Have a GSM Nexus running AOKP Milestone 4 with Franco Milestone 2.
My Icons are a bit small, definitely smaller then all of the Widgets. What is the best way to increase the ICON size, do I increase the DPI? I just switched over from a HD2 running HyperDroid CM7 and increasing DPI on that platform was affecting market/Play functionality. Or is there another way in Ice Cream to achieve this functionality?
My eyes are getting old so bigger ICONS means more viewing pleasure. Thanks in advance everyone............
Hello again friend just wondering do you want to do this because of vision problems, or just because you want to?

I want to make the change for a few reasons:
1. I am using the Nova launcher and have configured the screen to have 4 rows and 4 columns. There is a lot of free Real Estate between the Icons
2. The Icons are smaller then the Widgets they sit next to.
3. I basically need to use my glasses now for most functions on the phone. But for the larger Widgets its easier to see them then the smaller Icons.
This request/desire is more a function of age then anything else
Increasing the dpi will definitely make the icons larger so thats the easiest thing for you to try. I believe you can do that directly through the AOKP settings or you can use the GNex ToolKit to do it. If it affects the market then just change it back to 320 while using the Market and change it back again after.
Mark.

I modified the build.prop on my Galaxy Nexus to have a 240 dpi instead of the default 320 dpi.
My question is basically, is there a way to modify the ICS launcher and app drawer to contain more items then the default? Right now the launcher shows the standard 4x4 icons all smooshed into the center of the screen.
Don't confuse dpi with pixel density. Not the same thing.

Unless you want to dig into the code and try to modify the stock launcher yourself. You'll currently have to use a 3rd party launcher to accomplish your goal.

First of all, your post doesn't answer my question, and secondly you are incorrect. DPI/PPI is the unit of measurement that LCD Density is measured in. Android apps use this DPI value to determine how to display the relative layout.

As a software developer I AM willing to dig into the code. I have built cyanogenmod from source before on Ubuntu, but it has been a while, and i dont think i still have that virtual machine set up anymore. I was just wondering if anyone knows of how to do this, or at least how hard it would be, or point me in some general direction as i havent modified an android launcher before. I am just suprised that no one else has mentioned changing the lcd density on their Galaxy Nexus. With a 720p screen it seems like a perfect candidate for that.
I'd just pick a different launcher and wouldn't loose sleep over it. But there are people who already modded the stock launcher to support proper landscape and removed the search widget. Perhaps they would be more familiar with editing the launcher.apk

I started using a new ROM today and it uses only Trebucet launcher which I'm having problems with a change of LCD_DENSITY.... I can't increase the number of icons showing on homescreen and this bothers me a bit.
What are my options using ICS 4.0.3 for a highly customizable and well-performing launcher?
Nova launcher. You should be able to find it the galaxy nexus themes and apps section.

Doesn't that cost money though?
I am currently testing ApexLauncher I have NovaLauncher installed as well and while Nova Launcher seems further along I find that I am really liking Apex so far.
SPB now works on the Nexus ...... quite expensive though.
Used to love it on my old winmo 6.5 phone but I can't warm to it any more.

SPB was a great launcher back when 2.1 and 2.2 were just hitting but now Shell 3D is behind in options, performance, and honestly its not that impressive anymore. I unfortunately bought it at $15 a while ago and have been asking for a refund because I didn't have it installed for more than a few hours. I ended up hating it in the end thanks to the price and because of that I have no interest in purchasing a launcher anymore. Had there been a commitment to keep improving it, I might be using it now but SPB is doing a ****ty job of that.
I checked out Apex launcher and its missing a lot of options compared to Nova.
I also tested out launcher pro on here, fast, but again missing a lot
Yea apex is missing a lot. I am pretty minimalistic so it doesn't bother me too much for now but that will probably change lol.

I use Go Launcher EX and I really like it. Has the stock look and feel with added control and features. One nice ability is to increase the widget grid from 4x4 to 10x10 to give you more control.
Also at 280dpi with no issues.
For sheer choice of options ADW Launcher is your best bet. If you are running your Nexus at 240dpi though you might want to check out NovaLauncher_beta13 as this is working very well at this density currently!

This is exactly why I like NovaLauncher the best. I am using a high LCD density and NovaLauncher by far has worked the best with it

The lower the value for LCD Density, the higher the "actual" density....kinda like how gauge works with guns/wire
My LCD Density value is 280 versus the stock 320 resulting in a sudo-higher resolution
I see.

Hi all,
After coming over from the EVO 3D, I found the HUGE fonts, etc on the SGS2 disconcerting and ugly. I longed for my small clear fonts and tight spacing on the EVO3D qHD screen.
So I just downloaded LCD Resolution, a free app from the Market and set the Resolution to 200. Wow, what a difference! It is now just like looking at my EVO 3D with a better screen.
Awesome.
P.S., If you are using LauncherPro which doesn't have the ability to resize icons or fonts as Go Launcher does you will find this especially helpful. I have found Go Launcher to be an FC fest on the SGS2.
The resolution changing doesn't size right with some stock apps so I stay away from it. If the font is to big or not to your liking just change font size and style...try a ics ROM it has the option to change the font size built into the ROM.

What rom are you running?
LCD Density Pro set to 200 causes my phone to freeze on boot with FC15
I used LCD Density Pro to fix market on Touchpad.
Switched my LCD Density to 200 using ROM Toolbox, no problems there on CM9.
I had used LCD Resolution...with my Thunderbolt and ET4G- until I started getting incompatibility to download apps from Google Play (Marketplace). So if you do experience that, you may have to uninstall the app.
Hi guys. Thanks for the responses.
A couple asnwers here regarding LCD Density Pro. Have no idea as my OP is regarding an app called LCD Resolution. I am running the latest EL29 modem. I've tried this on a number of the top roms and all worked fine.
The benefit of this is that it also makes my icons smaller which was the problem when using LP on this device.
I've now set mine to 190 because I like that even better. Sorry it doesn't work for some. Works perfectly for me.

Where is the font size option on tw ics roms? See the font style but I've only seen font size on CM9 roms.
I tried changing the font via rom toolbox on the newest fc15 but it only changed in apps, not the whole rom. Weird.

For anyone who is using changed LCD density and having issue with market download, check this thread -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529227
It's always working fine for me for both GB and ICS.
For any questions, please let me know.
Is there a specific density that keeps the dialer from shifting or a fix?
I love 200 but the dialer is way off.
Thanks

Anyone came up with an app for this?
I am not a fan of launchers running on top of any ROM and I read a lot about issues with apps and playstore after using LCD Density.
I currently switched from iPhone to Galaxy S3 and while the phone is great, icons are just not adequate to the screen.
There is an app called Bigify for iOS, is there anything at least similar for Android devices?
The main 3 options I am looking for:
1. change icon size
2. change angle of the icons by xy degrees (it looks fantastic!)
3. remove icon text
Here is a SS:
This actually would be very nice as it bothers me when the apps name is cut off because it's too long.. So being able to remove the text would be great!

Apex Launcher allows you to remove the app text or modify the title/icon. You cannot rotate it though.
Op running a different launcher has no actual problems
Say your using nova as default the phone won't have stock tw launched running in the background unless you open again

I am sorry but how are these answers to my question? As far as I am reading it correct I need to have a launcher and I cannot get a any angle and no name icons at the same time

It's what you asked for. They honestly helped you as much to their abilities.
That being said if you want angled apps look into making it yourself. I know that is not much of a answer you're looking but as of right now as far as I have seen there are no apps or mods to rotate apps.

Root your phone install a recovery and install paranoid android, google it, i think youll like it.
I got TFS Launcher and it runs great. I do have one question though.... Isn't there always a Launcher running over a rom? Otherwise you wouldn't be able to run any apps.

Market senses your resolution and determine if you need this or that. What is your goal for 180? Small phone mode?
Won't you use EOS rom and choose tablet mode to save some screen space.
Eventually they'll have the navigation bar height mods that make the navigation bar thinner. Its too fat in phone mode but tablet mode it feels right.

What he wants is a modded GSF.apk and Phonesky.app with a hard coded DPI value of 213 so changing your DPI won't affect market compatibility.
