Unrooting and returning to stock. - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

So I just got a Dinc2 as a warranty replacement a couple days ago. Been rooting and ROMing for over a year, the last few months on a Droid X2.
I've been looking into rooting the dinc2 the last couple of days and I am wondering how you go back to stock if you ever need to in case there is a warranty swap or if you screw something up. With the Motorola we had sbf to flash it back to stock, Samsung's have Odin. I'm not finding how to do anything like that with this phone. Is there no way to flash back to stock with HTC it am I just not finding it.
Thanks for the help.
Tapped on my stock Dinc2

You can flash a stock ruu and then unroot and then lock the bootloader.

[Q] Rooting the EVO - BRICKED

I got an EVO and within 6 hours it was completely bricked. Thankfully i got a brand spanking new one the next day and i dont want to mess up again. I did unrevoked last time and that worked fine, but when i tried to flash a rom it didnt agree. Im looking to get full root and NOT with unrevoked. I did some research and saw a way to push a file in the standard EVO recovery, but those posts were from april-may 2010. I didnt know if there was a more updated method anyone could help me out with.

Read this entire set of instructions.... unrEVOked does work great.... hope this helps...

The best thing you can do when rooting or flashing a new rom is read. And then read a little more. Unrevoked is about the easiest method, and most problems don't stem from just rooting. Same with flashing a rom. There are certain steps involved and missing one can have dire effects That being said, most times the issues can be resolved pretty easily.
mutant posted a great guide! Brush up on flashing and there should really be minimal issues. There are some great roms coming out. Most are super stable!
In my family we have 4 evo's and I rooted all of them with unrevoked with no problems and were all running the Myns Warm TwoPointTwo Roms. Its pretty hard to brick a Android device and if you achieve this feat there's a way to bring it back. All I can say is make sure that you read all the instructions and make sure you have the HBoot drives and you should be good to go. Based on all the other methods of Rooting Unrevoked is by far the easiest method hands down.

The link in my sig is probably my favorite. It is complicated but easier than you think and works every time.

My first question is how the hell did you "BRICK" your Evo? They are almost impervious to bricking. I have tried to brick mine and it has always been savable.

Have you tried flashing a GSM radio on it? Try to save it then.

I'm guessing it wasn't actually "bricked". I would venture to say that some people run into issues that they don't have the knowledge to get out of and its just easier to get a new phone. I don't know if they have deep pockets and buy new or somehow pull off unrooting or what...

[REQ] Return to stock unrooted

Hello all. Sorry if I missed this somewhere but do we have a return to stock method yet? It is not for me personally but I have been asked if there was a method. It seems that we should have one if we have root, for backup purposes and incase someone needs to return a phone to vzw, etc.
I have a back up I pulled of stock if its usefull it its my personal

At this point, you can downgrade fully if you have used AlphaRevX, with one exception: you retain S-OFF. You lose recovery, you go back to stock, but you still retain S-OFF.
I'm playing with it now, so hopefully I'll find any more issues soon.
Thanks guys. It's no big deal. Just wondered if there was something I could post over at droidforums for some people.
If one downgrades can't they just except the ota for stock gb? Won't that put s back on?

That I don't know... I tried checking for the update, but nothing ever happened. The problem though is that I know it hasn't been pushed/rolled out to everyone. So I don't know if they can get OTA.
Asked this in the irc earlier today and was told you can not go back to s-on. Hopefully this will be an option in the future. Wouldn't want any problems with verizon on a warranty or insurance claim.

Insurance I wouldn't think would be an issue.. If it's broke, it's broke. Warranty claim would be an issue, that's for sure.
Some people were talking about Ruus but I'll just tell them to stick with root for now.

[Q] Can't root gf's incredible

I have attempted to root my girlfriend's incredible using the method in the stickies of the development section here. everything seems to go well until i get to running root. I get a "Is your firmware too new error?" I have read around the internet on it and have really only found to do a factory reset before running unrevoked3. I have done this and still get the same "Is your firmware too new?" error. I really tried to avoid having to post about this but I have been trying for 2 straight days now and am beyond frustrated. If anyone could help please and thank you. I have a fascinate running pool party 1.6 and glitch v12 kernel so I am no stranger to rooting/flashing but I just can't seem to figure this one out. The main reason I am doing this is because she can get sms but not recieve sms and verizon says they cant fix it because her warranty is up so they are making her buy a new phone but I would like to see if getting cm7.1 stable up and running on her phone remedies the issue. Again please and thanks for all the help everyone! How can i remedy this issue? Are there alternate methods to rooting this phone?
[solved] figured out theres no way to root the incredible on gb. how can i go back to froyo?

To Root&Flash or Not to Root&Flash before ICS release...

I just got my Epic4G Touch, about a week ago, moved over from the NS4G. My question is, should I go ahead and root/flash a ROM now, or should I wait until after the official ICS release for this phone?
Wondering if there will be more stable ROMs/etc. after the fact?
Well you ran it stock for a week. I say root and flash, I don't see any downside flashing any roms besides ICS bricking phones it's why I just stick to gingerbread for now. I rooted and flashed a custom ROM after after running it stock for 2 hours and couldn't be happier.

So let me see here your question is do I spend 10 minutes and try ICs or spend another 10 minutes flashing it back.... This thread will take longer to read and type up than you using sfhubs odin tars and trying it out for yourself....
Also complete stock --- really who does that anymore
First thing I did when I got my phone phone was rooted it and flashed a ROM, I spent about 10 minutes with the phone full stock. That was back in November.
I say flash. The official update probably won't be out for a couple more weeks

ICS isn't bricking phones, trying to use ICS recovery is. There's a difference.
Also, people are bricking their phones because they refuse to read all instructions and follow them to the letter.

Ya sorry, could've worded it better, was too lazy to proof read. Well flashing roms in ICS just seems risky, even if it's just 5 percent. I use to go crazy flashing the old galaxy s and never worried about brick, I even flash things recklessly because there was Odin. I slowed down and got paranoid when Odin can't even fix the bricks that's been happening here.

I'd say root, flashing could wait until after the source and OTA is out, unless you want to try some GB ROMs.
Rooting/Flashing GB rom now. That's what was concerning me with the ICS, was seeing the bricking issues some were having. Hadn't really read into it much. I've been flashing and using XDA since my first windows phone HTC Tilt on AT&T. I'm not new to flashing or anything, just came off the NS4G as well.
For some reason I always get weary of rooting the device, and flashing a rom the first time. After that I'm a ROM hopper, but that first time always seems a little daunting.
Thanks for the input everyone.

Listen to esoteric. If you want to flash an ics rom, do it the right way. I nandroid between ics roms on a daily basis, but that is because i read and do it the right way. Check out reactive disorders thread, i probably flashed his test rom 20 times yesterday alone....and anothe 20 today. My phone works just fine. Just stay away from flashing the international version and everything will be just fine. I say give it a go.

[Q] warranty root

I saw a similar question on this but is my warranty really voided if I rooted my sprint galaxy s3 and I could get it back by going back to 100% stock? I rooted it shortly after getting this phone. This morning I went into download mode and saw the flash count 1 and 2 lines say custom and go into about device and it says modified.
There are ways to reset those. Search qbking77 on youtube.
As far as warranty, no they will charge you your deductible for a new/refurb phone. But a Sprint store can refuse to honor their TEP program and work on a rooted device.
And that's because after a tech fixes w/e is wrong, you walk out the door and it bricks because you flash something your not suppose to. They don't want the blame to fall back on them.

You can always go back to stock and triangle-away the flash counter. I'd recommend using the Toolkit by mskip. It has the option of returning to stock unrooted and getting rid of the flash count.
As far as your primary question about warranty. Yes, your warranty is voided. That being said, I've never really heard of it being an issue. Most Sprint Tech's are pretty chill when it comes to this. You can, of course, get an uptight one who will complain and even refuse your return. But yeah, I haven't really heard of that happening too often.
Usually all carriers would check the flash tick and they'd tell you that you can not have a warranty for your phone.
But it's other times that you'd be really lucky to obtain one for your device if they won't look into it ( And they will )
and they'll look at the status of the device as well. If you want to fully go back to stock TW and get your warranty
it'd be advised to flash this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Thank billar412 for that.
Take note this is the MB1 update, if you how ever don't like MB1 there should be an LJ7 in the forums somewhere
or just look up qbking77 guide to unroot for stock TW and he should also have a flash counter reset under his threads as well.
Thanks for the quick replies. So that quick return to stock one would bring back the warranty then? That's the one I got my eye on plus I'm craving some custom rom goodness.

I don't want to be the legalistic guy, but I wanted to point out something.
By flashing a custom recovery (i.e. gaining root access), you are voiding your claim on the warranty. There's no getting around that. But, by returning to stock and resetting your flash counter, you are making it so that no one can tell you voided the warranty.
I know it's a slight difference from what you said and many people may say I'm nit-picking, but I want people to take responsibility for flashing ROMs. It bugs me when people don't read everything, brick their phones, then try to get the carrier to pay for their mistakes (case in point).
Hey -
my question is in a similar vein.
I am "stock" but rooted and with CWM recovery.
I'm getting bugged to death with the OTA update notifications, and of course it won't run under CWM...
Best method to get it to install seems to be to restore factory recovery?
Or do you guys have other suggestions?

You never mentioned where you got your phone. I buy mine at Best Buy, and purchase their insurance. It covers EVERYTHING except loss. No deductible. No limit on number of claims. I was flashing my GS3 back and forth between a few roms, and somehow messed it up. It was stuck in a boot loop. They couldn't get it to boot either. They sent it out, and I had a new one 4 days later. Only new because they had just come out, and didn't have refurbs yet
