I modified the build.prop on my Galaxy Nexus to have a 240 dpi instead of the default 320 dpi.
My question is basically, is there a way to modify the ICS launcher and app drawer to contain more items then the default? Right now the launcher shows the standard 4x4 icons all smooshed into the center of the screen.
Don't confuse dpi with pixel density. Not the same thing.

Unless you want to dig into the code and try to modify the stock launcher yourself. You'll currently have to use a 3rd party launcher to accomplish your goal.

First of all, your post doesn't answer my question, and secondly you are incorrect. DPI/PPI is the unit of measurement that LCD Density is measured in. Android apps use this DPI value to determine how to display the relative layout.

As a software developer I AM willing to dig into the code. I have built cyanogenmod from source before on Ubuntu, but it has been a while, and i dont think i still have that virtual machine set up anymore. I was just wondering if anyone knows of how to do this, or at least how hard it would be, or point me in some general direction as i havent modified an android launcher before. I am just suprised that no one else has mentioned changing the lcd density on their Galaxy Nexus. With a 720p screen it seems like a perfect candidate for that.
I'd just pick a different launcher and wouldn't loose sleep over it. But there are people who already modded the stock launcher to support proper landscape and removed the search widget. Perhaps they would be more familiar with editing the launcher.apk

I think he's already got that part covered homie, he's asking how to make the dialer match the density. It becomes a skewed when the density is changed on a stock based ROM.
The only way I know is to use a 3rd party dialer app. Good luck.

Just change the dpi, enables tablet mode. Search the thread.

If all he wants to do is add more slots, he should just use a 3rd party launcher instead of modding DPI and breaking Play Store downloads.
Adw launcher allows 10x10

That's misinformation. I have installed LCD Density Modder and have been running with dpi set for 241. My play store works normally as do all apps I have installed. It works and is easy. I'm on the latest build of AOKP.

Hey guys quick question regarding apex launcher. I like setting my grid sizes usually between 5x5-10x10 but it seems with apex launcher anything over 7x7 causes the icons to get cut in half, regardless of having the icon labels hidden or not. quite disappointing.. is there any fixes to this? i searched here and on google, and didn't find anything other than other people bringing up the issue.
I purchased the Pro version hoping it would maybe fix the issue, but it still happens.
updated OP with my question re-worded in hopes of any info.. Thanks again for any help guys!
You need to change the LCD density so the icons are smaller.

that will change a whole hell of alot more than just my icon size though. i dont want everything else to change size. I just want a dang 10x10 grid, why is it EVERY other launcher doesnt have this issue? there has to be something else.
Yeah, i never mess with density, but it would work.
Another idea is to use desktop visualizer since it scales. All the really artsy home screen people use it. Pain to have to set up each icon, but it should work.

Nice, that app is kinda like a more useful simpletext type app.
does no one else have this issue? I cant be the only one who uses apex who likes to have a 10x10 grid.
We all know that by default you can activate the rotation of the screen but the main desktop and the App Drawer won't do that. So in few words what's your solution?
Leave it as stock
Use the True Tablet UI Patch
Use a launcher
Use TTUI Patch + Launcher
ParanoidAndroid Rom
Really curious to know what you have done!
I use nova launcher.
+1 for Nova

Without changing the pixel density?
Holo Launcher seems to do the trick you are looking for. Matter of fact, most of the third party launchers would let you do landscape desktop and app drawer.
I use nova launcher , but if u want a stock launcher with rotation Modaco launcher it's a good choise!!!

Looking at these posts looks like no one used the "True Tablet UI Patch" or the stock launcher....
force_enable_rotation=true @local.prop
stock launcher.

yup. the thread title's "Rotate topic", not true tablet UI. for tablet UI, u change it the DPI to 160. but i dont like that. too small screen.
but yeah, this doesn't rotate the lock screen though. not that i can't swipe up/down instead of left/right.......

Actually the topic is "your solution for..." the rotate topic So checking answers looks like most of the people just use another laucher.
But the one you posted in few words is for what? I mean for the way I read your answer this doesn't make anything different than the "rotate" funcion in the notification bar. Or it also allows to rotate the main desktop and the app drawer?

Actually, the funny thing is I have added this mod. It doesn't rotate the time on the lock screen but you still swipe to the right to unlock ... (toward bottom if you were in portrait mode)...no dpi changes or any other mods needed. I'm on rooted, unlocked stock ROM.
What I really wanna know is where I can mod the home screen to scroll continuously...I haven't looked yet. I have the setting on my phone, but haven't played with the N7 enough to find it yet.
I use Apex. Paid for the Pro version of it, over Nova, since Apex offered... less features for the Pro version (in other words, Nova had a lot of stuff in Pro that was non-existent in the free, and I don't like feeling like I "have" to pay in order to use an app efficiently...)
I used launcher.force_enable_rotation=true inside a new local.prop file in /data. I always use portrait mode and a pin in the lock screen, so portrait only in lock screen is fine by me.
My biggest issue was when in landscape, if I went back into home I would have to rotate from landscape to portrait, then back into landscape and if I pressed a button by mistake again, back into portrait.
I tried the change build.prop dpi settings but didn't like tablet UI for this little thing..... and I don't want to squint.
Tried ultimate rotation control which works great, it also rotates the lockscreen, but costs something like £2 after a 7 trial vs what I use now.

So you paid for less features in general out of principal?
Or did Apex have more free features compared to Nova, and the Pro versions equalled things out on both sides?

Yes, sorry for not being clear. That tweak to local.prop is to rotate the main desktop and app drawer, just not the lock screen.
The GUI dpi change tweak it's for a complete tablet ui

another launcher (because the default one doesn't have enough features for my taste anyway)
I don't know why some of your options are listed, like paranoidandroid rom, wtf.
Most custom roms include a landscape launcher. This shouldn't be that complicated. The stock launcher simply doesn't do landscape without tweaks. If you run stock, just download Nova or Apex.
I run EOS and its built in tablet mode with Apex.

apex launcher, tablet mode at 160dpi :good:
IMHO apex (free) is the best
So I flashed the stock with root FK23 jellybean leak last night and I love it! I keep seeing mention of changing the dpi for the ripple effect and other things. I've heard about changing dpi in the past to get more screen space but I've never messed with it for worry of messing my phone up or having market problems.
So my question is can someone please explain to me how I would go about changing my DPI for FK23, what DPI setting is generally considered the best all around, and will I have to do anything special so that the app market works ok? I looked at LCD density changer pro and DPI changer on the market and both apparently don't support jellybean. So if anyone wouldn't mind explaining how or what I could use to change my dpi and what the safest setting would be I would greatly appreciate it.
I did search here first but most of the info was for gingerbread or ICS or involved editing the build.prop file and I would rather get first hand info from anyone that's successfully changed their dpi on this version FK23, how they did it and what setting they used. Thank you in advance for any and all help or even a link (I don't mind reading) Thank you!

I know with the older versions of touchwiz though, that once you did change the dpi, you wind up having the launcher all screwy and not filling the screen, and a few apps, namely the dialer and music, if I recall, also either do not work, or only take up part of the screen.
Is this still the case?

Anyone that's messed with this before recommend a good all around dpi value? I'm using nova launcher but I dont want all my other apps broken either. Is there a good value that will give me ripple effect and more screen real-estate without breaking everything?
I'm trying to get as much information as possible about DPI settings before changing it. Thank you much for any information at all.
