After contacting HTC CS - HTC One X

So I conatacted The HTC CS to know what they will do regarding the glitches and the insane overheating. Here is their shocking reply:

They are ridiculous when it comes to customer support! I guess if we mass tweet it to'em, maybe we should use a specific hashtag?

Has anyone else noticed that about 700mb of the 1gb available ram is used straight after bootup??? My GF has a Galaxy S 2 and that has about 800mb free ram after bootup. What is using so much ram?

I'd never buy an HTC device ever again after the poor service i recieved when my Desire HD went wrong. I'd had almost every HTC ever made from the Orange SPV to the Desire HD. The one time I needed them they were rude, ignorant, inconsistent, arrogant and a nightmare to deal with. They were featured on BBC Watchdog for their ****e customer service. Not even that has forced them to change.

Sync Issues - HTC admit there is an issue

Once of the biggest letdowns for me of the HTC Desire was the media capabilities (or lack of) and in particular the issue with sync when streaming online video.
I thought people might like to know that HTC have responded to my query about this as follows:
Thank you for contacting us.
In regards to your issue with the youtube sync, I can help you with that.
HTC has escalate this to the developers to come up witha soluction as soon as possible. We do not have any information yet when this hot fix will be available to be download in our web site. We are investigating if the issue is with the phone or with the rom version from the network and we will post the answer soon in the web site.
I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

My Desire has been returned now as IMO it's just not worth the money and the heat issues did't seem at all right to me but this mayt be of use to some of you ...

Thats amore promising response. Admitting there is a problem and someone in development is working on it.
What heat issues? Mine's as cool as a cucumber, running and charging...

EXACTLY! Has anyone died or received burns? No. I've had this issue with Nokias and iphones. They all get hot! As do laptops. Get a grip and man up.
seriously, its NORMAL for a 1400maH powered device to get hot. It has a 1ghz processor!!! and NO FAN. What do you expect?
I am only concerned about the youtube sync part of this thread.
When a phone get's uncomfortable to hold due to heat issues it is most definitely NOT normal! ;-)
I posted about it in another thread so I won't go into it again here.
Good that HTC have admitted the fault though, as some have said.
They're pretty good about fronting up when they find an issue, usually they release hotfixes quite quickly once they start to address an issue.
Interesting the first reply I got from HTC regarding sound and video sync issues was pretty much a point blank refusal of any issue existing.
But just got a reply to a second message I sent them and they are asking for my serial number and software version so looks like they are looking into this more.

Thinking of buying the HTC Desire...but..

Hi all,
I am thinking of getting one for my wife...however, I have been told the internal memory isn't a lot. Specially for games and apps. So just wanted to know if this really is a problem in a long run.
I quite like the screen size and the screen particularly, it's bright and beautiful.
Also, if I buy it now, some where in February, what OS version should i expect, upgradeable to what? I am not much is flash fanatic, so i am not going that way at all...
And also could someone be kind enough to sum up the pros and cons in less than a minute...
Thank you so much...
I would suggest to look for a better phone if you have the budget. Although a great hardware in its time, Desire is old and is obsolete now (it hurts me too say it but that's the truth. ). The last official Android version is Gingerbread. If you are not going to root and s-off, you will definitely have to complain about the memory storage.

just what I was afraid of...thanx a lot buddy...but the use it going to be moderate to low-heavy..like simply put, for games and all...nothing over the top...and some apps of course...
and as I am writing this, I am comparing it with the Desire S...it looks wayyy better...so what would you suggest? Desire S or Incredible. I don't have the budget for the Incredible honestly...but any known issues with the Desire S?
Yeah better a Desire S than the original Desire. Although I'm not quite sure if it will get an ICS upgrade in the future.
Game files right now are getting larger so Desire isn't really up to the task of storing several games plus other apps at once specially if you intend not to root it.

Thanx buddy...but no known issues with Desire S right that I should be aware of/expect?
There were some problems with the Desire S, but most of them were software-related and have been fixed, either by official patches or by independent parties such as the devs here on XDA. The main issue with the Desire S, however, is a hardware bug: some shipments have been plagued by random reboots. Some people even had to have their devices replaced 3 to 4 times until finding a stable unit. So if you decide to buy an S, please make sure you have at least SOME warranty left.
Hi, I wouldn't buy a HTC device at the moment except you really like the stable metal covers of HTC. But for me, Samsung has the best devices now in case of hardware and price performance ratio.
So long story short I would recommend you a Samsung Galaxy S Plus. The Motorola DEFY+ is also quite good.

My suggestion:
Take your money and run, run as fast as you can, run as far away as possible from this phone.. scat! get outta here!! I never want to see you again! :'(
But in all seriousness... go for a newer phone, this ones almost 2 years old.
Today if I wanted to buy new HTC, it would be Sensation (not that XL or XE - I see just marketing move of HTC under these). I think it's the best HTC you can buy today.
As it was already said, Desire is too old today and in case of stock settings (no root or S-OFF) the memory status is really painful.

I would if i could, but there's actually no way to tell. As i've already said, the reboots are completely random and HTC's solution for these is a mainboard replacement.
I don't know where the Desire S has been/is being made. The Desire was made in either China or Taiwan. My GF's Desire is made in Taiwan and it's visibly better built than mine, which is made in China. Both are PVT-4. So if that's also true for the S, i'd advise you to buy a Taiwan-made one.

Could someone please describe what the screen flicker means?
I don't have any of the hardware issues but I do have one problem. On very low brightness when I scroll in apps (like when reading an article in pulse) i get a very faint change in the brightness of the screen. It's like it goes a litter dimmer and then gets bright again. Happens everytime I scroll at low brightness. Is this the screen flicker people talk about?
I also get a few jagged lines on the screen, but that happens *VERY* rarely. I don't even know a way of reproducing them.
Would you say I have a faulty set? Or is mine fine and these issues should be fixed by an update. I'm still on 1.26. 1.28 hasn't yet rolled out in India.

our screen flicker is really when the backlight is flashing very fast, mostly in grey areas of the screen. best you see it when viewing the standard picture in the "camera shots" folder, the one with the snowplains and the sun.
my screen flickers like crazy there around the sun.
if you have it, you will notice it there

the only thing wich fails is the screen, wich will flicker after some use. this will somehow get fix'd, doesn't matter if it's software sided or hardware
if it's software sided we will get a fix, else we can all exchange our device for a non flickering one..

I wish everyone would make a post like this in General before they buy one so that we can really turn this section into a clusterfuck of pointless topics.
as per the poll on the Q&A section goes, it looks pretty grim - 1 outta 3 have complained that their devices have flickering problems - imho the number will worsen with time as maybe not all of them have started heavily using the device and this issue seems to show up later on.
So - i would suggest not to buy it. I was going through the same confusion as you.
- and this thread should have been in the Q&A section as made obvious by the above poster
No problems
I have had one for a while now. It's on rooted t-mobile uk firmware, but I haven't had any problems. It's a nice thin phone with battery life a bit better than my desire had.

my first one had a dead pixel, little green dot only visible on black had no other issues, got a replacement and it's perfect; no yellow dot, screen flicker, flexing screen and so on.
If you get a good one then yes, it's a great phone for sure. Unfortunately I am waiting to get my 4th replacement on Monday.
Buying one now? Personally, if I knew what I know now, I'd probably wait a month until they have had chance to get through the initial stocks and fix the issues and get a software update out. Up to you though, if you go for it, hope you get a good one
I'd wait if iwas you. Htc really need to sort out the faulty units. Theres far to many of them!

I would suggest getting a sim free handset though rather than one branded by a network so any future updates you will get quicker.

HTC warranty service is a pain in the ass too.........guy I talked to was an idiot
Talked to him about screen flickering and battery problems, didn't sound like he cared one bit.
He put me on hold to figure out what to do I'm assuming and was just like......is the screen hot? I'm like uh yea, it hit 60 degrees celsius. He told me I was charging the battery wrong and it would lead to all these problems. In my head I was like wtf? is this guy on crack? He told me to refer to the manual and charge the lithium ion battery according to that. If I still had problems I would have to send it in to an HTC repair and wait 2-3 weeks.....**** that, he didn't even address the screen flickering.
Would I be able to get a full replacement from them instead of having to send it in for repair?

I'm worried about my HTC M9, can anyone shed some light?

Hi all, I pre-ordered my M9 last night and have been very excited. Unfortunately I came home to see a lot of reports regarding the phones issues.
Overheating, battery life, and saying the phone isn't overheating but it scores like 10K less in benchmarks doesn't really
seem like a 'fix' to me.
Can anyone rekindle my love for this phone before I cancel my order, I really don't want to have to buy an S6 instead.
Benchmarks are just numbers. What difference would it make if the phone scored 100k? As long as the UI is fluid and provides a great experience. With my HTC One M8 I underclocked my CPU from 2.3GHz to 1.7GHz. And guess what? No difference in fluidity in everyday use but a bit of extra battery life.
Remember, numbers are not everything.
Overheating has been solved with a firmware update. This should also solve the battery life a bit, but I don't know how much.

Don't worry about the overheating. Problem solved there. Only overheating I experienced was during cache rebuilt after FOTA Update. Even that's addressed now. Benchmarks do not mirror real-world use. You will not be sorry. I will be, when I have to give my test device back to HTC.

What an absolute F**K UP!, I was receiving delivery notes all morning regarding the delivery of the phone, turns out im not getting it till the 31st now
Honestly the last time I order from them. I've wasted a whole day waiting.
Refusing the order once it arrives, absolutely fuming.
To answer your question, Yes I am in the UK

I got mine yesterday from o2 germany. So brilliant this Device. The best piece of Hardware i've ever had in my hands
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Free mobile app
I received an email saying phone is ready for collection from my chosen O2 store.
Then in store I got told there was an error and they will not release it until 31st.
Not happy with O2 UK....

I got an email the same as you, waited all day for delivery, no show, contacted O2 they told me to drive to the depot and collect it. I drove for 45 mins there and back in the dark. Turns out it wasn't even there.
Really angry about it. Some people actually got theirs though, some woman from O2 rang the courier and told them to send my phone back to their warehouse. It will be resent on the 31st. BS
so the m9 is really better the the lagy lg g flex 2???
what about the speaker sound is it better than old m8??
I would say no comparison between new Dolby Audio soft with new hardware and ordinary BoomSound..
got my m9 yesterday, and I must say it's amazing. You must know, I'm comming from S3 and never used an HTC device before. It's so smooth and lag free, so far. And that hardware feeling so luxury. Great device.
But still I'm somehow angry, cos they underclocked the CPU to 1.56Ghz

All the underclock is doing to mine is making games slow and the phone cool, and general use, the phone is hot lol.
