I live in nj, and i love the FD02 Modem. the 3g is always near 1 mb per sec, and upload about 600 kb. thats awesome. GPS locks real easy, and I get phone signals where I did not before. (aka work) It used to be more spoty, but now, it gets more consistent signal. only down side is that my 4g is slower than my 3g. i used to get 5 mbps, but now i get like 800 kbps. it's interesting.. slowest 4g speed i ever got at my home. but i never use 4g so i don't care. i might keep this modem for good. but i'm also going to try FD05.
how is your experience with FD02?
edit: just tried FD05, and the 3g went down to 100 kbps.. and 4g went up to 2 mbps.. but thats not that great. i'm gonna try to keep it for a day and see how it works.
I just got off FD02 yesterday here is my FD05:

While your testing try FC15 as well.
I had better battery life with FC15 then with FD02 and FD05.
I also seem to recall better data speeds with FC15 and FD02 close behind.

I got Los on fd02 modem and it's drained my battery big time. I'm on Calks v3.0.

wish i had that... at best i get an average 400 down and 200 up on 3g
well its the same as verizon but niether cdma networks can come close to touching current gsm carriers as far as 3g speeds
i had to get an at&t phone for work so now im packing 2 sgs2's i mix them up so much and no i didnt get the craptacular skyrocket i got the i777 which is the i9100 branded for at&t
Yeah those numbers seem pretty much what I get. Every once in awhile ill be lucky and see 2MB on 3g but its rare.
I'm three blocks from Times Square on New Years Eve. I would have thought with all the crowds today speed would be way down, but:
3G: Ping 84ms Download 2120kbps Upload 850kbps
4G was a little slow however:
4g: Ping 114ms Download 8836kbps Upload 1513kbps
wow... I'm blown away by everybody here.
I'm in central long island (melville for the locals) and around here I average about 100kbps... never ever see above 150
at home, I use wifi and roam control because I've got nothing going on over there. so all of you should feel lucky
clarification: this is real life use. speedtest app says I avg 800kbps but I've never seen that happen
After flashing EL26 modem, my 3g increased to 1360kbps down/ 720 up. Before I was averaging 800 down/ 300up. So far this modem has given me the highest speeds out of all the modems. Even 4g speeds are higher and more consistent. Ping times are slower than previous modems, but speeds are faster. Go figure. I'm in D/FW area here.

Flashed the el26 modem and its hard to believe but my speeds have more than doubled. no more need to switch to wifi at the house.
I just got an epic touch and I love it. I tried to load several of the leaked ICS roms and they all result in the same situation....awful 4g speed. I men really terrible sub 3g speed. I made t test today running speed tests and look at the results....the ones with really low down speeds and insane up speeds are done with 4g on and the ones with opposing results are done with 3g. My 3g results outside are actually lose to decent for my evo But this is a new samsung ang numbers like that are just awful.
With such fast up speed, I have to think that my 4g is in theory working under ICS. It is great when I am running a 2.3.6 ROM and there are no 4g issues. Something is slowing down my 4g and I have no idea what. I even called Sprint (remember, this is a leaked rooted rom) and they suggested taking it in to a store. I may just do that, with an ICS rom running so they can seee what is happening.
Has anyone had similar issues? I have run every modem from 15 up. I think fo rthe speed tests here I was running either 18 or 15. I want to start with ICS because the short time I played with it I really enjoyed myself. Any input would be amazing.

i have this issue also 4G down never go past 300kb i live in brooklyn I use to get great 4G speeds but now is horrible, for some reason when i go to manhattan am getting 10mbs down i think its the modem am gonna go back to EL29 and see if i get better speeds am running CM9 FC24 Modem
I thought I was going nuts with this same issue for a while now, since running ICS, it's only related to these exp ics builds, once you go back to GB roms you won't have anymore issues. Switching modems won't help, don't even bother. Currently on Calks E4GT v.3.0 EL29 / EL29 modem / overstews ICS theme v.2.5, you get great look and feels like ICS.

I had flashed the fd24 modem and it broke my mms so i went back to fd19. However, once the aosp fd24 kernal was out, i flashed both.... and BAM!! MMS is working again and so far speeds seem much faster. Wireless tether doesn't lag and i'm happy so far.
Just my experience
Initially it was really bad. I couldnt update the profile or PRL but after a reboot everything got quite better. I have ALWAYS gotten 1.4 something upload on 4G and that's definitely changed a bit. Latency is kinda cruddy.

if you're looking for the AOSP kernel just go get it from TCP's page on AndroidFileHost. That seems to be a good place to check periodically for new aosp kernels and roms.

Seems pretty solid to me.

MOST people dont even test during the same time of the day. OFCOURSE speeds will be better/worse. I usually run a few test, flash new modem, then test & judge speeds.

Well, I said that to say you cant run speedtest at like 2 am (where your speeds are likely to be HIGHER), and then flash a new modem at 3pm, test it, get low speeds (peak hours) and say the modem sucks, and speeds arent comparable to a previous modem. You need to test them at nearly the same time.
So what's the verdict?

Test the modem at various hours over the course of a full week, including weekends. If you get high and low speed tests, then the problem is likely at Sprint and has nothing to do with your modem.
OK, so my results have been mixed, I haven't tried the FD24 modem with the FD24 kernel yet only tried the FD24 modem along side the FD19 kernel, but I've had much faster speeds with the FD19 kernel/FD19 modem and the FD24 kernel/FD19 modem. Same speeds no matter the kernel.
Does thebkernel really affect modem speeds?

There has been discussion, but has anyone found the magic formula? I know many people say the modem is completely independent of the ROM. But others have made the argument that data speeds are married to both.
So, what is your ROM/Kernel/Modem combination and data speeds as well as your location?
I'm in North San Diego County on AOKP B34 ROM, FD24 KERNEL, and FD19 modem. This is not a very good marriage. But Sprint 3G speeds in San Diego suck, have sucked, and probably will suck for the immediate future. Best DL speeds have been 800 kb/s and uploads at around 200 kb/s.
Modems work different for every phone..so there is no "magic combination" sorry =(

Its probably a PA thing. Sprint has been horrible in San Diego. Every metro area has 4G except San Diego. But even AT&T 3G is 10 times faster than Sprints 3G.
I had unlimited plan and left AT&T because they throttled me. But, even when they throttled me, it was faster than Sprint.

Go figure! It makes no sense at all not to have cities with high pop densities without 4G (or well serviced 3G). Yet, Sprint finds a way to avoid the common sense virus.
