Hey guys, I hooked my brand new HTC One X up to my PC after a strange picture appeared in my gallery, it looks like a system picture like part of the phones OS. Anyway its a .db ( database file ) and its called "thumbs" i do know it belongs to the data folder on the phone but theres other files within and i dont know which the " Thumbs " file resides in usually. After hooking my Sensation up to the PC also and navigating to .data > navigator > Data > htc i find that there is also a "thumbs " file in there, am i right in thinking i can just follow the same path on my One X and place the " Thumbs " file in there?? Its a brand new phone and i didnt wanna screw around with it too much without asking someone in the know first just incase i am wrong. Any help would be much appreciated thanx in advance
Oh dear
Just delete it, it's the file windows creates when it generates thumbnail images.
It sounds like your PC is set to show hidden and system files. As mattman83 said, you can just delete the file, but next time you browse to that folder from your PC Windows will recreate it.
You might also want to turn off the option to show these files in Windows Explorer. Go to My Computer, The click on the Organise menu and choose "Folder and search options". Go to the view tab and make sure "Don't show hidden files" and "Hide protected operating system files" are both selected (see screenshot).
If you want to stop Windows from creating these files in the first place, there's a good how-to guide here:
http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_turn_off_thumbsdb_in_windows_7.html
THANKYOU!!
Thanx guys to both of you, I thought I'd maybe highlighted it and moved it by mistake. I have seen these folders before so I guess your right about my system settings but I've never actually been able to view it as a picture in my gallery.

I have just removed a program from my MDAiii and there is an icon left behind in my programs menu.
I want to remove this but I cant seem to locate it in explorer.
Can someone please tell me how to remove this small but nigglin pain?
explore it via the my computer screen of ur computer
explore it via the my computer screen of ur computer
then remove it... done!
I have tried exploring for it via my PC and it doesn't appear in my program files directory.
The icon is for a the game A VIKING SAGA.
I have even searched for any file with the contents "viking" in the name and it cannot find the file.
I have also searched for .exe using the search facility on XP but it replies with no files found!
Now it must exist somewhere otherwise it wouldn't appear in my program files list.
BUT WHERE?
suggestion
in ppc file explorer press a little longer and enable "view all files" and then see if u can find it!
or enable vie all files on PC and try!
I have view all files enabled on my PC and still no luck!
Where is the option to view all files on my MDA file explorer?
I apologise for my stupidity but I have only had it for two days!
Are you looking in the right directory?
Should be:
My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs
Cheers Neil!
Sorry everyone - I was looking in the wrong place but now I know!
DOH
Along my travels of reading thousands of posts in hundreds of threads I seem to remember reading about a tip to increase the viewable box size of SMS messages in touchflo.
Ive tried searching using all the keywords I can think of but have come up blank. I cant remeber if it was even in the Blackstone section.
Im using mun_rus's SMS zoom tool and if I get a large text message I cant always see it all.
Can anyone help please ?

U are using mine mod for diamond) Coz of bigger screen resolution u getting cut bottom I'll make such mod for HD also
Yep, your mod works good but as you said it cuts the bottom off.
Is it possible to make it remeber the zoom settings so they stick?
Also gona use your Background4alltabs if/when you fix it to work with analogue clocks (Cant give up my big Xperia clock).
In the \Windows folder, edit the file thread_sms.htm.
Look for a line that has the text Height=35. The 35 represents a height of 35 pixels.
You can increase the number as you like. For have three line the right value is 75.
how can you edit the thread_sms.htm file? I found it but doesnt give me the option to edit!
I tried looking for it connected through my laptop but Windows folder is hidden and no matter what I do i cant seem to find it!
copy to sd with your mobile file explorer, edit from sd with windows , copy it back
yea tried that but it wont let me copy it back to the Windows folder!
the file in the Windows folder wont allow me to delete it either! hmmmm
Ive copied it to the SD card and my laptop and unless Im blind there appears to be nothing in it.
The file size is 851 Bytes. Is that right ?
yea thats the file... i copied it onto my desktop, changed the file to open with Notepad and changed the height value to 75.
saved it, changed it back to open with IE then copied it back to SD then tried to replace the file with the existing one... but it wont allow me!
Same problem here, tried all ways. Installed Resco Explorer to get the result. SMS is now much more friendly, thanks for the tip lucarp78.
Hell yeah! Thanks for the tip, exactly what I wanted.
Tip: Use Total Commander and edit the file from the mobile!

When I copy it to my SD card with TC and open it, it opens in Opera and all I can see is a black bar across the top.
How did you edit it on your phone please?
What program did you use to edit it?
Thanks
The easiest way is to use Total Commander. Select properties for the file and remove the Read-Only check. Then edit the file as mentioned earlier and save it. Set the Read-Only property again and reset.
If you want to copy the file to your PC and edit it there, remember to remove the Read-Only property before you copy it back again (either using explorer, Resco Explorer or TotalCommander) otherwise you are not allowed to overwrite it. Hope this help.
Is there any chance someone would be kind enough to put up a copy of the thread-sms.htm file or cut & paste the contents in a thread.
I dont know how but Ive manage to mess mine up royally.
Thanks

I said I used Total Commander. Google it and download. Then look up where the file is in your windowsfolderand. Then you should manage the rest.

I have Total Comander already installed. When I asked how did you edit it, I mean what program as it opens auomatically with Opera and shows nothing. I managed to get it open once in Notes and edit the line but that didnt seem to work.
I went back to the windows folder and now it comes up with an error. When I look at the file on my works pc there is only about the first 6/7 lines in the file?

The clear up any confusion (because the previous guys who have posted haven't exactly been clear!)... if you simply "open" the file... by clicking or double clicking it... then it will simply "open" in a program designed to open that type of file.
As the file you're trying to edit is a webpage (.htm) then it will "open" in a program designed to "display" webpages... like Opera or IE!
You don't need to "open" the file.... you need to "edit" it.
In Total Commander, click the file once to highlight it, and then select "File" > "Edit" from the bottom menu of Total Commander.

If you've messed up your file... may I suggest you delete it from the Windows folder (using Total Commander).
It will look like it's doing something, but then the file will still be there... as when you delete a file that is originally stored in the ROM, it gets immediately replaced with the original from the ROM!
Then copy the file to your My Documents folder, click it to highlight it, click "File" > "Properties" from the bottom menu of Total Commander, and untick the "Read Only" attribute & click OK.
Edit as above, and click "File" > "Save".
Copy that file back to the Windows directory by clicking "File" > "Copy/Move", click "Tree", highlight "Windows", click "OK", click "Copy"... click "Overwrite" if prompted!
Thanks Sidepa, thats exactly what I wanted to know. Im still getting to grips with TC but its thanks to the help of this community im slowly learning.
After all that though, it still hasnt solved the problem of increasing the text box size. It may be a manilla file that needs editing in mode9 maybe. Hopefully mun_rus will come up with something as hes gona look at getting his diamond app to work on the HD.
Works for me in all input modes. Here is the modified file. Keep a copy of your original for safety then overwrite with this one.
My first post on xda.
Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube (444K sized file will do just fine)
Copy the file and paste shortcut in Start Menu> Programs
The next step is very important.
Goto:Settings >Connections>Connections>Advanced Tab: Select Network button: Change bottom drop down to Media Net. Both drop downs should be Media Net.
Thats it.

Hi,
I did as you stated but my YouTube program does not launch from within the start menu, it just stays highlighted when I click on it.
I did a soft reset and nothing changed.
It works if I go to Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube 444K and click on the file.
Any one else had this problem and know how to fix it ?
Thanks
It works for me, but it take forever to connect and sometimes just end up ERROR can not play. I spend more time watching the 'connecting' on the screen than the video I want to watch.
The only YouTube file that works for my Tilt2 was downloaded from google mobile- by using the MS IE, not Opera. The only issue (minor) i get is when i select a video file- it will go into landscape opposite the native landscape of the Tilt2. not a biggie. However, it works fine when using ''changescreen" app (enabled).

i am having the same issue. it highlights but doesnt activate the program.

I feel pretty silly...
I was able to find the YouTube files on my phone. I copied them over to "Program Files" (which, as I've read here, isn't the way to go about it) So I deleted the files I copied over to there. Problem is, it deleted both the "copies" and the original files :/
How can I retrieve the Tilt 2's version of the YouTube application without completely wiping out my phone?
Thanks for any and all help.
no sound on youtube app
I was able to copy the shortcut over and when I double click on it the client works but there is no sound. What gives?

You don't paste it to the menu directly, you have to paste it in /Windows/start menu/programs directory on your phone
Youtube app in start menu
i had the same problem puttin the Youtube app that comes with the Tilt 2 on the start menu and actually getting it to work, but after a whole day of messin with the settings, i finally got it on the start menu, and workin!
first what i did was
opened the file explorer<windows
from here you will sort by name so it appears from a to z(only if u need to because mine showed from z to a)
then you will scroll down to the Youtube folder, click and hold down to copy.
after you copy it you will paste it under the program files (my device<program files)
after that you will need to copy the actuall app and add it to the start menu.
the app will be found under the my device<windows: scroll very closely to the bottom of the list to find the app, click on the one that says 25b. click and hold on it then copy it and paste it under the start menu folder at the top of the windows<programs.
now when you click your start menu there should be the youtube app and should work. i have only tested it under my wifi settings at the house but it should work on 3g.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!
and if you want to rearrange the start menu, i recommened downloading the JWMD-Icon-Changer at:
pocketpc-freeware.net/jwmd-icon-changer-get-12511.html
i downloaded it fomr my pc and sync my phone to my pc after saving the app and draggin and droppin it into my phones file explorer and then installed it from there.
we already had it on the stock rom? I downloaded it from google mobile with google maps :X...anyways, no probs with the way I did it...idk
thanx vic1307, your method worked perfectly!

Any reason we don't cut and Paste, instead of copying...doubling the file?
You can't "paste" into the start menu folder....you can't paste into any folder that is already full, because there is no empty space that you can place your cursor on and hold to get menu to pop up.
If you try it ends up clicking on an item in the folder, because there are no empty spots to click on in the folder..
This is one thing that really annoys me with wm6.5....thank the idiot that designed this feature.
ok, I just cut everything out of the start up menu file, and pasted the youtube file into the blank folder, then pasted everything else back into the start up menu.
annoying, but affective. Deleted Google's youtube. Like the stock look one much better. ;D
Post #8!!! That is your answer!!!! Do NOT COPY the exe file to the start menu!! Either copy the YouTube.lnk file to the start menu, or send the exe file to the start menu as a short cut. Also, if you are using the native file explorer, then you may not see the .lnk or .exe file extensions to know the difference.
You should see the files in this order:
*at$t rom*
YouTube.exe (with YT icon) 458k
YouTube.exe.0409 (windows icon) 10.9k
YouTube.lnk (YT icon) 25b <-- file size should be another clue it is just a short cut.
You want a copy of the .lnk file in the start menu.
There are two YouTube apps, one is an HTC app that is hidden on the phone, the other is Google's and it has to be downloaded. I like the HTC app better myself btw.
Hello people,
I have a HTC Desire, a friend of mine is interesting in getting one for himself, he has aksed me a question but I don't know the answer so I thought I would ask here.
Basically what we want to know is it possible to hide files on the HTC Desire. Can this be done with or without using an app, if it can be done without an app howso. If I need an app, which one. Not sure if he wants to lock/hide or files to show under a fake name, can this be done.
His concern is that becuase of the way Android is all files would show up if someone was to look up the stuff on the phone/SD card.
Not sure if this makes sense
Thanks in advance for any help.
download filebro lite
Thanks for the prompt reply. Does this hide files. I think my friend wants to be able to hide any file. Also prevent certain media files from showing open when you open the image viewer/music player/video player etc
What I do to keep Gallery from listing my pornstars photos from it is:
With file manager (any, there are a bunch in the market) I created a hidden directory (any file/folder starting with period is hidden, so I named the folder .porn) and the gallery cannot see it. If I want to see the content of that dir, I start the file manager and browse in that directory.

yup it can hide files.it basically adds a '.' before file name
So I use FX file explorer as my file explorer on my all my Android devices.. today when going through it I just I noticed I have two separate download folders one is called "Download" the other ones called " Downloads". I'm just now noticing this. This is like my six or seventh Android phone going back to the OG Droid and I've never seen this before. The contents of the folders are mostly the same However one folder has more stuff in it but you can't erase it. When i try a prompt comes up that says "file memory error". I've included some screenshots for all to see. Maybe someone's got an explanation as to why this is happening. Is it like an after effect of recently updating to 10 ? Or is there maybe some unwanted bs ( Spyware? Yes im extremely parinoid ! ) on my phone. Those are the only 2 possibilities I can think of.
Thanks for your help in advance..
* I can only upload 4 screenshots so you can't see how the folders match anyhow. I'll upload the last screenshot if I can figure out how to.
The downloads folder (the one with the 's') is a connected storage. It was added by clicking the 3 little dots and then clicking connect to storage. It can be be safely removed by long pressing it, and clicking the trash can. It will just remove the connection to it. It won't remove any files, and your other download folder will still be there.
As to why the contents are different, I can't answer. They should be the same. Are you sure they aren't the same, just sorted differently?
