TouchExperience WPDM public release - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Schaps has released the private beta TouchExperience and Windows Phone Device Manager....Maybe other developers can work with this program and make things happen even more than what we already have to work with.

http://forum.touchxperience.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=783
Windows Phone Device Manager features:
Applications management: view, install/uninstall homebrew applications
File management: explore device, exchange files with your phone
Files & folders synchronization
Integration with Windows explorer
Send to Windows Phone (to send files, apps, ringtones, web links in one click)
Device backup (if MS allow it)
Device information
Add and manage custom ringtones
Send SMS, E-mail, notes directly from PC (without needing cloud services)
Shared clipboard with PC and phone
Programming sends notifications to phone
Initiate connection from PC or phone
Wireless connection support
Auto pairing (no need to enter PC or phone IP address)
Requirements:
Registred/unlocked Windows Phone 7 device
Windows Vista or Windows 7 32/64-bit
Windows Phone Developer Tools
.NET Framework 4.0
Julien Schapman's Apps for Windows Phone 7
TouchXplorer
Advanced Configuration Tool
Quick Settings
Registry Editor
Xbox Live Gamer Profile
You can initiate connection from both PC and device (tap PC Synchronization in TouchXperience to etablish connection from device). You can connect via USB or Wi-Fi, but the first time you have to connect via USB so WP Device Manager can deploy TouchXperience and your device can get your PC IP address.
In the current version you can't manually set the PC or phone IP address to connect, or change default ports.
Make sure port 8007 is not blocked by firewall on PC and port 8107 is reachable on device.
When WP Device Manager initiate a connection, if it can't connect to the phone, in case you are connected via USB it will launch TouchXperience, in other cases it will send a push notification to your phone asking you to manually launch TouchXperience
Some tasks requires that your phone screen is unlocked
It is not necessary to have Zune runing in order to use WP Device Manager.
If you have connection problems, try the following may help: unplug/replug your phone, close or start Zune, restart WP Device Manager, make sure your device is detected by Zune.
In order to use WP Device Manager from Windows Device Stage, you must have Windows 7 and driver signature verification disabled, unfortunately this is because Windows 7 recognize only digitally signed drivers.
Here is a registry fix for ppl having connection problems:

This thing doesn't work on all WP7 devices and is a pure HTC only app for the most part (good editable part)..On my DVP, the moment i connect the device, it crashes.
Neverthless, the developer has to get credit for the work he has done and support him.

Not sure what errors you may be getting when it crashes? It currently supports the following devices:
HTC HD7, HTC 7 Mozart, HTC 7 Trophy, HTC 7 Surround, HTC 7 Pro, HTC Arrive, HTC HD2, Samsung Focus, Samsung Omnia 7, Dell Venue Pro, LG Optimus 7, LG E900, LG C900.
I had connection problems when he first released to beta testers but that was at first...but all was worked out in the 2nd version..

wow, nice. works here on LG Quantum (C900). thanks for the post.
edit: Capture only works within TouchExperience, not when I go out of it to the phone's native menu. in fact, it disconnects the phone when I do that (by design?).

when i install it says i need version 1.3.2 to connect. then one to download is 1.3.0

my LG Quantum C900 has some messages that come up like:
unable to launch TouchXperience
and when i launch it manualy i get:
TouchXperience version 1.2.3.0 or later is required
tried all the restart/reset stuff, nothing is working. did you have to do anything with yours?

Go into settings and enable multitasking, then you should be able to capture

If you are not able to connect or if some features are not properly working, go to Settings in WP Device Manager, click Restore default settings and restart your PC...Also try delete touchexperience from phone then reconnect to pc and let it download and install it again to device to try get error about 1.3.2 as the current version is 1.3.0 for public release and beta testers is 1.3.2 i do believe ...sometimes it trys to look for updates and gives error, but all should be fine within the program after that error.

I was having this same problem and here is a great tip that might save some of you headaches.
1: If you are on windows x64 go grab a program called EasyBCD Install it and in the advance settings go to advanced and tick the box that says "Allow installation of unsigned drivers in x64"
2: Remember to install the windows phone developer tools if you haven't already.
3: Turn Zune on before loading the program and Run The Device Manager as Administrator.
Program does not crash and works great with my HTC

ah, talk to a beginner. thanks for this. wasn't obvious to me to tap that (although I am used to on my Zune ).
It must have taken the phone a while to adopt the settings. After a minute or so it was working. Thanks again!

how is the multitasking support? Does it work pretty well?

Nice ale broken -

WP7 Hacking for Beginners - Chevron, Theming, Ringtones, Registry, MMS/Data

Thought I would write a thread showing how to simply complete an unlock with Chevron WP7 and some common homebrew apps/tweaks for all platforms. The information is scattered and varied, but I will edit this post to be as useful as possible for beginners as a one stop source. Thanks to the following threads for info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857127
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907971
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924497
Unlocking with Chevron WP7
The first step to "sideloading" applications to your phone (applications not approved by Microsoft) is to developer unlock your device.
Downloads needed:
Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools (annoyingly large, but necessary)
Chevron WP7 Application, Chevron Security Certificate, Chevron Registry Entry
TCPView for Windows (don't neglect this, it saves a lot of time and is a useful utility!)
Steps for unlocking:
Install Windows Phone 7 Developer tools. This will require a reboot at the end.
Email the "ChevronWP7.cer" file to your Windows Phone 7 device.
Open the email, tap on the attachment to download it. The icon will turn into a shield, tap again to get a new dialog. Press "Install" then OK.
Put your WP7 Phone into airplane mode (Settings>Airplane mode>Slide the toggle to ON)
Double click the ChevronWP7.reg file on your computer. A prompt will open up asking if you want to write this to your registry. Press Yes to continue, then OK at the end.
Open TCPView. (tcpview.exe inside of the downloaded archive) Click on the heading marked "Local Port" until the arrow next to it is pointing up.
Look on the Local Port column for any entries labeled "HTTPS". These programs MUST be closed for Chevron to work properly. Common culprits are Skype, and XAMPP. Use Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+Delete) to ensure they are closed if you run into issues.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable. Open the Zune software if it is not already open, and wait for it to finish syncing.
Open your Zune software and go to the Phone page, and make SURE you don't see anything that denotes that you are in a "Guest Sync" relationship with the device. It needs to be the primary computer the phone is synced with.
Unlock your phone and leave it at the home screen. Make sure the phone does not go to sleep after this.
Open ChevronWP7.exe. It should be running as administrator. Check both boxes, and press Unlock.
Cross your fingers, and you should be up and running on a developer unlocked device! (The Unlock button will change to Relock in Chevron if this is successful)
If you receive the error "Phone is locked with a PIN", it means your phone was locked when the fix was being applied. Make sure to unlock your phone (so you can see the live tiles) BEFORE pressing the unlock button.
If the program crashes, navigate to C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\etc and right click the file named hosts and press properties. Uncheck read only and press OK, then try again.
Homebrew Applications
All homebrew applications are installed as follows:
Go to Start>Programs>Windows Phone Developer Tools> and run Application Deployment
Ensure the target is "Windows Phone 7 Device"
Browse to the .XAP that you are loading.
Connect your phone, wait for Zune sync to finish. Ensure it is not guest.
Unlock phone and keep it awake. Press "Deploy" and the application should load (not extremely fast, and will appear in your app list without a reboot when done)
If the above doesn't work, then try resetting your phone and retrying. Also, restart your computer if the problem persists.

DO NOT MESS WITH THE REGISTRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!

All other devices:
In an installed registry editor, navigate to the following key and change these values.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg]
"PortalUrlProd"=""
"PortalUrlInt"=""
Let me know if anything should be added or if you need any help!
I just wanted to thank you again for making this. The only thing that I think would be useful would be to add links to extremely useful Registry hacks, like the power management ones for the Focus.

HTC and LG offer utilities in their section of the marketplace for MMS/data, so just grab one of those! Samsung's utility is faulty by design to keep people from unlocking, thus the hack.
What does this mean? Is ig that samsung phones have trouble unlocking because I bought my wife a focus and I had the same error message. But I haven't tried the way posted here. So I will be trying this way and replying. Thanks!
pls help me with this: I have HTC Surround and can not sync with zune, it doesn´t start when connect the phone and if start manually it doesn´t connect and sync neither
thank you for this one. it works exactly it was described on the first page. samsung omnia 7 portugal bought phone. but using it in Turkey.
Win Phone 7 MMS settings XML
So I dont know if this helps, or if anyone a little more knowledgable than I can attack this with me but I have the XML and registry settings for MMS from my LG quantum. I have a focus and LG Quantum. My LG has the XML viewer and reg editor built right in, which I friggen love.
So I took pix of the whole xml file that should be enough info to change the profile to the right settings, with the reg keys.
At first glance here it looks like just changing a couple string values... of the key at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\ShortMsg\MMS in the ADDR string value to your MMS server would be a start. I will look further into it after work tonight. If anyone beats me to it... so be it. Just thought I would toss this out there just in case it helps.

Hi, I'm new here.
So I followed each step thoroughly, and when I execute 'ChevronWP7' and check off each box and click 'unlock', the program says it has stopped working.
What could be the issue?
Also:
I have the phone on the main menu
I do have all necessary programs running
Samsung re-lock prevention hack doesn't work for me
After deploying the xap it seems to take, but, my Focus is always relocked after syncing. Not a huge deal to unlock before deploying, but, thought it was worth a mention...
Edit: Nevermind. Didn't realize they're was an app on the phone to run as well... Should have read the original thread first. Sorry...

[DF Router Fix] For all people with having problems geting back into Zune Mode

First I want to say I tested this on my own HTC 7 Pro and all you need is the DFT HSPL and some time
This is the first time i wrote a tutorial so please correct me if there is a something wrong...
1. Check if you have installed HSPL on your device
2. Install the 7720 DFT Custom rom Can be found here
3.After you installed the Rom and your phone is rebootet complete the setup and connect to the internet (wifi or mobile)
4. Copy this link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7645529/DFRouter.xap and paste it in the Internet Explorer
5.You should now have a white screen with the text Tap to open the File DFRouter.xap tap on the text and leave Internet Explorer
6.Go to your application menu there should now be the DFRouter App put your phone back in zune mode and all is working just fine
Please give me a Feedback if this fix worked for you and if it was helpful ^^
not using it anymore my phone can't detect pc Zune and charging.had to send to service centre again and they change the mobo.I believe that WP7 is totally different from wm6.I also believe many have problem using it.

The point here is that you can download and instal XAPs directly from the net instead of doing it through Zune and sideloading. The key to fixing the Zune mode on your phone is just to get DFRouter installed on your phone. Installing directly from the OP's dropbox account will allow it to install and will allow you to click the button "Zune Mode" to get your phone back to being able to sync with Zune again.
Router mode on Mango breaks the phone's connection to the PC entirely, which means you won't be able to charge your phone if in router mode on Mango... but if you turn your phone off and plug it into the wall-charger, it should charge... which will allow you to then install the XAP from the OP's dropbox account.

Windows 7/Vista Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) not load/run; WP not connect

If your PC is on a domain (typically a work network) the administrators may have following this MS virus alert KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007 which stops WMDC dead and windows mobile phones do not install when connected with USB. There are many discussions about this problem around, but non seem to have this solution.
Took me a long time to figure this out - hope it helps. Worked on Windows 7 for me, also works on Vista. I tried to install/uninstall WMDC and WP5 & 6 many times without success. But these would install on my Win7 Home PC without a hitch. Figured it may to with group policy.
The trick to fix this is, open Regedit on PC.
Right click and select permissions on
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Select "Owner: TrustedInstaller" Change TrustedInstaller permissions to: Full Control & Read, not inherited
Next right click and select permissions on HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost
Select Owner: System
Change TrustedInstaller permissions to: Full Control & Read, inherited from CurrentVersion
(Actually in the end I changed all permissions in these 2 to Full Control & Read)
Save your work. Reboot and try to connect your windows mobile phone via USB and with any luck WMDC will download (again, even if it installed) and the phone will connect.
Good Luck
This is not working for me on a new Windows 7 PC. Any ideas?
Made regedit changes and rebooted - checked changes rebooted.

Windows Phone with Ubuntu 12.04 access file system

Hi Everyone.
Did anyone connect (USB) windows phone on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system?
It recognize phone (optimus 7) as digital media player and allows access to media files via nautilus. I must said that this is not always, it work only when you connect phone (it ask what do you want to do with digital media device, if you choose open folder it shows files, if you close windows and try again to open device - 045e 04ec - it cannot shows content)
I do not know is this some kind of bug but would be nice that this is from box allowed on Windows OS.
Cheers.

This sounds like what has been talked about over in the Lumia 800 development forum. Perhaps this can lead to some interesting things on the Optimus 7 as well.
Tried doing that with backtrack,
it didn't even recognize my Omnia 7.

I've tried, it is similar
I tried it with Omnia 7, works well as long as your phone is not password protected.
Also my htc mozart, but can not access files.
I'll try it on my Focus S with linux mint...
We must remove the password from the settings and setting the screen lock on never even from my mozart I can access the files. Cool.
Songbird (Windows) can access to the file system too. You can see all the multimedia files and i think you can sync the multimedia library. Also there is a songbird version for linux (its an old build but works).
Hy there.
Sorry about my bad english.
You should have a look on this pages:

https:??githubDOTcom/kbhomes/libmtp-zune
(Sorry about this i'm not allowed to post links for now)

After instaling this fix, [DFT] BT File Transfer does not work anymore on my Htc Mozart/Dynamics 2.0 rom. It hangs on opening while installing drivers, asking for rebooting again and again.
Thanks for your work, anyway

It now seems to work. I have pushed the Nokia_Bluetooth_Share button as well, even thogh I haven´t installed the corresponding xap. After the rebooting request, DFT] BT File Transfer Works fine again.
Very appreciated
It doesn't work! HTC Titan Dynamics 2.0 WP 7.8 rom here.
Error msg: Sorry but this app won't work with this version of Windows Phone. The good news is you can download an update from Zune.

Try this Nokia Share version: http://www.mediafire.com/?de77omwwo17f6w6
Just try on my HTC Radar. New drivers work I can pair my phone to my Laptop and I can receive files but without pairing I can not. For sending I can send from Unique File Manager or from DFT BT file transfer but I can not send from Nokia Share when I choose file I try to send it it saw my paired laptop and says tap to connect even I already pair it when I tap I receive an error. OK tell me where I can find my photos from my camera and my music which I previously installed with zune because I can not find it in folders with file manager. If Nokia Share works it will be very useful.

I had the same problem.
I installed DFT BT Transfer and missed to install BTDrivers.xap.
Install BTDrivers.xap and set root access.
Go to app BTDrivers on apps list.
press Enable button and restart.
Now should work.

I try on radar the same problem. When I try to send file some picture I receive this: Something went wrong Your phone isn't connecting with XXXX. Give it another try.
But my phone is paired and I just receive the application via bluetooth.

:cyclops: it dosent work for my hd2
It doesn't work on Omnia W
I saw this in a Russian thread:
How to set up reception \ file transfer over Bluetooth-based Nokia Bluetooth Drivers.
The efficiency of instructions tested on version 7.8 (7.10.8862.144) c Interop Unlock.
1) Install Nokia Bluetooth Share;
2) Set the BTDrivers;
3) that programs WP7RootTools Root law;
4) Find by WP7RootTools all files in the "Applications", containing the name "Obex", and install it (there must be at least 4 files: btobexdriver.dll, Obexinbox.dll, BtObexDriverCom.dll BtObexApiCom.dll. First Two necessarily set (long tap on the file (to install or install), the other 2 for the company);
5) Run BTDrivers and click under "Enable DFT_BT file file retrieval" to "Enable" (not to be confused, this is important), then reboot the phone;
6) "Sparro" on bluetooth phone and a computer (other phone), perhaps after the phone settings will indicate "not connected" and the settings of the computer "offline", do not worry.
7) Start the Nokia Bluetooth Share, you can now transmit \ receive files (both actions are checked on the beech with a Bluetooth adapter, transfer to another phone also failed).
8) Receiving files after restart (after a while) may stop, look upd4.
Thank elvis81.
If you click on "Enable" BTDrivers program crashes, the
1) Do a search in the Windows Catalog "Obex" and delete (not deleted? Rename!) The following files, if any: Obexinbox.dll, btobexdriver.dll;
2) Do a search in the directory "Applications" on "Obex" and select all the files (in theory sufficient to establish two files obex *, are in BTDrivers);
3) Start BTDrivers and click under "Enable DFT_BT file file retrieval" to "Enable", then restart the phone.
UPD4 was possible to accept the file as follows, the program Nokia Bluetooth Share is open, choose to take it from another device, choose Others (Others?), Open the settings menu Bluetooth, disable and enable it by clicking the "Back" returns to the program and the Nokia Bluetooth Share the computer immediately send.
UPD5 If still does not work, check if there is a directory of "Windows" files "Obexinbox.dll" and "btobexdriver.dll". If not, then copy them from the "Applications \ install \ 67e35ac2-975e-401d-add8-a2c0007fd527 \ install \ nokia", then reboot the phone.
UPD6 In theory, you can run the Bluetooth driver from the DFT Team (properly install \ convert rgu \ provxml + all necessary dll manually set), then it will be possible to run a file manager that can take \ transfer any file.
What it means: UPD6 ... properly install \ convert rgu \ provxml + all necessary dll manually set ...
How can we do that?
