Should be in QA section but i might aswell answer now anyway.
You need to be rooted cwm installed , rom downloaded and flash via CWM, you will lose apps but you have to wipe before flashing.

this thread could have been avoided if people followed XDA forums' first rule.

When you unlock, root. In order to flash a new ROM you will need a complete data wipe. That's the breaks of the game

I dont think Rooting alone is going to stop your OTA, but changing the ROM is certainly gonna stop you from receiving OTA Updates.
No custom ROM ROM looks stock and I unrooted it says no update and I'm on 4.2
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just wait, update will appear after a short time, reboot some times for accelerate the process
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Just flash the latest version with Gnex tool if you are going to use the same rom don't need to do a factory reset

CWM 6 is the latest. Razr hasn't been updated for a loooooong time.
Alternatively, use TWRP. I've been using it to flash CM9 RC4 and RC6, no problems whatsoever.

CM 10.1 RC5 install question

Right now I'm running rooted TW and was planning on installing RC4 but RC5 dropped before I got a chance. Being a wary person I've given it a few days to see if there's any major issues. From what I can tell, to get the best results, I should install RC4 then RC5 or should I only do it if I have issues.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I clean flashed RC5 and haven't run into any problems.
Just flash RC5 straight off the bat. Its built into the script to wipe /system, so it won't matter if you flash RC4 first anyway.
Yea reading back on a lot of the posts i realized a lot of them mentioned they used twrp and i use cwm. Not sure if that matters but I always hear cwm is better.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Yeah, just install it clean off, I don't think there are very many serious differences between TWRP and CWM, at least not any that will ruin your Cyanogenmod install. Remember to flash the Gapps, I forgot my first time on AOSP.
Why is it necessary to install Gapps? In what order do you flash Gapps before installing Cyanogenmod or after. And were can I find it for my phone sph-L710.
Thank you.

Usually where ever you find your aosp rom they usually provide a link to the gapps download. You will flash the rom and right after flash the gapps then reboot.
If there's no gapps download link just Google search gapps you will find the goo download page with all the gapps for the different systems, make sure you select what you need.
The only roms you need to flash gapps with are aosp style roms because they are not licensed to carry the google apps.

I'll probably flash one of the latest nightlies, I'm not a power flasher so l've been reading the forms religiously in an attempt not to brick another phone.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
Go for it, the nightlies are really quite stable, usually. Just read the posts to the thread for it to see if there are any serious bugs, chances are other people will have flashed it before you and posted their problems. Even then, most of the problems are just bugs that are usually tolerable, at the most minor inconveniences.
RC5 is running very nice for me, so far I've found no bugs and everything seems to be working.

Thanks for all your help. I have one question though... I Google Gapps and went to goo. Im put which one is for my phone. I have sph-L710 android 4.1.2

2- why don't YOU search and browse these forums before asking these questions that have been answered over and over again.. Damn
