Greetings,
I've spent all day on this so far and haven't come up with any definitive answers so I am posting here. Forgive me if these questions have been answered, I haven't found them yet.
History: I have a Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 2 that a friend gave me when she upgraded. As of this moment it does not have a SIM card, and there is a slot available for one. I called T-Mobile and a SIM card is on the way from them. I am opting for a pay-as-you-go solution because I really don't care about data, coverage for data is spotty in the rural area where I live and not worth the cost of a contract with a carrier like Verizon. I unlocked the phone today with an online service (gsmliberty.net) and it worked great. So I have an unlocked phone, Verizon's stock ROM, and a SIM card from T-Mobile on the way.
I want to use the phone for calls (of course) and to use wifi when it's available. I want to be able to use the phone as a music player, snapshot camera, and play audio books on it too.
Questions:
What is the best ROM for T-Mobile's pay-as-you-go GSM network for making calls?
It is my understanding from reading scads of forum posts that CDMA vs GSM is all about data speeds, is that correct?
Thank you ahead of time for any and all useful information.
I haven't used GSM yet but I would think that GSM would be slower considering you'll be runkjng the phone on a different carrier.

I understand and I'm really not trying to beat a dead horse or kill kittens but searching for GSM turns up so many topics that I ended up being more confused than finding answers to my questions. After searching this forum for hours yesterday I still had not seen the topic you sent me the link to. Thank you.

Thanks for the replies knipp. I agree, a sticky or pinning the topic would be a good thing. I almost volunteered to set up a post for that but need to realistically look at how much time I could devote to it first.
Thank you also for the additional link. I am keeping a pretty good record of what I am doing, so when it's all said and done I will post how I got my phone to work with T-Mobile and GSM to help other people with the same questions and issues.

That thread has literally everything you need to know, and I have a youtube video on how to do it, and the thread is now stickied. I have t-mobile working just fine on my droid inc 2, no offense but people really need to read /:

Ever since I got this phone when it came out in the US I came on here and all I was seeing was GSM this and that. Now its even harder to find anything.
I used to work on phones with the help with the XDA forums. since last year I haven't found crap..well not much to get anywhere.
Just a suggestion.
I believe HTC Desire in the UK hit number one beating the iPhone so yes this phone is very popular and I really think there should be two threads for GSM Phones only and CDMA Phones only.
I spent hours on here and really didn't come up with anything that would help because by the time i finish reading it says for GSM phones only. URGH!!
I'm working on a CDMA Megathread, because it will hopefully bring in more development to our phones.
Thank you very much. I'm sure others will appreciate it as well.

i highly doubt it seeing as the EVO isnt a gsm/SIMCARD (att, tmobile, simple) phone... its all CDMA/NO SIMCARD (sprint, boostmobile, cricket, metro, pageplus, etc) So u are able to unlock programming and activate to another CDMA carrier...whole other ballpark
To the best of my knowledge, no. The Evo has no simcard, so you can't unlock what it doesn't have. Just for future reference, this type of post should go in the Q&A forum rather than here in development. XDA tries to keep threads in here limited to active ROM development, ports and How-To guides. You will also get a more thorough answer to your questions over in Q&A, since people with knowledge will be in there looking to help with stuff like this. Posting in the correct forum will also keep your blister count down as you won't be getting flamed by the forum trolls. Hope this was at least a little helpful!

Thanks twice! Trying to encourage a bit more civil attitude. Seems a shame to drive new people away before they even learn the ropes. No new people means no new ideas=Bad for ROM development!
Why questions and answers? Ok so I set up an account here in xda hoping to get some useful insight about some things for my phone. Well since I just set up account here on XDA can only post here. WELL I GOT NP REPLIES THANKS. So my question now is what is the point of strickening new members to q and a only if no one responds? Guess ill have to stick to phandroid.

I know it can be frustrating at times especially when you need an answer asap.. but there may be a few reasons why no one answers your question
-its been asked way too many times (search for it)
-no one understands your question or knows the answer
-the evo 4g isn't neccesarily "new" therefore there's less traffic in this forum
-People work have other things to deal with and it may be a while (sometimes a long while) before you get an answer.

Basically covered all the reasons why not to reply.
And when your question is about MetroPCS (I checked), you're less likely to get replies because the vast majority of members here use Sprint.
If there's a specific site for phones flashed to other networks, you'd be better asking there. People can't answer what they don't know.

Not going to beat a dead horse here but another tip here that you didn't hear from me is the bump. You posted that question 5 days ago and I assume was 3-5 pages back by now. I usually give my post a day then go back in and post the "anyone figure this out yet?" bump. Usually it will get a response. Like they already said, this forum is over a year old. Most have moved on and the ones that are here with the answers usually only bounce in and out of their own Rom threads.

Then please feel free to remain over at the other forums instead of coming here and whining about how you didn't get an answer fast enough about a topic that hardly anyone here has any experience with.
I'm sure there is plenty of experience on this forum. The experienced ones probably don't hang out in the q and a forums that's all. 90 % of the data provisions for metro will be found on xda and if you search it on another site... guess what it links you here. That being said this thread was started to see if it got attention. Which it did. No whining just sharing my thoughts on why we should be able to post anywhere. Experienced users do post in the Q & A section. And to make a thread just to see if it gets attention seems like a trap / childish [to me] , just like a person would pretend to have a fake bf/gf to see if the other gets jealous. Though regardless, experienced user do post here, I've seen it quite frequently. IF there were some question that wasn't answered and someone knows someone who can help, 9/10 that personal would say, "I don't know how to help, but if you look up _______ they can help you."
Also, the only place you can't post til abot 20 posts or so, if the development section. That's only because a lot of new users post Q & A questions there, clogging up that board, when they belong here. You can still read and download rom, just can't post there til ~20 posts, when you are more 'educated' on the forum. No bad mouthing, just saying.
I totally understand cause yea you do see it all the time where at the end of a guide full of roms. Someone asks what's a good rom or where do I find it. We should be able to take a test on experience to bypass the 20 post thing. My frustration came from knowing my answered would of lyed on this forum but no one even viewed it for days. I'm over that's what I get for getting a device that's over a year old. But hey its a big step up from my old one.

Yes but that's on a gsm phone, and my metro pcs wildfire is a cdma. And I read that the metro cdma loses mobiledata when rooted.

Wow! I feel your pain, dude.
I, too, have witnessed garbage responses coming in from certain members of the community who (I'm sure, if asked) consider themselves to be the greatest thing to happen to the Internet since streaming porn.
Because of the useless replies coming in, I actually included a disclaimer in Post #1 of a question thread I started (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487627&page=5) and got so much grief because of it! In the end, I think you will see I was justified, though.
I asked that only those who actually know the answer, please respond. I also said to please not respond with a certain type of answer (because it misses the point). Sure enough, both my caveats were violated. And now, some elitist members are trying (emphasis on TRYING) to make me look bad, but failing miserably. The beauty of an email thread is that you can always scroll up and read what everyone wrote. The issue here is that some folks took HUGE offense when I told them their answers were off the mark (because they were!). There were a couple of folks with helpful insight - which I thanked, but those posts of mine were conveniently ignored.
I even had one developer proclaim that devs hated the android community, and yet I am the one being rude?! Simply stunning.
Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and I hope you eventually find the CORRECT resource (on this forum, would be nice) to help you through your WFS issue.
It is for those reasons that I am giving you your first Thanks!
Thanks for posting such a note. Hopefully others will open their eyes because of it.

I know there's GSM support for it. I'm unfamiliar with AOSP devices. Will there be, or is there good developer support for the device when used with AT&T? I'm coming from a SGS 2 SkyRocket.
If you're not using the GSM version on AT&T there's probably no reason for you to be a troll.
Have you seriously not read a thread or news article in the last 24 hours?
That's not an AT&T Galaxy Nexus. Its an unlocked i9250 GSM model. Works on AT&T, T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier in the US/World. Its the same (save for pre-installed Google Wallet) as the European model that's been sold for the last 5+ months.
Seriously?

I understand that... The phone will work on AT&T. Never said AT&T is selling it. FFS I linked to the Google page for it.
I just seen this today. The question is: is it worth it? If there's not going to be any developers working on it. It's probably not worth it to me. I'd probably just get the SGS 3.

No, we're not trolls, we're just tired of people that are uninformed creating irrelevant, duplicate threads before searching or even reading the titles of the threads on the first page of the forum.
Obviously this phone has developer support, it's a Nexus. It doesn't matter what freaking SIM card you put in the back of it, its still the same device. GSM device support is GSM device support. Read. Please!

FFS ppl the OP was just asking a question. Yes the GN sold by Google is supported by AOSP and will have [email protected]!# ton of ROM and development going for a long time
Per your suggestion I've looked through the last 5 pages and there's a couple that's semi similar to mine. The official announcement: which I could try to start a conversation there and it get lost in the general chatter about it, and another question like mine but about the battery. I could hijack his thread. That would be cool? Instead of trolling, which most of the replies have been, you could have said something like "I seen a post earlier that might help out". The replies have been absolute crap. If you're tired of seeing it ignore it.
I'm Never used an AOSP device, or an international device. Before I bought it I thought I would come over kick up a conversation with some people that have a GN and ask some questions. General stuff about development on it. Is there a difference between this one and the international version.
The way you people responded to someone that has never been in this specific device's forum, or messed with any variant of the device before is not right.

Thank you!! I'll talk to you.
Thinking about buying it. Never used or paid much attention to AOSP devices because AT&T doesn't sell them. Are there any catches coming from Non-AOSP devices? I wasn't sure if there's any catches to using the international GSM roms with AT&T. Completely clueless here. I don't necessarily have time to read every post for 10 pages. Looking for a general overview of my questions.
You asked a really obvious question which is why people are responding to you the way they are. The question also doesn't make much sense since it is hard to believe that you this little about this phone. I think you are asking if the Galaxy Nexus works well with AT&T. The answer is yes. It also works well with any GSM network provider. There is good development for this phone, and nothing has to be or will be unique to AT&T.
There's no catches to using this phone with AT&T. Everything works great. Well actually, there are a few catches, I wouldn't get this phone if you were hoping to have:
1. Delayed software updates, or no updates at all
2. Terrible superimposed user interface that is more buggy
3. Lots of bloatware like AT&T Navigator just in case you wanted to pay AT&T for something Google gives for free and does a better job at.
If you are looking for any of those, then yeah, that's the only catch.
Why would I every look into a phone that I can't use? It has nice specs. I can't use it. Close. What's obvious to you isn't so obvious to someone else. Maybe it's all exactly the same as what I'm used to, or maybe there's some stuff you you "just know from experience" that I wouldn't know.
I read your post twice and I have no idea what you were trying to say.

Maybe a better question is: "Do the GSM ROMS work correctly on AT&T without any catches? If there is a catch are the developer pretty quick to help fix, or do the developers ignore AT&T"
I know this is not a primary AT&T device so I know the support is going to be back burner. I just want to know how back burner it is.

This is what I'm saying. You have a very very weak understanding of how this works. Do you really think that there are specific ROMs and tweaks for all of the dozens of carriers people are using this device on? Its an unlocked GSM device. There's no special software needed. You put in your SIM card.
Developers suppor the device. Not the network.
