Sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find a similar thread.
What ringtone are you using? How do you choose them, by what criteria?
I choose simple quiet tones because I don't want to startle when it starts ringing unexpectedly. I also use only instrumentals, I don't like vocals (probably a habit from the past, when phones didn't sing but ring).
Here's mine
Silent Hill Theme.
This one:
Just default cyantone and cyanmessage from cm9

Usually I have my phone on vibrate, I don't even know what ringtone i have.
here's mine, the song from Game of Thrones, It's awesome for a ringtone or wake up tone.
Standard I'm using F1 Ferrari sound from Zedge.
When the wife is calling, Darth Vader saying: The Dark Side Of The Force is Calling You
Crazy Dream!!!
Love it so much!!!

My Ringtone: Mike Oldfield - Harbinger
Message Sound: Regulus (from Cyanogenmod)
I like Curve Ball Blend
this one: MegaMan 3 - Stage Select (Doni's Chillout Remix)
yellow angry birds for notification, and for phone i'm using the old nokia sound, it's makes my friends were confused
This as ringtone and cyanmessage for sms
It changes every now and then in my case. I've been customizing my own ringtones for the last four years.
Usually instrumental. Sometimes video game related. Often electronic or pop music. I'll sample the loops myself most of the time.
Right now its the instrumental Family Guy theme.
In the past I've used songs from:
LMFAO, Black Eyed Peas, Prodigy, Edward Maya, Daft Punk.
Other mentionables: the presidential hotline from Our Man Flint, the theme for One Must Fall 2097, Trololo, and the Itchy and Scratchy Show theme.
I have also recorded/copied over ringtones from my previous cellphones (Samsung SCH-n370, SCH-m510 and SGH-T746. The fact all my phones have been Samsung is more coincidence than anything.)
Some notifications I use:
-the Starcraft 1 Probe ready sound for SMS from my girlfriend.
-one work colleague has the Road Runner "Meep Meep" assigned.
-the horns from the show Kaamelott for e-mails (previous)
Alarms:
-the Duke Nukem 3D theme "Grabbag"
-Kid Cudi - Day N Nite (Crookers Remix)

Get it before MS forces it to be taken down..
isn't this the alpha that came out ages ago?
Nope.. this was released two days ago.. 20th May.. Lots of fixes.. Bringing it to the xda community..
This. Is. Beautiful.
I love how it grabs a picture of the artist from Last.FM and use it as a background. Eye candy it might be, but damn fine it is.
As expected of an alpha release, there are quite a few bugs, and it seems to have problem playing VB mp3 files, but it definitely has potential.
Nice. Works for me. This has potential.

WOW. Beautiful! Too bad it doesn't have equalizer and stuff anywhere, but i might not have looked properly.
Yeah.. its just something else! looks amazing.. definitely a head turner compared to the stock player
Thanks, it's really nice.
welcome.. do click my thanx button if you found it useful.. thanx
Already seen it ln engadget. A bit lacking on features, but for an alpha it works amazing. I have had almost no fc, and it looks amazing.
Waiting in anticipation for future updates

Yes, this is now my preferred music player, having loaded version 3. Very polished and smooth even at this early stage.
However, found the genre section picking up odd or non existent (as far as I was concerned) labels. Tried various methods to resolve it, but the only thing that has worked is using 'video & genre cleaner' app from the market and totally sorted out the genre labels...just in case anyone else comes across this.
As a side note did anyone get a pop up on installation about this stopping in early July and informing that it should then be available on the market?
Having loaded & unloaded it initially to try to sort out the genre issue, it hasn't come up again during install.

I like this project it runs like a charm. I love the feature that it shows the picture from the artist.
Hey guys,
Ok, quick question. I noticed the other day while waiting for my java class to "run" (haha see what I did there) and the guy across from me has what I think was a cry-phone. I heard his texts come in a few times and each time he had a different ringtone. (at least it seemed so.) It cycled through like 3 or 4 different ones before restarting the loop.
**Note I do NOT mean that the ringtone kept replaying, instead I mean it ran as.
ringtone A. (stop)..... (new text) Ringtone B. (stop).... (new text) ringtone C. (stop).... (new text) ringtone A. etc.
Is there a way to do this for the Epic?
Ex. One ringtone = "Hey!" (Navi) Second = "Listen!" (Navi again)
Thanks Guys
Yay! Zelda fan
I'm not sure but id look into it possibly an app that does it or a customization that his ROM has the ability of.

Are u sure that the phone is made to loop the ringtones as u say or could it just be that he has a different ringtone for let's say 3 ppl and the same 3 ppl would txt him in the same order lol?

So I just received my Galaxy Nexus phone yesterday and I am very excited to be on the cutting edge again
So i'm just wondering.
When one of your buddies asks you if you could show them your phone, how do you show off your Galaxy Nexus phone to others?
I assume the way you show your phone off depends on the person you're showing it to.
for example, if I'm showing this phone off to my fellow android fans, then I'd probably just mention the key points such as NFC, and its on ICS.
but how would you WOW someone who's using a blackberry? Or using a windows phone? or using an iPhone?
I have a few ideas but wanted to hear feedback from users on this forum
Here's what some of you are posting:
1) Just show off the mere sight of a superior phone
2) Android ICS
3) Screen Size
4) face unlock
5) gallery picture widget
6) shutter speed
7) photo effects
8) android beam
9) multi-tasking, easy swipe to close apps
10) swipe notifications to remove them
11) re-sizable widgets
12) flick through album widgets photos
13) flick through subscribed videos youtube widget
14) panorama camera
15) speech to text on any text input field
16) "Grab the phone, press the mic, say "Navigate to <insert destination here>" and hand them the phone..." lol thanks BinkXDA
17) Using Google Wallet in front of friends
18) HD Youtube videos in fullscreen
19) CRT Lockscreen animation
20) "Scrolling in the app launcher (seeing the next page coming out from below the current one)."
21) "Scanning your friends' NFC debit cards and part of their card number showing on your screen."
22) Nova launcher 3d effect
23) notification light (light flow)
24) "plugging a USB cord and Mouse & essentially turning the phone into a computer which it already is and then showing it on the TV Monitor"
25) "Pull out your standard battery and replace with an extended. iPhone users would probably be amazed. "
You wouldn't have to even use your phone to impress someone using an I phone... They would be down at just the sight of a superior phone.
Android ICS! Nuff said ;-)
Few ways...
1. Take the phone out. Insta-Jelousy!
2. Compare ANY phones screen size to the gnex and show it off.
3. If necessary, whip out face unlock.
4. Customization, try to show as much off as you can (ie:change button colors on the bottom bar)
5. optional-Screen pictures, shutter speed, photo effects...
As long as any person with an iphone uses the statements "i love my iphone" (general common backup iphoner defence statement" or "eh, does it do...". Then you won!
As for people with blackberries, apparantly a crappy keyboard that is hard to click, and bbm is enough for them to COMPLETELY be ignorant to everything around them. blackberry users could care less about screen size. Why? ignorancy!
I personally also use this - http://www.amazon.com/Green-Android..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1333734122&sr=1-2 as well.
Loads of my friends have android phones but they have like htc sensation or htc sensation XE or htc sensation XL lol... You get the point.
Me and my buddy both have a Gnex so we like to beam **** to each other for funsies.
We be all like oh have you seen this video on youtube... Oh ok ill beam it to you.
Oh ive downloaded a sick app... Here ill beam it to you
They HTC crew no likey when we show off
Google chrome is also a nice app for ICS to flash around.
The new "task manager" is kinda nice to jump between apps and swipe to kill.
I like how you can swipe notifications away from the pull down shade too.
All these little things can really turn people green when you show them all in a row.
Re sizeable widgets on the default home launcher
Youtube widget to flick through your subscribed videos...
Album widget to flick through photos...
0 shutter lag when taking pictures...
Panorama mode...
You get the point.
Edit: oh yeah... 4.65 inch 720p screen is kinda sweet too... Just thought i'd throw that in too
Grab the phone, press the mic, say "Navigate to <insert destination here>" and hand them the phone...
Watch their eyes open as they realize how much their <insert make and model of any other phone here> sucks...

No, but most have a navigation app that's pretty good and you're not going to impress any Siri user with voice command
Every time I just switch between portrait and landscape mode and show them how cool the soft keys are! No physical buttons on front of the phone = sweetness.
I just use my phone to pay for something using Google wallet. Instant envy everytime.

I've found that it's the simple things that really wow people. Here are some of the things that I've gotten many comments about:
-The CRT lockscreen animation.
-YouTube videos in fullscreen HD (over WiFi) - this really gets people, they say "wow, it looks so HD" and then I say "it is HD - 720p".
-Paying for your food at McDonald's. Shocks your buddies as well as the people behind the till.
-Scrolling in the app launcher (seeing the next page coming out from below the current one).
-Scanning your friends' NFC debit cards and part of their card number showing on your screen.
Nothing. All my iphone friend don't feel jealous of my gn.

Used NFC for the first time at McDonalds today and by the reaction, I am pretty sure I was the first one to use it at that one. The girl working the register told her friend working there that I just paid with my phone...she proceeded to say "the Iphone has an app for that too". I just shook my head and walked away. Poor misguided souls.
The only thing that's made an iPhone user jealous of any Android phone I've owned is being able to pull out my phone, scan a bar code and have the warranty and/or system information from any bit of Dell kit we have on site, from laptops to SAN's. Other than that we have completely different uses for our phones, and where my GNex is better for browsing the web or doing little random tasks, the iPhone is far better for gaming.
It's probably a patent issue, but is there a way to hear the standard touch tones when dialing? I'd like to at least have a beep instead of that bubble noise when I dial a number.

:good:
I downloaded it and it is what should have been stock. The ability to hear the standard tones is only the beginning. I have missed the ability to simply start out in the dialer and not whatever was used last. The calls I make are on the speed dial. I'll try it out. But I think I'm going to keep it.
So, why is the flagship phone of Samsung using a drip sound for the keys? It seems that it is a standard of the industry. The patent for the tones must have run out 40 years ago.
Anyone got an answer?

I don't think it's patent related. Only reason I can think of is because Samsung designed the S3 with a nature theme in mind, the water drip sounds are all over the place: the lockscreen, touch sounds, dialer.

By no means am I taking credit for this. I have copied this over from the 9505 with permission from IRONMAN link to original thread
I will be maintaining this thread over here.....
As said per IRONMAN:
Hello, everyone. I have decided to make this Recommend-An-App thread so that YOU can share your favorite apps with everyone in this community.
****BUT THERE IS ONE CONDITION NO SUPER POPULAR APPS****
Don't post apps like PowerAMP and Flipboard and Swiftkey. EVERYONE knows about these apps.
The purpose of this thread is to make everyone aware of new apps which are largely unheard of. Apps which are not so popular. I was too tired of seeing numerous lists full of apps I already knew about.
So everyone, start posting! A brief summary would be appreciated (Unless the name is self-explanatory) as well as a PlayStore link (we all are too lazy to search for ourselves)
I will try to keep this list as up-to-date as possible.
1) Atom Launcher- A great launcher with many options for customization while maintaining a minimalistic look. I personally recommend Typo Black Theme to go along with it.

Typo Black Theme- https://play.google.com/store/apps/...oZXJleC50aGVtZS5OYW11U01vZGVyblR5cG9CbGFjayJd
2) WordWeb - In my opinion, THE best dictionary out there. Why? Because its offline. Doesn't require an internet connection!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...53b3Jkd2Vic29mdHdhcmUuYW5kcm9pZC53b3Jkd2ViIl0.
3) Wallbase - I've tried 'em all and nothing has helped me find better wallpapers than this app. And most of them are full HD.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jaXRjLndhbGxiYXNlIl0.
4) LyricsPlayer - This app shows a notification on the status bar when you're playing music, clicking on it automatically searches for the lyrics and displays them.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5saW5rLmFuZHJvaWQubHlyaWNzcGxheWVyIl0.
5) Holo Compass - The most minimalistic and cool looking compass around.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsInBsLnN1cml4LmhvbG8uY29tcGFzcyJd
6) Circle Alarm - A holo themed and minimalistic alarm app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS50amVhbm5pbi5hbGFybSJd
7) Node- Just a super cool live wallpaper

9) T.E.A.M. Battery Bar - This displays a coloured bar on top of the status bar showing the battery level (remember MIUI?). A must have for me.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=42539176
12) Phone Addict - This great little app counts how many times I check my phone. Over a period of time, shows the day I checked my phone the most times, the least times, and how often I check on average.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5wYW5kdXRlY2hub2xvZ3kucGhvbmVhZGRpY3RmcmVlIl0.
13) Llama - For me this app is a MUST HAVE. I'll explain how it works. Basically, when you're at home or at work, your phone is getting signal from multiple cellphone towers nearby. What this app does is remember these towers and triggers certain profiles when they are in the vicinity. So, when I reach home, my phone automatically turns silent and when none of these towers are in range i.e. when I'm outside, it automatically increases the ring volume. You'll have to let it scan once, of course.

15) Plasma Sound HD - This is a super cool app which lets you create music which is visually stunning too. Try it out yourself.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5yai5wcm9jZXNzaW5nLnBsYXNtYXNvdW5kaGQiXQ..
16) Sensor Music Player - A music player which lets you use various sensors to change track, pause etc. For example, if I'm using my headphones and my phone is in my pocket, I can just tap my pocket to change the track. Pretty cool. eh?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...2JpbGVfaW5mb2dyYXBoaWNzX3Rvb2xzLm15ZHJpdmUiXQ..
20) Pew Pew - It is a retro style arcade game which is one of my all time favourite mobile games. Must try.

This app lets you lock the ringer, or any other volume, in a specific spot.

Full Screen Caller ID - It delivers just what it sounds like it's promising. It puts a full screen HD picture as the call screen instead of the stock Android one. There are 5 or 6 other apps that do the same thing but I've been using this one since I had a MyTouch3G when it was the only one of it's kind available and I couldn't live without it now. It's very customizable so you can make the screen look pretty much anyway you want for an incoming call and set whatever picture you want for each person in your address book. It also makes answerign and ignoring easy as you can swipe across any part of the screen. See the atatchement for what one of my friend looks like on an incoming call...you can add the phone number, make it landscape, change the font or text size, add answer and reject buttons or take them away as I have etc etc etc. And you can get to the original phone app with the dial pad and what not with a simple double tap on the screen.
I've never been able to figure out why this isn't stock with Android personally. That's how much I love this app.
