Cm6.1.1 for nearly a month. I found Cm7RC4 to have to many niggling issues like my camera locking up the phone every couple times I tried to use it. Let alone needing to use gps.
I hear good things about miui but I cannot speak from experience.
I've been using CM7 RC2 for a couple of weeks now without issue. It has been stable, improved battery life and performance.
I'd also suggest CM7. I've been using that ever since i rooted my phone, and havent had any problems with it so far.

I have never flashed a rom through rom manager. Only really used it to get CWM installed. I prefer to get a rom going the old fashioned way and flash through recovery. Did a full wipe of data, battery, davlik then installed the rom on day one and has been running flawless ever since.
While CM7 is working good its not 100% stable yet. There are random reboots and freezes. I would say the most stable ROM at the moment is CM6.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841275 It's not Gingerbread but still everything works and there are no problems to report.

Keep in mind that CyanogenMod is designed specifically to be *fast*. Virtuous is simply a port of the HTC Sense ROM. Also, keep in mind that Virtuous comes 'out of the box' with the regular HTC kernel - 800MHz, no changes. There are 2 additional kernels available: Standard - OC'd to 1GHz (highest you can go without changing voltage) and a built-in screen off profile. Does not support SetCPU or anything. Advanced is a full-blown open kernel - you can setup your own profiles, overclock (I think to 1.5GHz or so). I personally run Advanced to 1.2GHz with some other profiles, but if it was my wife's phone, I'd toss the Standard kernel in there and call it a day.
Also, Sense *does* add some bloat (it's an entirely new UI), but it's totally worth it, IMO (especially for a girl's phone). The improved visuals, extra features, etc make it totally worth it. If you're doing that much, go ahead and setup LauncherPro instead of the stock Sense launcher and she'll be rocking and rolling.
This is very helpful info everyone. I now have to decide between cm 6.1 and virtuous. Sounds like both of these roms are the set it and forget it variety which is what I was looking for. She is not a flashaholic like myself so one stable rom is all I need.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

See that is the thing, I don't like the fact that I will have to overclock my phone to make Virtuous "run good". That is pretty damn silly in fact. I mean they package the kernel for stock speeds since it is based on the DZ stock rom. What about all those desireZ owners? They surely don't have to overclock to make their phones run without any lag. Why not package a kernel that is capable of overclocking to a reasonable speed out of the box like any one of the cyanogen releases?
I feel this is a tremendous oversight on the ROM developers part. I would love to rock their rom and get a good feel for Sense UI so all the people who come to me for advice on tech related matters can have my unbiased opinion on the UI, not what I had to go through to make it run without any lag. That is some Grade A bull****.
I suppose it would be less bull**** if I knew how to flash a kernel.
You flash it the same as a Rom except no wipe and it takes about 30 seconds. Also virtuous used to come stock with overclock but took many people were having issues with it. As in they don't know how to set up proper profiles with a setcpu type program. So the overlook kernels became an extra add-on for more advanced users.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Virtuous is good with overclock. I found the untouched gingerbread sense ruu that rmk prepared to be a lot smoother. Bluetooth was a bit hit and miss though.
I'm on the saga ginger sense rom right now and no issues at all. Had to tweak some aesthetic things like font, but it's good.
Still haven't found a rom on the dz as good as Super D was on the G1 yet...

Funny thing, I think the first 20 or so minutes on a new rom may not be representative. I flashed my wife's mt3g slide using the stock update, and it lagged BADLY for the first 20 min. Including a battery pull because the phone app (com.android.phone) went non responsive. Just my $0.02.

This rom gives you plenty of options, is as stable as CM6.1 or more stable. Runs faster.
I do think it scores somewhat slower on the benchmarks, however in this users opinion it is much faster in scrolling, loading, and general usage.
You will have to google to find it, but give it a try. You can have lots of the sense elements or disable them if you want a more plan vanilla experience.
Also I did very much like cm6.1
Cm7 is coming along but still working out many bugs... see the changelog. Many will say this is stable enough for daily use.
I used to use virtuous, have since moved on to gingerbread ROMs though. When I was using virtuous it was brilliant. Fast and stable. It was not laggy like another user said. I used CWM recovery to flash it and did a full data/cache wipe beforehand and you should do whenever you change ROMs. Another vote for senses ease of use and virtuous' reliability!

I use RCMixSCM7/A2SD v2 ROM's by Robocik (the CM7 test3 version is sense 3.0)
or you can try InsertCoin CM7/A2SD v47 by baadnewz
I heard that this one is also pretty fast. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113070
You can try the roms by yourself and then decide which one is the best . Everyone is different and therefore has everyone a different taste .
I'm using InsertCoin cm7 1.08 on my HTC Desire and it works great. Gingerbread plus Sense 3.0 widgets etc
Only flashed my Desire once, but I would imagine once you've done it you can play around with it and flashing it with a diff ROM should be easier/less hoops to jump through.
I'm still using froyo, with gb, I always not enuf space for apps

Its a sense 2.1 & 3.0 hybrid and seems good so far. The reason I went for this over the other choices is that it only requires a 512mb ext3 partition where as the others require a 1gb ext3. If you used ROM manager to partition your sd card you'll probably have a 512mb partition
i dont like the sense roms much, but i fin redux to be a great rom!

There's one version for the CM7 HBOOT and one for the stock hboot, so you can choose the one suitable to your setup.
I'd definitely recommend it but like Balu said, everyone's got different taste.

The reason you are mocked is that you asked the equivalent of the question "What is the best car ?". It depends a lot on your own preference and what are you looking for. I see that you are from the States. Do you have a CDMA Desire ?
Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to why Sense 3.5 ROMs tend to lag so much? I've tried practically every one from Virtuous Affinity, to RCMix 3D to RunnyMead. By far, I got the smoothest experience from the latter. I tried everything to try to improve performance from removing unnecessary system apps like HTC Watch, to using Supercharger script, to a sd-ext on my SD card. Yet I can never seem to escape lag! Now I'm using a Sense 3.0 rom, that is, Virtuous Unity and it's so much faster and smoother despite its using up a similar amount of space. I really like the 3.5 ROMs but I just can't use them because they're too slow and laggy despite my best efforts to speed them up...
I could be wrong but the sense 3.5 is a port from another phone that may be why. To be honest I dislike sense with a passion. I'm an AOSP type of guy. I'm pretty sure that the developers working on that rom will make it faster. Btw you mentioned your using sdext which one are you using?

I could be wrong but the sense 3.5 is a port from another phone that may be why. To be honest I dislike sense with a passion. I'm an AOSP type of guy. I'm pretty sure that the developers working on that rom will make it faster. Btw you mentioned your using sdext which one are you using?

Yeah I tried AOSP but I only like Ice Cream Sandwich, which still isn't working fully at the moment. I'm using a 128mb sd ext4 with a 256 swap partition.
You call Virtuous Unity fast? I used it for 2 months and easily can say that it is the laggiest thing I have ever seen, but these kind of things are relative... Have you tried MikRunny or BeatMod BlissSense Hybird? I am using BlissSense now and so happy with it, even without swap or supercharger, it doesn't lag, and also Bliss rosie looks really classy

Yeah I take my statement regarding unity back cos after one day of use, it just kept getting slower and slower... yeah I'm using BlissDroid now, the new one by alirez_sos! So fast, stable and smooth!

Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to why Sense 3.5 ROMs tend to lag so much?

OP hasn't criticized the Devs, just asking the technical or specific reason that Sense 3.X ROMs lag in comparison to older versions of Sense.
To some extent, I'm wondering the same thing. Its always said that Sense 3.X takes up more memory than the G2/DZ has to offer. But what exactly is taking up all the memory? For instance, on NRG's RCMix Energized Blue version, he has made for a smooth rosie experience, yet the phone often lags for several seconds when starting apps or going into Settings. Rosie is not the issue alone, since I use ADW as my launcher, and yet the Sense 3.X ROMs still lag.
Hybrid ROMs like Synergy and InsertCoin bring many of the Sense 3.X apps to Sense 2.x (lockscreen, camera, weather and more), and yet those ROMs are much more responsive than Sense 3.x ROMs. So it doesn't seem to be the apps themselves.
If its some component of the Sense framework sucking up memory, has anybody identified what and why, or if it can be removed or modded?

I hope you do realize that size of sdext is a reason why your phone is running so slow

Excuse me, I'm far from ungrateful! I've tried various different ROMs and have offered my feedback on them to the developers so they'll have an idea on which areas to improve. I think the work that has been done has been fantastic such as the recent addition of Ice Cream Sandwich, which will I believe be glitch free. I was merely asking why some Sense 3.0 ROMs tend to be laggy and what have other people's experiences been of them.

1gb, I don't know why they recommended the smallest possible size which causes your phone to run so slow. All of my roms use sdext and I always recommend at least 1gb

I say go aosp its faster then both and you'll have a smoother experience. I'm an aosp guy not sense but stability wise go 3.0
Sense roms take time to break in, especially on the G2.

I use 512mb. Works for me on sense roms. I gave up 3.0 sense cause of the lag. I guess because of the amount of resources it drains there's a performance hit. It became to much of a hassle. My opinion. Still sexy ass rom lol

What is the best stable custom rom for wildfire s ?
CM9 or CM7 or anything ??
its relative, depend the device.
Sent from MARVEL
CM 7 is the most stable non-sense ROM till now. CM9 has some bugs , if u can survive wth them , you can use it. For sense rom personally i like Wildchild.

no way! cyanogenmods are sense-less, if you want sense interface you must use a sense rom.
can try a non-sense customizable rom with a sense theme, but it's not a good choice imho..
Cryptomilk CM9
Just trying out ....
cm-9.0.0-RC0-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA3-UNOFFICIAL-marvel
This seems pretty nifty, no issues as yet, and looks really good too with lots of control tweaks with the Trebuchet app.
cheers

My WildChild WOM wasts a weally wong time.
With moderate to heavy usage (phone, browsing, streaming, Market, etc.) I get a good 24hrs on it. Usually more.
If your main concern is battery life, set your CPU min/max to 600/600Mhz using the Performance governor. Use noop as the scheduler. Your phone will last a long time and still be peppy (but not overclocked).
