What phone to buy. - Windows Phone 7 General

So i've been wanting a wp7 phone for awhile and my main carrier is sprint, but im just going to buy one with a bad esn and hopefully flash it to boost or some other company. My question is whats the best wp7 phone that isnt too terribly expensive with a bad esn that will flash to boost or something.
thanks jbb

htc hd7 if you want tons of ROMs, they are quite popular, I'm using a htc Mozart and I love it, but the lack of LED at the back means you can't use it as torch...
otherwise get a nokia lumia 710, those are cheap and got everything you would need, plus the removable backplate is pretty nice.

at this moment,i think lumia 900is the best choice,
lumia 800 is great if front camera and screen size doesn;t mean so much to u

Try the Lumia 800. It's a great feeling in your hands and not so expensive. Nokia gives everything to support their devices with new apps and the 800 is amazing fast.
If you want a bigger screen + front camera: the 900.

definately the lumia 800 or 900..if you want something new..
all other wps look soo similar..no innovativ design

Lumia 710,800,900 and samsung omnia..
Hit thanks if it helps....
Hackdroid...

HTC Hd7 if you want customize your ROM. Lumia 800 and 900 are greats too.

Ok, almost completely unrelated...
I was with my friend shopping at Mario's in Seattle today when I found an awesome pair of socks that matched my Cyan Lumia 800. While showing the sales woman the phone, another customer pulled out his Cyan 900.
What we both found to be funny was that I, the American, had imported my 800 from the UK, while he, the Brit, had bought his Lumia here.
That, and finding a bunch of cyan mannequins at Barney's. Fun, indeed.

[POLL] Would you buy a Nokia today?

No flame war, no discuss about the phone itself. Just wanna know how many of you would buy any Lumia if you could today.
Edit: Lets say it is already selling in your country and lets say that it costs €420/$585 (or just convert the price).
My option wasn't there.
"No way! Nokia has nothing"
Mine wasn't here either.
"Waiting for a 900 series from Nokia"
No way!!!!!!
So maybe you guys should hit "wait till Apollo", it's when they are releasing next devices (according to Nokia).
Well, until now, Nokia is doing fine!

Yeah hahahah. But the guy there.. well, whatever. If you think Nokia has nothing, another option may include you. Like moving to another phone like HTC Titan, or just to an iPhone/Android.
No thanks, no.
Not wasting money on underpowered devices.
Nope.

I can get by on 16 GB and lack of FFC. Unfortunately, importing a Lumia 800 pretty much costs the same as buying an unlocked iPhone 4s.

I voted yes but the real answer is yes when the price drops. I am fine with 16GB and I am not pretty enough to need a FFC.
Played with Lumia 800 in Phones4u. Screen is too small for my liking (in IE9 especially, the letter are so small) other than that I'm in love with it.
I was at Nokia conference today in Warsaw (after Nokia World 2011). I saw and take Lumia 710 and 800. So, these devices is nice, but not exciting. One problem they have - NO TETHERING (internet sharing). New devices from other producers have this option (Titan, Radar, etc.) why Nokia haven't ? I don't know. IMO Nokia want encourage customers Nokia Drive (turn by turn navigation) and if other developers do not do good app navigation for Europe - Nokia win this race.

I'm not going to change my beautiful HD7 till it gets unuseful. Think I will wait till Apollo to change device because it's really expensive to change devices in my country (The only WP7 that came here is LG Optimus 7 and it's announced but they don't have it in store so you have to bring your phone from USA or Europe ).
I can say the Lumia 800 design is beautiful, but it has a lot of waste (I call waste to the space between the end of the screen and the edge of the phone), the N9 have exactly the same size and it has a bigger screen and the front facing camera. My HD7 is not so big compared to the Lumia and it have 0.6' more of screen, and when someone see my phone they are impresed by the big screen and the amazing thing (not telling when you show the kickstand, they just come crazy )..
In my opinion I'll see what Nokia, HTC and Samsung does with Apollo and then make a decition. But if I have to decide now, I would go with a Titan or a Focus S!
I really want a bigger screen around the 4 to 4.5 inch mark and a front facing camera for Skype. There is no need for me to upgrade my LG Optimus 7 as it has all the same features and slightly bigger screen.
I might need to look at the Samsung S if Nokia take to long, Although I am not to fussed on how it looks compared to the Nokia 800.
If Nokia's Apollo has a FFC, 4 to 4.5 inch screen and 32 GB and is released in the not to distant future that's what I will get.
I still do not understand why Microsoft did not make sure there is a FFC in all new phones, Considering they just spent so much on Skype it is plane stupid.

I don't think it's possible for Microsoft to make something like that mandatory if they truly want to reach all price points. They even removed the minimum of 8GB restriction, there are some that will ship with just 4 GB of space.

Not sure what to buy, Nokia Lumia 900 or Focus S?

Morning peeps,
desperately need a new phone and not sure what to get from the two Lumia 900 or Focus S!!??
Know the specs for both of these phones but struggling to decide. What would you go for and why?
ta
go with Nokia
HTC Titan
Titan's screen is not as good...
Go for the 900.
Nokia care about their users and are implementing fixes for bugs when needed.
And besides I'm sure I read that Samsung are dis-continuing the Focus S anyway... Yeh From WPCentral.
"Oh and before we close out, we're also told that the HTC TITAN and Samsung Focus S are to be put on the End of Life (EOL) list, meaning their future availability will be phased out from current inventory without being replenished. "
lumia 900 without a doubt.
Nokia =
better body design and build quality
better camera
Nokia has numerous applications that are much better than the other OEM's (drive, transport ect)
and most important, Nokia is ALL IN with windows phone. They will make sure people are happy. Updates, firmware fixes, if you buy Nokia you know you will have good support for the life of the phone.
how well would the Lumia screen compete with the focus S?

They are both excellent screens. The nokia CBD on the Lumia 900 is stunning. Works great in bright situations also. I'd say overall they are a wash, so it comes down to the rest of the design, hardware, services & support.
Just go with Nokia. LG are crap when it comes to mobile.

Well, Nokia is the number 1 WP seller within 6 months (less if you count that they are not selling worldwide yet). And there is a reason: All Lumia models are sexy.

You easily get used to bigger phones I have a htc one x and loving it! Especially the screen, can't even look at smaller screens like iPhone or lumia 800 tbh.. lumia 900 is alright and its not that big also the screen there isn't pen-tile like in the 800 which is definitely a big plus

Oops! Just got yet another email from Phones4u saying yet another delay, They can't give me a delivery date as O2 haven't Authorised the Lumia 900 for use on their Network? What is the point of Pre-Order and selecting Network and Tariff only to find out it's not even available?
Not a happy puppy lol, Oh well looks like I will be using the Titan for now.
I bought the Lumia 800 3 weeks ago, but I will exchange it for the 900 when it lands in Denmark....
Anyone in the UK would be willing to swap their lumia 900, for a white Nokia N9?
Got mine from Phones4U today, I wanted the black but they had the white sp bought that sim free.. and quiet happy with my purchace.
I have started another thread to post my findings and if you have any general questions and UK XDA members might have as this is a mixture of USA and UK posts here.

Anyway, how much do you get it?
Not on their website but you can get it instore for £459. Still undecided between white an cyan.
Got a white Lumia delivered on Saturday.
So Far, battery excellent, went from 7:30am to midnight yesterday with no charging (albeit must have been seconds from dying when i plugged in) with heavy use of wifi during the day.
Seems like an excellent choice, screen is amazing too!

My Lumia Developed a problem (phones4u)
No sound from the phone speaker and its only a day old, resetting only helps for a while.
funny enough if I press the bottom of the screen between the windows logo and the search button I can hear the sound.
Defo a Hardware problem, THey have given me an exchange code now, Hope to exchange it today hopefully for a better one.
Camera seem to take blurry photos close up /portraits ( changing the focus to macro seems to help )
Also mine has the purple tint in camera which goes away if saturation under camera settings is changed to minimum.
It is a beautiful phone with Bugs ... But still a beauty nevertheless

Camera is great, very good outdoors, not quite on par with the 4S but a lot better than my previous WP7 (HD7) which doesnt say much. I would say its the better camera ive had on a phone (having never owned a 4S)
Music is good, although, currently lacks an virtual EQ. IM a Zune subscriber and to be fair ive never really had any problems.
Interestingly, the BT Audio to my Logitech BT headphones is better quality and more consistantly connected that is was on the HD7.

Do you have a family using Windows Phone?

Something little bit different. Do you have a family using Windows Phone?
As I bought first Windows Phone 7 - HTC HD7 I love it. My girlfriend love it as well. And she said, she want WP7 as well. Well now me and my girlfriend using HTC Titan's. Old Omnia 7 gone to my mother, HTC HD7 my sister using. And I hope to get soon Nokia Lumia 900.
My wife, my two kids, and myself all have VZW HTC Trophys. Had them since VZW offered them. Mine and my wifes are IU and apphub registered.
All are at 8107.79 with v1 OEM drivers.
I shared my Tmobile line, they left and went to Sprint for the Evo 3-D...I went to the Tmo store and they saw the Radar and left Sprint and got the Radar.

My family not really yet, but my gf has been rocking the L710 for a few months now and she's quite happy with it: she used to have a cheap Android before, so no wonder at all. My Dad (previous Nokia featurephone user) is getting the 610 as soon as it comes out, he's positively impressed with the Office integration and the simplistic UI in my Lumia. Note that for the 5 months I had the SGS2 he never felt really into that. However when I first got my Omnia (R.I.P.) he immediately grabbed it and understood how it worked in a few minutes. A cheap and straightforward WP device like the 610 is exactly what he's been looking for in the latest months.
My mom is still hopeless tho: she keeps using 20€ Nokia uber-dumb phones basically because she smashes everything in a few weeks, no phone os tough enough for her

I bought an omnia 7 (it was april 2011) and one of my schoolmates was impressed by the performance and one week later he had his own omnia7, in 2012 another one of my schoolmates showed me her Lumia 800, then another one asked me if was better a lumia 710 or a Samsung galaxy wonder or something simile, and she has now a lumia710, now another one is searching on ebay some offer for a omnia w..while other spend 600€ for a rude iPhone....they make me laugh a lot
Nop I've got a DVP
Bro has an Android
Sister has a BB
parents don't have smartphones.
Ex GF had a Focus. I have a Lumia 900, my Dad has a Lumia 900 and my Mom has a HTC Surround. Sister is strictly iOS, and the current GF has a Xperia X10a because I was an Android junkie at the time when she was getting a phone.
Me and my Sister got Omnia 7s on launch in Nov 2010. I've just ordered a Lumia 800 as an upgrade and I think she's gonna do the same. So then our Omnias will go to the parents I think.
Yep, my girlfriend inherited my old HD7 and she LOVES it! SHe came from BB, so it may have not been hard to convince her And got my brother to get a Focus S. Once again, extremely satisfied with the simplistic approach and how clean everything looked. Haven't got my mom to jump ship just yet as she loves her iPhone. Dad rocks a BB and I doubt it even matters to him.
My wife has a Samsung Focus S. Picked it up as a Mothers day gift. I liked it so much, i bought myself one.
We had old..dusty old phones. She had the Treo Pro, and i was rocking my Palm Centro...
She loves the phone and how simple it is to use. My brother is now looking to buy the same and come on board now.
The OS is simple, but hypnotizing.. its eye candy.
Plus im on prepaid straight talk. no more contracts.. Its great

I started out with WP7 on my HD2, loved that so decided to go whole hog and bought a Lumia 800. My GF, who had an old SE K610, loved the way the Lumia connected so easily and quickly with the internet. Sorted her out with a data-flat and she bought the Lumia 710 (the L800 was too expensive for her first foray into smartphone-land). Now you can't prize the damn thing out of her hands!! Grrrr!!!
Mother and mother-in-law still have "dumb-phones" and that'll never change. But will be working on getting brother and nephew to move to WP7 (or 8 by that time) for their next phones. Both are lagging behind with Android devices (Wildfire 2 and Explorer from HTC).

[Q] Lumia 900 worth getting at this time(vs 820)

Hello everyone.
I am in the market for a new phone, as my old samsung sgII crashed 2 months ago, and i am getting very annoyed with my old nokia e66, as i can't really do much of the usual stuff on it(emails/facebook/youtube/twitter etc)
As most people know the lumia 820 is right around the corner(together with big brother 920). I am in somewhat a dilemma, i really need a new phone, but will the extra price tag on the 820 be worth it + wm8 over the cheap lumia 900 + 7.8.
I use my phone for the normal stuff, emails/calendar, facebook, twitter, calling and texting, nothing out of the ordinary, and i rarely take pictures, is there really a need to wait for the 820, or would the 900 surfice, im thinking app compabilty backwards aswell.

It really depends on what functionality you want and how much you are willing to pay. Personally, I would wait (if you can) until the 820 & 920 are 'launched' and see how much they cost, cuz then you'll get WP8 native with EVERYTHING it can do.
We're not sure yet what 7.8 will have in it. MS has only committed to the new start screen. But I'll bet there will be more to it.
Definitely, the 820 and 920 will be expensive to begin with. There's also the HTC 8X and 8S to consider as well. Prices generally tend to drop (at least on eBay) about a month or so after introduction.

thanks for the reply, i think ill just wait and see the prices after all im planning to say yes to a 2 year contract, so will have to see what the price will be.
Yes definitely wait as the 820 dependant on price would be a better phone than the 900 seeing as it has removeable storage and covers etc along with WP8.
Don't buy lumia 900. It's not smartphone. Maybe just like iphone 2g except 3.5g. It lacks a ton of function. If you used iphone 2g, lumia 900 has same function: no file manager, bluetooth just for headset, unable send file even by email, use zune for music and video (no alter method)........
Let's find another one.
The L900 is a great phone. But unless you planned to buy it used right now just to hold you over, I wouldn't recommend it as the WP8 devices are right around the corner. The $199 on contract price (assumed) for the L920, vs. FREE for the L900 comes out to about $0.27 per day (over 2 years). And that does not include resale value, so probably closer to $0.15 per day. Not much to pay for cutting edge tech.
