Increase SMS box size in touchflo ? - Touch HD Themes and Apps

Along my travels of reading thousands of posts in hundreds of threads I seem to remember reading about a tip to increase the viewable box size of SMS messages in touchflo.
Ive tried searching using all the keywords I can think of but have come up blank. I cant remeber if it was even in the Blackstone section.
Im using mun_rus's SMS zoom tool and if I get a large text message I cant always see it all.
Can anyone help please ?

U are using mine mod for diamond) Coz of bigger screen resolution u getting cut bottom I'll make such mod for HD also

Yep, your mod works good but as you said it cuts the bottom off.
Is it possible to make it remeber the zoom settings so they stick?
Also gona use your Background4alltabs if/when you fix it to work with analogue clocks (Cant give up my big Xperia clock).

In the \Windows folder, edit the file thread_sms.htm.
Look for a line that has the text Height=35. The 35 represents a height of 35 pixels.
You can increase the number as you like. For have three line the right value is 75.

how can you edit the thread_sms.htm file? I found it but doesnt give me the option to edit!
I tried looking for it connected through my laptop but Windows folder is hidden and no matter what I do i cant seem to find it!

copy to sd with your mobile file explorer, edit from sd with windows , copy it back

yea tried that but it wont let me copy it back to the Windows folder!
the file in the Windows folder wont allow me to delete it either! hmmmm

Ive copied it to the SD card and my laptop and unless Im blind there appears to be nothing in it.
The file size is 851 Bytes. Is that right ?

yea thats the file... i copied it onto my desktop, changed the file to open with Notepad and changed the height value to 75.
saved it, changed it back to open with IE then copied it back to SD then tried to replace the file with the existing one... but it wont allow me!

Same problem here, tried all ways. Installed Resco Explorer to get the result. SMS is now much more friendly, thanks for the tip lucarp78.

Hell yeah! Thanks for the tip, exactly what I wanted.
Tip: Use Total Commander and edit the file from the mobile!

When I copy it to my SD card with TC and open it, it opens in Opera and all I can see is a black bar across the top.
How did you edit it on your phone please?
What program did you use to edit it?
Thanks

The easiest way is to use Total Commander. Select properties for the file and remove the Read-Only check. Then edit the file as mentioned earlier and save it. Set the Read-Only property again and reset.
If you want to copy the file to your PC and edit it there, remember to remove the Read-Only property before you copy it back again (either using explorer, Resco Explorer or TotalCommander) otherwise you are not allowed to overwrite it. Hope this help.

Is there any chance someone would be kind enough to put up a copy of the thread-sms.htm file or cut & paste the contents in a thread.
I dont know how but Ive manage to mess mine up royally.
Thanks

I said I used Total Commander. Google it and download. Then look up where the file is in your windowsfolderand. Then you should manage the rest.

I have Total Comander already installed. When I asked how did you edit it, I mean what program as it opens auomatically with Opera and shows nothing. I managed to get it open once in Notes and edit the line but that didnt seem to work.
I went back to the windows folder and now it comes up with an error. When I look at the file on my works pc there is only about the first 6/7 lines in the file?

The clear up any confusion (because the previous guys who have posted haven't exactly been clear!)... if you simply "open" the file... by clicking or double clicking it... then it will simply "open" in a program designed to open that type of file.
As the file you're trying to edit is a webpage (.htm) then it will "open" in a program designed to "display" webpages... like Opera or IE!
You don't need to "open" the file.... you need to "edit" it.
In Total Commander, click the file once to highlight it, and then select "File" > "Edit" from the bottom menu of Total Commander.

If you've messed up your file... may I suggest you delete it from the Windows folder (using Total Commander).
It will look like it's doing something, but then the file will still be there... as when you delete a file that is originally stored in the ROM, it gets immediately replaced with the original from the ROM!
Then copy the file to your My Documents folder, click it to highlight it, click "File" > "Properties" from the bottom menu of Total Commander, and untick the "Read Only" attribute & click OK.
Edit as above, and click "File" > "Save".
Copy that file back to the Windows directory by clicking "File" > "Copy/Move", click "Tree", highlight "Windows", click "OK", click "Copy"... click "Overwrite" if prompted!

Thanks Sidepa, thats exactly what I wanted to know. Im still getting to grips with TC but its thanks to the help of this community im slowly learning.
After all that though, it still hasnt solved the problem of increasing the text box size. It may be a manilla file that needs editing in mode9 maybe. Hopefully mun_rus will come up with something as hes gona look at getting his diamond app to work on the HD.

Works for me in all input modes. Here is the modified file. Keep a copy of your original for safety then overwrite with this one.

Unable to change files in \Windows on TMobile Dash WM6

I'm trying to remap the TZones button on my Dash. However, when I try to manipulate Short_IE.lnk in \Windows on my phone via Total Commander it does not work. I cannot change the file. I have tried an app unlocker mentioned in [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281838] but I am not sure if that will do the trick.
Any ideas?
have you tried dragging the file onto your desktop, editing it there and moving it back to your \windows folder?
I suppose that might work, if \Windows could be located through Windows explorer. I'm not sure how to use ActiveSync to write files to the \Windows directory on the phone either. I just pop up My Computer and transfer files to my SD card directly.

You can't write files to the \Windows directory via ActiveSync. You'll have to write them to My Documents or another visible folder while in ActiveSync. Then using your phone's File Explorer, copy and paste the file from whereever ActiveSync placed it to the \Windows directory.

I can drag and drop at least some files straight to \windows through activesync... specifically the eT9 files for fixing keymapping. Is that not normal?
I've used the unlock method listed here (alternative way) http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-Monet-Monet-MoDaCo-com/251706/Application-unlock-for-Monet/ and the phone is reported to be fully unlocked. I am still unable to change the Short_IE.lnk file in the \Windows directory. I'm still using Total Commander. I'm trying to rename the Short_IE.lnk file to Short_IE_o.link (original) so that I can rename Short_IE1.lnk which has my desired mapping. I'm just told "Cannot copy or move file!"
Well that's just great. I guess I don't understand this fully. I created a text document on my desktop and renamed it to Short_IE.lnk. From there I dropped it into the Application Data folder and used Total Commander to move it to \Windows. Overwrote the file without a hiccup. Seriously, WTF. Why wouldn't I just be able to edit the shortcut directly? It worked nonetheless but now when I try to use the key (mapped it to point to a shortcut) I'm told that there is no application associated with xxx.lnk (which opens a blank sms message to the person of my choice) and to open that file within the proper program. Now if I run the shortcut directly, it works. I may just edit the Short_IE to open the blank sms message and trash having it point to the shortcut I already made.

Really? Through ActiveSync (4.5, XP Pro), I click explore, and then open a folder called "full device", or something similar (don't have it in front of me) -- that puts me at the root folder. From there I can open "storage card", "windows", "my documents", etc.
Strange... I always thought that was normal (since it's been that way over 3 computers and 2 phones..)

Maybe on your desktop open my computer, then go to tools>folder options>view>Show hidden files and folders>OK.
Now you can see your \Windows directory through AS.
YOU CAN drag and drop files to the device's \windows directory. There's policies defined in some ROMs (like Roger's) that will not let you do that. But with Kavana's latest... it's not a problem.
Try changing policies 1005 and 1017 to hex "16" in the registry, in order to relax the permissions even more.

Just use resco file explorer...

New issue! I use Total Commander to create a shortcut that points to my Storage Card. I place the shortcut in my Start Menu. When I go to open that shortcut...guess what! WINDOWS CANNOT FIND STORAGE CARD OR ONE OF ITS COMPONENTS. WHAT THE ****. If I use Windows Explorer on my computer to navigate to a directory that I place the shortcut in I can double click on it and I am taken right to my storage card. If I click on the shortcut while in Total Commander on the phone I am taken to my storage card.
WTF is wrong with WM6? Why would a valid-everyfuckingwhere-else shortcut not work when placed in the Start Menu?

I agree with mikey on the foul language,,,,, when you create your shortcut to your storage card, are you making the shortcut to a folder or an .exe file? if you are making the shortcut to just your storage card ( or a folder) you must (i think) also include what browsing program to use inside your .lnk file. If its an .exe you are linking to then try and put quotations at beginning and end of your shortcut ( ex: #16 "storage card\program files\games\pocketnester.exe" ) otherwise you need it to look something like this #16 fexplore.exe - "\storage card\" ...( not sure if the latter string is completely correct , but you get the idea)
see the reason why this is working while you are in windows explorer (fexplore.exe) or total commander is because you are at that time in some sort of file explorer program. But if you do it straight through your start menu you are not actively in a file explorer program and windows doesnt understand what to use to browse to that directory

I see what you're saying here. Makes sense. I just thought that, you know...it's Windows, there's a Start menu and whatnot so I figured that some form of explorer was already running in the background so I guess I'm lost as to why one would need to invoke a file explorer to navigate the directories. But this is a phone moreso than a computer. Also, I was tired from a long day at work lol. Frustration clouds the mind. I'll try the fexplore.exe suggestion. Any idea if the 16# is right? I'm not sure what that is for...I see those thrown around and I thought they were button mappings...
Edit: Negative on #16 fexplore.exe - "\storage card\" or 16#:fexplore.exe -"\Storage Card\" or 16#"\Windows\fexplore.exe -\Storage Card\"....

Well i tried everything i could too. i know there is probably a way for either file explorer or resco explorer to go to the storage card as soon as it is launched. Personally i dont have this issue because i use smarttoolkit and there is immediate access to the storage card via the start menu without using any 1st or 3rd party file explorers but you may not want to use this proggy so i thought i'd help. sorry i couldn't solve your question
ok i got it! you can do it one of 2 ways: 1. edit the .lnk file with this #40"\windows\explorer.exe" "\storage card" 2. You can use resco explorer and navigate to the storage card and do a copy.....then paste shortcut in the \windows\start menu directory. cheers!

so you're saying that file was on your desktop... not still in the .zip file?
sometimes you have to take the contents out of your .zip file and put it on your desktop , then place it in the directory on your phone.

.cpr files

ok... i been searching for hours n hours for 3 days now on how to open the CHome_240x320.cpr. i found it in the windows directory and when i select it it says:
there is no app associated with "CHome_240x320". Run the app 1st and then open this file inside the app.
im confused... HELP!!! lol
If I'm not mistaken you can copy the .cpr to your computer and open the file from within notepad.

In the Rose ROM, the CHome_240x320.cpr is not used. Its the HTCSlidingPanel_320x240.cpr and SlidingPanel_320x240.cpr. Edit those to your liking.
cpr.
Depending what rom you're using, ( I don't know anything about the rose rom yet) you need to copy the cpr from the windows directory to a different folder, like to your documents folder, and then you can copy it to your computer and open it with notepad, you can't see the windows folder from your pc when you're browsing your phone, so that's why you have to copy it to a different folder first . This is how I did my cprs.
You should check this thread out, it has all you need to know about it.

First always keep an original copy of your cpr file, when you copy it to your pc , before you modd it , make a copy, so if you mess it up you can delete the bad one from the phone and still be able to go back and drop the original back if you need to.
Do i need to have it zipped when i place it back into my phone???

No. use your windows explorer on your pc after syncing with it. open your mobile device and take the cpr file , drag it and drop it back in your phone, like I said before, in reverse, after is on your phone's documents, folder you have to copy it to the windows directory and reboot.
Read the link i gave you the instructions are there including CHomeRefresh.. Which will stop you having to reboot phone after you replace the .cpr in your Windows Directory on phone.

Remove "Today" from WM6.5 start menu

Hi Mallman
This is my workaround: there's more icons than the home that I don't want to see, so I added a folder in the start menu and I moved all of them to this folder I called Unused.
This way I don't remove or tamper with icons that I might need later, and I have a smaller menu.
By the way I didn't test the possibility to make this folder hidden, here's another possibility if you want to explore it...

[Q] replacing a deleted icon in start menu

Hi all
after some great advice from miami_son I have managed to sort out the mess that was my programs start up page.
sadly i also managed to delete the link file for the file explorer program
try as i might (and being very thick) i cant get it back.
can anyone point me in the direction (or tell me how to do it) to get the file link back
many thanks in advance
Use Total Commander to locate fexplore.exe in the \windows directory and select it with a single click. Click on file in lower left corner of Total Commander to bring up the menu. Click on >>>>>> and then click on create shortcut. Use the tree function to place the file in \windows\startmenu\programs.
Follow Kevin's instructions, works for any .exe file you want to create a shortcut for. But I would just skip creating one for that particular file. For one, Total Commander is a much better file explorer and can do more, and the OEM file explorer can cause you to delete things by accident if you aren't real careful.

I'm not sure, but I think that many programs use the file explorer to open files, rather than opening it themselves. Or at least this appears to be the case.

He didn't delete the program, just the shortcut for it. Once you have Total Commander installed you no longer need the stock shortcut. Like I said, TC is a much better file explorer.
You guys are just brilliant!!!!

The shortcuts (*.lnk files) are located in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
The icons for the programs are located (normally) in \Windows.

Any file browser application on the device. File Explorer is on every ROM. You could even do it from your PC if you rather.
Install Total Commander. Unzip file, connect device to PC, run the EXE file.
thanks miami son
am i correct in thinking ( from the advice you gave me about a year ago) that you cant actually delete the program but you can delete the icon file (png?)
thanks all

It sounds like you're just trying to remove some links from your start menu. Is that correct? If it is, then just navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete the ones you don't want to appear in the Start Menu. In File Explorer, tap and hold on the one you want to delete until the menu pops up. Select delete and then tap yes. In Total Commander, do the exact same thing. I don't think I can explain that better without making a video of it.
well i would like to delete the progs but I was under the impression that they were installed on the rom and, as such, they cannot be deleted
(certainly when you delete the icon and then do a hard reset the icon re appears)
i will try to combine (my bad) memory and the instructions and see where i can go
thanks all

You can't uninstall apps that are cooked into the ROM whether you use stock or custom ROMs. Deleting the link files as I've instructed will prevent them from showing up in your start menu. If you hard reset, they will be right back where they started.
Thanks for all your help guys
i can start to sort out the phone now
thanks again
