No. You must unlock your bootloader and install custom kernel with overclock support to apply it.
It's not the same with 2010 xperia phones when you load .ko files for overclocking.

[Q] Can we get CM7 with locked bootloader?

Ok so I read on other forums and CyanogenMod forums that it's somehow possible to get CM with LOCKED bootloader, by using the root exploit like gingerbreak, downloading ROM Manager and installing the mod. The question is... can we do this too on Xperia Arc? Because I really like CyanogenMod7 but I don't want to unlock the bootloader because I will lose the DRM Keys. Yes I know, I can unlock it without losing DRM Keys but that costs and I don't wanna spend any money. So, can we get CM7 with locked bootloader on Arc?

Try it, and let us know.
The problem is that I have the 0% battery problem, and I flashed the 1% patch. Will everything work okay?
Ur heading the wrong way mate
No cm7 with locked bootloader no matter what u download
Goodluck wit ur batt issue

So it's not possible on arc... if I'll try and anything bad happens, reflashing the stock firmware will fix everything?
Can't say it will fix ur phone as I've no idea what u intend to do
What I'm saying is u won't get cm7 with locked bootloader
Sorry mate

I intend to install CM7 using ROM Manager and root without unlocking bootloader like here http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/5143-install-cyanmod-wout-unlocking-bootloader/
Rom manager uses cwm which u won't have or get by installing rom manager
Rom manager is an app to run cwm from phone not a work around way to flash roms
Cm7 uses its own kernel. It will not work on stock kernel and u can only change kernels wit fastboot.
Fastboot is only enabled by unlocking bootloader.
Best I can explain it
Best of luck

Ok so maybe these guys on N1 made it but it was cm6... Maybe it was easier... Anyway... Should I unlock the bootloader? What will i exactly lose if I'll do this? I mean, what apps/functions will stop working by removing the DRM keys...? I heard one of them would be TrackID
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Honestly not sure done mine and haven't missed anything that was removed.
Heard track Id ( I use soundhound)
Also seus and ota updates won't work/dangerous to use
I can't say one way or the other but I'm on miui wit 1.2 oc and love it
Up to u mate
Enjoy

Does anybody knows what exactly apps/functions I'll lose by removing the DRM keys beside TrackID, SEUS and OTA correct functionality?
Ok so by removing the DRM keys I read I'll lose trackID and the "Like" function in the native music player. Is that true, or anything else? As the SEUS and OTA functionality can be fixed by relocking the bootloader

Rooting Xplay?

Hi there,
Is there a way to root the xplay?
I had the .42 firmware and rooted it. Then I deleted all the crap apps.
After a update with PC Companion (with phone there was an issue), my root disappeared and I tried to root it again with DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su but it failed.
Is there a possibility to root it with the actual firmware, or only with .42?
And I wait for the ICS update for my play, can I root it then with ICS?

If you updated to .62, it's unrootable. The exploit we've been using for root doesn't work on Android 3.0+

If u have ur bootloader unlocked it isn't
If you can, flash a custom kernel, such as DooMKerneL, and it will be rooted straight away, and that kernel works on .62 as that is what I am using now
I was also afraid of unlocking my bootloader the first time as I still have a one year warranty one my r800i. However, my dark side is dominant so I unlocked it and then that is when I started modding my Xplay. I almost bricked my phone but thanks to my friend who flashed a new stock rom (hongkong ftf lol). Now, I rarely used my pc hahaha
The .69 Firmware hasn't Android 3.0+
I wait until the update for Andorid 4.0, when it's released, then I maybe unlock my bootloader ~

I was answer both your questions in one line, sorry. It should've looked like this:
The .62 firmware and up are patched for the zergRush exploit. So root is unobtainable without an unlocked bootloader.
Also, zergRush does not work on android version 3.0+, so when ICS comes out, you won't be able to root it without an unlocked bootloader.
Pax.

Not yet. There have been relatively few major cross-device root exploits and ics is still new and relatively unused, until lots of devices have it, I don't really see a new exploit coming out.
Sent from my R800x using Tapatalk
You are still able to flash back to .42, apply ZergRush and then do the OTA, which won't remove your root.
The only downside doing so is the whole backup process since flashing the old .ftf will remove your userdata.

Epic Failure while trying to flash/root my ARC ICS 4.0.4

So today after watching tutorial videos and reading about it I finally made my mind and decided to flash/root my xperia arc. The build no of my stock was .431 now what I did was download the '.431 ready to root ftf' and flashed my phone, now when I tried to root it it gave me several errors mkdir failed for tmp, File exists and rm failed for *, No such file or directory and to make thing worse the memory card messed up and I had to format it and lost all the data. Now I've recovered the phone using pc companion but I failed very badly
I have no idea what exactly did I do wrong?

Read the stickys, and the individual threads for instructions.
Go to setting after flash the ready to root 4.0.3. Click at xperia. Click connectivity. Click USB connection mode. Choose MSC. The default is MTP if i not mistaken. Then root your phone and flash back 4.0.4 kernel.
This method i using when i root my phone last week. Before that it was giving me so many error.
Im on LOCKED BOOTLOADER while doing that

Yes, after unlocking the bootloader flash a kernel, and then install a custom rom that's pre-rooted. Much easier way if you don't mind not sticking with stock.

Normally I use the Arcknight kernel (Get version 3.5.1 or 3.3 because 3.6 is broken), but since Sony released the new .587 build I'm sticking with this kernel for now.
Now with Roms I suggest you go with this one its really good .
Okay I just rooted it sucessfully but I kept the bootloader locked.
How do I flash Arcknight 3.5.4 on my locked bootloader?

So how do I go about getting 'Xperia Ice Bean 4.0.4'?
If that's not possible then can you please recommend some good ROMs for locked BL if there are any?

If you're going to root then you might as well unlock the BL. If IceBean needs a custom kernel then you can't use it, if not follow the instructions.

however the usb transfer speed is rather slow, around 2.5mbps?

Use testpoint to unlock..
Nope you don't have to unlock your bootloader to root your phone by the way

He's asking for GB root. Root method is different on GB than ICS, therefore those instructions won't help him.

Thanks for this, i have now rooted which was a complete pain to do phone just kept on saying no. Now i am having problem with ROM manager/project x
trying to install ultimate hd 2.0.3, rom manager first loads to a point i can hardly read it and when i go to flash it says unsupported device so i installed it via project x install finished rebooted and phone, turned back on like normal and not into recovery mode, does this mean i have to unlock the bootloader
please help but i am liking the root requirement apps though
p.s Do i have to update the kernel if i want to try Xperia Ultimate HD because one person says about it for unlocked and doesn't mention it for locked bootloaders
Did you press the volume button on booting as is required to boot into CWM unless the ROMs power options support rebooting into it?

Not possible on locked bootloader because bootsplash is in kernel, and you can't install custom kernel.
Even on unlocked bootloader it's not easy to do (but not impossible)

Ok that's what I was thinking I just wanted to be assured. so now that I have a rooted x play, what else should I do to it? heres what Ive done.
- SD booster
- overclocked
- root explorer
- boot animation
- custom rom for locked boot loader
what else should I do to me phone guys? I want to make it cool. I have an ics theme currently but I want to take this phone to a new level. I am open to all suggestions and I appreciate everything you guys tell me in advance

i didn't know you can overclock it on locked bootloader...
Maybe add andreno booster on that list. It can speed some games up...
Feel free to test GB roms and find what you like most
Also search for orochi themes for GB on xda, IMHO, they can be pritty nice
Or you can be creative, uninstall apps that you don't use from /system/app , or install apps that you use often to /system/app (so you can have more space in data partition), clean up or add you favorites to /system/media/-ringtones-notifiation...
But that's pritty much all you can do... Because of kernel you are bound to GB roms...
Next level is unlocking your bootloader and trying other kernels or ICS/JB roms. They are more cool Slower, but cool
I m having xperia tablet z lte (sgp321) can i flash custom boot animation on locked bootloader? ??????
If yes. Then. Can i use boot animation app
