I'm currently on blazer 4.1 with stock kernel and want to try out gunslinger kernel. Though If I am not happy with gunslinger how would i go back to stock kernel that came with blazer 4.1?

Simply download the stock kernel from here and flash the same way you install Gunslinger, after flashing kernels update your profile and prl in system settings.

I want to try flashing a rom with an ICS theme. I'm rooted with CWM5 installed.
Thinking about flashing that ASOP looking ROM then the ICS theme to go with it.
Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? My phone doesn't seem to suffer LOS at all. Can I flash the ROM then flash a stock kernel?
Most of the roms available support most kernels. There are at least 3 custom "stock" kernels available that would be your best bet at avoiding Los. Bubbys stock w/cwm, rogue stock, chris41g's new stock kernel...all would be fine to flash in cwm after you've installed a rom, I would suggest calks rom, or starburst as they are both compatible with ICS theme and are updated regularly

Better yet, just wait on the real ICS port being worked on. I tried the themed launchers and they were ok, but there's nothing like the real thing baby.
HI, I have a rooted EL29 version Epic 4g Touch, I like the touchwiz stock rom but wanted ICS theme is there any way to get it without actually putting on a custom rom ?
The ROM has to be deodexed for the theme to work or else it would be bootloop of hell. Might as well flash a custom ROM to avoid problems.

Try posting in the correct section next time http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1300
You could always flash a stock rooted custom ROM, such as this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429243 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Stock EL29 Kernel with CWM to flash the theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24014670&postcount=2
Is this what you're looking for, it's for builds EL13-EL29 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528063
It is an amazing rom if only it was updated to el29
Thinking of flashing blazers el29 kernel and modem should I ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594730
Yes I saw it but he said it has problems with calks tweaks
How can I get my stock kernel back? Or does flashing a ROM change the kernel? I don't really understand kernels yet in terms of compatibility, and such. I just don't want to brick my phone, so I'm making sure I do it right.
Roms usually involve a kernel already built in, check the OP description.
For example if you are on cm10 and flash the ktoonsez aosp kernel, then later flash a nightlie build, the kernel will be overwritten with the one built in cm10. You have to reflash the ktoonsez again afterwards if you want to use it.
So if you want stock kernel, flash a stock ROM with built in stock kernel.

Make sure the kernel you flash is sourced from the same source as your ROM, ie any TouchWiz LG8 ROM needs to have an LG8-sourced kernel - custom or stock.

Does flashing a rom change the kernel and modem?
If not what kernel and modem should I be running if using the JB alphas? What about stock ICS?
Kernel = usually but not always
Modem = no unless its a stock rom
If you are running a jb rom its usually best to stick with the included kernel. ICS roms have Agat and Kuban kernel that are both current. I have only ever ran agat kernel.

Click to collapse
Flashing a rom will change the kernel, it will get changed to whichever one is packaged in the rom.... But it will not change the modem unless you use one of those One click odins
