I've got the AT&T gel case which protects the rest of the phone nicely.
Now I'm looking for the best screen protector for the 900. I'm getting tired of the finger prints!
What's everybody using for a screen protector?
I'm leaning towards the Zagg (screen coverage only) but I'm open to better options if they're out there.
I bought the Zagg Dry for my Lumia and really like the front cover. It does a good job of staying nearly invisible and still protecting the screen. The back cover however is different. It has a rough texture and honestly, if I hadnt paid for it I would take it off. It just ruins the look of the matte finish. But I dont have a case yet so I think I will leave it on for now
I have two zaggs and I REALLY don't like the orange peel effect but the finger streaks are far better than the PET type plastic that use static adhesion to stay on.

What's the orange peel effect ?
Zagg screen covers are not completely smooth. The screen cover has a slight "orange peel" texture to it that some people despise. You cant feel this texture but it is visible in the right light. I dont think its a big deal but to each his own.

"Orange peel effect" as seen on this Skinomi TechSkin, which is analagous to the Zagg (Zagg is allegedly uglier):

No "orange peel effect" on Brando UltraClear:
Unfortunately, it looks like Brando hasn't put up an UltraClear for the Nokia Lumia 900 yet.
When I got the UltraClear, as seen on the Focus S above, they didn't have one for the Focus S. Instead, I got one for the Galaxy S II, and cut off a bit around the edges because apparently the Galaxy S II, with the same screen size has a bigger bezel. Worked like a charm.
Not sure what you can do with Lumia 900 though.
tldr: the Brando UltraClear is by far the best screen protector I've owned, you might want to wait until they stock them (on brando.com) for the Lumia 900, but if you can't wait, then there are a number of ways you can cut other screen protectors to fit.
The other thing I don't like about Zagg type protectors is the finger adhesion is greater than the PET type.
I might give the brando a shot if they get one.
Right now I am just using a PET type I ordered from Amazon the same day I pre-ordered the phone.
Edit: Now that I have looked up brando and see its a "PET" type protector then I have to say my favorite of all time in those types are from Clarivue.com but they dont have the 900 up yet either.
Edit: Just heard back from Clarivue and they say ETA is next friday.

I have the Zagg protector on my Kindle Fire. While it is noticeable in the right light, it looks absolutely nothing like your Skinomi. I just tried to capture it in numerous different lighting scenarios, and I was unable to capture a picture of the orange peel effect at all. That Skinomi looks absolutely horrible...
Edit: Finally got it. Had to take a pic with heavy light directly on the bezel of the screen to see it in the picture. First pic is without direct light. You can't even see the orange peel.
Second pic shows slight orange peel.
Ya I would say the orange peel effect on the Skinomi is on the extreme side. Its nothing like that on my device. It looks clear at almost all angles but just a few in the right light. The kindle is a more accurate representation I feel.
I used to use PhanomSkinz on my Palm Pre and never had a orange skin effect compared to when I used the Zagg skin. I haven't seen them release a PhantomSkinz for the Nokia Lumia 900 yet though.
I ordered the Skinomi - Screen Only for $0.99 on Amazon.

They put a Moshi iVisor on at the AT&T store when I picked up my L900. Matte finish and does not show a single fingerprint. I have wiped it lightly once since last Friday and been using the phone constantly.

Does it effect color quality that much? I read on the wpcentral forum one person who said the Moshi iVisor took away from the deep black and rich colors.....but that's to be expected somewhat.

Its ass. It's a great protector, resists finger prints, and is reusable. But it's ass when it comes to quality lol. The second a true clear one comes out, I'm switching. It makes the phone unreadable in the sunlight... Which is one of it's selling points -.-

I highly recommend realook screen protectors. Their sold on amazon and ebay. I have used them since the focus and I must say you can never tell they are there, truly ultra clear. they only cost $11.99 and bring two. I have one on now and it fits perfect. They do show some wear after 4-5 months but non the less they are a great investment.

Hard to read you post, but...., I put the Moshi on a fwe minutes after taking it out of the box, so hard to do a comparison regarding color richness and blackness. Looks bright and black to me. Don't think the protector takes anything away from this beautiful screen.
I like the matte feel of the protector. And it "does" hide fingerprints, really well. Regarding sunlight, can't say if the protector reduces any of that clarity, but I can use my phone in direct sunlight. First time I have been able to say that with any smartphone or PDA.
I'm hoping for SGP to release a screen protector. I have used all of their products on my iPhones all the way from the first generation and they look great.
I'm hoping Lumia owners will contact them and show a demand for them to start making it.
Does the Lumia 900 have gorilla glass or something similar?
If so, I'd just carry around a microfiber cloth.

I cant find any. its probably just because of the phones newness i guess, but there is a shortage of cheap accessories on eBay... lol but patience is a virtue...
DO NOT use matte protector, it makes the SAMOLED look like 1970s B&W TV with no signal, I tried it on my vibrant and on the new sgs-II with same results. Anyways if you want one then its available here:

hmmmm never heard this before.... this is not good. thanks for the heads up. i was deff gonna buy one. how did it do against finger prints?
It does reduce the fingerprints as compared to glossy one but at a cost of looking at horribly pixelated screen with rainbow effect which is much noticeable in solid colors or backgrounds. You'd wish they worked as well as matte screens on laptop.

I used to have a matte screen protector on my HD2. Gave me headaches from the rainbow oil-slick effect.
Yep, the other members are correct. I had one on the S2 for about...two days because my OEM screen protector had gotten bent, and it was the worst move ever. Touch accuracy was a joke. The screen looked horrible. ~1980's tv
Yeah I hated my matte screen protector on my SGS4G. Made it look really pixilated like vicosphi said.

Unlike the typical screen protectors, the ones I got from XtremeGuard do not have 3 layers of plastic (meaning there's no protective layer covering the top of the screen protector itself, just the screen protector and the backing).
In addition, the sides of the screen protector do not stick to the screen. You get a bubbling effect all around the screen protector. This probably has something to do with the poor cutting of the film. You can see that they aren't well cut even before peeling and applying the screen protector. I haven't had this issue with other screen protectors, and yes, I've used many.
Maybe they sent me a bad batch but I'm only speaking from experience. I'm not talking about their other full body products, only the screen protector.
I still have around 4 or 5 of them lying around at home left over from testing if anyone wants pictures but that would have to wait until tonight.
Just got my phone today... ordered Realook Screen protector two days ago... I had it on my Samsung Vibrant.. one of the best! It gives the real glass feel and looks like nothing is there.... hope it give me the same result.
i ordered this cheepo matte one. when i get it i'll do a review of it.

i got a matte for my hp touchpad and i love how it makes the screen easier to use even though image is less crisp.
matte Screen protector
I tried a matte screen protector and am glad I finally got some regular ones. The matte one, does not look good on the phone. It is harder to read smaller words and does give the screen a much less defined look. One other big issue is my matte screen did not have the cutout for the front facing camera and every time I tried using the front facing camera, my face was all blurred out. One selling point to the matte screen is enhanced visibility in sunlight. I found out this is not true with the super AMOLED plus screen. The screen looks fantastic in sunlight with a regular screen protector, and dull looking with the matte screen. Hope this helps.

I purchased an xtreme guard on Ebay and the cutout was reversed. The sticky part was on the wrong side. The seller is sending me a replacement. hopefully it's correct this time. The cutout doesn't seem exact either. I'll report back when I get the new screen protector. I purchased a mirror finish one prior and I couldn't see **** in the daylight. Lol!

3 layers? That's the cheap crap. Why do you need to cover a scratchproof screen protector? How do you think they keep costs down? By not doing laying an unnecessary layer of film. Even the $30 ZAGG doesn't have a top protective layer.
In addition, you more than likely applied the film incorrectly.
Mine should be here anyday now. I'll post how to make it proper.
I don't work for Xtreme. I've just always used them since my LG Dare days.
I've worked in the wireless industry since 2005. I applied over 400 screen protectors in the past year.
I can say it's not for everyone. Especially the wet applications. I actually ordered one to prove you wrong.
I'll also do an iPhone 4 and Touchpad as well.

I didn't read the directions. I used a spray bottle. I didn't use the squeegee that came with it. I used another. The screen protectors work perfectly fine. Yes, it gets bubbles. But that's the concept. That's how all wet applications work. I did 3 today and they all settled / cured within hours. Be sure to take your time. I use an air duster. A little heat goes a long way and speeds up the process. I usually throw it in my pocket screen facing my leg.
If you get dust under there, you muffed up.
Some of the bubble will stay under there for 1-3 days. You can work them out. If you stretch the screen protector it will overlap and you will see it lift up. I left mine sit in the sunlight for a little and the bubble started working themselves out. Make sure you're doing it right first before telling everyone to avoid the company. Have a little more tact. I'm sure most of the others are probably better at simple things like applying screen protectors than you are.

Curious if you got yours yet and how its looking?
I always preferred the Matte ones because of the feel of them and the lack of finger prints.
Last week I found some screen protectors on ebay for the nexus that I thought I'd give a try. The deal was 10 for 6 dollars which is a pretty sweet deal I figured even if the plastic was somewhat cheap.
Well they came today, and I didnt apply any yet but they had the double sided stickers (like how SGP does their skins) and so I peeled back the front sticker and felt the plastic and it felt pretty thick, much like the the quality of SGP. Also, I noticed that they have an actual cut out around the camera which I thought was nice since it could be used as another reference point when applying the skin. And, on top of that the screen goes the whole side of the screen with no lip on the sides.
Here is the link if anybody is interested, I should be applying it later and supplying pics of it once I do.

No bubbles from it reaching the edge of the screen? I don't think I've heard of a dry application screen protector that actually reaches the edges of the screen without bubbling up or peeling near the edge do the curvature of the screen...
So after applying the skin this was how it turned out

I see what you mean by the peeling cause of the curvature and the shorter screens would pretty much stop where the peeling is actually happening lol, but I still like that is at the ends only to be honest, but it doesnt bother me so much. The pics make the peeling look a lot worse than it actually is I think.

Is the difference that bad? I really want an antiglare film for the Nexus... I actually really like matte screen protectors, especially after putting on so many matte power support protectors on iPhones.
I'm currently staring at my MB Air that has a glossy display with an antiglare matte screen protector I had put on perfectly
I just realized this is a super old thread but I'll post anyway.
(assuming you still use these screen protectors), does the matte one affect the colour at all? I used to have one on my Atrix, and it kind of dulled the colours and made whites a little rainbowy. But maybe I just chose the wrong manufacturer of $1 Hong Kong matte screen protectors
Yes it does, I had a Matte one, and within a minute, took it off. It looks absolutely terrible, worse than having an orange peel effect from wet apply screen protectors.

Looks like this protector comes up easily... I had a Skinomi (similar to Zagg) on my GNex. Only had 2 spot where my Driztronic case rubbed the protector causing it to come up. I'd love to keep the phone naked, but too worried if I ever dropped it on say... concrete.
I bought 3 clear protectors from the seller called wireless_toy_world and this is how it looks like under florescent light:
The top doesnt stick well and it is short at the bottom. I will try another seller and report back.
Let me know if you find a cheap and good one..

What? No, they don't. The cheap protectors (Usually dry applications) don't have any liquid or residue to use thus no ruining the screen. It's akin to static cling for some of these cheap protectors.

This is kind of short though. But the price is good.
I need a really good clear screen protector that isn't crap. Something that will last and I don't mind spending $20+ on it. Any suggestions?
I got the XO skin case fit. It's cut more around the edge so you can use a case with it and not have to worry about it peeling the skin. It's awesome so far. It doesn't have the orange peel effect like invisible shield which I used on my Incredible and Blackberrys back in the day. Gave the XO skin a try a just to see and it worked out great. If you use SPRINTXO as the promo code you get a discount. I did, but that was about a month ago. Could still work though. With the code it's like 14 bucks I think.
Thanks, I'll give it a try, but before I do I'd like to see what other people suggest, thanks for your suggestion though!

+1 for XO Skins. I use the regular one and it works with a case, it all depends on the case that you use. Even the regular goes from edge to edge except for the bottom, it leaves a small gap of uncovered space
Even though XO skins is really good, you might dislike the rubbery feeling of the screen protector. So far most screen protectors are either too short, has orange peels, thin, oil conductor, or rubbery. I don't think there is a dry application matte protector that covers the entire screen (will have somewhat of the edge peel effect, but cases like diztronics or otterbox should lip over it). I've ordered baselant couple days ago, and I'll see how that goes, and I've heard good things about martin fields, but they're really expensive.
The screen protector that comes with the otterbox commuter is clear and smooth for operation. No discoloration or orange peel effect like I had with the I shield on it. a good option if you don't already have a descent case.

Awesome, I just ordered that case last week lol. It's coming in the 2nd so I will see it then, does it cover the whole front or JUST the screen?
+1 For XO Skins as well. Mine fits great, has no orange peel. Here is their video if you missed it. It fills in scratches and hides smudges really well.
I am using SGP Ultra oleophobic dry protector and Diztronic v3 case and have been real happy with the setup.
I had used the Verizon clear dry protector and it's hard to wipe off oil and smudges.

Sadly, this is pretty much the state of the GNex screen protectors now. You really gotta ask yourself what you like to have and what you hate.
Dry (clear/matte) - large margin around the screen
Wet - slight rubbery
I went with wet (XO skin) because I don't use swype, so the slightly rubbery texture doesn't bother me at all but having a visible border of the dry protector does. And there's no orange peel effect like Zagg.
Just ordered some boxwave cleartouch screenprotectors yesterday. Will report back when they get here.
I have always use Zagg invisible shields for every phone and tablet I have had no no issues at all. The only phone it didn't look good on was the nexus one. I just went to Best Buy and got one for the Galaxy Nexus and applied it perfect. I hope that the one sold at BB is supposed to fit the GSM model. I didn't have any issues except a very small amount at the top but not sure if that's normal because I think they are the same size.
I recommend Martin fields. It's a dry screen protector, edge to edge, and clear.I got it for $15.99 + free shipping from expansys.

Agreed. I've just took mine off and washed it under the cold tap (had dust under the screen but only just decided to remove it after 2 months or so) and it stuck back down with no trouble at all.

I had a zagg and it was okay but took a hit and luckily saved the screen which is what it is there for. I had to replace it because of the gash it suffered but the screen was fine. I had already ordered a ghost armor screen kit and decided to try it instead while waiting for my zagg replacement. Needless to say the zagg is still unopened in the box. The ghost armor has less orange peel and I also like the way the cutouts were done. The zagg looks cheap and sloppy around the speaker and camera and leaves the glass exposed. It is also prone to peeling in that area. The ghost armor does scratch more than the zagg because I think the zagg is softer. So that is the trade-off for less orange peel. The zagg does seem to heal itself a tad better but its not enough for me to put it back on.
Dont buy any rearth ringbo Galaxy Nexus Ultimate Clear PLUS.
No full coverage and easily scratched; plus their not replying their emails.

Thanks for the photos.
And I think we could more or less reach the conclusion that if anyone wants full screen coverage for GNex, he/she has to go for the wet protectors because of the curved screen.

When I said no full coverage, I mean the visible margin around the phone because the screen protector is cut smaller than the screen. Thanks for sharing though. Its cutting is better than SGP already judging by the photos.

well, coverage is 1 thing, but it's so easily scratched. I'm using it less than 1 week.
So a couple of days ago in the Do you over protect? thread, I was very blasé about not using any type of screen protection and I thought I might be inviting fate so I quickly scrabbled to the Zagg Nexus page as I've heard very positive reviews about them. I paid my €24.99, sat back for a couple of days and it arrived today...
First impressions were of utter disappointment, right off the bat it feels cheap, you can't run your hands over it smoothly as it generates too much friction. Secondly I noticed that there was a huge 'L' shaped defect on the front of it.

On closer inspection I saw a score along the bottom of it as well.
I didn't fit it to the phone, obviously, and have since contacted Zagg for a full refund. I can appreciate this is a manufacturing defect but for €25 I was expecting something really special. It doesn't even look like it'll be 100% invisible as it claims, it's very bumpy.
Needless to say I won't be buying from Zagg again. I've been over to ProtectionFilms24 and bought the Vikuiti screen protector for the Nexus which is an amazing screen protector. I've had one on my HD2 and it was robust, removable and was wipe clean on both sides so you could reapply any time you wanted.
Am I being too hard on Zagg, or are they really as good as people say? I must say I can't remember the last time I opened an accessory and was so disappointed. I can't understand how people say they are so good.
it's pretty known that zagg has an orange peel feel. it actually works really well as i have one on my phone if you dont mind the orange peel feel.
looks like the L shape is just a defect and can happen to pretty much any protector.
I've used Zagg on basically all my phones. You have to give it several days to lose that 'sticky' feel, and then it is very smooth, IMO.
I recently had my Galaxy Nexus in a sports armband and the plastic stuck to the Zagg and caused an air bubble. Because of this, I removed it and much prefer the phone with no screen protector at all.

Is the colour saturation affected by the Zagg? They look and feel so 'cheap' I'm almost inclined to think so.

Odd... I had a Zagg on my Incredible for 1.5 years and it never lost the tacky feeling...or the odd semi-ripples. And it wasn't a poor install as the Zagg rep at the stand did it, and a different one said it was normal. :-/
To be fair... it did a nice job keeping it safe.
*brohoof*
No they don't seem to affect the colors on the screen. I've had one installed on several different phones and they never had the sticky feeling go away. But they do protect the screen very well.
I just installed an XOSkin protector to my Gnex and I like it a lot better than the Zagg ones.
I bought the zagg full body protector i only used the body protector and get rid of the screen protector within minutes.. truth be told a 5$ matte screen protector will look and feel better than a 25$ zagg screen protector on your screen ( just saying my opinion thou) and trust me it is a 100 times easier to install..mainly if u have no previous experience with it..
I always though their screen protector sucked. Better off with the eBay ones at least they feel smooth. And some are really clear.

+1 on the XOSKin. I wasn't sure either when my wife and I got our new Nexii, so I put a Zagg on hers right away because they had them at Best Buy, and she's clumsy and I didn't want to wait. For comparison sake, I ordered an XOSkin for mine and waited patiently for it to arrive.
I can't even tell the XOSkin is on mine, but her Zagg is so obvious with the excessive orange peel, and the way it doesn't cover the entire face of the phone causes dust and crud to build up around the edges near the front camera/earpiece. It just looks super tacky. I've asked her multiple times if I can buy her an XOSkin to replace the Zagg, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
Well Zagg have a 45 day no quibble returns policy, I emailed them earlier I'm just waiting on a reply it's defective so hopefully it'll be hassel free getting my Pennies back. I'll stick with what I know, the 3M Vikuiti it's a fantastic protector.
I got this orange crap effect with Zagg too, hated it.
Getting an XO Skins screen protector instead, they advertise no orange peel which everyone says is true.
I've always used Zagg screen protectors. They're far from "invisible" (soon to hopefully be fixed with the expansion of their new Zagg HD line.)
They do suffer slightly from a slight tacky feeling. The best way I've found to fix that is regularly (once a day or so.) wipe your screen down with a phone wipe. Preferably a high percentage Isopropyl Alch. wipe. After a week or so the tack feeling is completely gone and the protector is still just un-scratchable as it's ever been.
I've never had any issues at all. Granted I put them on all day long for my customers (US Cellular Rep). I've gotten very skilled at application of these suckers.
Horrible, horrible things. Resistive to touch and the orange peel effect distorts the screen slightly. I had one on my HTC Sensation and took it off within days.
Terrible
When I first bought my htc desire I ordered the zagg screen protector, it looked horrible and there is so much friction that it just doesn't feel natural at all.
It was also far from invisible... so no I don't think you were being too harsh on Zagg!
Hate it
I am active so I like to use an armband with my phone. The screen protector sticks to the clear plastic of ANY armband...which pretty much destroys the screen protector and the armband. It is a problem that Zagg knows of, but they haven't bothered to come up with a solution.
I have used other screen protectors that do not suffer this problem with my armbands.
Zagg works well if installed correctly. Just blows if you get lint or dust under it. When installing .

almost bought the zagg. thankfully i read this post before
I would rather stick a piece for tyre to screen than have to use Zagg again
I haven't used a zagg on my gnex but I have tried it on other devices and installed on a couple of friends devices.
In my opinion the shields for the back is ok if you want a little extra grip and for that very reason I will never use one for my screen again. To sticky for my taste.

My opinion on Zagg shield is that they are difficult to put on the screen (atleast for me) but once it is on there pure magic! after you give it a week to settle in, and it loses that sticky orange peel feeling it is great! and your phone just feels safer
Just received my amFilm screen protectors and have to say they are one of the best plastic screen guards I've used to date. Here is what the company has to say on their amazon page: (then my opinions)
Invisible, superior quality, 3-layer PET film that will not distort the High Definition screen clarity/natural color pallette
Protects screen from daily scratches, dust, scrapes, and normal signs of wear
Attaches smoothly with self-adhering surface, leaves no residue when removed
Includes: (3) Screen Protectors, Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloth, Squeeze Card, Installation Manual
The package I received looks very professional and was undamaged during transit thanks to the bubble wrap envelope they used to send it in. :good:

Inside the packaging, I found the usual items, (squeegee card, microfiber cloth) plus a couple things usually not found with screen protectors, like detailed installation instructions (2 methods described) and dust removal/hinge stickers. Nice touch.
I prefer using the side hinge method of application, but I'm sure vertical application is just as good.
After applying the protector, I went about looking closely at it in different light sources, swiping and tapping my brains out. I have to say that after the initial "break-in" (getting skin oil worked in) I really couldn't tell the difference between the protector and real glass. It's very smooth and hard. Touch response was not affected at all by it, at least I couldn't tell any difference. There is no rainbow effect when viewed closely in the light, and as a matter of fact, it looks like clear glass.
Screen coverage is just about edge to edge, so even without a case, you really can't tell it's on there. Cutouts are perfectly aligned.
It is somewhat oleophobic, but I have yet to see one that is 100% anti skin oil. But good nonetheless. If I didn't tell you I had a screen protector on my phone, you'd be hard pressed to notice it. This is simply the best one I've used so far, and they now have a loyal customer. And, as of this writing, they are only $1.00 for 3 (includes shipping) http://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Invisi...ywords=amfilm+premium+screen+protector+moto+g
I defy you to find a better deal. Great product, awesome price. I would pay $1 per sheet for these, easily. Look no further if you need screen protectors for your G. amFilm makes screen protectors for other phones too.
I would show you how it looks on my phone, but it's invisible!

You won't regret it. Just take your time and do it right.
A friend of mine just commented how much like glass it looks and feels like. :good:

This isn't a comparison thread. If you want to talk about that particular screen protector, start a new thread.
I bought one the other day. $1 total.
How is it installed? With water or?
Dry install
Just ordered mine of Amazon. Good price and looks really good!
Got mine today!! I ordered it the 13th and Amazon said it was going to come either the 20th or 25th. Pretty damn good.
The installation is very easy, though you have to have stickers ready when doing step 1-2 because otherwise keeping the protector in "place" is sort of hard because its a little slippery. But once you put on the stickers it's very easy to just simply put it on.
The screen quality is great. I don't even notice it's on. Great protector for the price. I did the Hinge Installation by the way. It's very easy. If you don't get it, watch the video they supply in with the QR code in the instruction manual.
I just received my amFilm screen protectors today, and they're pretty good, but I don't have much to compare them to. I've only put screen protectors on two of my phones before. The only thing I'll have to get used to is the fact that swiping from the side, I catch on the edge of the screen protector. I use Sidebar Pro, with my trigger set at the middle of the right edge of the screen. Swiping to open the bar, I catch on the protector, but not badly enough to disrupt what I'm doing. Other than that, so far, so good.
Hi,
your review reads so awesome that I tried to purchase these protectors. However I live in Germany and they do not ship to countries outside the US.
I would like to ask you for a favour: would someone buy these protectors (pref. with prime for free shipping) and then forward them to be in Germany? Can someone guess how much this would be? I would really appreciate this.
Screen protectors here cost about 9-11 USD and I cannot find any reviews.

They are no longer $1.00 on amazon, and now go for $4.95. With shipping, they would be very expensive. You're better off just buying what's available in Germany.

So they don't get unresponsive? I've had some on my Pico which did.
after removing the crap screen protector that came with my otterbox commuter case, which had an insane amount of glare and made the screen so unresponsive it was frustrating, this HD clear screen protector by amfilm truly delivers as op stated. there is now zero glare and the touch responsiveness is pin point accurate! I'm one very satisfied customer. thank you for the recommendation sir.
