Dear all,
I have tried installing three of the most famous mods here, being Hell, Energy and Reloaded, and I have the same exact problem with all, my wireless router does not appear in the scan list.
Weird as it is, when I flashed the GR8 modded 6.3 stock rom, it started detecting my wireless router again. It is important to note that my neighbor's router appears just fine on all mods, but my DLink DIR-655 doesn't appear at all.
My laptop, ipad 2 and ps3 are all connected to it, just not the KF when any non-stock rom is installed.
Any work around to this? Please advise.
if you are getting other wifi's to show up, then it's probably some sort of issue with your router. Try changing the channel. Perhaps also you have turned off broadcasting for new devices at some point ?

Before you get to far try flashing a different rom anything that's gr8 and modded isn't stock lol fashioned after stock but nonetheless not stock you can also try adding the network through advanced options or rebooting your router so it becomes recognizable again
ditto
Has your issue been resolved because I have the same exact problem. When i first got my kindle it recognized my network but after being rooted and trying several roms it does not see my network. My laptop / xbox / roku / phone all see my network but the kindle does not. I see all my neighbors networks. Please let me know if you came across a fix for this. Thanks.
Jon
I also have problems connecting to some wifi networks on ICS builds. However, I was able to connect to those with CM7 builds.
My work around thus far was downloading an app called Connectify and installing it on my laptop. It creates a wireless hotspot with my existing wireless network. Surprisingly the kf connects to the hotspot.

Ever find a fix for this? I'm having the same problem.

I seem to be having some strange issues since I upgraded to WM 6.1 on my Dash. When I activate the wireless and let it discover my access point (configured with WPA-PSK) it finds it but then refuses to connect (marking it as offline).
Switching the wireless off/on doesn't resolve this as it will no longer even pick up my Access Point. Only when I reboot the phone will it pick it up again and then I am in the circle whereby it won't connect etc.
Are there any tools/settings I can change to clear the device out of any wireless config info (besides from doing a re-flash)? I think it just needs to be reset back to default and that will cure it as it was working ok a while before.
Thanks.
Might be your access point. Picking up the signal and connecting are two different things. I am running the Kavana ROM and it works fine against my Belkin Wirless Router G via WPA-PSK.
Can you connect using no security? (or WEP?)

Thanks am going to try that. It looks like it could be my router as I recently changed it but when I swapped back to my old router I still had the same issues.
What wireless version is enabled on the Dash - is it 11b? I am wondering if its that as my new router has 11n capability.
Yep it was my router. New firmware has fixed it.
For reference its Draytek Vigor 2820n
I've got a 2820vn and am having the excat same issues...what firmware did u update to?

I am using the 3.2.1 beta 12 firmware provided by Draytek support. I have uploaded a copy here:

Let me know if it solves your issue too.
After installing the Froyo update yesterday I seem to be having troubles with my WiFi connection. The connection is being dropped after a half an hour or so and I'm unable to reconnect at that time. The Desire just keeps connecting and disconnecting to my network.
I need to reset my router in order to re-establish the connection but it gets dropped again after a half an hour.
I did not experience these problems on the previous version, I did however experience something like it when I connected my PS3 to the router via WiFi in the past. After I done that I wasn't able to connect on my laptop. But I switched to a cable for the PS3 after that anyway.
Is it possible that something on the Desire triggers an overload in the router that causes it to malfunction? I'm unable to connect with my laptop when the connection is dropped on the Desire as well.
It's a Belkin f5d7632-4, which is actually a modem-router, but after disabling the DHCP server it functions fine as a wireless router.
Thank you in advance for any ideas.
If I can't find a solution I think I have to get a new wireless router, I can't go without WiFi on my Desire at home!
If that's the case, advice for a new wireless router is welcome as well. Please post the brand and type and if it's functioning fine with the new Froyo for you.
I have the same issue. I went from standard, unbranded 2.1 to OTA 2.2 like a good citizen, but now it won't connect to my belkin wirless N router, but it DOES connect to my SKY netgear router.
What's the deal?
Yes, I've spotted some more Belkin N1 users on (the dutch website) Tweakers.net with the same problem.
I retain a good connection for about half an hour. They seem to be having the same problem right from the start.
I have a similar problem with a BT HomHub 2.0 but it drops the WiFi randomly however I do not reset the router just turn the WiFi Off and On on the phone and the Desire reconnects. My Desire will also change which SSID its connected too, i.e. from my own SSID to BT Fon or BT Openzone (I have them both turned on in my Home Hub) again to get back to my own SSID I have to stop and restart the WiFi on the phone, simply asking it to move back to my own SSID doesnt work.
Just had a call with HTC Netherlands and they advised me to try it on a different network/router and/or do a factory reset to a clean 2.2.
Has anyone tried the factory reset? I doubt that will do any good. A different router would seem to work according to Jammy1 (and I didn't expect otherwise).
Apparently something killed the compatibility between Belkin routers and Android 2.2 ?!
do you guys have the Bluetooth turned on?I realised when both the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on at the same time, the signals tend to clash thereby resulting to connection loss. Though,I experienced this on another android device (a tablet:Archos 5 AIT) especially when a major update occurs.Still waiting for my new Desire.
Random drops also on Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware...

No Bluetooth here. Never even used it.
Try turning off the bluetooth.
Bought myself a cheap Sitecom WiFi router and it works like a charm now. But I hope HTC wil fix this and other little bugs present in this version.
I had similar problems after upgrading to Froyo (custom rom) - the Wifi seemed to get connection then as soon as I tried to use it within the browser it dropped and tries to regain IP. After a bit of fiddling with settings I have found that
i) using channel 12 (12 and 13 are only available if router is set to America location) to avoid conflict with heavy wireless coverage in my area seems to help
ii) using WPA2 encryption seems to give a much stabler connection over WPA, although now and again it forgets the passkey data, even re-entering it fails, only solve was to turn wifi off then on for it to reconnect
still having this problem...
does anybody have some news on this ?
I can connect to my home router a linksys wrt600n with WPA2-PSK key but i cant connect to a belkin N1 with WPA2-PSK enabled.
I tried every setting on the belkin router, just cant get it to connet.
My device just keeps connecting and disconnecting, it gets an ip but cant connect...
What i haven't tried is setting a maual ip and see if it connects then.
If i set it to manual ip, it works.
Does anybody have some news on this ?
What channel is your router on? Read somewhere about it not liking anything over 11...
I've been having the same issue on my Desire and on HD2Android.
If a 2.1 ROM is loaded into either of my devices TKIP and AES work perfectly.
With 2.2 it only connects through my Marconi router and doesn't obtain an IP from my Belkin N1.
I don't think this is a device issue but rather a ROM/OS issue. After speaking with some Linux guys they seem to have the opinion that the driver on 2.2 doesn't resolve it's IP address with some routers. Especially higher end ones with added features like QoS ie Belkin/Linksys.

Yes that was my initial thought !
But my linksys is newer then my belkin and it has no problems connecting my phone.
The 2 wireless routers are configured the same.
On android 2.1 i had no problems.
is it possible to try and install the 2.1 wifi drivers on 2.2 ?
i had the same problem 2 months ago when i first got my Desire. worked at just about every damn wifi router but the one in my house.
did some reading, no one had an answer. just seemed that it worked on some and not on others. so, i went out to the store and i picked up a Linksys after testing the linksys at the shop. my phone connected and had internet no problem. i thought, perfect, i'll take it.
brought it home, same problem. wifi connects and no internet. no setting would fix it. i brought it back to the store. and sure enough, we plugged that very router into their connection and my phone connected and worked. they obviously would not return the router because it works (and i live in a 3rd world country, forget about it).
so, **** if i could figure it out. i wound up using an older adsl/wifi router i had and no problems. but, i have a new linksys that is just sitting in a box...
its not your router, but the phone.
you can always sell the router on internet or the phone

I had contact with HTC Scandinavia and they also recommended a factory reset. But these guys haven't got a clue - they didn't even know this was a big problem after the froyo update. Weird when you think about it, I mean wifi is kind of a big thing for a smart phone.
But no, factory reset did NOT change a thing. And replying to other messages: this thing has nothing to do with what router you use. It seems totally random almost.
Hi guys, I'm having some serious issues with my DIR-655 and my Gio.
For a long time I was using the first Particle rom and all was fine. Ever since I've updates the ROM, the troubles started.
I've tried pretty much any ROM out there, and all disconnect from wifi.
The thing is, I do not see the Wifi icon disappear. There is just no internet for some reason, Wifi is still connected.
I can solve this by putting my router on G only, but if I do that I can't get full speed on my or my wife's laptop (both 802.11n).
Is there any way to force my Gio to connect through 802.11g, now it's connected through 802.11n.
Putting my router on G only is no option, I pay for high speeds so I wish to use it.
Many many thanks in advance.

had same problem like you did with my first router. i forgot the model. but was pretty much the same. the router worked perfectly with my laptop. in 2 month didnt get any disconnect on laptop. when i bought the phone it was useless. only solution that worked for me was to change it with a d-link.... sry the router is not compatible with the phone probably cuz of the operating system of the router.
This is a D-Link router. .
And before flashing to the newer 2.3.5 roms all was working fine.
Hi all,
I have done a search for this but cannot find someone with my exact problem so have given up and post my first thread. Still slightly a noob to this, however I cannot connect to my home WiFi. It gets stuck in a loop trying to receive a IP from the router, basically I can see the router but that is it.
My phone is running clockwork mod and a stable version of Cyanogen Mod 7.1. The router is a Belkin wireless N.
I have tried using a static IP on the phone, adding MAC address to router (90% sure both those details was input correctly) Adding the Wifi network manually to phone. I have tried connecting on to other WiFi's, have only managed to connected to half of the ones I have tried. It worked at the hotel I was staying at for work and my uncle's home network, but will not work at my uncle's work network or mine.
I don't think I have left anything out.
Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance

Are any of the networks you're trying to connect to use any security?
Also, run alogcat; maybe that will show where the errors are.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Yea, my uncle's home, work and my router use WPA/WPA2, cant remember the hotels one but I would imagine it would be the same. Oh also tried my router without security and it's still the same.
OK, doing a logcat now, but what do I do then? just looks like tons of code. Does it just loop over and over again?
Are there any known issues between android and belkin routers? as I have just remembered that my cousins android tablet and his Samsung S2 phone wont connect either and they are are not modified in anyway(rooted or custom roms)
I have an old Windows Mobile 6.5 phone (Touch Pro 2). I have an app that allows it to run as a wifi hotspot (install file is called mobilewifirouter.cab).
Other devices connect to the hotspot fine, but the kindle just doesn't see it... even when they're right next to each other. Otherwise the kindle wifi works ok.
Is there any way I can get this going? It's tedious having to constantly consider wifi availability when I'm travelling with it. Maybe the KF doesn't see anything using a very old 802.11 standard?
ad-hoc vs infrastructure
I think the issue is the phone itself. Or rather, the chip/radio only being able to broadcast on ad-hoc which the KF (and other new 'droid devices) doesn't support. I used the same wifi manager you did, same results...
I have a ATT Tilt 2, btw
I guess I have the same problem:
I'm trying to have my lg p500 (android 2.2.1) working as a wifi hotspot and access it from my galaxy tab (3.2) but I can't never "see" my network from it.
Other devices (laptop, nokia E71) can connect, but not the galaxy tab.
Galaxy tab can connect to other wifi networks, but not the one I create in my phone with "Wifi Thether" app.
Any workaround to fix this?
Thanks,
João
I think WM6.5 wifi router software uses Adhoc mode for wifi rather than infrastructure mode. Android cannot connect to adhoc wifi network unless you have a modified WPA supplicant file (which can make your android device unstable).
Kindle Fire and many smartphones/tables cannot connect to the internet via ad-hoc.
Use Connectify software to create a access point from your laptop.
It's a problem that is corrected easily, all you need is ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher. It works, VERY well.

If you are on Stock ROM and rooted, this is perfect
But, if you are on a CM9 ROM(unsure about others), there is no ad-hoc support yet...

He didn't really say if he was using stock or not. I just posted what I know works. If it is wrong for him/her, then I am wrong!
I tried the app on CM9 ROM's, it doesn't play friendly...
For anyone else who searched this thread and they're trying to connect to an android phone... just wanted to recommend FoxFi. I tried several other apps and they all failed (probably due to some quirk of the Kindle Fire's, everyone's recommending these apps). But FoxFi got the job done. But only if you run it without a password. If you're fed up trying to make the kindle connect to your phone, try it.

the problem here is that KF running CM9 or CM10 cant connect to an adhoc wifi yet, not the problem of the phone.
