sound not working right - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

alright,
Just bought a used gnex for my girlfriend and setting it up now.
Everything went fine (unlocked bootloader, flashed cwm + aokp b31 + franco kernel)
But after i set everything up i recognized that there is no sound coming out of the speakers. I rebooted several times and sometimes it worked after a reboot sometimes not.
So i tried some kernels and roms (cm9) but i got the same strange behaviour:
After some reboots there will be no sounds coming out of the speakers... (tried ringtones, yt videos,...)
I noticed that sometimes at first the sound works (when typing in the pin code) but after a short period of time the sound is gone too.
Last step i flashed the official factory image from the google site and relocked the bootloader and everything worked fine....
whats causing this? i would like to use custom roms on this phone

Did you wipe after installing the custom rom/kernel?

yes i did
wiped data/cache/dalvik

Have you tried BAMF Paradigm and if so, what is the status of the sound? I am not knocking any of the other roms out there, but that is one I have personal involvement with and have complete knowledge of.

Have you tried to use stock AOKP kernel? Had no issues with that one.

Could be a faulty headphone plug where is phantom senses a headset. Do sound get out of the headset?
Also try my app here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22244838&postcount=8 (unzip to get apk) which forces the sound to the speaker even if the phone senses that it has a headset connected.

Cyanogen 7.2 Ringtones and notifications not working

So i installed 7.2.0RC1 on my desire and it worked perfectly for 2 days but i've noticed this morning that when im getting calls or messages the phone isn't making a noise and notifying me of this.
I checked that I wasnt accidently on silent and I wasnt, so checked volumes, all ok, and then I decided to look at the ringtones and select a different one and where each one is supposed to give you a little preview of the tone im getting nothing.
Im really at a loss, has anyone else had this problem or knows how to solve it, its handy being made aware when someones trying to contact me
I had this on the nightly prior to the RC1. Reboot and the ringtones should be back but you have to re-assign them I think.. and yeah it will probably happen again.

Tried rebooting and still nothing off previews or anything, its just kinda weird for a RC for this to happen, might have to go back down to 7.1.0 until the bugs are ironed out, thank god for nandroid.
Still might have a solution pop up here before i get round to doing that
Did you modify the rom? Change or remove ringtone files you don't need?
Even I had same problem various times. Rebooting solves the issue everytime.
I didn't modify the rom at all and rebooting doesnt solve it, come to think about it, its happening since i used a pair of headphones for the first time
Do you use any Bluetooth headset? Usually when I use mine it happens what you have described and the only quick fix was to make a reboot. I didn't tested it yet on CM7.2 RC1 but the issue was present in CM7.1 Stable.
I use Rings Extended, it`s perfect
Today I tested the CM7.2 RC1 ROM with my Bluetooth headset and so far it is working with no problems (no sound issues like you mentioned). Now I just have to see if it would also stay this way in the few days.
I also found that some users had the problem described in the first post when they were using usual cord headphones but so far I hadn't experienced any problems with them although I'm suing them almost every day since the CM7.2 RC1 ROM release day.

[Q] Boost in-call volume?

For some reason my in-call volume is ought to null.
++Are there any good programs or anything i can use to "boost" it.?+++
I cant even hear it ring. i can barely make out the voice on the voicemail and that woman is usually screamin at me, "YOU HAVE NO NEW MESSAGES... FIRST SAVED MESSAGE"
I dont think its a software issue, as i have wiped my phone and installed a few roms on my phone and it sounds the same with all of them.
The only thing i did recently is install the v6 supercharger. (which works amazingly) my phone is faster then my friends Galaxy s2.
Also i got a new sim card from t-mobile now that i think of it (apparently i had a 2g card). but I still had sound for a while after that.
I tried a couple programs, volume+(sound boost) being the only one to show any sign that it was doing anything.
But all it seemed to do was make the volume bar have more notches. like i could fine tune my volume but it wouldnt go any louder.
??Are there any flashable zips or scripts that i can run. or change some code with root explorer or terminal emulator?????
By the way i cant use ADB. for some reason it wont work on my computer.
no one? am i in the wrong forum?
it sound like software, do a full wipe and flash a known stable working rom, maybe elitemod cm7
if this dosent work I couldn't tell you, I've never heard of a cell phone speaker just not being able to support the proper volume, either it won't work at all or it should work fine.
the only hardware related fault I could think of is the main flex cable but again I would just assume if there was an issue there it just wouldn't work at all
so again, wipe all, superwipe, fastboot -w
flash stable rom
hope for the best

No audio when calling

Hi everybody, for about a week I experience the following annoying problem. When I call someone or receive a call I don't hear the person on the other side of the line through the normal speaker. When I switch to loudspeaker I can hear them loud and clear. The strange thing is that it does not always happen. It is definately not a hardware problem, the speaker sometimes works fine. When I can't hear the person on the other side pressing the volume-up button several times sometimes solves the problem and suddenly the audio works...
I noticed the problem earlier this week after I flashed CM 7.1 again. Before I had an Andromous rom with ICS installed, but I didn't like that one so I flashed my good ol' CM 7.1 again. When I noticed the problem I upgraded to CM 7.2 (with full-wipe) and also flashed another radio. Unfortunately all these things did not work...
Does someone have any idea how I can fix this annoying problem?
Right now the call function of my phone is pretty useless
Ps. the person on the other side of the line can always hear me.
full wipe, multiple rom flashes, even with it being intermidete it sounds like hardware, slight chance the flex is going bad, more likely the speaker needs to be replace or at least fiddled with. any recent drops?

It is certainly not a hardware issue. When I install Skype and dial the Echo / Sound Test Service I can hear the everything just fine through the earpiece.
then you aren't wiping properly, fastboot -w or superwipe or both. the stock dialer doesn't have sound issues that I'm aware of and there must be curroption somewhere. change the radio will not change this, flash a vinilla rom after a full wipe and see what happens, don't restore anything

*kick*
Still having this problem...Back on CM 9 (RC2) after wiping everything and again flashing a new radio. Matched RIL and everything. Nothing seems to work. Microscope is still working sometimes, but most of the times it doesn't. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

FrostyJB+Kroonsez= bad phone call quality?

Ever since I've flashed this rom and kernel, i've noticed bad sound quality while on a call. Especially if I'm plugged to my car stereo via aux- I have to turn up quite a lot than usual and I can still barely hear. The call quality through the hand set is a little more forgiving but the volume is lower than usual. Another thing I noticed is that when on a call, the call volume settings slide, but seems to be nonresponsive in regards to functionality (i actually turned volume way down during a call and remained the same volume). Any fixes or thoughts?
Could try flashing some different kernels and radios

Reflash the rom to overwrite that kernel. I use the same rom wit stock kernel and all is well.

I had the same setup yesterday. I noticed the bad sound quality as well. It was fast but not as stable as with the stock kernel. I wiped cache and fix permissions after full day of use to see if that would help any and then my phone got stuck in a boot loop, lost recovery, and root. Had to flash samsung recovery and stock rom with odin.
Just a tip. But I never flash a kernel when trying a new build for at least the first day. That way if you have problems its much easier to tell if its rom or kernel related.
If you're running one of the jb based roms, djintrigue posted the stock kernels yesterday.
Flash one of those and see if it stops.

Urgent and Serious issue with audio! HELP needed. please!

Guys, I have this one major issue with audio in my phone and its the rarest of the problems! The whole audio output stops completely. By completely, i mean even the receiver sound. completely dumb! cant hear anything if someone calls me. This has been occurring since a month or so. I am running on Cyanogenmod 11 M8. Even if i restart the phone its stays the same way. And all of sudden, randomly, the audio back again, working properly. when it goes dumb it stays like that for 5 6 hours. it happens quite often. this is throwing me off totally.
Device : Galaxy S3 SGH i747 - At&t
This problem happens:
1) when i am on call, suddenly it goes mute.
2) when the phone is kept idle for more than 3 4 hrs. So every morning its dumb when i wake up.
These are what I've tried and what I've found out:
1) I reverted back to stock 4.3 to check if its the problem with audio hardware. But in stock it worked perfectly and flawlessly. no issues there. SO its definitely got to do with cyanogenmod.
2) I flashed ktoonsez kernel on CM 11 M8, to check if its kernel problem. But its happening again. SO its not the problem with kernel.
3) I recently found out that if I wipe the cache from recovery, audio is back working. SO its definitely something in the cache thats messing with the audio. Some app may be.
this thread can be referred for more details on this issue:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/81373-audio-stops-working-from-time-to-time/
and I dont know what else to do now. Ive tried uninstalling all the apps that access audio. But the problem still persists.
I really really need help fixing this one. PLEASE HELP.

I've had that issue a month or two ago but haven't seen it on the latest ROMs. I'm not sure what causes it but I would suggest you flash another ROM if CM messes up with your sound (or another version of CM).

Hi, Thanks for the response. I personally like CM and the extent of customization it offers. I actually dont mind switching cuz sound is bigger deal. Would you mind suggesting ROMs that are similar or comes closer to CM and also good at the same time? which ROM are you on?

Hey it got fixed in the latest nightly ( cm-11-20140721-NIGHTLY ). I had put it in cyanogenmod forum, I guess they read the issue and fixed it. Audio is perfectly fine now! Feels so great to use cyanogenmod again.
Thank you cyanogenmod!
I have this issue too but it doesn't have to do with the audio disappearing; it's simply gone from the get-go after clean flashing a ROM.
As you've said, stock FW and ROM works fine, but anything custom will just totally break it. Seems to be a very isolated issue with the phone itself, I've searched all over for people with the same problem but could never find anything.

Oh. It used to happen to me once or twice. No audio when I install CM, after it boots the first time. I think you should check the new nightly of 7/23. Looks like its fixed. They've fixed a number of audio issues over the last few nightlies. And I've always preferred CM over any other roms, so I've no idea about why it isn't working on other roms.

Thanks for the suggestion, I may as well give it a try since most everything else I've tried has had the same issue.
edit:
Clean flashed latest CM nightly, sound worked for around 2 minutes, then stopped when I plugged headphones in. Rebooted, got it to work via speakers again but then DSP manager force closed and left me without sound.
Rebooted into recovery, cleared cache, still no dice.
Going to try another clean flash to see if I can get sound to last a while longer.
edit 2: It seems to be screwed completely now, no sound after install + reboot.
