[Q] Wifi USB Tethering - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I have my Droid Inc inactive since i got my gf a droid charge. I want to be able to use my Dinc as a wifi adapter for my desktop. I dont have a wifi adapter on it and 2 cheap to buy one. currently im using my E4GT as my adapter.
Is there any app out there that will let me connect my Dinc wifi and transfer than to my desktop or a rom that has that built in into it? The one on my E4GT has it built into the rom and just wondering if there is anything like that here.

You may be able to connect to wifi and then usb tether your phone to your pc. Im not sure exactly how it works, or if its even possible, but its something to look into.

Ya that's the way I do it on my epic touch. I just connect to wifi and hit USB tether under wireless and networks. I want to be able to do this on my Dinc.

I think its called Internet Connection Mode on the dinc under wireless and networks. I believe there are also several root apps on the market for usb tethering.

PdaNet is a good app for USB tethering, and doesn't require a rooting. It's free for basic tethering, and worked for me for everything I wanted. It was a very simple process. just search PdaNet in goodle, and it is under JuneFabrics.
Sorry I'm not allowed to make links yet

I've heard good thigns about clockwork mod tether. tethers over USB

IPOD TOUCH wont connect to infrastructure wifi tether

anybody have any issues with this? my laptop sees and can use the hotspot but my ipod touch cannot connect to it. also, even with the evo lying right next to the ipod, sometimes it cant even see the connection. i have to move the phone around for it to catch it. i have tried without a passcode and with a passcode. i have been able to detect both (from time to time) but can never connect to it. its getting frustrating.
Also,
my xbox 360 sees my connection and is able to use it but like the ipod, the connection is really crappy and the bars are really low even when the phone is lying next to the wifi antena. any ideas?
anybody have any insight?
Root and use the wireless tether app would be what I'd try.
I know that touch connects to ad-hoc just fine. That is strange though. I'd blame the ipod before blaming the evo.
well im rooted using unrevoked and pretty much anything can see my signal except ipod or other cell phones.
yeah i wish my zune hd would see my wifitether connection too :-(
why arent they seeing these connections. im serious when is say that due to this i may actually return my evo before july 4th....i need wifi and my touch pro 2 was flawless with it.

What version of IOS? I have been able to without a problem. You might try resetting wireless on the iPod. Wireless on Apple devices has been a problem. Didn't you see the keynote for iPhone 4? Even Steve Jobs couldn't get it working...
I don't think it has anything to do with the evo. the wireless tether on my g 1 never worked with my zunehd either. although my buddies ipod could connect to it as well as his iphone.

With the Evo and the Wireless Tether 2.0.5-pre2 & higher builds my zHD can see the tether because it's now AP mode instead of Ad-Hoc. That's why the Wireless Tether app on the G1 & Nexus & other phones don't show on a lot of devices (Wii, PSP, PS3, Zune HD, to name the ones I know for sure), since they don't have AP mode tethering.
Anyway, update your Wifi Tether app if it isn't showing still, because it works fine on my end.

Anyone tried PDANET?

Since they offer a fully functional version for 14 days as a trial I tried it.
With 1 bar of 4G signal and usb tether, getting 3.3Mb connection. It flies! Bluetooth tether was pretty slow though at 0.5Mb but, I figure the usb is the better option since you don't drain your battery.
I haven't rooted my Epic and don't want to until the community grows a bit more and things mature. Just might end up buying the license for pdanet. Truth be told only thing I used root for on my Evo besides the custom roms was tethering.
it works just make sure to have all the samsung galaxy s drivers installed in your computer first before actually installing pdanet
i installed it on my pc but the app isnt in my phone

Dude not cool man. Developers are people who have bills to pay just like you and me. For many of them this is their main source of income. If the program does what it claims to do and you use the product, then you shouldn't have a problem with paying for it.
Its the only solution that works without root on a mac and it works damn well so I purchased a license.

Usb tethering

Does Sprint charge for usb tethering or just the hot spot? Tried calling and got the typical "What's tethering?" response. Also did a search here and didn't find any thing. My plan details are not telling either.
Sent from my couch, with a beer and some pretzels while watching tv.
If you root, you will get free USB or wireless tethering. I rooted both of our Evo's specifically to get that working. I loaded the Sprint Lovers rom and it's all working perfectly. I just spent a few days at the MIL's house and used the heck out of it.
There are other advantages to rooting, too, like a bigger selection of apps, custom roms, etc.
Well, that's why I ask. I need to be able to tether, but not wirelessly. On my old TP2, and clear back to my Apache for that matter, it was simply a registry hack and most of the roms had stealth built in, so I never worried about it. But, with the EVO, it seems that stealth has to be dome by root, and root is a right swine to achieve at this point, due to the recent OTA. Thus, if I can use the usb tether without charge, then I will until things settle down a bit.
However, I am not keen on paying Sprint another $30 a month on top of the extra charge for unlimited data, because that would be redundant. Not to mention the extra $10 a month that I have to pay which the guy at the store called the "Coolness Charge" So, when I figure it out I will root and put the screws to the Powers That Be. But, for now, I need to have a contingency plan because college classes are almost all internet submitted, and work won't let me use their wifi, and tends to get touchy when you try hacking it...

Just root using unrEVOked and then go to the wifi tether website and download the most current version of the application and you will be able to put out a strong G signal. Or use pda net for wired tethering.

I have been reading that unrEVOked3 looses the 4G encryption keys, has that changed?

that's not necessarily true... its more like some phones require that the mhl to be powered... t mobile's galaxy ii does not require the mhl to be powered and several other phones don't require the mhl to be powered...

[Q] Wireless tethering to xbox slim model not working

So I have tested two different Xbox 360 slims. Both do not want to hook up. Old Xbox 360 with wireless g adapter works fine.
Bui... This has not always been the case with Xbox 360 slim. I used to not have problem. I think this may be due to new WiFi drivers.
Thing is... I can't seem to get the old WiFi drivers back on my phone. I used to have option to host WiFi tethering via wep securrty, which I take as an indicator of old wifi.
I have flashed older kernels to no avail. Running latest rasbean. Any suggestions or help?

Yes. Tried that.
Changing mixed to G or N?
a maguro wrote this.
Now I'm in your boat. Internet's down and I'm trying to tether to my Xbox slim. I googled, found out that this problem only started happening after the 4.2 update.

I still think its wlan drivers. Gonna try flashing some old ass kernels to test. Maybe today... I recall it working before wlan drivers were messed with.
I decided to USB tether to my laptop and bridge the connection with an Ethernet cable. Works that way.
