[Q] How do I get stock kernel back? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

How can I get my stock kernel back? Or does flashing a ROM change the kernel? I don't really understand kernels yet in terms of compatibility, and such. I just don't want to brick my phone, so I'm making sure I do it right.

Roms usually involve a kernel already built in, check the OP description.
For example if you are on cm10 and flash the ktoonsez aosp kernel, then later flash a nightlie build, the kernel will be overwritten with the one built in cm10. You have to reflash the ktoonsez again afterwards if you want to use it.
So if you want stock kernel, flash a stock ROM with built in stock kernel.

Make sure the kernel you flash is sourced from the same source as your ROM, ie any TouchWiz LG8 ROM needs to have an LG8-sourced kernel - custom or stock.

[Q] Can I flash a different kernel with a custom ROM?

Is it possible to, or should I flash a different Kernel onto a custom ROM? Will it break my phone? I wanted to check out the JB Camera in the SSGSII Themes and Apps forum. But it says you have to have a CM10 kernel. I am running Darkside evolution v8. I am not all up to speed on how kernels work or how they relate as far as compatability issue. Thanks for the help and feedback !
Yes you can.but make sure the kernel is for TW ROM.
Ps.i have tried couples different kernels and the darkside v3 is the best one.(my opinion)

[Q] Different kernel for AOSP ROM??

I was wondering to flash AOSP ROM but was confused that do i need to flash any diff kernel.I've downloaded AOSP 4.2.1 ROM(~201MB) ,so do i need to flash any kernel ?
STOCK ROM-4.2
CWM recovery
ROOTED
Kernel is bundled in the ROM do there is no need to flash kernel separately unless you want a different kernel.
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus

[Q] stock based kernel that would support a CM-10 rom ?

Hi There,
maybe this is a funny question, but still I wish to ask it.
Is there a stock based kernel that would support a CM-10 rom ?
Nope AOSP based kernels support CM, Stock based ROMs support Stock based ROMs. Simple as that most kernel threads will specify that anyway

Nope. Unless Sony releases an official jb rom with jb kernel for us to play around with. Stock for stock based, cm based kernel for aokp and other cm based roms.

Custom Kernel useable with stock ROM?

Maybe a silly question, but if I have a stock ROM, rooted, unlocked and CWM installed, can I flash a Custom Kernel?
I am specially interested in using:
[KERNEL] [TUNA] [3.0.72+][4.2.2] [EXP: DIAMOND v070 - STABLE: RUBIK v3] [09/04] AK
Yes, im running stock with that kernel right now.

LiquidSmooth actually ships with a custom kernel, Deathly, but I don't remember it supporting overclocking.
DKP is the only kernel for the S3 updated to android 5.1 I know of that supports OC.
