[CONFIRMED]gio survives cola?!(with protection) - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

hi,
I just dropped my glass with cola, wich my sister putted directly near the computer mice, where also my phone was laying because I had it conenected to my pc. then I wasnt paying attention, had a tablet and was gaming (much thing at the same time I know.. ) on it, then moved the mouse, and the cola was everywhere, also on my phone. the first thing I did was cleaning my phone, then the mice and keyboard and the floor.
im very lucky maybe, but my gio survived, thanks to my screen protector.
everything still working fine, as far as I know.
only the floor is a bit sticky, even as the mouse pad,..,
long live my screen protector.

And thus, a New meme was born

I have dropped my gio probably a million times, it's very durable. You got lucky with the coke though.

dropped it 7 times still nothing happened!!
This phone is very good!!
once my cousin dropped his ace and the sd card slot kinda cracked, lol

lol
just dropped it!!
(8 drops from first i had it)

Dropped several times but still works like a charm

If it survives cola i think it survives water too, do you agree?

ofcourse, I wouldn't say yes if I had water on my screen, cola can be annoying and sticky, but lucky it isn't.
the cola whas on my screen protector, on the home key, on the sound thing at the front to call with, and also at the back a bit, so I think im quite lucky with that.
so a bit water isn't worse, but if its much, it is. so just get your mobile phone out of your pocket when going to swim or something, unless in a cola pool.

FYI , most phones are splash resistant.
As long as you don't fully submerge the device, it will function

hmm.... i read somewhere that phones are very unprotected against water, for example the article said that if you answer the phone in rain frequently it will eventually give your phone an early death. It also said that newer phones gets worse and worse in this problem

getting a random reboot one in a hour or 2... maybe the cola stilll did something.. hopefully not

By the way: the best method to deal with water damage is isopropylic alcohol.
XDA's Adam Outler explains this here alongside his critique of the RAZR.

Yes, I think it's some kind of fungus. Maybe a cotton linen soaked in medicinal alcohol should fix that.
Wow, this is strange. They just appeared from one day to another?
i cannot be sure about what you say with this quality of the pictures... it could easily be paint
i have dropped my defy several times on concrete etc and in a few places the rubber has been worn off completely to the plastic and there is no sign of anything green in those places.. seems like you are playing a joke on us ;p
p.s. where does the phone come from, where did you get it?
Looks like algae to me. Drop your phone in a fish tank lately?
Swyped from my MIUI Defy
I did put it in a bowl of water to test the water resistance of my phone :-D can it be coz of that??
And ppl its a legit photo..the only reason it looks lyk this is because I took it using a 3MP camera of my LG cookie pep..
Someone suggested using medical alcohol to clean it up..are you sure it wont do something else to my handset??
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
it might be warming too much take that in condieration
and just a tip: dont get the phone mad or else he'll get bigger and greener .. =]

This. I used to have an E4GT and then I got the YSOD and 5 minutes later my phone exploded, shrapnel flying everywhere. Still have a piece of the screen lodged in my groin, doctors said they can't take it out because the risk of losing my junk was too high. Was going to replace it but honestly, it's not worth the risk. Decided to play it safe and got an iPhone 4S instead.
Be careful OP, the YSOD is serious sh*t.

A yellow tint over the screen can be two things. Either your ribbon cable connecting your screen to the board is loose or damaged (new screen will fix the problem) or the GPU on your board was overheating (whole new phone if it burns up). Are you running any custom ROMs? What were you doing when it happened? Have you dropped your phone?

It happened about 20 mins. after using odin to go to stock ek02 I was reading an article in wikipedia and all of a sudden everything had a yellow tint I thought it might just be the site but, then I found it was the entire phone screen. I wasn't doing anything that could have overloaded the gpu and, I haven't dropped my phone at all. After a quick google search I found that it could be a software problem since some other people have also had this problem but, it could also be a defect with the screen.... If you have any ideas please let me know.

Also it went away after a minute or so and, has not come back. I have had no problems with anything rendering from the gpu other then this quick glitch.

Picture is with a black image with full screen gallery, apart from the cracks it works fine
I'm going to see if I can get a refund/replacement as a "software" problem as it only shows with screen on
The cracks are obvious all the time with screen on, I'm really disappointed that it broke this easy, I hope archos learn and use gorrila glass or plastic next time....

With a $500 tablet you'd expect one with gorilla glass.
For $260 or less, you can't really expect many niceties.

£100 sim free/payg Huawei G300 has Gorilla Glass (albeit only a 4" screen)

Parts

Dropped my RAZR M just 4 days after I got it. Kind of funny actually since it involves an iPhone but anyway...the screen is smashed. I know this phone is really new but does anyone know where to get a replacement display? I assume I need to get the whole display since the glass is fused to it. Thanks for any help.

It will be cheaper to get an insurance replacement for $100 than to wait for parts and get a digitizer, LCD, and glass for this phone (they are fused together in one piece, check out the teardown).
How hard was the drop?
Flat on the glass from about chest high with an iPhone landing on it...so pretty hard I dropped it on other time from about the same height with it landing on its glass again and it came away with so much as a scratch. I think its the iPhone that cause this.

lol, guess the apple doesn't fall far from the.. droid.. after all?
I would just pay the deductable and get a new phone as well. Then it would be back under warrenty (unlikely if you try to do the repairs yourself) and no dealing with unknown suppliers on a line of phones barely two weeks old. just my 2c, i understand your diy urges though!
I always say Gorilla Glass is marketing bulls***, Dragon Tail is better

I don't have insurance so I would need to pay outright for the phone. I'm gonna wait and see what happens this month. I got quarterly bonus coming so not a huge deal. Though I am pissed it happened at all.
