Windows Phone with Ubuntu 12.04 access file system - Windows Phone 7 General

Hi Everyone.
Did anyone connect (USB) windows phone on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system?
It recognize phone (optimus 7) as digital media player and allows access to media files via nautilus. I must said that this is not always, it work only when you connect phone (it ask what do you want to do with digital media device, if you choose open folder it shows files, if you close windows and try again to open device - 045e 04ec - it cannot shows content)
I do not know is this some kind of bug but would be nice that this is from box allowed on Windows OS.
Cheers.

This sounds like what has been talked about over in the Lumia 800 development forum. Perhaps this can lead to some interesting things on the Optimus 7 as well.

Tried doing that with backtrack,
it didn't even recognize my Omnia 7.

I've tried, it is similar

I tried it with Omnia 7, works well as long as your phone is not password protected.

Also my htc mozart, but can not access files.

I'll try it on my Focus S with linux mint...

We must remove the password from the settings and setting the screen lock on never even from my mozart I can access the files. Cool.

Songbird (Windows) can access to the file system too. You can see all the multimedia files and i think you can sync the multimedia library. Also there is a songbird version for linux (its an old build but works).

Hy there.
Sorry about my bad english.
You should have a look on this pages:
http:??kbhomesDOTgithubDOTcom/2012/02/13/mtpz-implementationDOThtml
https:??githubDOTcom/kbhomes/libmtp-zune
(Sorry about this i'm not allowed to post links for now)
I had compiled it and what should i say? It works!
Now i can send music to my phone (using amarok, rythmbox, gMTP ect.)
There are some problems with id3tags but it's better than nothing.

Windows Sideshow

When I try to install Windows Sideshow I get the following errors:
1. A problem has occurred with tmarshaller.exe
2. A problem has occurred with shell32.exe
When I click these errors away the installation is finished, but then my device doesn't respond to anything.
After a soft reset I can start Sideshow, but even when the device has a bluetooth connection with my computer it gives the following message:
"Make sure that this device is paired with the PC over Bluetooth and that the PC is turned onn and within range.
If this problem persists, wait a few minutes and try again."
When I remove the application and reinstall it again I get the same problems.
Anyone know what I can do to make it work?
Using Windows Sideshow on Xperia X1
Hi, I can't help with the error codes but I have successfully loaded Windows Sideshow onto my Xperia X1 and can see information from my Desktop PC.
Background info:
PC Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Xperia Operating System: Energy ROM based on WM 6.5.3
The steps I took were to install my USB Bluetooth adapter but install using the Standard Bluetooth stack drivers that are built into Windows 7, create a Pairing between my X1 and PC so i never need to input a code when transferring data.
I then installed the Windowssideshowforwindowsmobile.cab and .NetCF V2.cab to my X1 (Install to Device and not storage card)
then go to control panel on your PC and under Devices you should see your Phone/PDA listed - access the settings option by right clicking and go to the 'Services' tab, select all Bluetooth services by putting a Tick into the box.
I had options for Activsync over bluetooth and windows sideshow.
then on your Phone/PDA start the Sideshow app and select connect.
to add new apps/gadgets to your device go to Control panel/windows sideshow.
Hope this Helps.

[Q] How to use CIFs with Windows 7

Could some kind person point me in the direction of how to use CIF's (on DJ Droid 1.4, presume it's the same for every rom) along with Windows 7 to share a media folder?
I've (obviously wrongly), shared the folder in Windows, put in the network path, username and password and local path in the CIF's manager but it always fails to mount.
Many thanks.
I've worked it out now, in case anyone is interested, do not use the windows network name, instead do this:
Right click folder in Windows, select properties/sharing then click "Advanced Sharing", check "Share this folder" click ok.
Add the share in the CIFs manager with the windows box IP address and the folder, e.g.
192.168.1.2/Media
Use your windows username and password.
Job done.
what should be entered at Mount Point?

Any path on the phone. /sdcard/cifs/media works fine for me.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Can someone explain how I would use this to access music on my home computer - I have a dns service so that I can remotely access the computer - using the built in htc music player, or is this not possible?
From what I understand, I simply share the folder (samba) in windows but how do I point my phone at that directory?
Chimp
Bump Would love this
Note: This will only work on your home Wifi network. If you want to make use of files from your home PC over 3G, you might want to use a VPN.
You'll need a rooted device and a custom kernel that allows CIFS. All AOSP ROMs use CIFS enabled kernels, but if you use a Sense ROM then you may need to install a newer kernel to get this to work (see the "all things Desire" thread in the "Desire Android Development" subforum for kernel options).
Install CifsManager from the market. Find the file 'cifs.ko' on your phone and make sure that the 'path to cifs.ko' in the CifsManager settings points to it.
You'll need to know:
- Your PC's IP address (i.e. 192.168.0.10)
- The name of the share you've created (i.e. Media)
- The name of the Windows user allowed to access the share (i.e. smeddy)
- The password of the Windows user allowed to access the share (i.e. 53cr3t)
In CifsManager, press menu, 'Add new share' and enter the above details. Press on the line in CifsManager with the red dot on the right. The dot should turn green. From now on, to use files from your PC on your phone, just open CifsManager and tap the share to connect.
You should now be able to access the files from the share on your PC as if they were located in /mnt/cifs/<share name> (if you have S-OFF) or /sdcard/mnt/cifs/<share name> (if you haven't).
I was thinking that a folder in the phone can be added as a share and accessed as a shared folder from a Windows 7 PC (the reverse of that mentioned here) using CIFs manager. Can this be done? If so can someone post detailed steps please?
No, as far as I know, that doesn't work yet.
What you'd need for that is an Android port of Samba. Some people over in the Android Software Development forums are discussing that, but I don't think it's working (yet). Edit: Apparently it is. See this thread for more information.
There are several FTPd's for Android in the market, though. That could do much the same thing.
@Cuchulainx
WOW! Thanks man. I was having trouble getting this to work. Couldn't seem to make a connection to my PC shares. Now with your help it works superb.
I can open word documents and excel spreadsheets on my phone from my computer and edit them with Quickoffice. Awesome.
Can also wirelessly transfer files from PC to phone. Cool.
Cheers mate. Clever boy!
great!!want to have a try, but don't know how to start~~
is there any way to get cifsmanager work with windows 7 which doesn't have a password? i get "I/O error" all the time.

TouchExperience WPDM public release

Schaps has released the private beta TouchExperience and Windows Phone Device Manager....Maybe other developers can work with this program and make things happen even more than what we already have to work with.
Download
http://forum.touchxperience.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=783
Windows Phone Device Manager features:
Applications management: view, install/uninstall homebrew applications
File management: explore device, exchange files with your phone
Files & folders synchronization
Integration with Windows explorer
Send to Windows Phone (to send files, apps, ringtones, web links in one click)
Device backup (if MS allow it)
Device information
Add and manage custom ringtones
Send SMS, E-mail, notes directly from PC (without needing cloud services)
Shared clipboard with PC and phone
Programming sends notifications to phone
Initiate connection from PC or phone
Wireless connection support
Auto pairing (no need to enter PC or phone IP address)
Requirements:
Registred/unlocked Windows Phone 7 device
Windows Vista or Windows 7 32/64-bit
Windows Phone Developer Tools
.NET Framework 4.0
Julien Schapman's Apps for Windows Phone 7
TouchXplorer
Advanced Configuration Tool
Quick Settings
Registry Editor
Xbox Live Gamer Profile
You can initiate connection from both PC and device (tap PC Synchronization in TouchXperience to etablish connection from device). You can connect via USB or Wi-Fi, but the first time you have to connect via USB so WP Device Manager can deploy TouchXperience and your device can get your PC IP address.
In the current version you can't manually set the PC or phone IP address to connect, or change default ports.
Make sure port 8007 is not blocked by firewall on PC and port 8107 is reachable on device.
When WP Device Manager initiate a connection, if it can't connect to the phone, in case you are connected via USB it will launch TouchXperience, in other cases it will send a push notification to your phone asking you to manually launch TouchXperience
Some tasks requires that your phone screen is unlocked
It is not necessary to have Zune runing in order to use WP Device Manager.
If you have connection problems, try the following may help: unplug/replug your phone, close or start Zune, restart WP Device Manager, make sure your device is detected by Zune.
In order to use WP Device Manager from Windows Device Stage, you must have Windows 7 and driver signature verification disabled, unfortunately this is because Windows 7 recognize only digitally signed drivers.
Here is a registry fix for ppl having connection problems:
This thing doesn't work on all WP7 devices and is a pure HTC only app for the most part (good editable part)..On my DVP, the moment i connect the device, it crashes.
Neverthless, the developer has to get credit for the work he has done and support him.
Not sure what errors you may be getting when it crashes? It currently supports the following devices:
HTC HD7, HTC 7 Mozart, HTC 7 Trophy, HTC 7 Surround, HTC 7 Pro, HTC Arrive, HTC HD2, Samsung Focus, Samsung Omnia 7, Dell Venue Pro, LG Optimus 7, LG E900, LG C900.
I had connection problems when he first released to beta testers but that was at first...but all was worked out in the 2nd version..

wow, nice. works here on LG Quantum (C900). thanks for the post.
edit: Capture only works within TouchExperience, not when I go out of it to the phone's native menu. in fact, it disconnects the phone when I do that (by design?).
when i install it says i need version 1.3.2 to connect. then one to download is 1.3.0

and when i launch it manualy i get:
TouchXperience version 1.2.3.0 or later is required
tried all the restart/reset stuff, nothing is working. did you have to do anything with yours?

If you are not able to connect or if some features are not properly working, go to Settings in WP Device Manager, click Restore default settings and restart your PC...Also try delete touchexperience from phone then reconnect to pc and let it download and install it again to device to try get error about 1.3.2 as the current version is 1.3.0 for public release and beta testers is 1.3.2 i do believe ...sometimes it trys to look for updates and gives error, but all should be fine within the program after that error.

I was having this same problem and here is a great tip that might save some of you headaches.
1: If you are on windows x64 go grab a program called EasyBCD Install it and in the advance settings go to advanced and tick the box that says "Allow installation of unsigned drivers in x64"
2: Remember to install the windows phone developer tools if you haven't already.
3: Turn Zune on before loading the program and Run The Device Manager as Administrator.
Program does not crash and works great with my HTC

ah, talk to a beginner. thanks for this. wasn't obvious to me to tap that (although I am used to on my Zune ).
It must have taken the phone a while to adopt the settings. After a minute or so it was working. Thanks again!
how is the multitasking support? Does it work pretty well?

[Q] How to see ALL files when connected to PC??

Hi all....
Just got my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet and have a question. When connected to my PC as a media device....I can see some of the files, but not ALL of the files (specifically the ones that start with a "."). Is there some setting on windows or android that would allow me to see ALL of the files and not just the ones that Android deems relevant?
Install SamsungLink on your PC and N10.1-14. It'll allow you to access all of your files on both devices from anywhere via Wi-Fi. It'll give you access to your PC files at the highest level of Windows directory structure.

Hey thanks. I tried this, but maybe I'm missing something. What I'm looking for is when I connect my tablet to my PC, I want to be able to see into the "dot" directories (the ones that start with a period). I cannot see that currently.

SamsungLink provides top-level directory access to the devices it's loaded on. I can see all my files on my PC and Android devices. I've never looked for anything like you've described so can't really provide any new detail.

Unlocked Nokia, No access via USB on the PC ?

Hey all,
I just used root tool yesterday (http://forum.xda-developers.com/win.../jailbreak-interop-unlock-windows-10-t3178140 )and I loss access on my PC.
This is a Nokia 929 (Verizon ICON) with build 10512 on it.
When I connect to a PC, I get the noise on my phone (and slow charging message) but, the PC does nothing, does not see a connection. Tried 3 different PCs and rebooted my phone in between. I need to transfer files on and off the phone.
Any idea on how to fix this WITHOUT hard resetting ?

Keep it connected for 10 minutes on the pc. If it doesn't show, unplug and plug it again.
You "lose" access to your phone from the pc because you enabled Full MTP. Enabling Full MTP your phone need to list ALL files and folder and not only your common folder like Documents and so on but also system files from the root of the phone (C:\).
You don't need of that. Deploy CustomPFD, open it, go to tweaks page > General tweaks, Utilities (page), on full fs access, enable it and then disable it.
Unplug and replug it and you have done.
This seems to be an issue with the MTP protocol being unable to handle the sheer amount of files and causing the driver to crash sometimes.
Currently, I have the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MTP\DataStore key set to C:\Data\Users and it works fine that way. I modify this path according to what I want to access, instead of having it set to the root of C:\.
