I use my head unit in my car to stream music from my phone to the car and have been loving it. I have been using it since I had my OG droid and never had any issues. The only thing that i have noticed since getting my galaxy nexus in december is that it seems as if ICS changed the way the pause/play function works with bluetooth audio.
My Pause/play button on my head unit doubles as the head unit's menu button and in the past it was no big deal. The only thing is, I have read that people hold down their pause play button to get music to pause with ICS, but when I hold that button down, it goes to my head unit's menu.
I can play music fine, as I just tap the button and it works, but I cannot pause it. I have tried 6 different music apps and have had no success with pausing music via my head unit.
Has anyone else had this issue or found a way to change the way the bluetooth button actions work? Like is there a way to change the reaction time so I can just tap the button to pause it?
Anyone bump

Had anyone figured out how to allow music apps to use the headset button? By default vlingo takes it over, and I was not able to override it. I didn't realize how much I depended on play/pause and double click for next track until I lost it. Spend lots of time at airports and in the plane listening to google music and slacker...
so annoying!
No luck using it in any music app I tried.
and I thought my headset was malfunctioning
This problem is like a black hole, everywhere I've seen it mentioned it just goes silent. This issue is really ruining my experience with this otherwise great phone. I used the headset buttons all the time on my old phone and never realized just how much I was addicted to the convenience until this phone proved just how much the lack of that function sucks.
So my question is... does anyone know if any of the ROMs will resolve this problem? I'll root this phone and flush vlingo right smooth down the toilet if it will give me back a functioning wired headset button.
Also, just to rub salt into the wound a friend has the AT&T version of the phone and the headset button on my headphones works just fine on his. *grumbles*
I picked this up from Amazon, as I'm quite fond of my current in-ear headphones and didn't want to buy something else that had an integrated remote.
Only the main button is supported. Neither of the volume buttons respond.
It works natively with ICS and Galaxy Nexus. If you aren't using a third-party Music App, it will automatically call up the default Music application and start playing. Double-press to skip. No support for triple-press.
Since I use PowerAMP, I'll also mention that the app has an option to respond to Headset buttons. This intercepts the Headset's commands -- you don't get crazy things like two Music apps playing at the same time. Long-press to skip ahead is the default, though an option in settings allows for Double/Triple-press and works as advertised.
Hopefully this helps some of you looking for Android headset remotes without having to switch headphones/earbuds.
Along those lines, I ended up with a similar product. I had similar results to yours (no surprise.) The cord isn't very substantial and it looks flimsily made, but hey, it was only $5 and it gives me an easy way to pause without digging my phone out of my pocket. I was pleased to see that it works with BeyondPod (with the internal player.)
Hm.... In theory this should also work when using an aux cable to plug the phone into my car stereo for music. Instead of navigating the lockscreen to skip tracks or pause I could just hit the button on the adapter.
I like this!
Hi Guys
Strange one here.
I picked up a new van tonight with a bluetooth stereo that supports streaming audio over bluetooth so i thought i would give it a go.. music played but then kept on skipping to the next track. weird i thought and played around but couldnt get it to stop doing it.
I then dropped it into car mode (with no charger attached) and the thing will now not come out of car mode every time i press the home button it loads car mode. restarted several times and still does it. It also keeps randomly starting to play music!
When i plug in the USB cable the home button returns to its function of opening all panels preview or returning to home, but the music keeps on randomly starting... oh and now it keeps going to the panel preview by itself.
Anyone else had this? its doing my head in.. its as tho someone is controlling it!
1.28 aussie version VF branded...

if you can get into settings go to apps > all and find "car" click it and trying clearing data if that doesn't work go back and disable it, that should stop it coming up till you find a fix.
Also i believe that the "skip" on BT headphones is due to Beats Audio nopt sure if that's track skipping or just the music stopping for a seconds either way try disabling beats.
Thanks..
I disabled car app but it carried on doing it.. which was wierd. Restarted it a few more times and it carried on doing it and playing music randomly.
I uninstalled Jays headset control and it seems to have stopped it (as did pressing the power button for 10sec+) may try installing jays again... and try it.
Is jays capable of controlling bluetooth also? i will try enabling car app too.
Any one know of a headset control that allows configurable button presses but works on just the plugin headset?
when i mentioned skip.. it was actual track skip to the next track.. rather the 1.26 skip which was a noise while playing the track..
As a side note.. when i plugged the usb into the computer the 'what do you want to do' type window didnt appear as it should. With the hard restart and jays gone.. it now does!
Cheers for the reply..
Steve
OK tried it in the van this morning, and i now have NO issues.
Looks like Jays was the culprit, worked great for wired but not so for bluetooth. It now works extremely well with the car stereo with the exception that it doesnt transmit the track name etc.. but that may be the headunit (standard hyundai one)
Thanks
Steve
Hi there,
Has anyone found a pair of good headphones with a mic that are compatible with advanced commands such as volume up/down, next track etc.? My pair of Sennheisers can start and stop, but none of the more advanced settings worked. I tried various apps to assign actions to one button headsets and had no luck at all. Actually, even the basic functions of start/stop are lost when those apps are active. To my knowledge the only headphones that have been reported to retain advanced button assignments are these ones: Samsung ehs64avfbe, but I am reluctant to buy a Fairphone one the one hand and a cheap pair of headphones on the other.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Headphones update
OK, I took the plunge and bought a pair of Senheiser MM 30G. My reasoning was that I had seen somewhere that a pair of cheapish Samsung headphones worked well with the fairphone, and that the MM 30G had been manufactured for Samsung phones. The headphones have a three button command, which are supposed to be volume up/down as well as a start/stop button, which will also answer and end calls.
Out of the box the buttons actually did: next song instead of volume up, and previous song instead of volume down. The middle button for start stop works fine. This is acceptable for me, as I can change the volume quite easily even without taking the phone or of my pocket (the volume rocker is quite tactile even through jeans).
Interestingly, when using different apps to assign button controls I could get the volume control to work via the remote on the headphones, but no long press options e.g. For next song were available. I am thus using them as they are with no extra apps, as being able to skip songs while cycling is important to me.
Hope this helps a bit.

I have a Verizon G3 but figure this forum gets more eyeballs, and perhaps this is a universal Bluetooth issue.
I use the LG Tone+ HBS-730 headset with my phone. If I go into a music app and start playing music through my headphones with the app, no problem. But, let's say I pause music for a while, or turn the headphones off for a bit. I turn the headphones back on, press the play button on the right side, and nothing happens. The headset is still on - I can long-press a button and get the double-beep, but my music won't play. Sometimes it does, but most of the time, it doesn't. I switched from the stock Music player to Rocket Player, which has proven to be a little more successful.
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, or is this a common BT occurrence? Control is through the AVRCP BT profile, I believe. I know on my G2 I'd sometimes lose control sync with my phone, where I couldn't skip or pause the track through my headphones. This new problem seems like a magnification of that problem.
Overall, I do find the BT performance a little worse than the G2. I get more audio drops when the phone is in my pocket, but this is when I'm outside and BT is not great outside in general.
Thanks everyone - I have five days to decide if I want to return this phone, between this and some signal problems.
bluetooth connects. calls ok. media plays on device.

I come from the philippines and i have the g3 also. my bluetooth connection was fine it connected to my car and headset but now it only receives calls but does not play music through my bluetooth headphones. when i press the play button on my headset it plays on the device itself. checked under bluetooth setting and call and media and audio was checked.
my device is rooted. i did a factory reset but the problem remains unfixed. please help. i have installed g3 tweaksbox but i dont see any mods that is related to music apps. i dont know what to do. i have considered unrooting and flashing stock rom.
Also interested in this, as I have the same issue but my car.
Op, did you ever find a fix, or work around?
OP
Do you have any other BT programs loaded? I had something similar when I had the Sony app and a Garmin app loaded. Both use BT to connect to their devices and they were interfering. I removed the Garmin one and my play/pause button started working again
